When I first called they were on vacation between Christmas and New Year's I had a major leak yet again on the roof. I called on Monday they came back from vacation and Bill was able to come out within two days he gave me an estimate right then and there I said go for it. The demolition crew came out a week later they were done in an hour with not leaving one speck of mess behind. Blake. I guess he's the job superintendent came out later that day and they did a virtual inspection for the permit and the roofing inspector in the city. After he left the Andy Gump showed up got placed on the parkway and on Wednesday morning the crew was out they started at 7:30 in the morning and while they didn't get finished on Wednesday they really didn't leave a mess behind everybody was wearing a mask they hauled away their trash and or use the appropriate trash cans. They came back on Thursday morning early to finish up the job. The job is finished at approximately about 2 PM in the afternoon. The reason for the extra time was that the city inspector had quite a bit of wood he indicated needed to be replaced on the roof and I'm glad that they did we had a heavy rain right after the roof was installed no issues whatsoever. My reason for not giving the company five stars is one of their employees who is the driver of the trash haul away truck was not masked when I asked him from inside through an open window where his mask was I got the no speak English. sorry the dog doesn't hunt every other individual on the crew even though they spoke limited English had their masks on and understood. A friend of mine who is also a plumber was here doing a emergency repair job for me said to the guy in Spanish where is your mask put it on and was totally ignored. I did speak with the superintendent regarding this and he assured me that the situation would be resolved. The cleanup was about I'd say about 90% done very well all they did leave some nails pieces of felt staples which my Gardener and I gathered up and left for Blake when I came out for the final inspection. We passed with flying colors and I have to say that bill the lady who answered the phone in the office and Blake and 99% of the employees were really very nice easy to deal with respectful and responsible. I got them through John's windows and John and his crew had done I'd say 99% of our windows in 2019 once the pandemic is over and I can get the alarm company and I will finish replacing the windows through John's couldn't ask for two better companies in the city of Burbank family owned and operated. read more

I have been trying to schedule an appt with shea roofing for the last 6-8 mo called them back in February after the heavy rain and they said 6 weeks before they can come and inspect the roof called in May and the 6 weeks became 4 weeks before they can come i called in august and they said 3 weeks so i made an appt and waited 3 weeks , i was given the time between 11-1130 they called the day before confirmed the appt . Day of the appt i was waiting and i got a phone call from bill shea at 1210 , telling me he will be late !!!! Really u call me. 40 min after your scheduled time to tell me u will be more late as if i do n ot have anything else to do but to wait for u all day long , i called and told him i will not be avaliable at 1230 he said he will come and leave my estimate in the mail box well he did not come till 2 pm and his estimate is the highest by thousands than all the others i got. If you have hard time to keep an appt you scheduled and if you do not respect people time why would i even trust you with 17k project. read more

