I have driven on Los Alamitos blvd probably over a thousand times and I'm sure I've seen Shenandoah at least a hundred times, but the outside is so unassuming of how this place is like. So I guess you can say, I judged the book by its cover. Being that this Sunday is Father's Day, but today June 16, 2026 is the only day that the whole family can be together, we did an early celebration of Father's Day here at Shenandoah at the Arbor. We had reservations but they were not crowded in any means. Chelsea our server was such a sweetheart. As we looked over the menu, we were served our Apple fritters and got our drinks. Chelsea got our entree orders and with precise timing, our salads came out. The salad was very refreshing with their homemade chipotle ranch. Since they do not serve regular ranch I stayed with the dressing snd it had a mild kick which I enjoyed. I originally wanted either the granny's fried chicken or Country fried pork chop or the country fried steak, but they had a special menu with a Pichaña Roast which I was going to change my original plan, however they ran out, so I went back to one of the original ideas. So collaboratively my two boys and I each ordered one of the fried items so we can each give the other a portion to sample. My wife and daughter both ordered steaks. As the food were served, we all shared a bite for everyone to try each entree. My wife's ribeye was delicious. She ordered it medium, but it came out medium rare which she doesn't mind and it was super tender. My daughter's New York strip was tough even though she ordered it medium rare, the cut was just not as tender. The country fried steak was thin, but it was tender, however not crispy. The fried chicken was a nice sized portion, fairly moist and the pork chop was just very dry. The food tasted good, the portions were great, the service was excellent. I'm not sure how long they are serving the Pichaña for, but I would definitely like to go back to try that. read more

It has been years since I've been here. We selected this restaurant because of it's location and vibe. Weather permitting, i love to sit outside. I told my friends it is a ladies who lunch place and yes, there were a lot of ladies there. The service is always solid as is the food. When my friends asked me what was good, I responded I didn't recall what I ordered last time but boy I do remember those apple fritters were good. I really liked the torta sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato turkey, and their coleslaw was very well-made, brioche, brioche is to die for No matter where you are, my friend ordered the torta sandwich with the Cajun fries. The fries were really well done which I like. The cob salad was enjoyable with turkey strips and a little bit too much blue cheese, but also enjoyable. First time here. It's very quaint and seems like it's popular to the locals. The apple fritters they give to start are yummy. The mushroom appetizer we had was delicious. These starters came out pretty quick but we had to wait quite a while for our beef dip sandwich and a fried chicken salad. The beef dip seemed overcooked and my salad was very simple. As for the food, we started with a couple of appetizers: * Brussels Sprouts ($14) - easily the standout dish of the meal. Cooked perfectly with great flavor. * Fried Green Tomatoes ($4) - simple but very good, a nice starter. For my entrée, I had the: * Chicken Salad Sandwich ($18) - good, solid sandwich. Not anything that blew me away, but definitely enjoyable. This update focuses on service. A note to patrons: Avoid being seated behind the wine cabinet because service is subpar in that small area. The server with the basket of fritters and yeast rolls skipped us entirely three times. We had to mention this to our server who also took a long while to greet us. We had so much time before seeing him that we were ready for our entree order when he just meant to take our drink order. By the time the lady with the fritters came by, our soup was delivered, so we couldn't enjoy the fritters how they are intended. When she came by a second time with her basket to the round table immediately next to us, she walked away, not even looking at us. I immediately made a comment to my BF about that, and she abruptly turned around and served us. He After the meal, we then waited for several minutes for our credit card to be run. The busser came by to clear the plates because it was obvious we had finished our meal. We asked him to take the bill for us because our server was nowhere to be found. We then waited another 15 minutes to sign for the meal. We eventually got up; I waited outside while my BF had to force our money onto the restaurant. With the manager's (blue shirt) attention finally, he told me that he had to point to the bill presenter and state that it had been sitting next to the register for the better part of 20 minutes. The manager never apologized for out wait, nor did he explain why the long wait occurred in the first place. It's common knowledge and courtesy to do the former. An otherwise special birthday with delicious food in a charming setting was downgraded from a 4 plus experience to a zero (unfortunately, a zero-star rating is not possible here). Do not sit behind that wine cabinet; it's claustrophobic, AND you go unnoticed.This establishment should strongly consider eliminating that table altogether. read more

