This office has little regard for their patients' privacy or time. I've dealt with this doctor three times in the last 10 months or so, and none of them have been a good experience. The first time was for a routine physical. The PA who saw me was kind and earnest, but didn't bother to close the door to the exam room while interviewing me about private medical information. I was literally being stared at by some random man sitting outside the office while I was listing medical information. Overall, not a great experience, but not bad enough to turn me away entirely. The second time, I was having recurring stomach pain and made an appointment about 10 days out. After arriving early for my appointment, I waited 90 minutes before getting up and leaving. Luckily, my stomach pain seemed to be resolving naturally and they hadn't charged me the co-pay yet, so I felt OK about walking out. You could make the argument that I would've been helped had I waited, but 90 minutes is already generous on my part. Yesterday, I tested positive for COVID. I called Dr. Shek's office in the afternoon to get a prescription for Paxlovid. The FO told me that Dr. Shek was too busy to speak to me, but would call me back after 5pm. I received a call back at 8pm from a nurse, who asked me to call CVS and pass along their contact information. The nurse was nice and seemed to want to help, but I'm at a loss at how this 9-5 office is still catching up with patient needs at 8pm. They're still using physical records for patients, which is concerning for any medical office in 2024. Perhaps this is indicative of a larger organizational issue and lack of cohesive effort. Please find another PCP if able. This provider cannot give you the timely attention you deserve for your health. read more

I wrote my previous review 7 years ago and am just now getting a response. I'm reading other reviews and noticing things got worse. As a follow up to my photo and review from long ago , I can confirm the pharmacy rep got to see Dr.Shek before I did and that was always infuriating because I was patiently waiting in the lobby with the hen and the piles of magazines, not the pharmacy rep. I would see them roll their luggage bags in, bring the staff Starbucks or food and then do the sales rep thing and laugh and talk to Dr.Shek about vacations, family updates, basically anything but the latest pharmaceutical drugs they were selling. They would do this in plain view while all the patients were waiting for an hour plus pass their appointment time in the lobby. If you're reading this while you're waiting to see Dr.Shek in the lobby, go run errands and come back and you'll still be waiting. read more

I had an appointment at 11:30 AM. I arrived at 11:10 AM because I was a new patient. When I approached the desk in the crowded waiting room, none of the office staff acknowledged me for almost five minutes. Finally, when I spoke up, I was told to sign in on the sheet. I explained that I was a new client, but they only repeated the same thing with an annoyed look on their faces. So I signed in and sat down. I waited for another thirty minutes, expecting to be asked for my ID and medical information, as they were busy. However, when it hit noon, I approached the desk again, and they finally asked for my info. I handed it over, expecting to be given forms to fill out, but was ignored for another three minutes before being told to sit down. Since there was no seating available, I stood where I could, but after a while, I expected to be called back or something, as it was now almost 12:15 PM, and I had yet to do anything besides hand over my card. I overheard a few other people who had been there before me saying that they had been waiting for almost an hour and a half. At this point, I knew I wouldn't be able to make it to work, so I went to the desk, asked for an update, and was told that there were five patients ahead of me. I asked if this was the normal wait time for the office or just a busy day, and I was informed that it was usually this busy. I asked for my ID and card back, asked them to remove me from their system, and left since it was now almost 1 PM, and I had to get to work. Whats the point of appointments when you overlook and have people waiting hours just to be seen? The office was small, dusty, and had an ungodly amount of photos and statues of biblical sense. I wasn't upset about the office space itself, but rather the sheer unprofessionalism of the five people at the front desk who would rather talk and gossip with each other than actually input patients into the system. It also seemed like there was only one doctor in the whole place, and I wasn't sure about the three random people who went into the exam areas with food, coffee, and just general chatter. I could also overhear every word from the patient and doctor doing the exam in the waiting room while it was packed, so there was no semblance of patient-doctor confidentiality when you could hear everything. I cant believe this doctor is still in business. If i can give a negative stars rating, i would give it. My grandparents used David Shek as their primary doctor in the early 2010. After their visits, they had nothing but bad experience. Everything other reviewers have said about this doctor office is true. David Shek's wife and the office staffs were just god awful people, they would push you into insurance network you dont need and their way to handling your prescriptions is just unprofessional. Now come to my personal experience, i interacted with Francis, David Shek's wife, twice. 1 time in their office and another time unsolicited when we ran into them in a restaurant unexpectedly. For some reason, she loved to point out about my short chin and the small group of acne scars on my neck. (Typical Asian DNA) I am not sure what was she thinking but that wont attracts me to be their client at all. It is HUMILIATING. She felt like those school bullies that loves to pick on your personal flaws. They should just retire, they dont belong in this business game, let alone in this 21st century environment where Internet will expose bad business practices. read more