First and foremost, I want to say "thank you" to Bill Shea, Ken Shea, and their crew. They made what could have been an awful and difficult experience as pain free as possible. As a Homeowners' Association, we were looking to make a substantial financial investment when we knew that we needed a new roof. We interviewed at least 10 roofers, who all gave us different bids and promises. I found Shea Roofing on Yelp and decided to call them based on their excellent reviews. I was not disappointed. I was impressed when Bill Shea came out. I was impressed with his years of experience in the business, his credentials (he has a State Board License in Roofing C-39 --- Don't hire a roofer who is only a general contractor --- you will be screwed), he was willing to answer all my questions and concerns, and the fact that his contract was to the point and straight forward. When the Association was down to Shea and another company, I sent him the other company's bid, and straight out asked him, what is the difference between the two of you, and he gave me an honest assessment, which allowed me to make an informed selection. We chose Shea. His workers' came on time as promised. The work site was always kept in a clean condition. Ken, who was managing the job, was always willing to answer any questions that I had regarding the progress of the project, and kept me well informed of what was going on, so that I could keep the Homeowners' Association informed. They were there to clean up any debris that was caused by the roofing. Through no fault of theirs, they came across an issue on our roof which required immediate repair and which caused the original estimate to increase. But they gave us the choice as to whether we wanted to fix it or not. Unfortunately, given the nature of the damage, we really had no choice. What they charged for the repairs was fair and reasonable, and they did not try to "jack up the price" simply because they were already in the middle of the roofing project. Thanks to Shea, we had no problem getting final approval from the City. I also want to thank Shea for using a roofing product that gave us the most rebate for the Cool Rebate Roof Program offered by the DWP. Thanks to them, and their assistance in helping us complete the paperwork, we are receiving back over $1500 for the roofing project. Thank you again Shea Roofing!!! Shea Roofing was excellent. Their bid was very good - much lower than some and about the same as some others. I went with them on the recommendation of a friend who used them. They came when they said they would. They worked quickly and efficiently and finished when they said they would. In the 22, almost 23 years, we've owned our house, Bill and Ken have solved THREE different issues which were left behind by shoddy oversight on the part of our home's previous owner. In all three cases, they solved (the FIRST time!), what had been bothering us for long periods of time. I had a really great experience with Shea Roofing. Earlier this year, my roof was subjected to extensive wind damage. When I solicited quotations, I was immediately impressed with Shea's professionalism and knowledge. They recommended top of the line GAF shingles with a 50-year warranty and they were able to address the idiosyncrasies of the roof around my attached garage much better than the other proposals I received. As soon as I got on contract with them, they came out and got my damaged roof covered with plastic just ahead of the rain. They kept to the schedule they promised and did a good job cleaning up after the job. Shea also set me up with all the paperwork I needed to submit to LADWP in order to get the "cool roof" rebate. Before the rains of winter started, I remembered some leaks from last year. I called Shea and they arrived on time for an estimate. Things were pretty bad up there. He showed me the problems and suggested some solutions. The previous roofer had not done a very good job--that's what sometimes happens when you take the low estimate. I got two other estimates and Shea was right in line with those prices. I went with them because I felt confident and I want to take a look at other houses around that they had roofed. Tear-off crew arrived--about 15 or more guys and three trucks. They had the old roof off by noon and the junk cleaned up well. They didn't break anything or trample the bushes. Over the next few days the smaller crew put on a fantastic new roof. It is a complicated roof requiring two or three roof techniques. I am totally pleased. Shea Roofing replaced my roof in early December 2017 and the process was one of the better ones I've had with a contractor. I started the process by contacting their office and scheduling a free estimate. Bill came out and checked out the roof and left a detailed estimate showing the costs of several different roofing materials. He even provided me with addresses of some houses in the neighborhood with the same roofing shingles so I could get a better idea of what they looked like once installed. Once I decided to go with Shea, I called Bill, negotiated a little and quickly agreed on a price and a start date. Once the start date rolled around (Saturday), a team of about 6-7 guys came bright and early and tore off my existing roof. The tear off took about 6 hours and once they were done you could hardly tell they had been there other than the fact I no longer had a roof. The following Monday, a team of about 4-5 guys came and began installing the new roof. The only hiccup during this whole process was that Bill made a mistake in his initial estimate by failing to include a portion of my roof in the final costs. Ultimately however, he owned the mistake and it didn't cost me any more money which was much appreciated. The entire job took three days (one day fewer then estimated) and again, once they were done, you could hadly tell they had been there other than the fact I had a brand new roof. The quickness of the job was also appreciated because this was right when we had all the wildfires and with my house being in a fire zone, I was concerned about having no roof but the roofers worked through some crazy winds to get the job done fast. The following week they contacted me to walk me through the permit inspection and then later gave a follow up call to see how I liked my new roof. Ultimately, I can't recommend Shea enough. Other than the one little hiccup (which again they owned and didn't cost me any more money), it was an easy and painless process. read more