I also recommend coming in the evening and sitting under the lights! Service was excellent and our server waiting while our party arrived, we all came separately. She was very patient with us. Family wanted to really take us here, so did, barely made it before they closed for the afternoon, so it wasn't busy at all but a good amount of people, all sitting outside. We were the only ones sitting inside because we had our with us. So of course service was on top of everything, the aesthetic of the restaurant I'm sure is what interests the most. I got the pull pork sandwich, we also got the tuna melt and some shrimp. Mostly because of the selection, nothing in particular caught our eye. The pull pork was better than I thought but not the best I've had. Tried the tuna melt, which was decent and the shrimp was as expected. It's definitely a nice spot, for romantic night or a relaxing brunch. So the review is more for the feel of the restaurant rather than the food. I had wanted to try this place for quite some time. It was everything I hoped it would be. It looks charming from the front, in an old house with a cute garden arch sign. When we walked in, we saw how charming the dining room is, with beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, and checked curtains. But we wanted to sit in the patio, which was the draw for me. The patio is lovely with large shade trees and lots of plants. There is a little pond with large goldfish and little statues around it. There are quite a few tables with umbrellas. Out server was very sweet and helpful. She brought a basket of apple fritters--yes, every table starts with complimentary apple fritters with butter--and then have us time to look at the menu. We ended up ordering the chicken and andouille sausage Gumbo and the pork loin with peaches, blackberries, and almonds. Both were fantastic, as were the delicious apple fritters. This review is way overdue, but the experience was significant enough that I needed to share it. After years of living nearby and regularly visiting Shenandoah-even after past issues-I hoped things had improved. They haven't. This past Christmas Eve, despite confirmed reservations and my husband personally verifying them midday, we were denied seating. The staff blamed the weather and falsely claimed they had called us. My husband had actually gone in person earlier that day to confirm. We were left without a table and with my 93‑year‑old mother on a holiday night. Thankfully, Fish Company down the road stepped up with excellent food, warm service, and a festive atmosphere. They've earned our holiday business from now on. We haven't returned to Shenandoah and don't plan to. When asked recently to meet there, my answer was an immediate no. Plenty of restaurants in the area appreciate their customers. Such a gorgeous brunch spot! We came here on a Sunday morning. The setting is quite idyllic with a Koi Pond, flowers, and a grand patio under Mulberry Trees. I rarely ever want to eat a meal outside, but this was a nice exception! Totally recommend it! There's free parking out in front and in the small lot in the back off of Sausalito St. If you are in the back as a driver, go slowly and watch for pedestrians, or, if you're a pedestrian, remember that you're stepping into traffic when you walk out of the gate! We entered from the parking lot into the oasis of the Arbor. There's a Koi Pond surrounded by the lushness of the plants. We made our way inside to get a table. They were just opening, so we were able to be seated right away without a reservation. The patio is pretty much shaded by the large trees and lots of umbrellas. It was a relatively cool morning, so we didn't experience much heat. One drawback of sitting on the patio is the odor from a skunk or two, which we noticed intermittently. Our server came to get our drink order, we just wanted water. The restaurant starts you off with some hot Apple Fritters with butter. They are absolutely fantastic and a tasty way to begin the meal. We then ordered the Texas Trio. I enjoyed all three items, the Cabo Shrimp, Fried Green Tomatoes, and the Crab Cake. Our server brought out complimentary rolls with butter. She suggested using them to sop up the sauces on the appetizer plate. Yum! We were asked if we wanted more fritters when our server noticed we ate all of ours. We'll definitely take her up on the offer next time! I chose the Pistachio Crusted Fresh Fish (Chilean Sea Bass) and hubby got the Seafood Gumbo. Both dishes were superb! The flavors were so good! I think we both liked the Seafood Gumbo the most. The only minor critique I have is that I wish there had been a little more okra in it - we only got two sliced pieces. My husband grew up in the South, his Mama made Seafood Gumbo often, and this was quite similar! For dessert, we opted for the Texas Peaches. The peaches are flambéed prior to being brought out. At the table, the cup with peaches and fruits are poured over three scoops of ice cream. It was a luscious way to end the meal. We're looking forward to coming back for dinner! We come here for special occasions or regular occasions and we get take out of we don't feel like going out. Last Friday (7/31) was one of those take out nights. I walked in to get our dinner when I noticed my parents sitting outside where it is so beautiful for their anniversary dinner. I wanted to buy their dinner but they had just sat down and hadn't even ordered yet. Everyone on staff is always wonderful so this is no surprise, BUT, Dan was working that night and he is amazing! There's a small parking lot behind the restaurant, which was helpful. The patio was pretty busy, so we chose to sit inside. It was quiet, with only one other group, which made it feel kind of cozy and intimate. Our server was really nice and friendly, which added to the good vibe. They brought out hot apple fritters with butter to start, and they were delicious. I ordered a cheeseburger wrapped in lettuce, and my friend had the fried chicken. Both meals hit the spot. Beautiful open airy restaurant with an extensive menu. Fresh delicious meal of large proportion. We had a small group that sat on the patio which had tables spaced out perfect on a shaded day. Excellent attentive service from wait staff willing to help with suggestions. Allowed us to store a cake we brought in while we ate and had 0 issues slicing it for us.
