I had the Cobra Kai, my wife went with the Dr. Gonzo, and we shared an order of sweet potato fries--every single bite was incredible. Hands down, the best burger I've ever had. Juicy, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor without trying too hard. On top of the food, Haley, our waitress, was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. I was fully prepared to let this go--truly, I was. Then I saw a cross-post on Facebook enthusiastically declaring the restaurant's love for students while politely reserving the summer months for the "townies." Nothing makes the locals feel appreciated quite like being marketed as seasonal seat-fillers. I'm a burger 'n a beer guy, and I had been meaning to try this place for a while--even though I suspected I might not fit the target demographic (people who know what Wagyu beef is and believe that it is for burgers- that's not me). Still, I did my part. I chose a quiet summer Sunday evening and took my wife. The place wasn't crowded, and we were seated quickly. So far, so good. The townies were in play! I asked for a draft beer list. I didn't feel it in the moment but that is where the train jumped off of the track! Instead, I received a QR code. Fine. I've played this game before and it worked great, taking me directly to the current beer list. Except this QR code didn't lead to a beer list. It led to an app. Apparently; beverages had been placed behind a technological security checkpoint. I'm not in the habit of collecting unnecessary restaurant apps like souvenir cups, but I tried to be a good sport and downloaded it. The app then requested my personal information so I could create an account--because, evidently, viewing a draft beer list now requires the same level of commitment as applying for a mortgage. That was where I drew the line. I closed the app, deleted it, and decided I would just drink water. Then I remembered why I had come: a burger and a beer. A burger and water felt less like dinner and more like disciplinary action. So, I told my wife we needed a new plan, because we weren't eating there. We regrouped at The Irish Bred Pub in Opelika and had a great meal. No app. No account. No data harvesting. No identity verification. I didn't even need to provide the name of my first pet. Better yet, there was no need to consult a beer list--they always have Guinness on tap. I won't be back to Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint. Will my absence affect their's bottom line? Of course not. I'm one townie with unreasonable expectations--like being allowed to see what beer is available without entering into a formal digital relationship. But from this townie's perspective, the customer-engagement experience was a complete miss. The food may be outstanding. It may also be a spectacularly good value. I'll never know because I couldn't make it past the beer-menu background check. Potenial customers keep doing what you're doing. Just understand that anyone who wants to see the draft beer list will apparently need to surrender an email address first. Oh--and for the record, I never even clicked the QR code for the food menu. By then, I had already exceeded my administrative limit for dinner. read more

My daughter goes to Auburn, and she mentioned Jack Brown's as a great hamburger joint. It took over for Cheeseburger Cheeseburger. The restaurant has a typical college eatery vibe. She suggested I order the Dr Gonzo Burger. Wow. Maybe the best burger I've had in a very long time. Absolutely amazing!!! There is an outside area where we went as the place was freezing. We were enticed by the concept of specialty burgers available each night and came in to try to the Pickolas Cage. We also got the Greg Brady and a side of fries to share. They allowed us to sample different beers on draft before making a selection, which was cool! The burgers were surprisingly small for the price and not super flavorful. The fries and special sauce were really good. We would come back to try the loaded fries, but this probably wouldn't be our go to spot for burgers. read more

Solid dive bar burgers and fries with cold beer on top. Just what we were looking for after a long day of traveling. The restaurant only had two servers when we visited on a Monday night, but despite that the service was fast, friendly, and timely. The burgers were solid and unpretentious. We went to Jack Browns Beer and Burger Joint looking for a good burger and man we hit the spot. It was gameday and they was super busy and had a wait which was fine. We ended up sitting at the bar and our waiter did a good job taking care of us. The food I had heard about the Greg Brady burger but it had macaroni and cheese on it. Which I am not a fan of. So I went with the Elvis Burger . Fries don't come with the meal but for 5.99 you can share a basket. Definitely hit this place if you are in town and don't worry about the wait. read more