If you can, avoid this office. The only pro is that some of the staff is great. On my first appointment, I was seen, and the office manager conducted the intake process. Now, I am not sure if the office manager is also a nurse, but she was the one who took my vitals and discussed why I was there for a visit. I only saw the doctor for 2 minutes. He did not speak to me. He only reviewed the notes made by the office manager and said he'd refer me to a specialist. I paid my $30 copay and left. Due to my case, I had to apply for state disability, and the office charges $60 to fill out the paperwork and for any recertifications needed. I think that is outrageous. They are not set up to process the paperwork online, so it has to be mailed, and they will not even mail the paperwork for you. They make their patients drop off the paperwork and come back to pick it up so that the patient can mail it out. Then, for the recertification of disability, the office manager requires that you have a consultation before they are willing to fill out the recertification. Which doesn't make sense to me because it is the same case. Nothing changed, and i didn't even see the doctor. The office manager just took my vitals. So, for the recertification, I spent another $30 for the "consultation" and $60 for the recertification. This, to me, is crazy!!! The office is an older office with older equipment which they do not clean after use. I watched another employee use the same equipment used on me with another patient without cleaning it first. The office is small and dirty. Again, if you are assigned to this doctor's office or are looking for one, do your best to avoid this office. read more

Really slow location. I've had to wait several hours after my appointment time. They also do not follow state regulations regarding controlled substances. They even wanted my pharmacists to take an incorrectly filled out prescription which is fraud. The nurse practitioner is very nasty. Shes rude and could use some customer service training. They told me to find another doctor when I was just trying to LEGALLY obtain my prescription. Avoid at all costs. Find another doctor even if it's 3x as far. read more

I had a severe UTI and was desperate to get antibiotics. I hadn't used my new insurance yet but they automatically assigned you to a PCP which for me, happens to be Dr. Shek's office. While I was getting seen by the nurse, a person stopped by and dropped off a kennel with a live hen in there. The office is very cramp and dirty and I was just off-put by the random live hen that was dropped off at the hallway where patients are seen. Not only that, the basic list of things medical personnel ask you - i.e. medical history. I told them I had liver disease yet after taking this antibiotic for about 2 days now, I noticed some severe side effects such as migraines/pounding headaches, loss of appetite. I went ahead and looked up the medication, and it's not recommended for people who has liver issues like myself. The antibiotics did cleared my UTI but they gave me a 7 day supply and now I have to find a new provider ASAP to give me a new prescription. There's no way I can work with the headache and I don't want to stop taking it so the bacteria becomes more resistant to drugs. I really lost out on here on both time, money and health! TBH, I saw the reviews before going but I was desperate and didn't want to locate a new PCP. I didn't think they can mess up giving me antibiotics prescriptions for my UTI...but here I am. I went to see the doctor 2 weeks ago. He said he was going to schedule a x-ray for me. I left the office and the next week I called Angela who was suppose to put the request in for the x-ray. She said in that call that she had.it.on her desk and she would process it immediately. Another week goes by and I hear nothing. I call her back and she says she is going to do it today. I asked if she could make it urgent because it will be processed in 3 days or less if its marked urgent. Since she had not processed it yet and I'm in pain I was hoping she would give me this courtesy. She gives me attitude and says "I told you I'm going to do it today" of which I replied "you said the same thing last week". She was rude, telling me it could be now 12-14 days from 1-7 of what she originally told me of when they will hear back from the HMO for approval for the x-rays. Dr. Shek is nice his staff is not. Everything takes so long with this office, they don't care, unconcerned about your pain, very nonchalant about everything concerning your health, and seemingly inept to what needs to be done. Avoid this office at all cost. Save yourself the headache and stress of dealing with inept, uncaring people. I'm leaving this office for a new doctor right away. read more

