I came in because I needed my hair trimmed and get toner over some old grown out highlights. I was able to get in without an appointment. During the initial consult I was a little put off when Shay told me that he has to color over my whole head because I have "a lot of grays". I figured he'd have to tone my whole head just for color consistency, but saying I have "a lot of grays" felt a bit rude and direct considering how few grays I actually have. I responded that I have a few gray hairs coming in, but I wouldn't say its "a lot". To this, he left and brought back his phone so he could take pictures of my grays and prove that I have a lot. It was so weird and uncomfortable. I almost left after the consult but stayed and I'm glad I did because Shay did an amazing job with my hair. The color was spot on, and the cut was exactly what I wanted. The pricing was super reasonable, and I actually came back the next day to get my makeup done for my engagement photo shoot. Despite getting off on a bad foot, I'll still probably come back when I need my next haircut. 4.5 stars for hair, but I would NOT recommend this place for makeup though! Alex did my makeup and was super nice, but is clearly not a proper MUA. He was super unhygienic throughout the process that I cringe just thinking about it. The makeup station was pretty messy and disorganized, and I was kind of surprised that when he sat me down he didn't moisturize, prep, or prime my skin before applying makeup. He just went in with concealer. He actually used concealer on my whole face and didn't apply foundation at all! My skin felt super cakey. All the brushes he used on me felt dirty, which wasn't helped by the fact that he double dipped every makeup wand back into the container - lip gloss, mascara, etc. It's so gross thinking about sharing the same lip gloss wand as everyone who has ever had their makeup done at Shays. In the end, I asked him to fix my mouth because he had overdrawn it so big (which I never asked for) and I looked a bit like a clown. My skin texture was bad because of the concealer, but you couldn't tell in pictures. My makeup overall looked pretty, but the process of getting it done was super disgusting. Not happy. Went in asking to have my long hair cut to sit/brushing top of my shoulders... it's cut to my jaw. Despite the lady being very sweet, I don't think she understood what I wanted. Once I was done, three different stylists asked if I liked it and I told them all no because it was cut shorter than what I asked for. Despite this, I was not offered a discount. This is especially annoying because I have wavy hair so it's going to be even shorter if I leave it natural, which I typically do. After getting highlights and toner at another salon that didn't quite turn out right for me, I went to Shay's salon today to get my hair fixed. Shay gave me a consultation and walked me through my options. I really appreciated the time he took to make sure that they ended up doing what I wanted. We decided on fixing the color at the roots. Alessandra (or Alexandra - sorry for perhaps misspelling) did my hair and she was an absolute doll. I felt completely at ease and didn't feel judged about my hair. She did an excellent job with the roots and gave me a great blowout and even went over it with a straightener to perfect it. I would have liked to give a bigger tip but only had so much cash on me. So the 1-star is not for Shay himself but the price I was charged by the receptionist upon leaving . I was told that child haircuts are $25 , upon checking out I was told I owe $40 because my 5 year old had her hair blow dried during the hair cut. Not after , keyword : (during) That is absolutely ridiculous. Shay did a razor cut and cuts on dry hair so blow drying was a necessity to cut her hair. This is different than requesting a blow dry . But I was startled when from inside someone knocked loudly on the window panel to signal me to move away. It startled me. Beware - you could loose your hair here. I was going to Ida for well over a year and asked for a small strip of red underneath. She advised the best look would be ombré instead. I asked - will this damage my hair. She assured she would not leave bleach on too long. I have had beautiful long hair for many years. A couple months after she said I need to trim at least 3 inches- I was sad but again trusted her. She gave my formula to a coworker Damian to do my hair while on vacation- over the next couple weeks my hair started breaking even worse. Every time I saw Ida she suggested a new hair restoration hair product for which I spent almost $300 and not once apologized. It just kept breaking- I was devastated and have been doing my hair for over 20 years and this had never happened to me. I found another salon and they were shocked that a hairdresser who had been mine for over a year would do a procedure that damaged my hair this bad. I then paid well over 1k at the new salon to get extensions- this was very emotional and when I reached out to Ida to express how upset I was she texted without remorse I hope you are happier the next place you go. Damien colored my hair so dark/pure black and although my root hair color is dark it's not that dark, and the bangs came out weird looking. It's not terrible but I'm not happy with it. I have done keratin treatment 2 times before it's my first time is shay's palace... It's the worse experience... Gigi is the one who did my keratin. For me, she didn't feel professional... I think she applied that cream from my root due to which I am facing these issues... After the keratin, I had itchiness, red skin, and a rash you can see in the picture... It's a week today and my skin is peeling off from my scalp... When I contacted the salon to let them know about this they said maybe this chemical would be allergic... I said I have done this 2 times before but I never had this problem... I wanted to know which cream they used... But they never revealed though I asked several times, they said the ingredient for keratin is almost the same for all brands. They will change the topic and said next time you can tell them to do organic or mild one. The chemical they used had such a bad smell I couldn't breathe as it's was irritating my throat... The price for keratin for my hair length was $200 also I asked Gigi to cut my hair in layers... Haircutting was not at all professional... She seemed confused about how to cut... I actually checked the reviews as it was 4.9 I thought it would be good but as my experience I Will never suggest doing keratin from this place... read more