Solid burger joint with unique burgers and awesome flavors. It's also a nice place to get a beer with friends. The service was good and we had a great time. I came in with a group of 6 on the Sunday of graduation weekend and we all had enjoyable meals. I will say they have a small menu and it's pretty much just burgers and fries. I ordered the Elvis burger which had peanut butter on it and it was really good and unique. I also ordered some sweet potato fries that were absolutely delicious. Not to mention- they also had my favorite beer, the Paradise Now from TrimTab in Birmingham. We all had a great time and can't wait to stop by next time we're in town. read more

I love Jack Brown's in Birmingham. It is literally one of my all time favorite restaurants. Was so excited to see one in my hometown buuuuttttt it just doesn't live up to expectations. I want to chalk it up to the fact that we got it to go....bbbuuuuttttt from the other reviews I guessing there is just something missing here. Jack Brown's was a last minute decision for dinner after our visit to Auburn. Walked in and were greeted with a friendly waitress. We were in a hurry so we honestly didn't spend a terribly long time looking over the menu. We knew we wanted burgers and sweet potato fries. I ordered the Dr. Gonzo (onions, mushrooms, Swiss, bacon, thin sliced pickles) and my daughter ordered the Classic Jack (onions, pickles, sauce, cheese) and both of us loved them. Great flavor. The buns were outstanding which was a surprise to both of us. Tasted homemade. We split the sweet potato fries. They were a nice sweet and salty mix. Overall, the food and service were great. My daughter gave the burgers her "best in Auburn" award. I'll give the Dr. Gonzo a top-3. The atmosphere is completely bar / beer garden vibe. Jack Brown's has one of the best burgers ever... at their Birmingham and Nashville locations. Unfortunately, this one in Auburn was just okay. The burger didn't have enough seasoning and the fries were way over cooked. The servers were very polite but service was so extremely slow. Also, prices have doubled. Went to Jack Brown's in Birmingham and had the best experience- food was great and service was amazing. Came to the one in Auburn and to say the least it wasn't even sub par. The fries were burnt up! We ate our burger before the fries even came because they had to cook them the 2nd time then they were still burnt. We just took them off the bill and didn't have fries. We went tonight hopeful to find something special. Alas, we did not. We waited 70 minutes for two hamburgers. Our waiter came over at the 30 minute point with an excuse but not an apology. It was apparent that he had not put in our order. He did not come back to our table after that point, leaving it to the other servers to clean up. The kitchen was total chaos. The servers were lifting buns with plastic forks trying to determine what was in the pass. When the food finally came, it was not better than a typical fast food burger with frozen French fries. The atmosphere was good but the music was a bit too loud to have a conversation. Ultimately, they did comp our meal which was appreciated. We might try again after they have time to get their processes improved but there are a lot of better burgers in town. read more

Stopped in here, two adults and two kids. Was looking for something to eat late night in town. This was one of only places in town that that was not a bar and open past 9 PM. Granted, the menu is pretty limited but the burgers and fries were excellent. Disappointing. I've been here 4 times, keep coming back to try, as I want to like it. So hard to find a good burger, but this really isn't all that good. You'd think a place that only serves burgers would do it well. But it's always extremely greasy, literally dripping and oozing grease, and they never cook the burger correctly to my order. First time going in, didn't even eat, and I'll never go back. First of all, let me say it was game weekend so I understand they're busy. This doesn't excuse the extreme rudeness of the workers. When it was apparent we couldn't get a table, nor stay, I politely asked the manager to void an order one of my friends placed. Instead of reciprocating, the manager said "Fine, get the hell out." Ok burger was dry, a little grease doesn't hurt. The onions and mushrooms added a bit a flavor and moisture to the burger. And the burger is the same size from Cook Out. I'm pretty sure these are the same fries from Cook Out. The fries Oreos were actually decent. I'm pretty sure $22 is not the ideal amount. If I was drunk after a good game day I would order again. If I had no other choice and Culver's and Five Guys were closed I'll order from here. Remember burger, fries, and 4 fried Oreos is 22.33.
