I just want to start off by saying I use to really love this salon. It was the closest Aveda salon to my house and I'd make sure to tell my friends that Shearz was the best salon in Sparks. However today I'm sorry to say I can not recommend this salon to anyone anymore. I went to get my hair done in August, they say "Walk in's welcome," so I walked in and asked if anyone was available. The man who was at the front desk acted annoyed like I was an inconvenience and was finally helped by someone. It went ok, but my eyebrows were waxed a bit thin but no worries, I rescheduled for today. So today I go in and the same guy who "greeted" me last time was just as rude as before. I have no idea why that guy doesn't like me. Anyways, I got my eyebrows waxed and when the woman, Stacy, was finished I look in the mirror and see both of my eyebrows are basically gone. Her excuse "I waxed a little thin" "The wax went where it wasn't suppose to go" Lady, it's your job to put the wax where it's suppose to go! I am so disappointed and mortified. I sure hope my eyebrows grow back. I've been getting my eyebrows done since I was 15 and this has never happened to me. Honestly been crying since this morning I look like a freak now. Been a pretty frequent customer of shearz, for the past 3 years at that. But very mixed about the company. My reviews seem to get taken down. Haircuts are hit or miss. today was definitely a miss. Asked for certain specs and completely were thrown out the window. Tasher is a prick. Mentioned how my hairline wasn't very good. Seemed to be passive aggressive the whole time. As was my previous haircut from him. Liked my haircut then suggested that he could make it look a bit better. So sure he's the pro right? Proceeds to absolutely ruin my haircut. I paid, I left. But I won't be going back. I've spent close to $1000 in total from my whole time going, if not more. Haircuts are overpriced I had a simple fade and maybe an inch removed off the top but was $30? Service not the best. I'd just suggest supporting a local business who actually cares and are not gauging up the you know what. Have a wonderful day. I had my second eyelash appointment tonight. I LOVE them. I wasn't too sure what to think when my daughter bought a "full set" for me as a birthday gift. All I could think about was coming out of there looking like I was headed to a New Years Eve party or a rave. Not at all, they look amazing and real. Alanna is fantastic. She made it so easy and relaxing. The fist time can be a little nerve wracking but after a bit I settled down and so did my eyelids. Painless and seamless I came out of there with lovely natural looking lashes. The best part is I don't have to wear mascara anymore or eyeliner. I can leave the house sans makeup and still look pretty fresh faced. I am very happy with my lashes and plan to keep them pretty and long. If you have been contemplating lash extensions I highly recommend Alanna. She is very professional and does an awesome job. I just read the nasty review from Susan B about Amanda and her "so called" terrible experience with her eyebrows. I have had my eyebrows, eyeliner and lips done by Amanda and they turned out amazing!! She is a gifted and talented Esthetician! I happen to know that this woman goes around to salons, plastic surgeons and other businesses and gets work done and then complains and gets her money back! In this particular case this Susan B. interfered with the application of the product to her eyebrows and refused to let Amanda finish the procedure properly! She also did not follow the aftercare instructions that Amanda gave her. She then came back to the salon demanded a refund and would not let Amanda correct what she did not like. Susan B. has defamed a lot of professional people and this review should not be believed. Amanda has relocated to another and in my opinion much better salon in the immediate area and will be contacting her clients by email. read more

Umm Not if you like your hair! The girls who work there are totally unprofessional, always talking about sleeping around and how soon they can get out of there. And the owner is nice but can't cut hair very well. He always left me with my hair too short and Not what I asked for. My bangs we repeatedly cut way too short even after letting them know I wanted them longer. Go here at our own risk of way too short hair for way too high of a price. read more

My stylist I had for over 10 years retired on me and moved to Mexico. I was going to a large national generic salon and found that getting cuts from different people every time yielded different results. I thought I would give this place a try and found Philip. It is so nice to have a guy that will take his time and care enough as though it is his own hair. I've been back to him three times now and have loved that everytimne I have left, it doesnt even appear that I had gotten a cut, if you know what I mean. read more

