I absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere alone made me feel like I was in Florida instead of Connecticut. It has such a great indoor/outdoor feel with the sliding doors, open-air setup, and that whole relaxed, warm-weather vibe. It's definitely different from the typical Connecticut farmhouse-style brunch spots. They also have a bunch of different mimosa flavors, which is honestly hard to find around here. I had to get the passion fruit, of course, and it did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken and waffles, and they were SO good. The bacon on top and their special sauce really took it to another level. It was packed, but for obvious reasons. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are definitely worth it. My wife and I have been here several times for both breakfast and lunch. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We have always found the food to be very good. Served quickly. The portions are large enough, nothing crazy large, but filling. This time we my wife had the Rubin and I had the turkey club. Both sandwiches were tasty and the onion rings were OK. They lacked flavor and what I did pick up was the taste of uncooked flour. I like the coffee and wish I could have had a 2nd cup with my meal but our waitress must have been in the witness protection plan. After she took our order we didn't see her until we were finished with our meal. I did get a 2nd cup of coffee to drink while going over our bill and anguishing over her tip. We visited Ellis Farmhouse today and brought our Golden Retriever, Duke, with us, hoping to enjoy a meal outside. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to learn from the hostess/manager that only service animals are allowed, even in the outdoor seating area. What was most frustrating was that this policy was not clearly advertised on the website. Had we known ahead of time, we would have planned accordingly and avoided the disappointment. The staff member was friendly, and we ultimately placed our order to go, but the experience left us questioning whether we would return. We understand and respect a restaurant's policies regarding animals, but we feel those policies should be clearly communicated online so co customers know before arriving. Nice place. Our server was super nice, since we had never been there before. Lots of choices. We had to try the donut holes with the cinnamon maple syrup. It was good! We would have like a cake donut but the yeast donut was probably better cuz it was lighter. Our meals were big! My DH got the cheesy corned beef and liked it. It was so big he didn't finish it! That's a first! He got it with a side of tots, that were just tots nothing interesting. I got the farmhouse platter with french toast, eggs, bacon and hash browns. My bacon was nice and crispy. The dining room has a country feel to it, with wide wood plank flooring. Service was stellar and we have to give a shout-out to our wonderful server Dawn. She was everything you want in a server -personable, funny, entertaining, informative, and just plain excellent. Our lunch started off with an unusual complimentary dish. Have you ever had apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon as a free starter before? I bet your answer was "no". Their menu offers breakfast and lunch from 8:00 - 2:00 during the week and until 3:00 on the weekend. I asked Dawn why Ellie's isn't open for dinner, and she said it was the owner's decision so he could spend more time with his family every day! We both went into the breakfast menu for lunch and my wife chose a Western Omelet with onions, peppers, ham, cheddar cheese, Served with one slice of toast and your choice of home fries, hashbrowns, or tots for $14.50. I went for their Breakfast Burrito with scrambled eggs, shredded potatoes, peppers, onions, black beans, pepper jack cheese, fresh guacamole with chipotle aioli and sour cream on the side for $12. It was offered with the same choice of home fries, hashbrowns, or tots. Added protein will cost you $2. I didn't add any protein, but I did ask for hot sauce and Dawn let me know their hot sauce is house made and has a $1 surcharge. My reasonably priced $3 iced coffee was strong and flavorful and very good. Both portions were enormous so half of each came home with us. We were a group of 5 girlfriend meeting for a late breakfast (arrived around 10 past 11): we were told it would be a 30 min wait... the place was packed with people waiting to be seated so it was no surprise that it took an hour for us to get our table. The booth and ambiance were nothing special, but we were given a plate full of apple slices that were sprinkled in cinnamon sugar (which was a nice touch), our waitress was fun and attentive and the food was very good. The menu offerings for breakfast were pretty basic and standard.. you won't find 6 kinds of pancakes or stuffed French toast here, but it's pretty clear that they have perfected their over-easy and other egg game. Hash browns can be the shredded, cubed or tater tot varieties and delicious. The gluten free bread the have was the best I've had (nice job!). Three of us had mimosas and they were delicious. Based on the number of diners waiting to get seated and the high quality of our meals, I'm willing to guess this restaurant is pretty consistent. I would definitely come to Ellie's again. We ordered a breakfast burrito and the Sunny Side (eggs come to order and I asked to have them poached) plus two cold brews with a flavor shot each, The burrito was stuffed with fresh diced onions, tomatoes, peppers, eggs and black beans - very filling alongside our requested tater tots. The aioli was delicious and went well with the tots. The sunny side comes with a hollandaise so I figured poached eggs would go best. The eggs were perfectly runny. My two complaints: I could have used a bit more hash browns under the eggs. I asked for a side of toast because there weren't enough potatoes to soak up the yolk with. The hollandaise has good flavor but arrives a bit watery and foamy. It also seems like they serve unsalted whipped butter? I could be wrong but my buttered toast was bland. Overall, I will definitely come again. The coffee was good, there are other dishes I want to try, and our server, Meikhi was so nice and attentive. Did Father's Day today and had a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and so was the service. I have 1 complaint. We were a party of 10 (reservation made 2 weeks earlier) and had to be sat at two different tables. Next to each other, but not connected. When I made the reservation, I told them my dad was handicapped and in a wheelchair. If they couldn't accommodate a party of 10 at 1 table, they should have said so. Now, the table situation was manageable and we had a cohesive experience, but why did we have 2 servers for 2 tables when we were 1 party? The server the table I was at was Ryan (I hope I'm right). He was amazing. My mom wanted to pay the bill for both tables and not only did he make that happen; he explained the gratuity was already included and walked her through the toast machine and never once suggested she leave an extra