Dr.Drew is still running this place! DAMN! I haven't been in in about 4 years but I was happy to see my man is still in charge. I go to the VA down the street from this Shell Station regularly. I have seriously never been to a business and been shown the same level of respect and appreciation as I have always recieved from Drew and his employees at Beacon Shell. Back in 2010 when I was injured in Afghanistan and found myself on disability. I had a chip on my shoulder for real. I came here after a particularly painful treatment at the VA and overheard a cashier calling me a stupid donkey in Arabic. (I speak Arabic fluently) I was way out of line in my response. I will admit that. But what impressed me was the calm way that Drew diffused the situation. He somehow immediately knew I was a veteran. Showed me compassion yet he didn't throw his employee under the bus either. I could tell that he and the short Egyptian guy were friends. He took me outside so the cashiers couldn't hear what he was saying to me. He calmly reminded me that everyone has problems and you never know what is going on in someone's personal life. The truth of the matter was that both myself and this cashier had plenty of pain in our personal lives and all both of us needed was someone to start an argument with us and then it would be on! Thankfully for both of us Dr.Drew was there to calm the situation down. Glad to see you still holding down the store brotha. Wish I had more time to talk today. I lived on Beacon Hill for 24 years and the Beacon Ave Shell station is my go to gasoline station. The manager Drew is extremely friendly and helpful. Food is great. One time I went to the deli, ordered catfish and placed my wallet down on the counter as I reached for some napkins to put into my bag. I left my wallet on the counter. The incident was captured on camera. I did not know what happened to my wallet. I retraced my steps half the night looking for my wallet, searching on the ground, the other stores I went to that night, all throughout my car. I knew it was lost for sure. The next day I get a call from Drew the manager and says, I saw who took your wallet. He's on camera coming up behind you, snatching it off the counter as you exited the store and putting it in his pocket. The Guy who took it is a regular customer. When he comes again, I'll get your wallet for you. Sure enough, the guy came in, had my wallet on him. All the ID was in there and the few dollars were gone, but I was just glad to get my ID and credit cards back. Drew saved my bacon! Drew is a Great GUY who cares about what happens to people in the store. I owe him a debt of gratitude for saving me a lot of pain and hardship of canceling cards, and obtaining a new driver license and more. Drew is the Man! read more

"I ain't hear fo no gas, I wants me some fried gizzards, catfish, and golden chicken." Yup, I be ghetto like that, man. Picked up a small bag of: Catfish: 3 stars. I favor a different breading/batter than what they have, it's gotta be cornmeal crunchy crust with tender, juicy fish fillet. It's ai-ght, tho. Gizzards: Possibly the hardest thing to get right is producing tender gizzards that aren't too chewy but yet still holds the outside crunch. They're halfway there. Needs to be soaked longer in milk and vinegar to break down that more! Borderline between rubbery and tender. 3 stars, acceptable. Chimichangas: It's a FRIED burrito, and oh yeah I love chimichangas more than anything. I ended up with the bean and beef one but I prefer beef and cheese filling and a crunchier outside crust. This treat takes me back to my middle school days where they would serve that "taco roll" in the cafeteria! Chicken: I wish the skin was crispier and the meat more moist. Disappointment city, 2 bites and rest went in the trash. Back in the day, I used to travel all over the Midwest to visit hundreds of facilities in rural areas, and finding a "Chester Fried"[1] en route always made my day. Found this place through a food blogger as I'm a big fan of fried gizzards. We ordered the garlic chicken wings, fried gizzards and the sausage on a stick. Chicken wings were just ok and couldn't taste the garlic flavor at all. The fried gizzards was mixed with fried chicken hearts so that was a little misleading. The Shell on Beacon Ave S is really such a great find. Having to be in SODO in the early morning hours, we often have difficulty with gas stations and convenience stores in the area. They close and lock up when it states they are open 24 hours. Discovered this shell location one night and my son and I are so pleased. They are always opened! They have hot food all through out the night and morning! read more