I wrote a review months back. I went into the salon to meet the owner. He was busy, so I engaged with a stylist at the front Matthew .He was nice and I felt he would do a great job from what he explained. He said it would be easy because who ever did my highlights prior did a great job. We just needed to brighten the highlights and refresh. It did turn out great, they were super blonde like I wanted. I was so grateful. I wrote a great review, and told people I know to go to him. A month later I returned to get my brassy color toned. It had gotten brassy because I couldn't get in for toner. I did do some things to my hair. I have a professional license and have access to amazing professional products( such as olaplex, redkin etc..)I was happy to get in due to Covid. We wore our masks, and I was happy to see him. I explained what I did at home. He said no problem my hair was in good condition, just wrong tone.I thought that he was a genuine person. He may be. But unfortunately not to me. He painted on a toner to my entire hair, and color to my greys on roots. And he put me under a heater for 25 min with it on? My hair looked really dark when I returned to chair. He said, "don't worry, it'll lighten up" . So I didn't. I asked for a trim- dusting. I had told him the last thing I wanted was to be bitches, who does. I saw very long pieces of hair fall on my jeans and was freaking out , but didn't speak up. My fault. Again I had trust. I've never had a hair cut on extremely wet hair, because it's so thin, and I wanted a LIGHT TRIM. My hair was dried and it looked dark so layers were short but I was distracted by the dark. I didn't want to complain. I'm too freaking nice. We looked outside in mirror and I tried to smile and pay. I left a generous tip as usual and got in my car. I did cry on way home out of frustration. It takes forever for my hair to grow. I should have just toned it at home. I let him know it was super dark. He did offer to have me come in and put in baby lights. My hair was too dry and greenish. I didn't go in. It looked worse and worse, so I politely canceled my upcoming appointment and blamed Covid. I conditioned the heck out of it and blended the layers over the last few months . It's still oddly layered. Everyone I know asked what happened to my long hair? My color? But I didn't want to hurt his feelings. I was upset every time I tried to style it. I was so sad about it. Honestly it sucks to be done wrong. I've been counseled by friends and family for months to confront him. But I thought to myself he can't magically make my hair grow back. It's a waiting game. I finally stuck up for myself. I wrote a text. It was polite. I added just wanted to get things off my chest. Well!!! He said it wasn't his work! I waited six months to contact him. It's coming up on four. His texts were demeaning. Finally he said I blocked his number. I changed phones, but didn't block him. Very childish. He actually then called me dramatic and a liar! I'm hurt more than mad. I had to change review after those mean spirited words I just received. I'm tired of being walked over! A lot of nerve. Then I asked for us to loose communication. I wish I could give a good review, unfortunately I cannot. I was given by far the worst hair cut ever here by Stacy. At first I thought it was a very cute cut because she curled it for me but when I washed and straightened my hair the following day it was beyond horrible. She basically chopped my hair into weird sections and created, what the stylist that fixed my hair referred to as a hole on the right side. It was so awful I had to scramble to find a salon to fix it for me in the morning. I was desperate for a new stylist, when my last one just stopped calling me back. It had been 3 months since my last cut/color and with naturally curly hair, my locks were out of control. Despite some of the negative reviews I chose Shearz. Everyone was professional and the place was bustling with activity. I loved the big band music playing in the background. When you get a haircut, you expect it to be shorter. I showed Sean, the owner, a photo of myself from a few years back and told him I wanted it about that length. Having had many bad haircuts in my life, I've learned that communication is the key! I have lived in the Spanish Springs area for 4 years now and I was finally brave enough to try a new stylist. Previously, I had been commuting back to Idaho for my hair appointments. I chose this salon because it was AVEDA and I know they have some additional training requirements. And I've heard their color line is great. And the owner of the salon is a citizen at the church I attend in Sparks. I chose to schedule my appointment with Katie because she received such good reviews from other customers on Yelp and her co-workers had great things to say about her. Katie was so polite. She took her time to make sure everything was good. The color turned out good. The appointment took longer than I expected, but I had the entire afternoon open, so it was okay. I now know to schedule 3 hours for a cut, color and style. I like that she is young and not afraid to try a new hair cut or color to keep up with the current trends. I will be rescheduling an appointment with her again. This time I'm going more blonde. read more

I went to this salon yesterday. I am soo upset! Julia messed up my hair. She doesn't know how to deal with bleached hair. I went there for professional help from my terrible home bleach job wanting to lighten more IF POSSIBLE (I am not a professional!!) and left there with my hair MORE damaged then it was when I got there and not even the color I wanted. And because of all the NEW damage it had to get cut super short. I heard Julia in the back freaking out after she seen what had happened. You know its bad when all the employees are standing around you with shocked expression all trying to figure out what to do next!!! I went home crying and they still charged me $110 for the color and $30 for the cut. If you have a color correction situation don't go here!!! To top it off my color is patchy and uneven!!! I could of did this myself minus all the new damage!!!!! I left looking like a troll and my hair wasn't styled, it was blow dried with a spray of hair spray. read more

Okay, so I moved up to reno/sparks in 2014, early 2015 after scrapping up a hefty mug on my head I decided to check out hair salons. LUCKILY, when I walked into Shearz I was given an instant happy face and welcome to shearz. Mathew was and currently still is my stylist. I have never been done wrong and every time I see him he knows exactly what I'm looking for! From the countless pictures I've shown him to even coloring of hair, we seem to be on the same page. Without a doubt I will recommend coming here not only just for Mathew but for the undoubtedly amazing service they provide. Friendly stylists that don't mind if you talk their ears off (don't hurt the ears though, they only got 2 of thems!!) Highly recommended and commended for their amazing service. I dislike being negative of stylists, especially when they are nice. The person that cut my hair was very pleasant. The salon was very clean and inviting. However, my haircut was the worst I've ever had. I asked for a high fade and got anything but. I got home and, after removing my glasses, saw that I had long hairs around my ears that were missed. The back of my head had a rash because the clippers used were not oiled or were low-grade. The fade I asked for had to be fixed by a barber elsewhere. I will not talk about what was said, however, I will never return to Shearz. read more

For an Aveda Salon it was a little sloppy. The male vegan hair stylist was lounging on a chair. Marie who did my brows took 35 minutes and frankly didn't do a very good job in that amount of time. I didn't want to ask for a fix because I may have walked out with no brows. The table she had me lay on was horrible. She had to hold it because it wobbled so much. It was not comfy at all. Now I have been places where they ask how I want them but her questions made me feel like I was her first wax ever! I was supposed to get my lip waxed to but she never asked what I was there for even after reading the appointment book. I wasn't going to say hey btw you are supposed to do my lip too. She mentioned she did eyelash extensions and that maybe me and my thin eyelashes should consider getting them. At check out she really didn't know how to use the credit card machine. Vegan boy seemed put out every she asked for help. I understand he was with a client but he didn't seem like he wanted to help. Then a girl wearing a prom dress or brides made dress (to me anyway) came in tried to help but was unsure as well. She said if you have any issues call us we will fix it... Um no problem I will. All in all it was a disappointing visit and I will probably never be back. Shame too because I love Aveda products. read more

I scheduled a last minute appointment because it was the only place that had availability and it was the only time I didn't have my son. Well my hair is completely ruined. I told the stylist I trusted his good judgement and he turner my hair from brown to orange. My hair is so damaged, that I now I have to cut off at least 6 inches if not more just to look semi decent.
