Went in for an oil change on my BMW and left with a masterclass in corporate upselling. Asked for the standard oil change -- quoted $135 for "European spec." Tech says he can't just do standard because it's a Euro car. Fine. Then the bill comes to $175 because apparently my car "needed" 2 extra quarts at $15 each. For reference, that's highway robbery pricing on quarts of oil. When I asked why it costs so much more, I got the classic line: "Euro cars take longer to work on." Except I have a BMW -- the oil filter sits right on top of the engine and the drain plug is as standard as it gets. This is not a hard car to service. I know this because I timed him: 12 minutes, tire pressure check included. He even admitted he could do 4 "American" cars in that same window -- so by his own math, my car was the easy one. I asked point blank if they'd been bought out by private equity. He said yes -- used to be Shell-owned, recently sold to a PE firm. I asked if corporate told him to feed customers the "Euro cars are harder" line to justify the markup. He said yes, corporate script. So to summarize: no extra labor, no extra difficulty, just a manufactured excuse to justify a $40+ upcharge dreamed up after a PE buyout. At least the guy was honest with me when pressed -- but that doesn't make the pricing any less of a scam. Do not bring a European car here, and honestly, don't bring any car here. Find an independent shop that doesn't need a corporate script to justify robbing you. read more

I would maybe not recommend this place as a woman maybe especially as a younger woman. I just had a pretty bad experience there with one of the employees. The service itself was fine (I was just getting an oil change) but one of the employees was pretty rude to me and tried to upsell me a lot. He very quickly tried to get me to sign for the more expensive option (that for my car was not necessary even though he claimed it was) without giving me time to think, and then he was immediately even ruder when I opted for the cheaper options and also seemed to make fun of me for asking questions. He was nice to the two men who also came in for service, however. I just think if you are a woman, maybe especially a younger woman, go somewhere else. I for sure will not be back here. Once again I am going to write this and post my previous reviews that for some reason they either took it down or the business decided that this is the best way to avoid the truth that their company employs a very shitty employee. This is probably the same guy everyone is talking about. Went in earlier and was told to move my van to the third stall. The two younger guys never told me to not drive in the stall. It was empty so I assumed that they want me in. The red fat bearded guy started yelling for me to stop and back the hell up! Then he continued to mumbled something along the line of why the hell did I drive in and that god dang something not audible. Well fat boy, fyi none of you f***s tell me otherwise. If someone never got an oil change here before. I had my oil change at Valvoline and you drive in so excuse me for not knowing! I went in to try to get an oil change the worker Conner had the worst attitude ever. Very entitled and dismissive, and had a really bad anger management problem. I asked for an estimate before I come in and he went haywire on me. He aggressively open my door without telling me as my arm was resting on the door I almost fell out of my van. Meanwhile there was not even one car in the shop and he was inside sitting down when I pulled in. I felt bad for the guy who had to work with him. So I went down the street to Perfect Lube and got the best oil change I ever received in my life. This location lost one of my valve stem caps, not a huge deal but NOBODY at this location seems to want to help find it! The manager is NEVER there, I've called and shown up in person. The people I speak to don't work at that location, covering for someone but cannot help me. The attitude is less than helpful or caring. They also did a terrible job of cleaning my windshield. I had a full synthetic oil change and an automatic transmission service performed. It was uneventful, the windows were cleaned, the interior got a fast vacuum cleaning. Not expected but appreciated. The process took longer than anticipated but the service writer gave me a better discount coupon than the one I brought with me. I was satisfied with the work. The waiting room was clean. I did note their restroom was out of order. I'm a repeat customer and will continue to go to Jiffylube for basic oil changes. Fast and friendly service just like all my other experiences with Jiffy Lube. This one is a little weird to get in to if you don't know where you're going but you turn on Brittan and then hang a quick right to go down kind of a tiny street behind all the shops and the entrance is there. Not hard to figure out. I'm super glad they are driving your car into the work area for you again though - most locations had stopped doing that during covid... rather, they had you drive it in yourself - but now it's back to the usual. This review should be shared between San Mateo and the San Carlos Jiffy Lube. I have a 2003 GMC 2500hd Diesel. I called the SM location as that was the closest and asked for a quote on my vehicle. They quoted me a price and told me to come on down, the bays are empty. I immediately got in my truck however the shop called back and shared that they realized that they didn't have the necessary oil, thus could I go to