Dr Shek didn't address the actual issue we came in for. Prescribes OPIATES which we shredded. We are not PILL POPPERS. Orders Blood Tests for things not even part of the issue we were there for. Sounds like that within itself should drive you away from this hen house. Do hens walk around the office? In what way is this sanitary? I am pretty sure the nurse is on heroin or heavy opioids probably from her own Employer. I was offered Adderall as well as muscle relaxants like it was candy. I am pretty sure these meds don't fix either one of my issues. He did kindly offer an X-ray ... an X-ray of my stomach regarding my tight pants or my chest I was told was fine, it was due to the heat and having a cold??? What in the world!! He was very mad when I declined, I wanted out. He told me I needed them and it would be an out-of-pocket cost. He wanted to take blood and that's when I was thinking to myself "HIV" "hep C" or maybe even the swine Flu. This guy needs to be done. I walked out and they can keep my money but I wanted no drugs, I wanted no diseases and I needed to leave that rude Doctor and staff. I have since started a complaint with the medical board. I have also decided to reach out to the California Department of public health. I am also looking into health care fraud with this office.No way did I need any of these exams and did I need to be charged out of pocket. The doctor lost it the more I refused his request for exams. He is a scam artist and then I was notified that I was the issue at my new doctor's office... he slanders any patient that is honest on Yelp. I mean, the rude troll behind the kennel.... The Dr. is old and nice, but I suspect him gave my child WRONG shot. He said he won't give my child shot for HIB, however, my child's arm swelled for the reaction! I went back to the clinic the 2nd day for a report correction. When his wife showed me the medical record, I found out they put treatments that they didn't do on it. AWFUL!!!! I went there after an auto accident to get checked out and on that 1st visit all he did was try to get me to call his attorney. I got my medications and left! I needed to go back a few days later because I was experiencing new symptoms and needed help. Once again he was more concerned about calling his attorney. He even told me to call the attorney, left the room until i had called. I left. I even filed a compliant through my insurance. I still have to see him until next month when my new insurance kicks in. I'M SORRY, BUT NOT A GOOD VISIT AT ALL! I needed to find a doctor that would accept our new HMO insurance. We had PPO the year before and let me tell you it is quite the change. I wanted a doctor that was used to seen kids so I could take my 5 yr. old and my 8 yr. old and be close to home. It took some time to book appointment because Dr. Shek has limited days and hours of operation.He must be around 70 years old and seems to be very set in his ways.I made an appt. for my son's 5 yr. check up to get him ready for school. Upon arriving I had the paperwork filled out already and still took a while to be called back. There was one front office person who had to answer phones, check eligibility ,and make appointments. When our time came to be called in the assistant was very nice and friendly.I told her I needed a continuing referral for the ophthalmologist my son had been seeing. she took temperature, weight and height. She asked medical history, took the information about the eye doctor I gave her and said that the doctor would be in shortly( 10 minutes later) he comes in with a little doctor's bag and starts looking at the chart, without greeting my son or I. He took a look at the school papers, and gestured me to grab my son and sit him on my lap ( still no talking to my son who was the patient). He listened to his heart and wrote some notes on the chart and then he went out of the room. When he returned he had the syringe ready and proceeded to mumble instructions so that I would put my son on my lap again and hold his hands so that he could inject him. My son was aware of the " shot" because I told him before hand but having a doctor who hasn't said "hello" or "my name is Dr. Shek" can be very intimidating and scary for a 5 year old boy. when the appointment was done Dr. Shek told me to go and wait in the front for the referral and handed me a lab work sheet for a hemoglobin test( did not tell why he was requesting that)and seemed flustered when I told him that I did not see a reason for a lead test that he wanted done. I asked to use the restroom and took my son to the back of the office where it was and noticed that the office in general is not that clean and it had nothing to do with the fact that everything was as old as the doctor in question. I'm sure Dr. Shek was and is a great man, however, I believe a physician should interact and get to know his patients. I also think that he should try to make the experience more pleasant and less scary for his younger patients, after all he is a general practice and pediatrician. the follow up work and referrals from the front office were GREAT! But ultimately the doctor is the one running the office and I wasn't satisfied with the visit. I would not recommend this Docto.I think he should retire. I hope that my experience can help someone in making a good choice after reading my review. read more

Appointment at 3:30 you won't see the doctor till 4:30 and will won't be able to leave till 5:30 because the doctor walks in and out randomly and have to wait for him to come back every time.
