Farm Bar was such a great find. The outdoor seating was packed and full of life. There was this really nice energy around the whole place. The staff were super friendly too and gave us some awesome recommendations, which definitely helped because there were so many things I wanted to try. I ordered the Harissa Shakshuka, it came with roasted peppers, onions, tomatoes, garbanzo beans, goat cheese, and two poached eggs, served with sourdough toast. When it came out, the presentation immediately caught my attention. The two poached eggs were sitting right on top of this beautiful, rich sauce, with the goat cheese scattered throughout. Once I cut into the eggs and that runny yolk mixed into everything underneath... wow. The flavor was outstanding. The tomatoes and roasted peppers gave the dish a deep, slightly sweet and savory base, while the harissa added a warm, smoky heat that slowly built with each bite. The garbanzo beans were soft and tender, adding this really nice texture. And the sourdough toast was perfect for this. I could scoop up the sauce, egg yolk, beans, and peppers all in one bite. This was a very cozy experience that I wouldn't mind revisiting! We went here to celebrate a friend's birthday. It's a small, intimate space with warm lighting, so it's a great place for date night. We only came here for drinks and appetizers. We tried the cheese curds and the artichoke dip, and I must say, the dip....AMAZING! If you don't get anything else here, you gotta try it. The drinks were very good, as well. The servers were really nice and cool. I liked their vibes. And at the end, they brought out my friend a happy birthday card and a jar of honey! A typical "farm-to-table" restaurant. Ingredients taste fresh but the dishes don't knock your socks off. Unfortunately, ingredients are there in a lot of Chicago food... along with flavor, individuality, and unique preparation. I would say that after my one dining experience, I determined this is food I could make myself and possibly even more to my liking. However, I adore the location and atmosphere of this spot. Well Aphrodite and I are just passing through and had just explored Belmont dog beach (which was excellent) and it was her first restaurant experience. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious! They even had a pup bowl that she adored and we got to practice a little training because of it. I got the Caesar with steak and it had the perfect crispy finish yet was tender and so flavorful. We sat outside in the partially enclosed patio and even in the rain it was very comfortable. We came for Easter brunch. Not our very best Farm Bar experience. People were seated on the patio for Easter brunch, restaurant super busy. Half the time the door was open to the outside, and it was about 40*, so we kept putting coats back on inside, due to the door being left propped open. Food arrived to the table rather cold. Apparently the kitchen got hit with many orders at once & staff had trouble getting food delivered to tables while it was still hot. We'll be back, but it was not the best experience. We had the fish and chips, which came out beautiful and piping hot. But the breading was mushy and gummy and the fish lacked flavor. So I guess I will keep walking when passing the Farm Bar in Lakeview. I hate giving meh reviews but this one was earned. On the plus side the bartender was super nice. The cheese curds were so freaking good! I could not stop myself from eating them and I think they should increase the portion too cause that little thing was not enough for 3 people! I wasn't a huge fan of the brussel sprouts because of how they did it with bacon and cranberry sauce. I had to brush the sauce off a bit, but other than that it was really good. The chicken caesar salad did not disappoint. The chicken breast was nicely charred/grilled and not dry at all. Overall, pretty solid place to just get a quick meal in before a concert. Farm Bar must have the widest variance of cuisine to culture of anywhere I've dined in my 60 years, having lived around the world and the last 30 in chicago. This really happened on Sat Aug 15: my GF and I arrived before 5. We counted 8 people besides ourselves. Slow. We sat at the bar. The bartender was about eight feet away. He took ten minutes to acknowledge us. Then, he yelled something. My GF asked me "is he talking to us?" I was watching the game on tv and didn't register. So I said, "can't be us..." 5 mins later. (Now we're in an empty restaurant open for business and it's 15 min in). Bartender yells at us again from down the bar. I say, "if you're addressing us, come over and we can talk. I'm not yelling down the bar to discuss dinner." He says, "then you'll have a long wait, I'm busy." I say,"take your time we're not in a hurry." He doesn't talk to us again for another 15 minutes. I tell my GF, I'm gonna find the Manager On Duty. She begs me to forget it and go somewhere else. Which we did. I'm used to the attitude in that place. The one in north center is no better. But the food is usually very good, and the petulant ambiance can be tolerated in small doses -- especially if you're craving their Bloody Marys or fried chicken. But I'm done. I usually spend $200 every time we go there (about once a month), but we're done. We can find another joint. This is Chicago after all. read more

