I was so happy to stumble upon Shelburne Vineyards. We stopped in after our short hike on Mount Philo, which is only a few minutes away, and our thirst was quickly quenched. For $7 I was able to sample all (!) of their wines, and I got to keep the glass. It was beautiful inside the tasting room, and you can see through the numerous windows that you're surrounded by rows upon rows of grape vines. The wine was tasty and the staff knowledgeable. This was an impromptu stop as we drove around, killing time before our tour at Magic Hat Brewery. What a great stop. The staff was knowledgeable, fun, and friendly. Maybe this is just because I live in Chicago and I'm used to high prices, but I was amazed that you could try 8 wines for $5, and also take the wine glass home with you. That doesn't happen in the city. The woman in the tasting room also told my husband and I to stagger our choices, and that if we did so, we could split a couple of the tastings, so we'd both end up being able to try a little of all of their wines. We bought some cheese and a glass of wine each and sat out on their lovely patio area, looking out at the vineyard. It was a simple, great, way to spend a summer afternoon. read more

Great place to grab a wine sampler; $7 gets you a sample of almost all the wine that they make, you even get to keep the glass. The people who work there are very friendly and knowledgeable. They offer a chocolate and wine pairing as well or wines by the glass; nice place to stop and relax. Right across the street is a good brewery and a great pizza place. read more

Not a great vineyard experience. We tried to get the cheese pairing and wine tasting for 2 people at the inside air conditioned bar but they said we had to go outside if we wanted the cheese plate. We noticed a couple doing their wine tasting with cheese at the inside bar.... So we went out side and luckily found a table for 4 under the awning. Thankfully it was in the shade because it was muggy and sunny. I asked the outside server for a tasting and a cheese plate. He said yeah but he'd have to check to see if they had anymore more cheese left. We got our tasting glasses and the first pour ; the usual bottle stopper amount of about 20 mls. Then we waited and waited and then I had to make eye contact to get our next tiny pour. Another girl staff person came around and asked what were were on. That was understandable. She poured and then we had to wait and wait for either of them to pour each wine in succession. I never got my cheese plate but a couple in their 60s who sat down after us. The wines were fine, we didn't purchase any. The service and rules were lame. read more

My wife and I stopped in on a recent road trip to Burlington, and w were looking for a fun distraction before heading home. Sure it was busy, and crowded, but the grounds are beautiful, the tour was free, and the wine was flowing. The tasting room is large and comfortable, and the selection is varied. I mean, look folks: This is New England. We're not exactly known for our wines, so you're not going to be blown away by the wine itself, though I was impressed with it compared to other East Coast wineries. One of the things I love about this vineyard is that technology permeates every aspect of the wine making process. They're using some really interesting grape varieties developed in university labs in the midwest. It makes for a fascinating story, so make sure to ask your tour guide about it. If you're a fan of wine, you're in the Burlington area and you have a couple of hours to kill, I think you should stop in. It's a pleasant way to pass the time. read more

The reserve Marquette is something to keep an eye on. The last release was the first to come from fully mature vines. Vastly superior to the Cab Francs produced in Vt and the Finger Lakes regions. This will be the flagship red varietal for the North East. The regular release Marquette is very good as well. The vineyard is beautiful, and the tasting room is quaint and comfortable. Only complaint would be that the ladies working behind the tasting counter were more interested in chatting than serving the wine tasting, and didn't offer a lot of info on the wines, particularly the new varietal Marquette. It is a must stop though as the wine is not exported, and the Marquette is a must taste. read more

Wine was decent, not great. We had the Marquette 2017 and the 2016 Reserve. The young lady at the counter, a nutritionist who recently graduated from college, was not welcoming and did not have a good friendly attitude. She became unpleasant and made the atmosphere uncomfortable when we tried to make small talk, in a diplomatic and general way, about politics and Vermont. She needs to learn tolerance, courtesy, and the ability to make and take a joke. Wow, lighten up. read more

I'm a regular here but each time I go the staff gets more and more rude. When I went to the bbq and bluegrass event, the staff closed our tab without us asking. I recently just went with my sister for her bachelorette party and the bartender originally told us $12 each because it was a large group which is understandable but then as we checked out she rang us up at $15. She was consistently rude the entire tasting. The original plan was to get glasses to drink and hangout there but we couldn't leave soon enough. Love the wine, staff isn't great. read more