I got to know about Shea because my wife wanted an expert to come and check the roof for potential repairs. Shea came in (free of charge) and gave our roof a clean bill of health. He also made us aware of a local ordinance that required the removal of wood shingles by 2013. we wanted to be compliant with the law so we decided to get a new roof even though the old one was functional with no leaks. It was my first time hiring a roofer so I was inexperienced and unknowledgeable about the process (other than a little self education I did on the web). Nevertheless, I did my due diligence by inviting seemingly reputable local contractors for a bid. Some did not show at all. Some others did not even climb up on my roof to price it; they just eyeballed it. There were also a group who came in, climbed on the roof but did not send me a bid or answered to my follow-up phone calls. In short, lots of people eliminated themselves from the process. At the end it was Shea and another contractor who did everything by the book (come in, answer questions, provide references, provide an estimate, refine the estimate, etc.). In conclusion, I hired Shea because his price was better and warranty longer. They started and finished the work as promised. They were communicative and upfront with me, they acknowledged the errors on their own (I upgraded the plywood to radiant but their supplier delivered regular plywood; I would not have noticed a thing if they did not make me aware of it) and offered concessions. They did not break or damage anything major and fixed the minor stuff on their own (garage light). Now, I am waiting for a strong rain to figure out the quality of their work and their after-sale service promises. Other than the price shock and the dirt, I have nothing to complain. We've been procrastinating for so long about needing a new roof. Our "25 year" roof was 30 years old. The recent rain (that lasted one day - this is southern CA) resulted in a drip drip drip in our dining room. Erg! We gotta do it! (We happened to be in the middle of a yard re-do, but that's another story...) So, we called Shea - they had done a neighbor's roof seven years ago and had given us a quote at that time. They updated the bid, which was better than others we got. The vibe was so much better - a family business who not only give the bid but do the work. No hard sell here or having the bid from one guy but the work is with unknown others - as it was with other bids. They did the job so well and so fast, it was awesome! The few days of pounding on the roof had me thinking there were people at the door all the time but I got over that - that happens no matter who does the work! They cleaned up the roof detritus and did quality work. They had a lot to do up there! The roof was a mess with humps and bumps and a terrible pad for the A/C. There was a weird flat part that didn't make any sense. They rebuilt it all, and had people who came to do specialty tasks, i.e., hooked up the satellite - no gap in our tv service which my spouse really appreciated. They suggested others who could come and fix whatever we needed, such as one gutter area that needed rebuilding. All in all, the project is done and we no longer have to deal with needing a new roof - at least for 50 years. They told us about the Cool Roof rebate from our power company, and the federal tax rebate for an Energy Star roof, both of which we were not aware. Bill and Ken Shea are now our roofers of choice, brothers who do great work, have other great contractors to supplement for special tasks, and run an all-around solid roofing business. If we ever move or we have a natural disaster, we know who will do any roof work for us. read more

All the positive recommendations here are spot on. Shea Roofing did a fabulous complete re-roofing job on our house. Their cost estimate was in line with other estimates we received, plus they threw in an extended 50 year materials warranty at no charge. We opted for radiant OSB (plywood), Thermasheet radiant barrier, and extra venting for the non-attic addition part of our house which added to the overall cost but should be well worth it in terms of comfort and lowering our utility bills during the hot SF Valley months. The tear-off and installation crews were highly professional and answered all my questions while I was on site. The entire project was started, completed, and inspected according to the contract, and the cleanup was impressively thorough. Bottom line is that we love our new roof and have nothing but great things to say about Shea Roofing. Oh and owner brothers Ken and Bill are great guys. read more