I had THE best cheese curds of my life here. No exaggeration. We were already scheming about how to come back the next day just to sit at the bar with cocktails and another round of curds. Honestly, I could have just ordered another round for dinner, but I'm not a psychopath (well, not that night, shhh...). We also got a side of mac and cheese for the table...the secret is a little tang of goat cheese. also great! For my main, I got the pork special with cherry sauce and polenta. I am a sucker for any fruit and meat combo, and this one delivered hard. The pork was layered with texture--crispy edges, tender shreds, rich fatty bites, all of it smothered in that sweet, tart cherry sauce that paired perfectly. The polenta was creamy and comforting, a great base to soak it all up. One of the things I love most is that the specials here rotate every few weeks, so there's always something new and creative coming out of the kitchen. Great little place. We met up with family for brunch. Spicy Bloody Mary's were delightful. They came with a simple pickle spear, cheese curd and salami chunk garnish and a sidecar. I like a nice, basic bloody and appreciated the spice and tomato flavor vs. having a huge garnish that distracts. Service at the bar and when seated was very friendly and efficient. Cheese curds had a lovely, light batter and came with a nice spicy mayo. Our table ordered the traditional eggs benedict, the salmon bendict, the pimento sandwich and farmer's breakfast. These all came with potatoes that were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty. The space is bright and not loud. I'll start off with Farm Bar is essentially a neighborhood bar. There are hundreds of them in Chicago, and this one just has a prettier facade. And that's fine, except I was under the impression that it was a hip local restaurant. Nope. It's a local watering hole that has a decent menu. It does not have a firm grip on reservation schedules, and we waited 25 min for a 7:30 reservation. It's not like you can grab a drink at the bar while you have to wait, because the bar is full of neighborhood folks drinking. After getting seated, the AC unit above us was leaking condensation, forcing us to awkwardly sit at the table to avoid the dripping. Waitress said that they had wrapped the pipes with foil to stop it, but the portion over our table was not wrapped. Drink order of 6 resulted in 5 drinks arriving and a simple glass of red wine missing. We asked about it and waited 5 minutes, after which the waitress went and got the glass herself. When you've got to wait 10 min for a glass of red you kinda know how things are gonna go. After ordering dinner, and having the waitress come back to make sure of our order because she only had 5 orders for a table of 6, they still managed to leave one of the orders short. The food...was fine. Above average bar food fare for sure, but nothing I can rave about. Then the bill comes and there's a 3% "CDB" charge. What is that, I asked? "Cost of Doing Business" fee. I shit you not. Waitress immediately offered to take it off, and I'm thinking you either take it off or take it off for you, coming off your end of the tip. WTF? Pay your staff whatever it takes, and then roll that into the food/drink prices. If you don't have the balls to do so, I'll fix things on my end. Overall a pretty lame experience for $300+. You can find a better vibe and setting for that kind of money read more

We started off with the wisconsin cheese curds because I saw all the reviews about them. They definitely did not disappoint. My boyfriend said they were the best he's ever had. They truly melted in your mouth. We loved splitting 2 dishes (sweet & savory) and getting to try both. The pimento breakfast sandwich served with potatoes was 7/10. The potatoes were above average, not sure what they do to them but they were 9/10! The pancake fell short of my expectations, it was not fluffy at all and didn't have much flavor. For an appetizer, we shared the cheese curds, and as a Wisconsin girl, I don't say this lightly: these are hands-down the best cheese curds I've ever had. My BF ordered the BFD Apple French Toast, and watching him eat it was a review in itself--he devoured it like it was his last meal. The flavors were incredibly well paired, sweet without being overwhelming, and clearly a standout dish. I had the fried chicken and biscuits and added a fried egg, which Ted also loved. Although it was about 10/15 minutes before we had someone come to our table, the server was nice and helped give some recommendations between desserts later on. I got the classic burger and although they still put goat cheese on it after I asked for none, I still could tell it was a good burger once I was able to scrape it off. The fries are great (assuming you're like me and like double fried fries) but the cheese curds are even better. Not positive if I'd get the burger again but we'd definitely get the cheese curds as an appetizer again! We had the apple pie bars and the cheese cake for dessert- I absolutely loved the apple pie bars but unfortunately they are seasonal so I would get those while you still can! The cheesecake was okay- it's not winning any awards but if you are craving a standard cheesecake then this would be it. They featured a tempura batter unlike other curds I've tried. The warm cheese was oozy soft inside. The only reason this review doesn't feature five-stars is the service we experienced.
