I've been back a few times in the past year because Shaws tends to carry plant-based brands that no one else does/other grocers drop. So when I'm coming home from the beach, it's super easy to stop by and pick-up whatever specialty thing I'm looking for (pro tip: when a limited edition flavor of a brand you love is sold out at other stores or online... this Shaws tends to have it because no one's looking for it here). There's still some big issues here: 1. The parking lot is terrible. 2. Randomly you'll come across a completely empty shelf. 3. It's not the best looking fruits and veg. 4. The store needs a deep clean. 5. The customer service can be hit or miss. 6. The self check-out kiosks aren't as seamless an experience as Hannaford. But still... that vegan section in the freezer has a lot going on! read more

We stopped in here to check out their produce, stock up on water and other supplies. We were happy to see their produce section had a great selection, and the stuffed mushrooms were delicious. Nice grocery store for staples. Clean, well-lit, and easy to find what we needed. read more

Seriously love this store and all the friendly folks who help keep it running! I love how the isles have so much room you don't have to worry about bumping into someone. The variety of produce is always mind blowing to me! I've seen a lot of fruits I've never heard of before but love getting to try them out. I understand why it closed. Do people actually review their receipts?? I do. And, honestly, you expect a mistake now and then, but EVERY TIME YOU SHOP AT SHAWS???????!!!!!! Oh, I am not making this up by ANY means! We would shop to get the deals, come home, check our receipts, and find that we didn't get any of their deal prices. We would take the receipts back and yes, they would refund us. We lived 35 minutes away and would travel to them because their deals were so good, but then, come home to find out that we didn't get any of them. This didn't happen once. It happened every single time we shopped there. Yes, I do understand why they closed, but seriously though, it taught me to CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS, because many times over, as awesome as some of the deals might be, you don't get them...SHAWs, you will be reported to BBB, because, a mistake once or twice, ok, but every single time you shop is just WRONG!!!! read more

My favorite thing about this shaws is that I can walk here and I dont have to polute the enviornment with petroleum to get there . Also the People are really friendly . Another great thing about this shaws is that Is hardly ever crowded when I go there . Its allways quick and efficent . Not going to Bezos mart aka whole paycheck is always a plus . They also have a decent Organic section and other great International Isles . The staff is allways friendly amd helpful . I enjoy going here because its hardly ever a shitshow . Completely average, Shaw's does not excel in any particular areas, nor does it fail miserably. Product wise, I can usually find what I'm looking for, though they have a highly-limited selection of organic foods. The decor is plain. There really isn't any aesthetic to speak of. There's no charm to be had. It's just food on shelves, and that's what you get. The staff don't seem happy to be there, and it has a bit of depressing vibe in the store. There are other, better options nearby that I'd recommend over Shaw's. read more

I love this shaws. The staff here are phenomenal! They are extremely kind and acknowledge you the second you walk in. When you checkout, the staff are always kind and nice to you and always ask how you are and how you are doing. They are extremely nice. Sure, prices can be higher here, and it might look old and a bit dirty inside, but you really have to take a second to appreciate how nice the front end staff is here. Hannaford may have cheaper prices, but the staff here definitely make up for it! read more

I never thought I would review a grocery store, yet here I am. I've been going to this particular Shaw's for a long time, but I think I'm over it. The location is great for me, and while the selection is not as impressive as say, the Hannaford by the boulevard, it's also way less crazy which I like. Lately, Hannaford in general has been stepping up their game and offering basically rewards points/cash back based on how much you spend. I like that a lot more than the Monopoly things that I never bother collecting. Despite this, we still end up coming to this Shaws when convenient. Lately when I've been coming here I get the same guy at the deli counter every time, an older gentleman who could not be more miserable if he tried. And, I mean, I get it. Working the deli counter is not the most illustrious job and he would rather be doing other things on the weekend. I'm sure a lot of customers are awful and rude. But a lot of us don't like our jobs and we put a smile on and do our best regardless. To make matters worse, this last time he got the weights wrong (too much) and had the completely wrong kind of meat which we didn't notice until we got home. I think we've taken our last trip to this particular Shaw's at least for the near future. Hannaford has better deals and rewards, and moreover I don't want to go to a deli counter where ordering something seems like you're ruining someone's day. read more

