Came into the Eldo because I found out from a friend that they do half off wine bottles on Wednesdays! The bar was moderately busy but with the fast service you wouldn't be able to tell! My friend got a cocktail and she was obsessed! The bartender's drinks are delicious and made it to the table so fast! Our server was Emily and she gave the greatest service! She was very prompt in greeting us and taking our orders, and always checking in to make sure we were good! To top it off she was so kind and never made us feel rushed and made us feel at home. So happy we got a spot in the bar! The food was also delish! We started with the French onion soup which she recommend then got the ribeye which was amazing and cooked to perfection! The Eldo will always be an epic local go-to and a must-visit for anyone who's never been. They have a great drink menu, and the vibe is dimly lit with a cozy atmosphere, but still very family-friendly. I personally love their Beef Wellington, pork chops, and their zucchini (which is amazing), along with their ranch... honestly, all of their sauces are so good. The only bummer is they used to have the most amazing chicken strips--my friends and I would literally drive miles just for them--but the new ownership changed them. :( The service can typically be a little slow, probably because they're almost always busy, and they could definitely use more parking. That said, I still love this place, and it never fails that I run into old friends every time I'm there. :) read more

My family and I went to THE ELDO to celebrate my son's 55th birthday last night. We were expecting great Rib Eye's and a great dining experience based on our past visits. This time however begining with the glasses of water that were promptly brought out. Our first reaction, all 6 of us was abject disgust at the taste of the iced water. It had an ultra strong moldy taste and odor and awful aftertaste like used dishwater or that it had been filtered through old, crusty, dirty filthy gym socks. The entire water service, all 6 glasses was unbelievably nauseously stale. No amount of lemon could eradicate the smell and taste of sewer water? We asked for bottled water but we were informed that there wasn't any available. I also ordered iced tea with the thought that the tea would be made with the same disgusting Pliny Beach tap water. I'm a Vietnam veteran and i have experienced some really awful water before but this was absolutely the worst I've ever tasted. GROSS! It was enough to gag a maggot. I might suggest either install a reverse osmosis filter or if there is one already, thoroughly replace the filter and clean the algae and mold out of it with bleach. The awful water put a bit of a damper on the rest of the meal. I had asked for a baked potato with the toppings be served on the side along with some Worcestershire sauce for the potato. It took three (3) requests over fifteen minutes to finally have a container of Worcestershire sauce brought to the table. By the time I was able to prepare the potato, the broccoli and carrot side had gone cold. The steaks were acceptable but not of the same quality as we all remembered from past ELDO visits. We had an appetizer of fried zucchini and two big Pretzles which were served hot fresh and tasty. My main issue was quality of the water. GAWDAWFUL does not EVEN begin to describe that HORRIBLE experience. read more

Okay long overdue review. We went here for Valentine's dinner. Originally we had their signature steak in kind. But we saw the pasta menu, and quickly changed our minds. It did not disappoint! I got the creamy chicken pesto and he got the short rib gnocchi. Both were absolutely delicious. It's quite a popular local spot. First time visiting to celebrate a birthday, and the restaurant was much bigger than I expected. Parking is pretty limited -- your options are either the small lot, a darker area behind the building, or nearby residential streets. The portions are HUGE! We ordered appetizers, and about 10 minutes later our entrees came out too, which felt a bit rushed. There was so much food that we couldn't even finish half of it. I ordered the salmon pesto and absolutely loved it -- tons of flavor and really delicious. For dessert, we had the butter cake, and it was amazing. Overall, I'd recommend giving this place a try. I passed this place for years. Finally tried this place out with reservations. This place gets really packed. Parking can be difficult to find, pending on the hours you arrive. Parking is tight, meaning if you have a large truck it can pose a problem to fit in the tight spaces that are provided. Checked in with the front host. Wait time was 15 minutes. We were greeted and seated at our tables. The ambiance was very nice. Since this is a South Africa establishment, you had some type of sense you were in the Saraha. Ordered drinks of Beer and cocktails. Delivered to us in 5 minutes. Prompt service! Ordered Beef Straganov and Beef Pot Pie. Entrees did not dissapoint! All was fresh and delicous. The portion size were very large! You get what you pay for at this restaurant! Big Kudos to Aiden! He was a fantastic server. Great customer service. He always checked up on us. Haven't been here in person for a couple years so me and my husband decided to come visit on Valentine's Day! And it didn't disappoint. I've always wanted to try the pretzel with beer cheese and it tasted so fresh. We also had fried zucchini also delicious. My husband always enjoys the steak here and I like to order the salmon plate. Both dishes came out great and as a special treat we had the butter cake a must try if you visit. Service was good and heaters were outside so you didn't feel the cold outside air until you left. Not sure what has happened here but the ribeye I had Friday night was definitely NOT the quality I'm used to from The Eldo. I've had the ribeye several other times here over the past few years and it was amazing. However, my steak on Friday (my birthday) was inedible. Tough and gristly. I tried it in several spots but it was the same. I finally told the waitress that it was not at all what I expected. She suggested that I try a new one. Which I did. The 2nd one was MUCH better, but STILL not like the ones I've had in the past. At least I was able to chew it, but there were still a lot of gristly parts. I'm the gal that LOVES the fat, so it's not uncommon to see me gobble up the entire ribeye and leave nothing. I did leave several pieces on the plate. I tried but had to spit out several. I'm highly disappointed. We go to the Eldo quite often, as we live very close by, but usually for happy hour/appetizers. I'll still go for that but I'm thinking next time I want a ribeye for my birthday, I'll head down to the 555. read more

