This is a really fantastic family owned & operated boutique hotel in Plymouth, CA, which is near Amador City, Carbondale, Ione, Jackson, Sutter Hill, and Fiddletown, perhaps 45 miles from Sacramento and about 25 miles from Placerville. This places it in the rolling, beautiful, peaceful, lovely foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range (gold country). I've stayed at this lovely hotel many times and had dinner at their (also fantastic) sister restaurant, Taste (same block). Rest has a nice happy hour in the lobby area with circular seating and a fire where they serve free (really good) wine for guests, who can socialize and relax before dinner or turning-in. I've met quite a few nice folks there and the majority are touring the 40+ wineries in the area (really nice wineries like Turley, Helwig, Andis, Terra d'Oro, Iron Hub and so many more). They serve many of the wines from the area, which is known for old-vine Zinfandel, Barbera, Rhône varietals (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre) and lots of small, family-owned wineries rather than the big guys in Napa and Sonoma. Different vibe. You can also visit historic Gold Country sites in and around the hotel, which makes for some interesting side trips. It's also just gorgeous to drive around. Lots of farm-to-table restaurants and other attractions. I love this area. This is also HORSE COUNTRY. There are many horse properties, horse trainers, coaches in every discipline, ranches and close-by is the legendary Murieta Equestrian Center if you're interested in competitions and shows (reining, ranch riding, cutting, western pleasure, sorting/penning, versatility, dressage, hunter/jumper, and such). The most important part of this review is to commend the staff for a job above and beyond well done! Easy check in process and they reached out the day before and the day of to see if I needed anything during my stay. They also texted me while i was there to see make sure we were taken care of. Every time I encountered members of the hotel staff they were super friendly and attentive and always helpful. It was my 5 star experience of the stay. Big thanks to all of the staff for your service and hospitality. I'll get to why I only gave 4 stars in a minute. I missed the nightly happy hour- darn it!- but the morning breakfast buffet was super cute and delish. Not your average continental breakfast. They had hot dishes with unique flavors that were tasty. So tasty that as soon as the food was dropped it was gone! Good variety too of pastries, yogurt and cereal. I thought the place was a little pricey but given all the extras like free breakfast, free water and free snacks it was worth every penny. Now this part is not really the fault of the hotel but it was so annoying I have to discuss it. We were in a room on the ground floor- very very clean, good selection of free snacks and comfy bed. All around nice accommodations. BUT directly above us was a family with a gaggle of unruly children. Around 1030 pm I was awakened by what sounded like a carnival going on upstairs. Loud, heavy running, stomping and what sounded like someone falling to the ground like they were on WWE competing for the wrestling championship. It continued until my husband tapped on the ceiling. It stopped for a bit then restarted around midnight again. Omg So if you want to have peace and quiet I suggest you pick an upper floor room. That's my only knock on this place. This little gem is located off the beaten path but at the heart of the Shenandoah valley wine tasting region. It prides itself in top notch service and boy does it deliver. They went out of their way for every request even if not directly asked for, they guessed of what you needed before you even needed to ask. Their buffet breakfast is all freshly cooked and can either be eaten in the main lobby or delivered to your work, both options are very nice. In the evenings they have representatives from different wineries come and get free tastings and you can buy bottles for them if you like. Wow! This is the new go-stay place in Amador County. If you haven't been, Plymouth is a sleepy little town in the heart of Amador County wine country. On Main St (which is only a couple blocks long), this high end establishment is reasonably priced for the quality of the product. It sits amongst a mix of some renovation, some distressed older buildings, as it's downtown area is in transition. This was our 2nd stay here on our frequent trips to Amador and El Dorado. We've stayed in B & Bs, vineyard homes and a chain motel (not recommended). This, by far is the best value/comfort/quality place in town. Rooms are all modern, good size, well appointed...super comfy beds and super clean. Breakfast and a wine happy hour are included...they also serve fresh baked cookies as well as s'mores supplies to enjoy around the gas fire pit. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Make sure to request a room on the upper floors, as the 1st floor rooms are a little dark. Book well in advance as there aren't a lot of rooms and they sell out fast, especially on weekends. read more

This was our first visit. We cannot say enough good things about this stay. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. We were welcomed warmly by Danielle. She made us feel as if we were visiting her own home. When we walked into our room we were greeted by delightful decor and soft music playing. It was obvious that the room was newly decorated. The shower was phenomenal! There were two very comfortable chairs with a table that easily fit my laptop. After an hour of relaxing, we went down to the complimentary wine tasting poured by a very wine knowledgeable wine hostess, and an incredible appetizer pairing that was provided by Taste Restaurant. We met several wonderful people during the reception. What a way to develop a community environment! Because of this wonderful relaxing stay, I actually overslept and called for a late check out. A delightful Alexis informed me that she was able to accommodate my late check out and because I missed the complimentary breakfast, she would put something together for me. When I did check out, she handed me a bag with two homemade chocolate chip muffins for our way home. Thank you, Danielle and Alexis for making our stay a memorable one. We will be back! read more

What a gem! My husband and I stayed at Rest while visitng the Fairplay Wine Festival. The hotel is centrally located, and one can walk to dinner. The common area and rooms are prettier than pictured. The vintage country art/decor and archiitectural articultion with vaulted ceilings and angled corners make it so much more interesting than your typical chain hotel. Our suite was quiet with a beautiful solid door between the sitting area and BR/bath. The incredibly comfortable bed included plenty of plush pillows. The breakfast is above and beyond a standard continental one. The staff is very friendly and accomodating, and there's plenty of parking. Can't ask for anything more than that! read more