So, I grew up in CA wine country, and have worked in the tasting room of a winery back home. With that said, Shelburne Vineyard was good for a winery in the northeast. Were the wines as good as California wines? No. But they were pretty tasty for northeastern wines! The woman pouring wasn't overly friendly (she was politely neutral) and neither engaged us in conversation nor gave us much information about what we were drinking, but she wasn't unfriendly either. This place is right across the street from Fiddlehead Brewery-you can definitely do them both. The tasting was nice, you can choose 8 of their 12 or so wines. They have red, white and dessert. Great Vineyards, tasty wines top notch service. Stopped in after checking out Otter creek, and having planned to visit this place the night before while at Fiddlehead. The place is very clean and inviting. Bathrooms are also clean. The kind folks at Shelburne even put out a nice plate with local offerings to snack on while you taste wine. THe wine's were very tasty, and the price for the offerings are more than fair. Places to sit and enjoy your wine inside and out. Will go back whenever I am in the area. read more

I've actually never once have written a review before but I feel as though, people should be aware before considering to go to this establishment. My experience was something I've never encountered before. We were sat, we waited twenty minutes to be waited on. Once waited on, we were told that they are busy and could only provide us one flight when we asked for two but would bring the other one over when they could. When I asked if we could order cheese, I was told by the manager that there has been people there longer than us and we would need to wait. We waited thirty minutes for the other flight and nothing. No one even bothered with us or even had the decency to say, we will be right with you. Finally, i just asked to be checked out. I was very confused as to why all the staff was overwhelmed and it seemed to have a lot to do with organization and how the manager was directing their staff. The manager seemed to be more worried about complaining to people that they were busy rather than waiting on people. The whole place was completely dysfunctional. I understand the world is short staffed but there is a way to ensure that you are professional and let people know that you do want their business. As a manager, you should never say that people have been waiting longer, so you'll have to wait. Instead, you should say I will put that right in but it might just be a little bit because we are backed up. It saddens me because this is such a beautiful vineyard but my experience was awful and believe the dysfunction between staff and the manager around their organizational skills will cause this place to go downhill. read more

my new husband and i were in town for our mini-moon, and happened upon Shelburne Vineyard after doing a quick tasting at Fiddlehead, across the street. i am SO GLAD we came. we had a wonderful tasting with Noelle, who happened to be from MA, from where we were visiting. she and my husband had a nice chat about their stomping grounds back home. the wines were simply delicious. all very balanced, and "friendly," there wasn't a single one that i didn't enjoy. i appreciated the brief description/introduction provided for each, and that the staff don't really tell you what you "should" expect to taste, so you really do get to pay attention to your palate. the highlight for me was the rose- oh so berries and vanilla, we bought a bottle of this to go. we enjoyed a glass of wine each outside on the terrace, enjoying the weather and the lovely view of the vines. Wrigley, the dog of one of the winemakers, was a wonderful treat, and the highlight of our visit. very well behaved. if you're in the area, and you like delicious wine even a little bit, please visit Shelburne Vineyard. you won't be disappointed. read more

Nice vineyard with a nice out door seating area overlooking the vines. It was my first time here and it was a good experience overall. The staff is friendly and seem very knowledgeable. I personally wasn't a big fan of most of their wines as I found them to be on the sweeter side, however there were a handful I did enjoy. Tastings are $8 per person which is not bad at all and you get to keep the wine glass. My only real complaints are the fact that it was very busy and there was only 1 person (inside) tending to every guest which I thought was ridiculous especially considering it was a Saturday afternoon. In addition, a glass of wine is $7 which is pricey in my opinion especially when you can buy a bottle for $15+.. BUT be warned that if you buy a bottle you are not allowed to drink it on the premises which was stupid in my opinion. I understand it's probably to make money but it's an obnoxious rule given the fact that you are paying for it and would like to relax and enjoy the view. It was the first vineyard I've ever been to that has had that rule. Anyway, I might stop by here again in the future if I'm in the area but it wouldn't be my first option. read more

