Do not schedule an appointment at Shepherd's Eye clinic if you have any type of medical or surgical issue. Please note all of the negative reviews. I scheduled an appointment with an ophthalmologist. I am not mentioning his name because he may be able to perform routine eye exams, although I would not recommend him for exams either. I have a medical condition that he was obviously unfamiliar with. He initially provided me with wrong information--and, then when he realized I was also a healthcare professional--he denied saying it. I purposively did not mention that I have a doctorate in another healthcare field. Any competent physician would have recognized their inexperience and immediately referred me to another surgical specialist. As a healthcare professional, it makes me very sad to encounter other professionals in the field who really do not care about their patients--or perhaps they are just arrogant? Of course, to make matters worse, I insulted him when I questioned him. So, he felt it necessary to insult me right back. read more

So disappointed in what this place has become. Sold out to corporate about a year ago and it shows. You guys are a disgrace to Dr. Shepherd and to Dr. Craythorn, who used to work there who was an amazing doctor. I still had faith in this institute even though Dr. Craythor no longer practiced here, went for an eye exam and prescription and never even made it to the exam room. I confirmed that procedures and fees were about the same over the phone when I made my appointment, since I used to come here regularly for about 16 years but haven't been back for about 3. I showed up here they wanted to charge me a lot more than discussed which i was still goinh to pay, but THEN tell me I might have to come back another day to see another lady for the prescription if it "had changed much" and would have to pay separately AGAIN to come back to do that, even though I was supposed to be here to see her in the first place. But there was no reduction in the fee for today for the health exam. What rubbed me the most is they were just so unabashed about the fleecing, and then further delighted in charging me an extra fee after all that because I was considered "new" since it's been over three years since I've been here, even though before that I was here consistently for 16 years. The lady happily informed me that that didn't really mean anything to them, because they have had patients for 50 years that she would still charge them the same new patient fee if there was a gap in them coming because they are corporate now , and no longer owned by Dr. Shepherd. Wow. I sat and thought about all that for a minute then asked to be refunded and left. Because I just going to give up and pay the exorbitant fee , but just couldn't after that. There are so many other places that deserve my money, which was over $200 for an eye exam. Overcharging, rude women running the whole front office. I encountered 4 and I was there for only 20 minutes. They also advised me to come a bit early to do paperwork and I was there 10 minutes prior, and then sat there for 20 minutes before they even called me up there to hand me any sort of form at all. Scheduled an appointment for my 14 year old to have a full medical eye exam and to be fitted for contacts. I live in the NW, and was informed pediatric doctor only had appointments in Henderson. Dr. spent 6 minutes of a 3 hour ordeal with my child. At hour 2.5, we were told that the pediatric eye doctor doesn't have anything to do with contacts. How incredibly frustrating. read more

Im sure The docs are great, this is a fine clinic. BUT..I must share that the office has the worse phone system. One must wait while recordings loop and re-loop with frequent disconnections after you've endured3-5 minutes of holding. Just another example of throwing unknown charges at you after the fact. I paid my deductable and a month and half later I get another bill for $40.00. So I went to see optometrist Dr. Brad Stewart at the Shepherd Eye Center today for a routine eye exam. I've never had such a comprehensive eye exam! I saw two separate technicians for preliminary eye tests, my eyes were dilated and then I saw the doctor for the final exam. During the final exam the doctor had his assistant write notes into the computer. Very professional. In the end I received prescriptions for eye glasses, contact lenses and eye drops for dry eyes (Restasis). Dr. Stewart answered all my questions expertly and satisfactorily. I'm 62 years old, had lasik surgery in the past and have dry eyes. I was contemplating seeing an ophthalmologist instead of an optometrist as my medical insurance provides for either but I'm satisfied that I received the best eye exam that any doctor could provide. read more