Called Shea Roofing and one other roofer for an estimate for a leak we had in the roof as well as an overall inspection of the roof. Bill came right on time for our appointment with a small crew and immediately got on the roof and started working. About 20minutes later, he had a full, signed inspection report (printed in his truck). I had an estimate and a general report of the condition of the roof. He quickly identified the cause of the leak and showed me the area with photos he took while on the roof. These guys are very thorough and low pressure. Later that day, my 2nd roofer came for an estimate and inspection. This guy did not go on to my roof and gave me some "I think your leak is coming from here..." type of answers but nothing very confident. I asked about an overall inspection and at that time, he told me that would be an extra cost. I know some roofers charge for this but I wish they would have told me this when making the appointment since I specifically said I wanted a roof inspection. Anyway, after a quick 5 minutes of walking around the outside of the house and not looking at the actual roof, I decided to go with Shea Roofing. They just had their stuff together from the get go. I was able to schedule some work 2days after the inspection and they sent a huge team of guys first thing in the am to start working. The workers run a tight ship with nobody standing around doing nothing. Everyone was working quickly and they finished the leak area and my garage in half a day. Clean up was also excellent with them making sure they didn't drop any nails or leave any trash and picking up nicely after themselves. Am glad we went with Shea Roofing. Price seemed reasonable (I never received an estimate from the other company to compare...) and work was quick. Came with a warranty so hopefully will have no problems for a long time. Shea Roofing was just wonderful to deal with. Their estimate was right in the ballpark. They showed up when they said and finished on time. Their work was perfect and they cleaned up well. And they go the extra mile. We have a heavy 12 foot wide aluminum awning that had to be removed to do the work. I had mentioned that it needed to be painted as did the outside of the house. Shea offered to come back and put the awning back up after the painting (not being done by them) was finished. When I called to tell them it was time to put the awning back up, they came the very next day to do it. That was an extra trip for them that I only half expected to happen. I since recommended them to by neighbor with equally good results. I cannot recommend them too highly. You won't be disappointed. read more

I'm fanatical when it comes to researching, so when it came time to re-roof our home I dove head first into the project. I researched the types of roofing materials, the underlay, the reroofing process, contractors, the licensing process and anything there is available to do with putting on a new roof. After identifying the shingle, Landmark TL by CertainTeed, I identified nine (9) highly certified roofers to quote on my project. As you can see from my stats, I don't review many things and came to yelp to look for something else when I came across Shea Roofing. I have used Bill Shea for 3 different roofing jobs in the last 2 years. One full new roof and 2 repairs on 3 different houses. Just like everyone else, I had outstanding service from Bill and his family. He put the new roof on an investment property I own 2 years ago and it has been perfect. We haven't had much rain, but we've had no problems with the rain we have had, and I am confident that we will have no trouble this winter. One repair was to a leaky roof during a rainy period and his team fixed it quick and there are no problems since then. The last job was an "el nino" inspection on a very old roof that is 2 asphalt layers over wood shake. Replace a few loose shingles and tar around the chimney was all he recommended. Super professional and very good work! Highly recommend. I had quite a bit of leaking in my garage and some leaking in the house (a 1926 Spanish home in Glendale) after a recent heavy rain, and I had called two companies to come out and give me a bid. I knew when I met Bill that I wanted to do business with Shea Roofing, and I feel a huge sense of relief that I got a professional, respectful roofing contractor. When I asked if there were any wiggle room on the bid (the other company's bid was so much lower, and just a verbal quote, that it threw up a giant red flag), Bill came back to the house to re-measure and go over all the numbers - he did whatever he could to crunch numbers for me. After all, getting a new roof is a major expense. The workers showed up on time each day, and did a great job of clean up, too. The entire job took about five days, and now I am ready for rain for years to come. I am glad I don't have to worry. There were a few things that needed fine tuning, and never one did Bill balk at the requests, and he was always patient while I asked questions. Also, they work with a company called The Rain Gutter Specialists, and they were also good. They extended the downspouts to provide more irrigation into my front yard, and I think it will work well. As I told Bill, they treat the customers with respect, and they treat customers the way they would want to be treated - that pretty much sums up everything in a nut shell. read more