We came here for my sisters Bachelorette party and we're highly disappointed. A few of us have been to the establishment a few times and have always had a great experience until this specific time. When we walked in, we were greated by a very friendly employee. She congratulated our Bachelorette and even asked her when her wedding was! She then went to get assistance from "Tori". Another female came out and we asked if she was Tori and in a snarky attitide said "who's Tori?". Unfortunately for us, this female ended up being our server. She was not very friendly and just had a negative attitude the entire tasting. She even made the remark to two of our guests "in case you weren't listening..." Which made them feel very uncomfortable. Then to top it all off, when we first looked into including Shelburne Vineyard on our trip it was $9 a person for the tasting. Then we're told it was $12 because we had a party of 8. We ended up paying $15 a person which is absolutely ridiculous because that is a completely different price from what we were told. I am highly disappointed and I will not be returning. read more

I always try to come up with a few places to take visiting friends and family when they "get away" to VT. Shelburne Vineyard (only a few minutes from Burlington) is a great place to take them! The wine tasting is fun and the grounds and building are beautiful. All three times I've been here the owners are present. The husband takes you through a little tour and the wine making process and the wife rings you up for any purchases you make. I'm a fan of their whites but I haven't loved any reds I've tried. Regardless, a great place to visit for an afternoon. read more

My wife and I stopped by here on the 28th of July. We were allowed to try several of the wines (it's only $5 to try all of the wines and you get a souvenir glass). The young lady working at the time was very knowledgeable and explained a lot about how each wine was made. We ended up purchasing a bottle of their ice cider (similar to ice wine, but made with apples - it was delicious). We also purchased a bottle of the Whimsey Meadow Rose. It was a great time and we were able to enjoy a nice glass of the Meadow Rose on the patio. Very laid back atmosphere and a beautiful property. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My friend came to VT for a visit and I wanted to take her here because I've had great experiences in the past. We got there at 5:15 and all we heard for the rest of our time there is how they were closing at 6. The staff was unbelievably unwelcoming and flat out rude. The wine and cheese pairing that we did was delicious but I will never go there again because of how we were treated. If you do go, make sure you go at a time that is more convenient for the staff so you'll have a better experience. read more

Nice tasting room right off the main route 7. They have lot of whites that run the gamut. The reds were not to my taste but my wife liked the white blend that was drinkable and the ice wine. We arrived just past 4 pm and were looking to taste some of the wines; the employee present told us that since it had been slow, they had "already put away most of the bar stuff" but there were 6 open bottles of wine (both red and white) on the counter. Their website says "Our Tasting Room is open 7 days a week, all year. 11:00 am - 5:00 pm November through April" so this was just poor customer service and laziness oh her part. The young woman pouring our tasting was incredibly friendly and chatted with us about the area and gave us tips on places to visit while also telling us all about the different wines they make, how they're made, etc. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Tasting was only $7 for a good amount of different wines. The bartender was very knowledgeable in the types of wine and answered any questions we had. I attended an event held by my best friend here and the organization and professionalism by the staff was exceptional. They were extremely helpful during the entire process of setting up and serving. They were very personable and down-to-earth yet at the same time knew how to conduct themselves in a professional manner. The wine tasting was fabulous. The wine bar staff were spot-on when it came to knowledge of each wine they sampled for us yet were not matter-of-fact which is normally something I would expect from a place like this. After reading the other reviews, I'm bummed that my friends and I had such a bad experience here. We traveled here in April 2011. I know the vineyards weren't exactly blooming, but we at least wanted to see inside and taste some wine. We arrived during their business hours, but received awful customer service. The woman behind the counter saw us walk in, but didn't greet us until we were standing at the counter for a few seconds. She was very matter of the fact and acted as though we were bothering her. There was six of us and we were the only ones there. I asked about a tour and she said there were no tours..... ok that's interesting because it says open year round. We were there on a Friday afternoon. So then I asked about wine tasting. She said we could purchase a glass of wine, but that's it. No option to get samples of different wines, just to buy glasses of them for $6 each. Well we decided we could do that at any restaurant and with no tour, we left. It's just that she was so unfriendly and literally acted like we were a burden.... we were just trying to give her business. I am even more dissatisfied knowing that others had great experiences and were able to taste their wines and receive a souvenir glass for $5. I would definitely never recommend this place. We were on a road trip and went a bit of a ways off our journey because we had read about this place and wanted to check it out. Very, very disappointing and a big waste of time. read more

Worth a stop for a quick "10 wines for $7" tasting if you're in the area- nothing too fancy, just some solid, local wines to try. The purveyor was very sweet and patient with us, and I found their wines to be pretty tasty (we bought a bottle of the Porch Rocker to take home, although there were 2 or 3 others I was seriously considering as well).