He always goes out of his way to solve any issues you may have and always conducts himself in a positive and professional manner. Reviewing Cust. Service and their Car Wash. Aug. 1st. I bought a carwash but the Clerk did not tell me that it was broken. I waited a few mins in line. The car before me was not moving. I had to knock on this car's window to ask him if he will be going in the Wash. He said a lady is trying to fix the Wash. I tell the car behind me that the Wash was broken. I was trapped and could not drive off. So I waited another 15 mins for two staffers to work on the codes. Finally the woman said to me that the Machine is broken. So I park my car and tried to get a refund on my Credit card. She could not figure out the register to give me a credit back. She stated because the Wash was broken all credit card refunds were locked up. She walks off to help another cust buying food. I then ask for a cash refund. The cook came to the Register and finally gave me a Cash refund. A Mgr finally came out to help train her on the Car Wash refund issue. She really should of called him for help in the first place instead of just walking away. She wanted me to keep the receipt with the code and come back. I did not tell her that my Celica is only insured for another few more days. I got it running to show it to try to sell it. It was sitting for many months and was very dirty. I live in an Apt so I would needto buy I did not want to have to get into my story where she probably would not want to hear. After I walked back to my car by the Car Wash, I hear the machine going. So I peaked and it was. At that point I decided not to waste my time going back into the store to buy another wash. I will probably take it somewhere else. read more

I have been a sales rep for a beer & wine distributor in Seattle for the convenience store channel for close to 2 years now, and have been lucky enough to be able to service and provide for Drew's store as one of my accounts. Selling products to gas stations/small convenience stores can be tricky and most owners/managers, more often than not, are not very kind and extremely disoriented when it comes to running a business. However, Drew has made it possible for me to enjoy going into his store due to his level of attentiveness, organization, and overall business mentality he has. From what I have witnessed while servicing this account, Drew is able to create a positive and inclusive environment, for not only his employees, but his vendors and all customers that walk through the door, that helps shape his success. He is a very caring human that provides help for people that need it and appreciates overall conversation. CAR WASH only. food is great!... I ran my car through your car wash and never again. I have several scratches going just below the clear coat on the hood and roof of my car. Going in all directions.. I take care of my car and know every inch of it. After running it through your wash just today, I went to wipe it down and fund scratches all over. You have something ruining cars left and right with your top brush roller as the scratches are only on the hood and and roof.. Pleas take note guys.. looking at hundreds to have these taken care of. This place was a big divergence from its online reviews. I came to try the fish and vacuum and wash my car. The fish looked really not good and I wouldn't eat it. The car wash didn't work when I first went to use it. Same with the first car vacuum. Didn't work and I had to use the other. No real alternatives for car washes in the neighborhood so I they have a captive market. read more

I've been hearing about this place and it's catfish for a few months now so I decided to take a road trip from Tacoma to Seattle because I just love catfish and there's no good catfish or decent fish joints around the Tacoma area that I have experienced. So Seattle here I come! I was aware that it was a gas station and that didn't deter me. The reviews were raving for the most part. I got there and noticed the fish I just drove 40 something minutes for. I must say from the looks of it I wasn't even impressed but sometimes looks can be deceiving. Got 2lbs which totaled 4 pieces. @ $8.99 a lb Some tartar sauce and hot sauce @ .50 each. Okay ¿! Let me stand in this parking lot at the janky looking gas station in Seattle at 10 p.m. and try out this fish I've been hearing soooo much about. A little bit dry, okay! Semi chewy , right on! It's a little bit late after 10 at night. Maybe I should have traveled up here in the afternoon some time. Because let me tell you I wasn't impressed. And I wanted to be. Really I did. I don't consider myself a cook but I can fry some catfish. My dad can burn. My grandma, aunts , uncles and several family members would put this fish to shame. They'd also bag on me for eating said fish. I'll tell you how I really know I didn't enjoy it (I didn't even eat it all). I put 2 pieces in the fridge seeing if anyone else will like it. At best... from my experience this is some decent catfish on a good drunk night after the bar has closed and it was on the way home or wherever you're heading. Because you got burnt out on jack in the box greasy a$$ tacos. I'll try them again tbh in the decent hour where hopefully it'll be fresh and hopefully delicious. I don't come here for the gas, I come here for the catfish. I live in Portland, but come up to seattle 3-4 times a year, pass right by their place, and the gas was a dime cheaper than shell stations closer to capitol hill. I love the catfish--thin fillets about 9 inches long, crispy on the edges, with some pepper and grease--bought two fillets for the drive home (& filled my tank.) another customer came in wanting wings. the worker asked "how many do you want?' customer replied "How many you got?" wider array of hot foods than most gas station convenience stores, the usual array of beverages and packaged snacks. read more