We can't say enough good things about this company! Very professional, very reliable, and such a great work ethic! The demo crew cleaned up so well that, except for the bare roof, there was no sign they had even been there. All their technicians in fact were hard-working, thorough, and very efficient at their jobs. Additionally, Bill's brother/partner, Ken (a trained contractor, very knowledgeable) came to check out the progress both during and after, so we never had to worry. It all started when we had moved into a house that we loved but knew up front that it had various roof problems. We had already gotten several roofing estimates, from shingle-manufacturer-reps posing as roofers, all of whom kept emphasizing that it was not worth doing a small repair but we needed to redo the entire roof, preferably using the shingle brand that they were peddling. Finally, after reading the good reviews on Yelp, we called Shea to once again request an estimate on work that needed immediate attention (it was crumbling) as well as an estimate for eventually replacing the entire roof---"some day". Right away---I got a different vibe. Bill came out to take a look and not only did he walk all around the roof himself to inspect, but he actually sounded like he knew firsthand what he was talking about! Additionally, he worked with numerous brands of shingles and presented to us the pros and cons of each one, so we could choose. And importantly, Shea used the top quality underlayment (a fact confirmed elsewhere). Although the estimate Bill gave us for both jobs was actually very reasonable, we had already had so many other "new home expenses" that we asked Shea to do only the small urgent repair. Bill never turned his nose up at the small job, and approached it with the same seriousness and dedication as if we were doing a much bigger project. Furthermore, he NEVER tried to pressure us into doing the entire roof---even though parts of it definitely had signs of wear. When we approached Bill over a year later about doing the entire roof, he was every bit as gracious and dedicated as before. Without any complaint about the additional hassle, he coordinated with the cable and A/C company who were doing some work on our roof at the same time, so that the entire project could go smoothly. He made such an impression on the manager of the A/C company that they intend to work together with them and recommend them on future jobs. And finally, Bill went out of his way not just to get us the best warranty available, but also to secure for us everything we needed in order to comply with the newly required CA energy codes, so that we could then qualify for a rebate which we were not even aware of until he told us about it! --- Thank you Bill and Ken! read more

Bill Shea came out the same day I phoned Shea Roofing. I found Bill to be serious and sincere. His quote was reasonable and fair. Ken came out to investigate a leak. Ended up doing a patch job around our on-roof AC unit, added a diverter to prevent water from getting to the AC unit, and patched up a few other holes he saw. Also put my mind at ease about not having to replace the drywall damage inside my house caused by the leak. I was afraid of mold and he said it doesn't really apply in my case because the wood and drywall dry after a while so all I need to do is scrape, resurface, and paint the affected ceiling/wall. He also gave me the name of a gutter guy since my gutters needed a bit of work as well. Very happy with the service call. Thanks Ken! read more

Bill came out to provide an estimate. He was professional and on time. Seemed like a gentleman, he is. After walking my roof he recommended some repairs and mentioned the roof is in good shape and needed minor maintenance, tile replacements, etc. He went to his truck and was able to print out an estimate and insurance liability forms, contractor license right on the spot; I guess he has a portable computer and printer in his vehicle. I thanked him. Later I followed up via phone and asked a question on whether something additional needed to be done on the roof, I left a msg. Within 24 hours he responded to my msg and recommended against the additional item, said it was not needed. So he did not try to upsell or anything. He is honest and I can trust him. I said to go ahead and do the work, he scheduled it and did it, I mailed in a check for the full amount. It's a complete and done deal. Very happy and satisfied with Bill's work ethic, professionalism and quality. I have zero bad things to say about my interaction with Shea roofing. I'll be calling him again for future roof work and refer people to him when someone asks. Don't listen to the 1 or 2 bad reviews on here, some customers are unreasonable. Does Shea Roofing really need yet another positive review? Probably not, but I'm going to give them one anyway! I needed a new roof for my little 100-year-old bungalow in Eagle Rock. It had 4 layers of shingles put on it over the years (a major no-no to the building gods!) and was noticeably bare in a few spots. I procrastinated getting estimates because, ya know, it never rains in LA so who cares and dealing with contractors can be such a pain. But my house was starting to look like the worst one on the block with its worn roof and I couldn't have that - so my vanity won out! I got 3 estimates and Shea and another company seemed the most "on it" and honest. But Shea's estimate was the least expensive of all 3 so I went with them. They started the following week. It took them a day to do the tear-off and replace some rotted wood, a day to do the install and a 1/2 day for the finishing touches.