There were about 9 of us for a Birthday dinner; the servers were on top of the service and making sure our orders were in. The only thing that I did not like is that I could not do a substitution for the peas that came on the side of the shepherd's pie. I would give the shepherd's pie a (8/10) . It was very tasty. For my drink I ordered a French 57, which tasted somewhat like skittles, and I loved it. The Eldo is a bar/pub with South African flavors and it's located off Studebaker and Spring in Long Beach, across the street from El Dorado Park. I came for happy hour on a weekday and they offered $2 off appetizers. I got sliders, veggie samosas, and a side of fries. I feel that the sliders tasted great. The buns were light and nicely buttered, they came with a "pink sauce", and the beef and caramelized onions nicely rounded out the burger. The samosas were my favorite item of the meal. It packed flavors that you don't normally get in an Indian-style samosa. Maybe because they serve the samosas with sweet chili sauce rather than chutneys; however, I would order it again. As for the fries, I felt that they were crispy; however, I felt as if it had an aftertaste that I didn't enjoy. If I get fried dishes, then I'd probably go with onion rings; however, I think that I'd like to try more of their South African offerings as they're unique! read more

Had my first visit with my mother the evening of Thursday the 5th of March 2026 for evening rations. This establishment has a South African theme and I saw both the USA and South African flags flown outside. This establishment is only open for evening rations and was very busy when I arrived and there was a wait for a table. We were called and seated. The waitress pointed us to a QR Code and I told her neither of us do QR codes so she brought us a tablet that had the menu. This establishment does NOT have paper menus. Apparently this establishment wants people to go digital which I GREATLY resent as I am an analogue guy and I do not want to go digital!!!!! This is the one and only reason why I am giving such a low grade. Men's washroom was clean and had paper towels available... good. I ordered the cheeseburger and shake combo deal. The burger was quite good as were the French Fries and the chocolate shake was excellent. My mother ordered the lamb and was very satisfied though she took most of it home. Normally I would automatically give the lowest score possible if a sit down restaurant lacks a written paper or laminated menu or if an establishment forces me to use a kiosk to place an order. However I requested a sample of Biltong and the waitress honoured that request. For this reason I am adding an additional point for a total of two points instead of the one point that I would have otherwise awarded. If a letter grade was assigned as is done in school, this establishment would get a D. NOTE: If this establishment had a paper or laminated menu available, I would have awarded four out of five possible points which would have equated to a letter grade of B. The reason I would not have given a perfect score is because I noticed that some of the guys who work at this establishment wore their shirts untucked which I consider to be highly unprofessional. read more

