Shawn's was our last stop after a long day of campaigning for Lauren Underwood (Spoiler Alert: She won the election)! I had a delicious caramel latte and chocolate chip cookie. The latte was great, but the cookie was the star of the show. I probably could have eaten at least three more. It was so fresh, chewy, and just sweet enough. And the staff informed me that the cookies are only 55 cents on Thursdays! I'd go back a hundred times. read more

I used to come here for lunch at least once a week back when I was on a consulting gig at Ideal Industries. Good sandwiches and service, and I liked how coffee was still available at lunch time. I always did carryout but tables were available for eating in. Nice little place. read more

I want to like this place so badly. Shawn seems like such a nice guy and a great business owner. I'm really happy there's a place like this in Sycamore. But every time we've come here in the past couple years it's sub-par. The sandwiches seem like they're thrown together so fast that the employees don't care. The soup is yummy and I usually end up getting that too. The bagels are really good and we getting the coffee as well! The location is perfect and I love the interior but the sandwiches, unfortunately, are a huge let down every time. Also, I wish they would rid of styrofoam cups. My 1st time here & I must say this is a quaint little coffee house & sandwich shop that serves excellent chicken & turkey sandwiches. It's small on this inside but it's smallness & kindness by the staff makes it feel like home. My only recommendation is to not serve the sandwiches on top of the napkin in a basket. If you're looking for that small town Sycamore feel, Shawn's is definitely the place to go. Sycamore just wouldn't feel like Sycamore without this staple. It's truly a treat to start my hectic morning by stopping here, or enjoying a Saturday lunch with friends. I've tried just about everything on the menu, and you really can't go wrong. I love the breakfast bagel sandwiches with ham, egg, and provolone as well as all of the sandwich combinations. The homemade bagels are amazing (definitely better than Panera), and there is a wide assortment of delicious cream cheeses. The servers are very kind and patient despite how busy this place can get. You might also be lucky enough to catch the owner, Shawn, pop behind the counter to help out and joke around with customers. When you walk into Shawn's, be ready to spot many regulars who make this coffee shop a routine in their day. Shawn is definitely passionate about his business and makes all of his customers feel welcome and comfortable. If you've never had the chocolate chip cream cheese, or the chocolate pretzel stick coffee, or the pumpkin spice coffee, or the turkey / avocado sandwich, then you don't know what addiction means. Corner sandwich shop. Place looks like it's been there forever. Chalkboard menu with two dozen sandwiches to choose from. Lots of options, I got the salami sandwich with extra cheese. Bread was incredibly soft. Glad we found this place, which they had more sides though. Chips or soup seemed to be the only option. Places like this need a good potato salad!!! Will not return here ever! I was not at all impresssed by Shawn's and will not return. As a few have already stated in previous reviews the customer service is not very good. I was given a gift certificate by a friend and went for lunch during a week day. They were not all that busy, but it took forever to place an order and a long time to receive it as well. I am not a coffee drinker at all so I did not have any. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich which was very pricey for the skimpy amount of very dry chicken salad that was on my sandwich. I was very disappointed especially in the fact that this was meant to be a treat for me from a friend. I would 100% choose Sweet Dreams over this place for lunch every day of the week. Coffee just ok. To compete with other coffe shops you need to offer free Wi-Fi. The interior is in need of a major renovation. Very chilly in here during cold spells in the winter. Windows frost up. Double pane windows would solve this and help on the heating bill. At the very least this place needs a good cleaning. I'll stick to Starbucks and Panera for now. read more

I have been to Shawn's sporadically since the mid 90, when I was a semi-regular. The coffee is good and the food is great, but the real draw of the place is the atmosphere. Very relaxing, zero corporate feel, and did I mention the sandwiches? Comfort on numerous fronts. One of numerous reasons I'm happy to be back in town. read more

LOVE, Love, love this place! Best bagels I've ever had in my life! Best homemade cream cheeses I've ever had in my life! Cookies and muffins are good too! I always enjoy the seasonal coffees especially in the fall and winter! and they usually have them after christmas to purchase and take home so you can make your own holiday coffee daily! Wonderful place to go for lunch, plug in the laptop and work on college paper. They're sandwiches are all good too! they just love using fresh ingredients and it shows! I love supporting local business but have mixed feelings about Shawns. The food is pretty good but as one of the local coffee shops I am very disappointed in their lattes and lack of knowledge among staff about coffee drinks. There were no options for milk other than skim and the staff seemed genuinely confused about making the latte. Maybe their coffee is good, but I chose to go elsewhere for that since the espresso drinks are not good. read more

I heard about Shawn's from my ex-boyfriend's sister in-law who used to go to Northern and would work at Shawns week day mornings. I ended up going to Northern and she always would ask me if i tried Shawns yet and i never really made an effort. My office building is right around the corner from this little place so i tried it out for lunch one day. It's a small place with a handful of tables in the front room and there is extra seating over to the other side of the cafe. They are mostly known for their coffee which is house ground and gourmet. I haven't tried a lot of them, but my office goes there to get coffee for our break room. They always get the hazelnut one which is really really good. You just go up to the counter and order what you want and they bring it out to you. They have specialty sandwiches that you can pick from or you can make your own. They have a lot of variety of different meats, cheeses, breads, and veggies. There are options for vegetarians too. They really make an effort to make sure they give you exactly what you want by asking lots of questions about how you want it prepared to a T. I just ordered a salami sandwich with veggies on a kaiser roll. you can add soup on for an additional price so i did that n got the soup of the day which was broccoli cheddar, my fav. The soup came out right away n you could tell that it was homemade.. it wasn't watered down and had lots of broccoli in it. The sandwich was good too. They definitely don't skimp on the meat which a lot of places do now a days. the only thing i would have changed would be to either toast the roll or just get another bread. it was too soft an d kind of fell apart, but very tasty overall. and the best part.. all of their sandwiches come with a pickle hehe i love pickles! All the girls who worked there were all very friendly seemed like they really liked working there. you could also tell that they have a lot of regulars because they acted like they knew a few people. I am for suuree going back there for 2 things.. 1) for their coffee and 2) for their bagels. they have soo many different types of coffee to choose from its ridiculous! you can get a cup of it or a bag to take home and brew yourself. They have 35 cent bagels on Mondays so I'll probably swing by there and take advantage of that awesome deal too. They have daily specials, bulk items you can buy, and dinners for those with a heartier appetite. updates to come! read more

I love the small town atmosphere of Shaun's. The owners are so nice, and the staff has always been very helpful. The food is really good as well. I am new to Sycamore and already am hooked on this place. Been there around 4-5 times since moving here with my roommates and friends. We all love it. The blended iced coffees are great as well as all the food we have tried so far. I will say Shawn's is a bit pricey. For a sandwich and coffee I end up spending about the same I would spend dining out somewhere for dinner. But the food and coffee both are great quality and super delicious so it's worth it! The staff is super friendly and kind as well, and always helpful. One of the newer girls working there this summer has already got my name down and is so sweet. Shawn's is definitely a hidden treasure. Since it is not on State Street, Sycamore's main drag, this quaint cafe can easily be overlooked. The menu is bountiful and the food is DELICIOUS. My very favorite thing to order is the Quirky Turkey sandwich. So good! All of the staff is very welcoming and Shawn himself is a sweetheart and it is obvious that he loves Sycamore.
