Tucked at the south end of Plymouth, this can be a great home base for a weekend of wine tasting in the area. I stayed here years ago just as they had begun to remodel the rooms. Enjoyed it then, still like them. We recently used a double queen. We had plenty of space. The room was clean with simple decor. Beds comfy with crisp linens. The fridge had a couple of waters and peppermint patties. Wine glasses and a corkscrew were also in the room. The bathroom was equally clean with plenty of towels. The hotel even provides shampoo, soap, toothpaste, razor and shaving cream. Behind the office is a great small pool area with hot tub. Large towels are provided at the pool. Management does ask to be out of the pool area by 10 am, there are several rooms that look onto the pool. A light continental breakfast is served in the lobby starting at 7 am. Plenty of parking. If you are wine tasting/ shopping, ask for a ground floor when making your reservation. Never keep wine in your car when the temperature is over 75 degrees, and carrying it up the stairs can be heavy.

I love this wonderful place in Plymouth like an oasis in the desert. Very clean, tidy, picturesque and a great place to stay.

The view was amazing and a total surprise So I'm giving an extra star for that. The view included rolling hills and lots of cows. The room was big. Staff was professional and friendly. They let us check in early. They include a lot of little extras in the room such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shoe polish wipes, cleansing cloths for the face. The room also includes a hairdryer, mini fridge, a full-size ironing board, an iron, corkscrew, two wine glasses. There is also a flatscreen TV with satellite and free Wi-Fi that works pretty well. They were completely dog friendly and only charged $25 for the dog fee but only a few rooms are designated dog friendly, so definitely call ahead to reserve a dog room. Our dog is a pitbull and we often encounter breed discrimination but they were welcoming and loving to her. The stay includes a continental breakfast with a variety of toast options, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs and coffee. Unfortunately the weather was cold so we didn't use the pool. Manager said the pool is unheated and spa is 98 degrees but that he can get it to 104 if we wanted. There is a Mexican restaurant, donut shop and grocery store within walking distance. But you'll have a short drive to the little downtown and to wineries.

A friendly inn with an updated, slightly modern vibe situated in the Shenandoah Valley/Gold Country, minutes away from Amador County wineries and list-topping culinary destination Taste. From the outside it could pass for any generic, small town motel along the highway but inside the rooms are really quite refreshing, spacious (including bathroom), tidy and have a contemporary feel to them. Oh, and most rooms feature a lovely scenic eastern view of the Sierra foothills, you might even spy some cows grazing just out your window as we did...found it strangely relaxing. From booking the room via front office mgr Marie to the housekeeping staff to a chit chat with the owner about cars, they have a hospitable staff eager to make your stay comfortable & enjoyable. The 2 most notable features for the location are it's proximity to nearby wineries and the Restaurant Taste....both experiences are highly recommended! Other highlights... + Excellent value: less than $125 (discounts for multiple night stays) + Lovely back deck w/pool & hot tub + Decent continental breakfast included + Dish TV w/high def + Microwave & refrigerator in room + Next door to a Mexican restaurant + 5 mins to Taste, wineries & Dry Town Bar + Close to other Gold Country destinations: Volcano, Sutter Creek, Black Chasm + Seems to be a popular spot for wedding parties + Free in-room wifi w/ adequate bandwidth

This places it in the rolling, beautiful, peaceful, lovely foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range (gold country). I've stayed at this lovely hotel many times and had dinner at their (also fantastic) sister restaurant, Taste (same block). Rest has a nice happy hour in the lobby area with circular seating and a fire where they serve free (really good) wine for guests, who can socialize and relax before dinner or turning-in. I've met quite a few nice folks there and the majority are touring the 40+ wineries in the area (really nice wineries like Turley, Helwig, Andis, Terra d'Oro, Iron Hub and so many more). They serve many of the wines from the area, which is known for old-vine Zinfandel, Barbera, Rhône varietals (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre) and lots of small, family-owned wineries rather than the big guys in Napa and Sonoma. Different vibe. You can also visit historic Gold Country sites in and around the hotel, which makes for some interesting side trips. It's also just gorgeous to drive around. Lots of farm-to-table restaurants and other attractions. I love this area. This is also HORSE COUNTRY. There are many horse properties, horse trainers, coaches in every discipline, ranches and close-by is the legendary Murieta Equestrian Center if you're interested in competitions and shows (reining, ranch riding, cutting, western pleasure, sorting/penning, versatility, dressage, hunter/jumper, and such). Fabulous venue for horses. All of this glorious activity can be accessed from this beautiful, humble, delightful little boutique hotel.

Our suite (one of five) was absolutely stunning. The Innkeeper (the first of three amazing Innkeepers) had the gas fireplace lit, and wonderful instrumental music playing, as she showed us our suite. The food was phenomenal: gourmet breakfasts, 5:00 wine and cheese, and homemade cookies in the evening. My favorite part was the patio with a fire pit overlooking the vineyard. It is difficult to find such peace and serenity anywhere. Aah... We anticipate return visits

The meals were uber fresh (filling enough that we skipped lunch both days!). Every day around 5 you're treated to wine and cheese. Perfect location to wine taste on property or venture out to the growing number of top rated wineries. Walk amongst the vineyards or take out one the beach cruisers or trikes for a ride around. First, let me say that this is advertised as a bed and breakfast. It passes the test on the breakfast part. It failed on the bed, the room and other things. Second, let me say that my lady and I enjoyed Sandy Sanders, the proprietor. She is a nice person who tries her best. She makes a huge effort to stay out of the way of the lodgers, but is there with the coffee at your room door at 7 am, breakfast at 9 am and snacks and wine at 5 pm. Her cat, Ceecee, travels with her and is very friendly. Now for the downside. There are two rooms of the seven that advertise that they have king size beds. That is partially true. They have king size mattresses and bed springs sitting on top queen size frames. Here is proof from their website showing that this leaves about a foot on either side of the frame for the king mattress to hang over. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/plymouth-house-inn-plymouth?select=gCe49RtJDvu0pM0QN6KMdw#gCe49RtJDvu0pM0QN6KMdw That creates a number of problems. There is a hill in the middle of the bed which pushes you to the edge where because of the slope near the edge, you slide off faster. It makes for a BAD night of sleep. Having king beds on queen frames is just wrong and bad for people like us who paid for a king bed. The leather couch in the Garden Suite is so worn out, the cushions barely support their own weight. One can sink fast when sitting and getting up can require effort. The rear of the property has a nice wooden deck, but the amount of rust, dirt, mold and mildew on the furniture makes it undesirable. French doors from the Garden Suite open out to that area, but it is not an advantage with the outdoor furniture in such sad shape. The photos on the website must have been taken at a much earlier time in the history of the place. It shows a beautifully painted carousel next to the house. What is there now is faded and dirty - kind of scary. The property needs a paint job and there are things that just detract from the property like a rusting tricycle on the deck. The house is full of antiques. That is a nice idea, but taken to the point that the entire house is cluttered with old knicknacks and strange items from the past, does not make it a better place to stay, just a cluttered place to stay. People need places to put their travel belongings when they are travelling. We used the floor and had to move lots of pillows and other clutter to find space above that. This establishment does not earn the cost of the room. You would be better served staying at the Shenandoah Inn (motel), one of the winery B&B or staying in Drytown or Amador City. Having a 5 star review from a person 2 miles away in Fiddletown smells of pimping fake reviews. Yelp only works when reviewers actually stay at a place rather than be buds with the owner.