I called Shaws So Portland to check on item availability at 1 PM. Got put on hold and after 25 minutes disconnected. I then went to Instacart Shaws and ordered 19 items which were all listed as in stock. Items were supposed to arrive at 8:15 PM and at 8 PM I got an email that they were not available. I called the store and after a 5-minute hold, they confirmed that the items were not available. Bad Customer Service !!!! Instacart is not worth it for this store!!@ read more

Clean store but bad service. There were two other cars in the parking lot on a Saturday. We went in thinking it would be quick. Most things in their flyer were out of stock. Basics were out of stock. Couldn't find anyone to help anywhere (as in, did you move the cream, we can't find it-they were out ). Got home and realized cashier didn't take any coupons off. This has been my go-to grocery spot lately, mainly because it's convenient. I commute from South Portland to Portland from work, and this is an easy stop on my way home. It's never very crowded (maybe other people aren't as into it as I am??) which is a nice change from the Portland grocery stores. Although I did stop in once around lunch time and there was a line for the salad bar, but if you're in the area around lunch you should really just head around the corner to Taco Trio anyway. The store is pretty clean and well-stocked with your typical grocery store items. A few things I like about Shaw's stores, in general: - Shaw's also doubles coupons up to $1.00 if you're into saving money (if you're not you should be, who doesn't like cheap food?). - While we're talking saving money, most Shaw's have a corner of their produce section where they reduce prices on fruits and veggies that are past their prime or otherwise not perfect. This can make for some good deals if you don't mind searching for things you'll use before they go bad. - Shaw's also sells bottled Argo Tea, a product that is near and dear to my heart. read more

Outstanding customer service....All employees, from the manager to the person sanitizing the carts have been extremely helpful and kind. Throughout the Covid pandemic, Shaws Millcreek was the one store that I felt very comfortable shopping in. Always the freshest produce and meats, locally sourced when available. Perfectly fine grocery store here in South Portland! Very clean, large selection of wines and organics of all kinds. They carry Moxie which is a necessity in the region and they take Apple Pay. We come to Shaw's each year when vacationing here in South Portland and they never disappoint. As far as grocery stores go, we always feel in pretty good hands here. If you're not from the area, remember there is a bag fee if you opt to not use your own bag/box/container for your groceries! read more

I go to Shaws when I can't find (a lot!) of items at Hannafords. I have never been disappointed. They carry hard to find items routinely and I so appreciate the choices. Some items are pricey but then they have awesome sales (10 for 10.00) whenever I go so I think it evens out. I much prefer the produce at Shaws also. I don't buy a lot of meat so can't say much for that. If I do I might go to Smaha's around the corner. read more

Ok...so since I could care less about my "cred" here on Yelp...as if I had any....and I don't...I post for my own enjoyment....let me say this..the Buffalo wings at Shaws are really good....nicely marinated throughout....not overly sauced or too vinegary....tender....big....tasty without overpowering.....delicious....only gets three stars cuz you have to eat them in your car in the parking lot....which for some reason shames me...but that's my problem..... read more

Average grocery store where I've bought moldy cheese before and expired/bad meat!! I still go for general stuff because it's close and no big crowds usually. One thing today I would address I would have would be the poor attitudes of some of the cashiers and baggers. For instance today I was shopping with my young child who I had in the front of the cart. I unloaded all the groceries on the conveyor, doing it fast as possible mind u just to look up and find that the bagger had started loading the bagged groceries into a separate cart. Ok I thought that's fine. Then I realized she had started piling stuff in the child seat. So I casually started to help her move stuff to the big part and said I have to put my child here. She didn't say one word. Looked at me with no expression and almost like I was doing something horrible and continued to bag. It was then quite bothering me that she couldn't wait one minute for me to unload and move my cart forward instead of starting in a new cart. Thankfully my 2 yr old felt cooperative and didn't fight me to change carts or it was overly inconvenient. More just the point of the matter that bothered me.
