Say what you will about bigger retailers but my experience is they absolutely make an effort to ask if you're finding what you need, etc., often multiple times by different employees....and the smaller shops do as well even if it's just the cashier shouting across the store. On the positive side they had more fun packaging / promo boxes (including glassware, etc.) that make good gifts, and that could be really useful, and also the location of the store is convenient in the area and has easy access from both sides of the corner.