San Carlos? It's only 10min further and SM confirmed that they called the shop already and that they had the oil and filter. I then confirmed the price would be the same, thus I headed down to SC. I rolled up and they quoted me a price appx. 40% higher than the SM shop. I told them about my phone calls and they told me to sit tight. After over 15mins of waiting at an open bay, they came out to share that they don't have the oil and could I go to their Redwood City location. At this time, I chose to simply leave and never to return. I'm sure I'm not the typical vehicle they see everyday but it's as easy as looking up my year/model and engine on their system, confirming if they have the filter and oil, and quoting me a price. I rolled up to this Jiffy Lube location about 30 minutes before close and even though there were a number of cars ahead of me which would take me well past closing time, they were willing to let me in. I, on the other hand, thought about leaving but I'm glad I stayed because they got me out of there in almost exactly 30 minutes. I told the guy in charge that I had a $100 gift certificate and would be paying the rest with cash. He said not to worry...he would make sure the charges didn't exceed $100. True to his word, he punched some keys and crunched some numbers and the total came to $99 and change. I appreciated that, because my Jiffy Lube oil changes ALWAYS go over $100, even before add-ons. Speaking of add-ons, the reason this will be my new Jiffy Lube is because they didn't try to sell me shit I don't need like my usual location on Van Ness in SF. That location never fails to try to push various filters on me. Sometimes I'm too tired to argue and just go with it, figuring that it can't hurt and I do tend to be very proactive about car care so I don't always mind an extra $30-ish here and there. Most egregiously, though, the Van Ness people once tried to tell me that I needed to have my transmission flushed because the fluid was very dirty...within MONTHS of my having had my transmission rebuilt! They didn't even blink or deny when I called them out on it. So when these guys here didn't try to sell me any filters I made a comment about my past experiences in SF. They told me that my cabin air filter was indeed a little dirty but nothing that needed immediate changing...it could wait until next time. And guess where I'll be going next time? Not Van Ness! They may be closer to home, but this place is minutes from work so I no longer need to fend off those sneaky, greedy mofos up in the city. Thanks, San Carlos Jiffy Lube! I have had the worst experience at the San Mateo Jiffy Lube. Why? Well because they often take about an hour to do just a simple oil change. I wanted to try another location and see if the company's name stands up or not? The answer is yes. The San Carlos location rocks! They have enough employees working here, they are kind and move fast. I had this whole bad of things to keep me side tracked because I'm so used to waiting. Never had a chance to open up my book. Been going here for years. No more. Went on a Saturday in February and they didn't check or correct tire pressure. They did not reset my dashboard indicator. They did not put a reminder sticker on my windshield. They try to sell me an air filter every single time when it is not necessary. Service done was a full synthetic oil change, and the irresponsible jiffy lube [fill in the blank] so called technicians STRIPPED my oil drain plug. Additionally, they also changed the oil on my wife's Jeep Cherokee, and our main mechanic just found the oil filter had been loose, causing oil to leak all over the under carriage for many months. Have gone here the past three times to have my oil changed by them. Walked in sunday at 5pm after work but they had just closed so went to pep boys down the street to buy the oil and filter myself to do at home because i needed it by today. Noticed an extreme amount of dripping on my rack and pinion and thought oh great power steering is out so i cleaned it up with a rag and went back to changing my oil and drained it then went to prepping myself to remove the oil filter which always is located in the most inconvenient spot and the first few twists are a killer. ...reach up i nudged the filter feeling for it and it unscrewed partially. I am concerned at this point for the service jiffy lube provides if they cant tighten down an oil filter. Now i am monitoring my car because I still see oil leaking after i finished replacing it and drove around for a bit. This issue has nothing to do with certification. I know everyone in there is capable to tighten an oil filter. My issue is why did this not happen? im glad I walked in when they were closing to find this out because I will not return. My truck is much more valuable and reliable to ruin the engine with negligence of simply turning the filter on properly. and when i mean nudged with two fingers and it unscrewed i think they even forgot to screw it down completely cause oil was dripping from the bottom edge of it. read more

After a poor experience at another JL I headed to the JL in San Carlos. I could not have had a better experience. I was greeted in a very friendly manner. The young man even held the door open for me as I went into the waiting room! All three guys working were helpful and pleasant. They got my car done SO quickly and they helped me get the most out of my coupon. I would certainly return to this JL. Waiting room is clean. They had decent coffee and a nice tv.
