It's only 6PM" -- I would have understood if he said "You have to use your key to come in after 9PM"... but he responded with something about the unhoused population that are in the streets of St. Paul. So... I enjoyed the hotel. But honestly, wouldn't ever come back to St. Paul unless work takes me back there. It felt like the entire city was under construction. There is a restaurant and bar just off of the lobby. There is also a fitness center and pool, although we did not use these amenities. One of the receptionists was very pleasant while the other receptionist clearly wanted to be anywhere else. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and recommend this Holiday Inn Express.

On check in, I found the young man to be very helpful and friendly. He explained the parking garage and how to get in from there and how to get to the baseball game that night. He went over the bar and restaurant hours as well. We parked and used our room key to get into the walkway to the hotel. Our room was at the very top! The views were fantastic. The room, however, struggled to get cool. It was a heatwave in the middle of July, so there's that. Otherwise the room was spacious, well decorated and stocked. The shower was a small stand in, hot water with good pressure. The bathroom itself was a bit small but it had enough space for my stuff. The towels left a lot to be desired. It was like toweling off with sand paper. The bed and pillows and linens were very nice. But like I said- we were hot all night. We appreciated the mini fridge, as we had leftovers from dinner that night. The coffee maker was very nice- albeit not the easiest one to work with at first. We had pre dinner drinks at the hotel bar. They have a happy hour with limited options but I was able to get a nice whiskey sour on a deal. We opted for the streets to get to dinner. The next day, we took the walkways through the other hotels and businesses to get to the game. We checked out and left our car in the parking garage. Everything was safe when we returned. We were able to use the hotel bathrooms before our road trip to Duluth but you need the code for the lobby restroom- it's at the desk. They have a little convenience store in the lobby if you need a snack or a drink. They do not have complimentary coffee or a concierge lounge for elites. Their bar IS a coffee shop though so you can get a nice cup of coffee for a small fee. I thought their prices were reasonable. It's a nice place to stay but you don't get a lot for your elite status and I would not recommend a room at the top. Maybe the AC works better on the lower floors? Great central location. Very safe. You have to park around the corner in a garage (not run by Marriott) and take a ticket. You then have to take said ticket to the front desk to get a QR code. Stopping by the front desk in the morning, they had no record of my ticket - it must have gotten lost. They said just to report it when I try to leave (by speaking to someone on the speaker at the parking lot exit). When I did that, they said NO YOU HAVE TO PAY - so I ended up getting charged twice - one from the parking garage and once from Marriott. They reversed the charge but it was such a waste of a time and a true pain to have to stop by the front desk after I checked out. The parking garage people are also very rude over the intercom! Additionally, the signage to the parking garage is horrible. I would never stay here again and park, since it was a horrid experience.

Fast forward to Lisa letting one of us go in the room to check for said wallet, me and her had exchanged words while waiting outside the room door, because she was simply just too rude and apathetic. No threats or anything just checking her because of her attitude towards me and my crying sister. She had also put her hands on my sister for trying to enter her room and claimed SEVERAL of us had threatened her by the end of the night. Yes we understand there's rules to getting another key and verification, but she could've handled it way better. After escalating things and being rude, my mother had defended us and ofc had a heated conversation to where Lisa then begun to call the cops not once but twice. All because she can start stuff but apparently can't take the heat back. During the heated convo, Lisa was wildly unprofessional egging my mother on to fight. By the end of the night, she had us all trespassed one by one, room by room kicking us all out even when my other family members weren't involved all because "we were associated by being family." She had also answered the front desk call from my sister, posing as a manager and LYING on the phone with one cop as a witness. I have never met such an unprofessional person in my entire life. We had no other problems with any other staff except her. We felt targeted and embarrassed all because she couldn't be nice. 0/10 and definitely don't recommend this place until she's dealt with. On the other hand, James, another worker is the absolute best and helped us to the best of his ability! Any other worker besides her was kind and accommodating.