Probably the most unfriendly, robotic place I've ever been to. I am relatively sure upon being hired here you must agree to not engaged in conversation with the client or smile at them. The doctor, well i had to stop him twice from leaving the room to answer questions. Oh I was only told I had a detached retina and he's ready to run to the next patient. BE PREPARED TO WAIT - WAIT - WAIT! The staff seems pleasant, but the wait is ridiculous and nothing seems outstanding about the doctors or their presence, manners and care of individuals. I SAT in the WAITING room for ONE HOUR, and when I mentioned to the assistant they must be running behind, she said oh no, only an hour, we're doing good! Yesterday I went to get fitted for contacts with Jenny Hearn. She was pleasant and I left with a monovision contact to try. She said if I had any questions or problems I could contact her directly and gave me her extension. I tried to call her and couldn't reach her. My eye was hurting during the day and the contact felt weird. When I took it out later my eye was bright red. The next morning I woke up with eye pain and a black eye. I called the office receptionist and I was told that If I came to see someone that it would cost me $150 because they don't take my medical insurance even though the problem was caused by them. I would have to pay to come see a doctor to get checked out. The manager even said that is what happens when you have an HMO.... So needless to say I will not be going back to see them EVER again. Service was good. Only took two days to make an appt. The glasses arrived on time. My big concern is their lack of a large selection of men's frames. Although they had some stylish men's frames, the few that they had were in the $400- $500 range. Just as many men need glasses as women, Why the disparity in quantity for each sex? My first visit here was recently to the Pecos office and it went just fine. I personally take my prescription with me and do mail order glasses because they are way cheaper so I cannot comment on the eyeglass shop. When I got my glasses in the mail, they were perfect. The eye doctor Noll was fine and very professional and i felt he knew his stuff. For those complaining about the wait. For god sakes, you have to wait for everything, be patient. My wait was a little bit, nothing major. I felt like everyone I came into contact with was well trained and knew their stuff. Our doctor and surgery were great but the billing department is a nightmare. We stopped by the checkout desk after every followup visit and paid our full balance after every visit. A few months later I get a call from a collection agency saying I owe more money. When I called the billing department at Shepherd's eye center she told me that there was a balance from the surgery plus 2 co-pays. Again, I was in there office multiple times the months following our surgery and the last visit I was told that we did not have a balance. The billing lady told me that they mailed us a statement (which we did not receive) and that they made 1 phone call, they could not have done anything else. You could have told us we had a balance while we were in the office, you could have made more than 1 phone call and you could have left a message when we missed your 1 phone call. Now I am paying collection fees on top of this mystery balance. All of this when they've already made thousands of dollars off of my 1 year old daughters surgery. read more

I have been coming here for over 10 years and today will definitely be the last. Shepherd is an appropriate name as you are herded from room to room like cattle with lots of waiting in between. Waiting 2 hours for a simple eye exam for glasses, without dialation is ridiculous. Listening to employee's moaning about everything under the sun will keep you amused while you wait. My husband and I received a thorough examination with what seemed to be the latest in technology.

My husband and I have both gone to various doctors at Shepherd Eye Center and have been very pleased with the competency of the doctors and of the technicians. We were each just there this last week, and it looks like the coordination between the technicians on the various tests has gotten quite a bit better. We used to have to wait a rather long time between each test, but that wait time has been reduced quite a bit. Everyone is personable, professional, makes a point to introduce themselves and to clean all equipment, surfaces, etc in front of you with alcohol preps--which I really appreciate. read more

Don't really know how good the actual doctors are, as I spent 1 hr and 45 min there, waiting and seeing "techs" and 3 min with a doctor. My husband got 3-1/2 min with actual doctor. Not impressed. read more

My son needs a referral we saw Dr Rovit there sometimes in May, we were told that he would be reffred and wait for a phone call from the office, I last talked to them May 26 , I called today July 13 to find out about the refferal firtst I did talk to a guy in the referral dept he has no idea at all si I asked to talked to the head of refferal I did talked to Alexa and Odessa both rude on the phone all I need to know is the Dr's name to which we are reffered , anyway if we are experiencing this that I am capable of defending my self from their rudeness I feel bad for the older patients they deal with, I know for a fact they serve a lot of seniors and patients who have special needs , they need not be nice but just to be polite in answering questions , rude rude rude people out there read more