I have been coming here for 16 years... Not for gas but for their food!! My go to is the BBQ burrito, that's my all time favorite and you've got to try it. But, they've got a great assortment to choose from so work your way thru everything, you won't be disappointed. Trust me on this!! I use to look forward to running out of gas so I could come here!! Gizzards are also very delicious, pizza sticks, corn dogs, fried chicken, drum sticks, and jo jo potatoes!! Ask for their hot sauce as well, sometimes it's tucked back in the corner. I'm a Latino Guy who has lived 16 years so far in this neighborhood,and more than 10 years visiting Beacon Hill Shell station, Drew and his personnel are so awesome; thank God I learned English so I can narrate how blessed I am by living in this community. I remember this day when I came with my kids to the store on my daughters birthday, Drew brought this little surprise and gave my kids free Candies,my kids don't forget that. Also at the end of 2010 I lost my job and came to see drew, I mentioned to him that we were struggling getting food with our newborn babygirl, He got behind the counter and packed these bags full of fried chicken and catfish (which is the best in the area) and handed it to me so I could bring home something to eat, Not mentioning all the employees have assisted me in any need I had in the past. Oh man. This place has the best fried catfish.no sauce needed. They also have jojos but they are straight up half a potato and delicious. Would I recommend this place? The question is why wouldn't I, to which there is no answer. And they are open 24 hours, which for us tow truck drivers is always a hit. Come in at midnight and there is fresh coffee in the pot. Love it. I will definitely be back again and again. There must be a reason the place is packed at 12AM and it shows once inside. Quite reasonably priced too. You can get yourself a good meal for less than $5 which in Seattle is saying a lot. Keep up the good work guys. read more

Feeling frumpy - These guys will make you feel like a Mila Kunis, just for walking in! Hungry - I can't decide if the catfish, fried chicken, poppers, taquitos, burritos, gizzards, or spicy chicken bites are better. Just get one of each! Other than the wickedly good fried food choices above, they even carry protein bars, which is random, but cool. They don't charge you extra for the ol' debit card thing. They know you'll be back: why charge you for your visit unnecessarily? There's a car wash too; although I haven't tried it myself. I only wash my car when a true bipartisan vote happens in the US. The manager here is absolutely above and beyond - when our credit card was stolen we called to inquire about potential footage of the person who charged our account and Drew emailed us video and photos. right away helping us identify the person. He has been the manager here for over 15 years and we have lived in the neighborhood for over 4 years, so grateful to have this Shell and Drew as its manager! read more