January 4, 2018 Rest is a total hit, and if that's enough information for you, you can stop reading now. If you want details, and Rest does pay attention to details, you're encouraged to read further. Imagine, if you will, that you've been coming to the area for something like 20 to 25 years, and you've even stayed nearby occasionally during that period of time, and a new place opens. This new place is under the same management of the best restaurant in the area, Taste, and so you've got some pretty high expectations. We arrived on January 2 for our quick getaway and we had chosen a two-room suite. The room was well appointed, clean, and cozy. Each room had its own temperature control and they responded well when we needed a bit of additional heat. Each room had a TV (which I never figured out how to master and so this was the only glitch that I encountered). The 'living area' featured a nice couch, a sitting area with two chairs and a table, and a little desk area, and beyond that, there was an bar set up that included wine glasses, coffee cups, a brewing machine, and everything you need, but the wine, to have your in-room beverage needs met. I had forgotten that there is a 5pm wine tasting planned with appetizers being sent over from Taste. We ended up tasting four wines, including some that we hadn't even heard of and we had just been to one of the wineries that they poured for us. The appetizers were great, a parmesan crisp with some anchovy and the second one was a stuffed date. I wasn't quite sure about how good they were until I'd had at least four samples of each.... The hotel, on Tuesday evenings, has a special that they run with Taste, essentially you buy a coupon for $60 and it's worth $75 at Taste. As you'd expect, they also made my dinner reservation and the meal was a wonderful part of our experience. My wife had the $22 special (which was a salmon entrée preceded by a wonton style artichoke preparation, and I had the filet served with a Béarnaise sauce and I chose the Beet salad). We had also started our evening with the mushroom cigars (the appetizer that seems to be what they are known for). We wrapped up the dinner with an order of their panna cota and a 20 year old tawny.....Great Dinner! Back to the hotel, a great night of sleep in a comfortable bed (and the details are nearby in case you'd like to buy the bed and the pillows) and then a continental breakfast the next morning that was available from 7 to 10am. I chose the muesli and milk along with a couple of baked items. My wife had her muesli with yogurt. It's important to note that the people working here were all positive, smiling, and helpful. This is a really nice thing, as it seems to be so easy to be negative, sarcastic and annoyed. Another example of how they are working to make your stay at 'Rest' a success. I can't imagine a thing that could have made this a better experience, and 'Rest' makes it likely that we will continue to visit the area. read more

We are in a Amador/Plymouth often as we belong to a handful of wine clubs but we never really stay the night. We had our first experience with Rest during the Plymouth Wine Stroll earlier this year. We were impressed with the hospitality during that event and I knew I eventually wanted to stay here so we did recently for our anniversary in Sept. I was really impressed. We were called on the way up to find out when we were arriving because they wanted to make sure we made it in time for wine hour. From 5-6 they serve complimentary local wine in the front lobby area. During the wine hour they asked if we were having dinner at Taste (literally the only place open on a Tuesday night) because they had a deal on a gift certificate, so of course we took them up on the offer. So before we set off for dinner, we were informed that there would be freshly baked cookies waiting for us when we returned, a nice personal touch. We grabbed a bottle of wine and went outside and lit up the fire pit on the patio. In the main lobby they have complimentary supplies for making s'mores, another nice touch. Our room was very nice, clean and the best was really comfortable. I really want to eventually get one of the Zen pillows cause they were amazing. read more

Great little hotel in the sleepy town of Plymouth. All new, open just last year the rooms are clean and well appointed. 18 rooms total They offer free coffee and pastries for breakfast between 7 and 10 am and between 5 and 6 PM each night they have a local winemaker come and serve their wines and the restaurant Taste from two doors down brings some finger food appetizers. The rooms are very comfortable, although I would say that the really dense pillows are a little bit hard to get used to and we should've looked for the foam pillows in the closet. Each room has Keurig coffee available as well as some snacks - like potato chips or prepackaged olives, and they also have several beverages in the small refrigerator for no charge. This is the only place I stay when I come to the Area. No it's not because there isn't anything else. You can stay at Airbnb or even another selection of hotels in the area but why would you? This Hotel pays attention to the smallest details as well as every amenity your looking for. When I stay at a hotel I usually find several things, not up to standards and no I don't go running to the front desk unless it's a real issue. Rest has absolutely everything covered. From coffee in the room to first class beds, you will even find organized creamers in your glass door refrigerator (creamers go bad at room temp). Now let's talk about staff and the lobby. Can you say excellent! Everyone is kind and informational. Breakfast is served in the morning in this very cute lobby making you feel very welcome. Evenings, you will have very light appetizers served with a local wine. Rest has 16 rooms so make sure you call ahead. What a lovely hotel! A lot of thought and special touches make this a very high end comfy place to stay. The staff was accommodating and friendly. I believe there are only 16 rooms so it is not crowded and the staff isn't too busy to help right away. The continental breakfast is also not crowded which was nice and comfortable. I loved the spinach pastry, so good and it was warm and crispy. The room was cute and spacious and we chowed on the complimentary snacks and drinks. The windows open all the way and it was nice to let the fresh air in. I read that they have softer pillows in the closet and I should have used them because the ones on the bed were too firm for me. One complaint: the person in the room above us was VERY active and noisy. If I stay here again, I will ask for a room on the top floor to avoid this or remember to bring my ear plugs (I asked for them but the hotel does not provide them). The location is great, very close to some of the best eateries in Amador County - we highly recommend the restaurant next door, Taste! Amazing place! The staff was very friendly and courteous. The room was great and featured a clean, cozy package with all of the things you need to have a comfortable stay. It was very quiet with nice little spots to sit outside to enjoy a read or drink. I left my book there and the staff called me, and made sure I got it back!
