If I could give a zero, I would. Do NOT take your car to Tony's. You will be overcharged by double. Unfortunately, I had no choice. My thermostat needed to be immediately replaced. Tony's was a AAA suggested spot. They charged me double what my service guy estimated, and double what another AAA repair shop estimated for the same service. Absolute rip off. Ladies in the front of the shop were very nice. Mechanic not so much. I feel I was taken advantage of and would tell everyone to find any other facility to service your car. read more

Currently Back at Tonys Repair Shop due to a failed smog test. Called and let them know my car failed. They told me it was due to my check engine light showing a different code that they repaired. But my car initially smoked during the smog test got it retested and had failed again. Called and told them I had this problem and they said to come tomorrow and I gave them a time frame. Its 9am and now they are saying they arent able to look at my car until Noon. I find that an inconvenience because they could have let me know that before I drove to the spot at 9 am. Then I recieved some sort of analogy based on why I had to wait and it was like a dentist. It seemed like my car was not thoroughly diagnosed for a full smog check pass and they just looked at the code and assumed that was what was wrong with the car. I wouldnt be making this review right now if I recieved a bit more professionalism regarding the time frame and then to be told by the mechanic I brought in different paperwork last time and thats the reason for his miss diagnosis rather then telling me he is going to fix the issue and find out whats wrong was a very rude and not true because its the same exact paper work I brought in initially. I will be updating my review throughout this process but for now Tonys Repair Shop has been a let down. Update: Same Day- Much better experience after getting my car re-diagnosed. Was told that my car needed an oil change and some additives because the old oil was improper and caused the car to smoke. I really appreciated the fact they got my car back to me before noon when initially I was told thats when they would look at it so cheers to them for working diligently. My alternator died at night on a busy freeway. AAA got me a tow and referred me to Tony's Auto. I live in the North Bay and knew nothing about this shop. The owner was just closing up when we arrived. He put down his lunch bag and started my paperwork immediately. The car was tucked away for the night which made me feel better. He then made sure I had a ride home. They called the next morning with a quote ($1200) which included the alternator, a battery, and two belts plus labor. Actually labor is more than the parts which I don't find surprising. I approved and they had my car ready by that afternoon. Everyone I spoke with, owner, desk and mechanic were very nice. Time to find another mechanic. We have brought our cars here for the past 10 years, when they have needed work. Thought they were honest... until we called and asked for the price of a cabin filter replacement. Donna took the year, make and model and called back later that day. Donna said $78. Brought the car in, didn't have us sign a work order, just started working on the car... 30 minutes later the guy walks in the waiting room and said it would be $230! TRIPLE the price they quoted. He said he didn't know it would be so much work to get to the air filter. No DUH.. otherwise I would have done it myself. But we did call and we did give specific info on the car. It's their job to do the research to see what it takes to get the job done. I told them NOPE and took it to the dealership which was $100 cheaper! We will not be returning. read more

I will never take my car anywhere else. I had been here before and the staff and service was amazing. Earlier this week I needed a quick oil change ( I live in SF) so I went to a huge chain, not Tony's. This huge chain always tells me I need a transmission fuel change, and 10 other things that are wrong with my car. I ignored that advice and am glad I did. The large company forgot to check my maintenance light when I left, so I assumed something was wrong still. I sheepishly pulled up to Tony's to ask them if there was something else wrong with my car, bc the light was still on. They said no, the big chain just forgot to click off the light. I also mentioned the other things the large chain said would be a problem, and one of the super lovely and friendly staff looked at my transmission fluid and reassured me everything was okay. For FREE! I was in and out in 5-10 minutes and they were so kind. Everyone I work with brings their cars here and says the same. I am not good with cars at all. Today my low pressure tire light came on and I went to the local gas station to get some air in, somehow the air slipped out quicker than it came in. In desperation I went to Tonys as I live close by. They took my car in, put pressure in all of them, reset the sensor and didn't want a single payment. People might say "payment for air". I kept Calling them. The lady on reception just said: you need to go to dmv and talk to them. My car failed smog. A mechanic friend and I messed around with it for a few weeks trying to get it straighten out with the help of some aftermarket software and online forums but didn't succeed. Called the shop, listened to my concerns for my vehicle and what I was looking for. I brought my car in and since they weren't busy they had their initial diagnosis done within an hour. This place is the best! They have been so helpful. I have an older vehicle and they take good care of it and I always feel confident in the time they spend, explain things and getting things done quickly. Example..yesterday..I couldn't pass smog and I brought my van to Bernardo at about 3pm and he did some computer readings, found out I needed a thermostat, he had the part by 4 and my van was ready just after 5pm! We brought the car in for a scheduled preventative maintenance, simple oil change and tire rotation. We left for a few hours after some time we wondered what was taking so long they were bull shitting around the computer, started working on the vehicle when we came back, We thought it was odd that Dave didn't use a Torque wrench to verify factory torque aspects after using Pneumatic gun to tighten the lug nuts for a tire rotation that costed an additional $28. We discovered after driving off the lug nut was missing (did Dave not secure it properly or did he forget to put it on) makes you wonder if the rest of them are even secure. They charge Union Prices for Scab Labor this is what you get in return. read more

HATE that I have to review this place because, let's be real, who actually wants to go to a repair shop. LOVE the service, response time, and honesty. My husband's car blew an oil line on the freeway, which ultimately led to a seized motor. We had it towed to Tony's and expected to wait a few days to have any answers. Within hours, they were able to run some tests and let him know what the deal was without having him wait around anxiously. They even let us leave the car parked in front where they could watch it (while we deliberated the next steps for a few days). When we went to get our car, their staff was happy to sit and talk through options, and when we checked their estimate against other resources, we learned they were being 100% honest. They really didn't want us to waste time or money.