The gas here is as cheap as anywhere in the city, but what sets this Shell apart from other stations is that I can indulge here in a decadent new-found pleasure: chicken gizzards! It's become a ritual of late that on the way back to Portland (and if work would cooperate, I might actually be able to get back to Portland), I gas up here and grab a bag of those chewy, addictive gizzards. I eat 'em plain because the peppery seasoning is perfect and needs nothing else. And what also makes this gas station deli distinctive is that the contents of the hot display case, including, but not limited to gizzards, catfish and shrimp, are battered and fried right there on the premises, in batches throughout the day. You might come for the gas but the stars are in the store. Don't judge a book by its cover. This shell station might be in a part of town you don't frequent but it should be on your morning walk/commute if you are in the area. The coffee in the morning is Boyd's (the best coffee roaster on the West Coast IMO). They have two types of Boyd's roasts. The catfish is golden, flakey, delicious and amazing. I live on the eastside now, but after living almost 20 years in seattle, places like this neighborhood station make me wish I was still a Seattlite. Reading the reviews about all of the delicious food options from garlic fried chicken, fried catfish, to as we say in the south gizzadz (yes no R)(and yes I put a southern seal of approval). By golly, their all absolutely right. But that's not the reason I am typing today. I am typing because of the AMAZING first class service provided by Drew. After driving 30 mins from Tacoma, and 45 mins back too. I received a call from my gym as soon as I pulled into my garage.. saying a guy named Drew from Shell found my wallet. Upon calling Shell and verifying, Drew did something in a world we all need, he put someone else first. Knowing without a license the risk of driving he came all the way to Tacoma to deliver my wallet! I say all this to say as you read other reviews you'll notice a lot of references about that shell becoming apart of there family. And when it does become apart of your family you write worthy 5 star reviews. Thank you Drew, who did WAY more than required. And best part yet, asked nothing in return. Shell you had my business, have my business, and will always have my business. I recommend that anyone who reads this review prepare to add a new addition to the family with this Seattle secret. I'm basing this review on the food. I always thought their food was delicious here. Over the top. Until recently, I came again, and was very disappointed. I had a burrito, and it was just too oily and crispy. The burrito, was beans and rice I think. It was mushy, lacked flavor, and was not appetizing. Their fried chicken, was tasty. It was good, but lacked in some flavor. It was a heck of a lot better than their burrito. I liked this place b/c they have a wide selection of food, and it's fresh quality. Very friendly people here. Unfortunately, I've had better "corner-store" food at other places. Aside from their food, their car was isn't bad. I like the drive-thru's better than the sit and wait for it to wash you. This location for gas isn't bad. Can sometimes be bad for traffic-wise. But otherwise, the prices are typical gas. read more

I would stop by this place for gas late at night, and saw that they had a whole section of fried foods. I just assumed it was just typical gas station food. Until I heard about the catfish. Theres a good variety of options to choose from. Ranging from Hot-links, chicken wings, and other fried goodies. The catfish is the center of attention for me. 1 pound for 8 dollars is a steal. The breading isn't too great, which is to expected. But I've recently grown to love the flakiness and flavor of catfish. I usually order a half pound of catfish and a side of tarter. Tarter is a must if you're having catfish anywhere. Runs me about 4 dollars. I always make sure to get the tarter in the round package rather than the low quality Kraft brand one thats comes in a square package. Once I order, I get in my car, drive away munching at the catfish, ignoring the breading and just concentrating on the delicious flaky meat at the center. read more

Best gas station/convenience store ever. Been coming here for over 10 years. However I had a recent experience with the manager, Drew, that was so exemplary that I had to write a review. My car broke down in their lot, and it was bad. My lower strut mount and sway bar broke making my car immobile. I took off my tire to check the damage, it was worse than expected. It left me struggling for 15+ hours trying to get the car jacked up in a way the wheel could be put back on. The only way I could get it towed. By then they could have easily towed and impounded my car, but after talking with Drew he was very understanding, was insanely respectful, and went above and beyond what any other place would have done. He allowed me the time to get the wheel back on and was extremely patient when multiple tow truck drivers showed up with the wrong equipment to tow it. Even went out of his way to bring me some cold water and hot food while I was working. I owe him a huge apology. I'm very grateful for his compassion and understanding. That being said PLEASE DONT BREAK DOWN HERE or camp out in the lot, the staff is awesome and I don't want to cause more problems than I already have. This will ALWAYS be my first stop for gas and their delicious hot food. Over 10 years ago my brother showed me their fried catfish (mind you one of the only places around you can get it), it's has been amazing everytime I have gotten it in the last 10+ years. I would also recommend the chicken skewers and wings, they are amazing. Even better considering the fact they have hot food 24/7, along with fresh batches in the middle of the night. No place else has that. So stop eating yesterdays old stale food at other gas station, and stop in here for amazing hot food 24/7, the best drink/snack selection around, low prices on gas, Great staff, and the best manager around.