tip. Breakfast & lunch spot inside of the old Que Whisky Kitchen I came here for breakfast on a weekend and we were told that it was going to be a 20 minute wait, but they had complimentary coffee & water (that had tons of fruits in it that made it more tasty than just plain water) The space is divided into 2 different seating areas - 1 in the main dining room and 1 by the bar. Although the bar seating area has bar seats there are also some tables there as well, and I believe that the "que" (see what I did there) for that section of tables is independent of the one for the main dining area. Anyways, when I was told that it would be 20 min to get a table I decided to take a seat at the bar and order a latte. They have a solid selection of latte flavors, and I decided to try something unique. I don't remember what flavor I got, but I do remember that I liked it a lot. As soon as I ordered my latte I was told that my table was ready, which was a pleasant surprise given that I had just put my name in 5 minutes earlier. After getting seated I got a chance to look at the menu, and I was impressed by the selection of both classic & unique breakfast options. I opted to go for 2 of their apps instead of a main dish - the breakfast egg rolls & the banana bread (I think, I can remember it was some kind of breakfast bread). Ellie's is conveniently located right off exit 32 on i84 for Queen Street (for those not native to Southington) so it's an easy trip and an even easier find as it's visible from the main road. When I walked in the place was PACKED but the wait was only 10-15 minutes. To ease the short wait, they offer complimentary cappuccino and fruit water that you can help yourself to. For those native or who live by Ellie's, this breakfast/lunch spot took over the previous Que Whiskey Kitchen building. Although the outside looks similar, Ellie's ownership have taken some opportunities to refresh the inside to fit that farm to plate farmhouse breakfast spot vibe with that rustic but modern look. To start the meal we had the Breakfast Egg Rolls. Egg rolls for breakfast? Genius. They were filled with scramble eggs, your choice of meat (we chose sausage) and cheese. The egg rolls shell itself was light and crispy. Delicious. We chose to pair it with Chipotle airli over the Sriracha alternative. The dip really makes the app. The plate is decorated with some greens. You get 2 egg rolls diagonally cut into 4 large pieces. For my main meal I had their Hangover Burger. This towering masterpiece of flavor comes with a mixed beef burger, fried egg (they ask you how you'd like your egg), bacon, melted cheese, crispy fried onion, crinkle cut pickles and a glorious layer of hash browns with Ellie's own hot sauce. The combination of textures and flavors inside the burger really deliver. Best of all, the burger wasn't overly greasy and messy to eat. When we first arrived, I was a bit nervous that there would be a long wait given it was a weekend on a nice spring day. The rather large parking lot was packed and there were already quite a few diners enjoying the outside patio and bar. Despite all of this, we were seated pretty quickly in a corner booth which was nice. There was a variety of items to choose from on the menu which I appreciated. I am writing to share my disappointment regarding an experience I had at your restaurant today. It was the manager who approached us and asked us to leave our table because we had not ordered food. This was not the first time I have experienced this situation at your establishment; it was the second occurrence. After the first incident, I chose to give the restaurant another opportunity. On this occasion, I was meeting a friend and celebrating the upcoming arrival of her baby, which made the experience even more disappointing. I visited your establishment and ordered a coffee, intending to relax and enjoy it. Approximately 25 minutes after being seated, I was approached and asked to leave my table because I had not ordered food. At the time, there were no customers waiting for a table, and several tables remained available. While I understand that restaurants may have policies regarding table usage, I found this request surprising and unnecessary given the circumstances. I was a paying customer who had just received my coffee, and being asked to leave made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The interaction completely diminished my desire to remain there, and I ultimately left my coffee on the table and departed. What disappointed me most was not the policy itself, but the lack of hospitality and consideration shown in handling the situation. As a customer, I expect to be treated with courtesy and respect, especially when the restaurant is not operating at full capacity. I hope you will take this feedback into consideration and review how similar situations are managed in the future. The place was pretty busy so we had to wait a bit for a table. What is a nice is they have a coffee bar and water bar on the weekends free of charge. Our server was very friendly. They bring apples with cinnamon for the table. We asked what some of her favorite dishes were and she was helpful. We all opted for breakfast which they serve all day. We all also got mimosas flights. They were cute, served in mini ball jars. Mango was my favorite, the others were pretty sweet. For my meal I got the FH platter with bacon & French toast. We had a reservation for four and both my parents are disabled and we did have to wait 5 to 10 minutes to be seated, but not that long. What was bad about this place and I couldn't get over was how awful my breakfast was. I got the eggs Benedict over corned beef hash. It was the worst meal I have had in a long time and I don't know what type of farm fresh eggs they're talking about but they certainly were not farm fresh eggs. There was so much vinegar in the water the eggs were cooked in that all I could taste was the vinegar. The "hollandaise" was abominable. There was no real butter in it. It tasted like melted margarine with maybe some type of egg in it. There was no lemon. There was no butter to make it nice and creamy and it was so runny. It just poured off the side, and was completely lacking salt or seasoning. The corned beef hash should've been called hashbrowns with maybe a sliver of corned beef the size of a postage stamp. There was also some weird flavor permeating everything, and it made me actually quite nauseous so I couldn't finish it. I didn't have the heart to tell my mother. I hated it because it was for my birthday, but I will definitely never go back there again. My sister also didn't like her meal. She got the California avocado chicken sandwich- it had no sauce, mustard, or aioli on it. It was just dry chicken breast, a slice of avocado, a piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato. I will say that the food was very hot and my mother really enjoyed her Belgian waffle. However, eating at a diner in the area would've been 100 times better than the food that I had here and it is ridiculously expensive for what you get. I'm not sure how it got all these high reviews, but don't go in there with high expectations.
