This is a pretty thin review since I've only been there once. I ordered the Western Omlet bagel, and I have to say that it lived up to the hype. On Saturday morning at 11:00 AM you can get any kind of bagel you want as long as you want a plain or wheat bagel. I've had many a bagel in my 27 years, and up until this morning, thought I had all there was a bagel had to offer. Boy was I wrong. This little mom-and-pop place on Route 10 in Cheshire should not be overlooked. Their bagels, which come in an assortment of flavors ranging anything from cinnamon raisin to french toast, are huge! Not only is this the biggest bagel you'll ever have, but it's also the tastiest. They're so moist on the inside, and chewy enough where you won't crack a tooth while digging in for the first bite. They're also relatively cheap, about $8 for a bakers dozen (13). I love discovering little places like this. Be sure to check this place out. read more

I went here to pick up a quick everything bagel and cream cheese and a mocha coffee as I was making my way to court. The bagel was very good as it had a nice crunch to it vs rubbery tasting. They also didn't skimp on the cream cheese, which for a cream cheese lover such as myself, was heaven. For a medium coffee and bagel for cream cheese, it was 3.99, which I thought was a fabulous deal because most local businesses charge over $3 for a bagel and cream cheese. Great bagels, quick service, and good prices. Shef's is a simple affair, a few tables, a small counter to order, and bagels/bagel sandwiches. They don't have quite as many flavors as your typical bagel shop, but the make up for that in quality. Realistically I'm going to order an everything bagel most of the time anyway and theirs is spot on. Light on the inside, chewy on the outside, seasoned both on top and bottom. While their whipped cream cheese tastes pretty good, it's so whipped that it does end up sliding out of the bagel when you eat it. read more

i read these other reviews and really thought they were all fake reviews. all these 4s and 5s for a new place?? i guess i expected a bad bagel, but DAMN these guys make a seriously good, almost NYC quality bagel. one of the better ones you can get in CT.. and you know they care about the bagels they are selling when they seperate the everything's in your bag so they dont mess with the other flavors .. Shef's is my new fave bagel place north of norwalk. be careful, you will probably eat a few on the way home. read more

A dance day in Cheshire brought us to shef's bagels. Don't expect these bagels to be the picture perfect round variety but get past this and your in for one of the best bagels I've ever had. My daughter had a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Now usually she will offer me a bite I was denied this pleasure this morning. It seems that bagels are similar to pizza in that people have very strong opinions about what I good bagel should look, feel and taste like. Every bagel place seems to have at least one comment similar to "...it's not a real NY bagel..." That said for local chain places I like Brueggers, who I believe boil their bagels in the traditional NYC manner. They are smaller, denser and crustier. Actually I've been described in the same manner but that's a different story. The bagels at the place across the street from Shefs are completely different. They are baked (I guess) and very bready. I've heard them described as more like a hard roll than a bagel, which despite the fact that I like the place is probably a fair assessment. But if I bring a dozen to work people love them. I would say Shefs bagels are somewhere in between the two. Larger and breadier than ones that are boiled (Brueggers) but better than the super bready ones like across the street or at DD. So Shefs has become my default bagel place, partly because it's good and partly because it's very close to where I live. Sometimes if I'm in the mood I'll go to Brueggers but mostly it's Shefs. I'm a traditional is so I stick with just cream cheese on my bagel but I'm told the bagel sandwiches are good as well. All in all I wouldn't drive a half hour to come here but if you're in the neighborhood or live nearby I would check it out just don't expect it's a substitute for getting on the train and heading to NYC. read more

I grew up in Brooklyn so I'll say that I know good bagels. These are GREAT!! They h e salt bagels which I find are harder and harder to find. I took 1/2 dozen home and had a salt bagel with lox and cream cheese. They are generous with both and I look forward to stopping in when I am in Cheshire. read more

Irresistible! My wife came home on a Sunday morning with a dozen bagels and they were gone almost immediately.
