My husband and I came on a rainy Saturday afternoon two hours before a home game. There was on one party ahead of us ordering. I like this wholesome location with friendly staff and a no frills menu. Everything is made fresh to order and prices are reasonable. I ordered a chicken sandwich and my husband chose the hamburger combo. The combos are an additional $5 more with fries and unlimited fountain drink. I believe they only take credit card and cash. There were a few TVs with football games on but the sound was turned low. Came here after seeing it was in the top 15 Alabama burger spots. Not sure what rank it held but it's in top 15 according to the article I read. I got the cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was great. Cooked and seasoned perfectly and is also a good size. My only issue was the fries. To me they were disappointing. The burger was close to a 5 but I'm eating the whole meal and fries brought it down. The fries were cooked to a point they were almost stale to me. Beyond crispy hard and crunchy. We did not have to wait super long for our food, and although the restaurant was fairly crowded it did not feel like it. This little hole in the wall has all the charm and basic decor that you would expect from a hidden gem in the Deep South. And this is a fun stop in Auburn. If McDonald's is a 1, and The Pharmacy in Nashville is a perfect 5, then Sheila C's is a solid 3-star burger. We found the patties to be a little dry, but you get a lot for your money. The double cheeseburger is a monstrosity with two smashed beef patties on a wonderfully soft bun. The quality of meat is definitely lacking something, but again, it's a reasonably good product and an enjoyable experience. We would definitely go back! The pickles are pretty standard, and it's too bad they don't use the world famous Wickles pickles since the distributor is less than a half hour drive from the restaurant. This is simply a review to counter all the rave reviews. Don't expect a gourmet burger. It's a huge, massive, I mean, don't order the double meat because it's too much, burger. And it's a very tasty burger. I don't think they've cleaned the bathroom since they opened in 1964. The tables were covered in food. I found a bottle of windex and bused myself a table. Outstanding all around! We are from Andalusia AL, and are well seasoned travelers that have been all over the US driving commercial vehicles. This place instantly stood out as a "locals staple" once we pulled in. Don't be fooled by the makeshift ordering spot and dated interior. Know this, that more often than not, time and effort go somewhere and if it is not in the decor, expect good things from the food. We ordered some great sweet tea (as good as mom makes) and a double burger combo to share (I am not a person that likes cheese on my burger, but my wife is, so next time will have cheese). We had already sampled some other local spots. It was around 6pm on Saturday and there was not a long line at all. Once we got the food, a little wait, we were pleased with the service, cleanliness, attitudes, and price of the overall visit. We were tired so went to the car to eat. ONE BITE sealed the deal, for both of us. What a great burger. It had everything they offered, except cheese. You could see the butter soaked wrapper trying to hold back the explosive goodness. No matter. You could instantly taste the charred and crunchy edges to the beef patties, mixed with fresh toppings and well seasoned. The fries are always subject to preference but I like them. I like crinkle fries best though. We almost argued over the burger and I thought we would have to get another, but alas our previous meals took a toll and we could not finish. What a sad moment that was. We wish we were close enough to have this more often. I want to give a shout out to both the beautiful lady that took our order (was that Sheila?) and the two cooks, especially the tall mature guy that has that (your heart doctor eats here smile) and such a down home persona. It was like going back home and dad cooking me a burger. Although I don't think my dad can hit this level of beef patty magic. Oh my goodness!! This restaurant has got the best hand made hamburgers that I have ever tasted! The patties are large and thick, and you can tell that each one is handmade. They are seasoned perfectly. You can get whatever typical toppings you desire. Everything fits the bun just perfectly with typically nothing sliding off. The french fries were very good as well. We're in town for our teen to visit Auburn University and staying hear the University. Looking for a quick place to grab a bite after our drive from Jax, a quick search on Yelp found this spot. Order at the counter and they give you a colored tab with a number that they call when your food is ready. It is served in a bag, so if you're taking out, you're ready to go.