Stopped by to try this out after golf. We came around 5pm on a Sunday and the wait was about 45 minutes. It didn't seem packed due to seeing a good amount of empty tables but we didn't question it and waited. We got seated outside where they're were only about 4 heater lamps. Definitely not enough to cover all tables, or the one we sat in. The South African food was delicious, however anything that was considered bar/pub food was mediocre. I enjoyed the lamb samosas, and prawn curry the most. We also tried the fries which was a pretty small basket for what it cost, and the steak nachos. The cheese was a weird light orange color, not sure what it was made of. My biggest critique would be the service. When my friend asked for steak sauce and a box to go, multiple servers forgot and ended up giving us other peoples items. Our main server was apologetic on their behalf, but it seemed like the restaurant was low on staff. I made a reservation for a party of 10 the day before and was accommodated with the stipulation that everyone ordered entrees per the manager. I'm not sure how they would dictate that as it wasn't stated again upon being seated; but it was not an issue. The waitress was on her JOB and managed our party well. Everyone enjoyed their food except my friend that ordered the filet, she wanted MedWell; but got MedRare...they re-did the whole meal. Such a delightful business. Plenty of parking out front, unless it is during the dinner rush hour or a big game is on TV. We were greeted by friendly staff at the front and caught a drink at the fully stocked bar. By the way, they have a great whisky and craft beer section. We got a variety of different main dishes and shared. Waite staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We finished with ice cream for dessert (They are connected to the ice cream shop next door). Brought our friend who is from South Africa here hoping that she would get a little taste of home. She is from Durban, and we saw that this restaurant had Durban Lamb Curry. The ambiance was nice, and the restaurant was busy, so we knew the food must be pretty good. Our party got the ribeye, surf and turf (ribeye with shrimp), Sheppards pie, and the lamb curry. Our friend LOVED the curry and said it reminded her of home. The pie was also good, and my surf and turf (ribeye cooked medium) was cooked perfect. Locals definitely know about this - reservations are a must or you won't get in at meal time!! inside bar area, a little noisy large outside area- cozy, but nice restaurant vibe. The food is amazing ! Family, friendly kid portions are absolutely huge. Adult portions you're guaranteed to take home leftovers unless you're hungry. All the desserts we tried were amazing. The restaurant is connected to an ice cream stop next-door Scoops. Lots of wonderful flavors to choose from for all the desserts as they go next-door for the ice cream and their dessert items. The service was very attentive and fabulous! We highly recommend the Shepherd pie, the fish and chips and the beef Wellington! The parking lot is small and tight. You can tell locals are welcome as there is bicycle parking. What would make this perfect for me is if they had at least one ice cream item that was lactose free! Although we live close, this would be a restaurant we would definitely go to even if it was an hour away. Was gifted a gift card and could say this spot was worth the drop in. The wife had the tavern burger, the fries were a double fried fry nice and crispy and great ranch. The burger itself was good a nice double patty burger. I myself had the chicken pasta, nice cream sauce with a pesto sprinkled throughout. The server was great attentive and helped speed up our food order for our little one. The outdoor covered patios nice on a sunny day and worth sitting outside. Had a whiskey sour from the bar and was happily surprised when the server asked if i wanted it prepared with egg whites. Which is something to go above and beyond Only thing that held this place back from 5 stars was the host staff. My family moved to the area a year ago and I feel like we're regulars. We dine here perhaps once every other month, if not more so. We've been here enough to know they don't have apple juice, the kids burger doesn't come with cheese, rainbow grilled cheese is solid, the hubby gets the LBC IPA. This was our go-to spot for easy local dinner with good food and atmosphere for our two preschoolers. But after a recent outting, I'm not so sure it will be on our rotation. My family and I were dining with the in-laws who were in town. We were seated by two moms with 5 young children who were unruly. They played under the table, they ran around the patio area and bumped into the MIL chair a few times. This was ... not normal behavior a dining environment. We were not a Chuck E. Cheese or Dave and Busters. We were at the Eldo, which is very family friendly, but again, it's not Chuck E Cheese. The staff or the manager did not seem to care or mind the chaos that was happening. The in-laws were biting their tongue and tolerant of the situation until one of the kids tried to grab the fire distinguished off the wall. That was when shit it the fan. The FIL got up to stop the child from grabbing the fire extinguisher. There were some heated words exchanged and that party left. Afterwards, the manager sort of victim shamed us, saying we should've asked to be moved to another table instead of letting things get to that point. I don't think things were handled properly and it has left a bad taste in my mouth. Needless to say, we have not been back since. read more

Bit of backstory (per usual): I disc golfed for YEARS at El Dorado Park, and this spot is always in the line of sight walking to hole 3. I sit at the bar, as I'm by myself most of the time (dating is trash lol). I'm probably butchering the spelling, but I used to come for Anastasia. I think I've put this in most of my reviews, but guest connection is imperative to me because going out is still an experience. It still costs money. But man, miss her working there, but the other servers/bartenders are all incredible! Service: It was a busy night because of the Lakers game. The bartender was busy, but as soon as I sat down, she said she'd be right with me. Acknowledged me immediately; her awareness was comparable to Spider-Man. I don't even think I was completely sitting now that I think about it. I got there, started to pull the chair out, and THEN she said that. As the youths say, she was "quick with it." My Buffalo Trace neat arrived promptly. And I was talked into a Ribeye. I love meat. Pause. Food: My ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. I'm a fast eater. I feel that most guys just demolish meals with no remorse for the time it took to cook it. Ha ha. But I took my TIME eating it. It was phenomenal. As you can see in the picture, I took a few bites before remembering I wanted to review it. I was salivating more than Pavlov's dogs.
