Stay away. Every day is some kind of convention or event so its very loud in the lobby and bar. You cant use any of the amenities because its reserved for events. They will clean your room every 3rd night so bring your own shampoo, conditioner and towels because you wont get it unless you fight with them. They expect one towel should last you 3 days. The good thing is that the beach is not crowded but its very far from the hotel so you will need to use the cart that is provided. Overall i will not be staying there in the future. read more

The hotel's pool and beach and jacuzzi are all beautiful. The pool is always packed so get there early for a pool chair! Also, watch out if you are trying to avoid kids...theres a ton of them! You mat want an "adult resort." The jacuzzi is great if you don't mind hot water in 90 degree weather! I loved it...my wife would rather avoid it. As for the beach, the sand is grainy...as if they crushed billions of sea shells to create the sand. Also the ocean looks like it is a mile away! So be prepared for a long walk. As for beach chairs and umbrella, they charge $25! So bring $ or a card to the beach. One plus...they have a vehicle that drives around and asks if u want to buy any mixed drinks, ice cream, or snacks. As for the rooms, they are average. They make it very difficult to change channels...u have to keep going back to the main menu. As for internet, it is NOT free! About $25-30 for 3 days! Parking is free however. Finally, the thing that irritated me the most; i booked on Expedia...part of the final booking has a "note" part for the hotel. I requested a top floor room, away from the elevator and ice machine with a beach or bayside view (thats a majority of the rooms since the west side of the rectangular building faces the ocean and the east side faces the bay). What do i get? A room on the 3rd floor (not the top), next door to the vending machine and about 30 feet from the elevator!) and a nice view of about 10% of the tennis court and perfect view of the side parking lot...no ocean or bay). I barely slept due to the ice machine's rattling noises, people being loud at 1 or 2am waiting for the elevator or coming out of the elevator and the maid knocking on our door first thing in the morning (like 830am???) read more

We love this hotel/resort and are just finishing our 2nd vacation stay here. I was initially drawn to this hotel because of the beachfront location and the fact that they are the only place right on the beach in the area that do not charge a daily "resort fee" of $25-$40 or parking fee. The pool is great with toys available, towel service, many employees around and a bar and cafe. We have never had a problem getting a great space to sit with multiple chairs for our family at any time of the day. The hot tub, kiddie pool and fire pit are also nice when we need a quick change of scenery. We love the hotel's private beach and each time we walk out there we joke about other reviewers that claim it is a "10 minute walk" away. It is maybe a 2 or 3 minute walk across the sand to get right to the private frontage. We always bring our own chairs or a blanket but they are also available to rent. There are no large crowds and plenty of waves to swim and play- and the gorgeous sunset each night is not to be missed. Our kids, ages 5 & 7 could easily stay here all day and go back and forth from pool to beach to playground to hammock to fire pit to pool to beach...room service is reasonable and very tasty. The staff is amazing- so friendly and helpful with everything. The room is pretty standard- smallish bathroom, comfy beds and beautiful balcony views. The fridge is nice to keep snacks and drinks and free Wifi is a plus. We always rent a car to explore the Tampa area which comes in handy at this location because there is not much within walking distance as there might be if staying at a resort near Pier 60. We like this because it also means we have quieter nights and not a lot of foot traffic. This is a great place for families to stay and I highly recommend it! read more

When searching for the perfect place to stay for a girls getaway weekend, we were in search of a hotel with direct beach access and the Sheraton Sand Key did not disappoint! Prior to arrival, I was able to work with Maria in Guest Services to help set up a special surprise for my mom as it was her 60th birthday. Maria was happy to accommodate my requests and went above and beyond! We loved having quick access to The Jolly Trolley which had many stops up and down Sand Key and Clearwater Beach sites. Although we didn't take advantage of the hotel restaurants for any meals, we did try some desserts and they were delicious. Now, for the best part, the BEACH! When you walk out the rear entrance to the pool, you are welcomed by white sand and clear water. There are loungers, hammocks, and games set up steps away from the hotel, and few hundred feet away is a sprawling private beach with chairs and umbrellas available for rent and fabulous sunset views! I was blown away to discover the most basic of hotel accommodations were not provided to guests of this hotel. No Wi-Fi provided unless you paid another $10/day, no breakfast provided (but you could order 1 egg any style for $7.99!) no fridge in the guest room, leaving me to constantly take my cooler to get ice. I can't describe in words how AWFUL the beds were! I would have been more comfortable on a piece of plywood, and ended sleeping on the floor. Our key cards worked maybe 1 out of 3 tries, and we constantly had to have someone come up to open our door. The shower never maintained a temperature longer than about 30 seconds. Did I mention they don't provide breakfast?!?!? I mean, really, who pays $7.99 for ONE egg?!?!?! Yes the scenery is nice, and there are loads of services if you're willing to pay. But as far as hotels are concerned, I would much rather stay at Spring Hill Suites or Hampton Inn any day of the week. And to think I paid $200 a night for this room! Ridiculous. read more

Here's an honest review of this hotel. For what we paid (about $215 per night), we were not impressed. Pros: -Yes, it has a private beach. -Decent rooms, very small restrooms. -Rusty Bistro inside the hotel had a nice breakfast. -Quieter side of the island. Cons: --The private beach has so many crushed shells on the walk to the beach and even in the water, that it's painful to walk or boogie board without getting scratched/cut up. -Pool was pretty small, compared to photos. -It was stormy weather when we visited, and the walk to the beach got flooded from the rain. -We got an alarming wake up call at 4 a.m. when the sliding door seal made an awfully loud flapping noise because of the wind. I literally had to stuff a washcloth in the door to get it to stop, and still sleep with ear plugs. -We had a mouse in our room run right past us in the afternoon (third floor)! The front desk apologized and gave me a small credit for the inconvenience, but the maintenance man made a joke out of it, which was not funny considering the circumstances. All in all, I'd recommend booking a hotel on the actual Clearwater Beach. It would be worth the money to be at a nicer beach and not have to travel there. We stayed here for our 2nd year anniversary. Most previous reviews were right. The hotel is old, but well-kept as a gem in the Sand Key island. The beach was not as soft sand as you would have around Pier 60, but you got a private beach without many foot traffic around you. Pool was small but clean. It gets crowded roughly after 10 AM over the weekend. They do close the pool when the dark clouds cover the sky- for the safety precaution. The room size is okie, the restroom size is SMALL, and you get your feet trapped with the door easily. I would said a sliding door would save the issue. We did get a nice room facing the pool, high floor, without much noise disturbance. A huge gap for the bottom of the room door is kinda annoying at night, but if your neighbor is quiet, it would not be an issue. The front desk, waiter, and all staff we met are very courteous and friendly. They made this hotel more valuable as we might stay here again for our next visit. read more

Rooms are outdated - you are getting a room from the 90s, not what is expected from a 4 star resort. Not clean - There was a lot of dust and some hair that was not cleaned on the side tables which we've had to clean. The carpets look like they haven't been cleaned in a while. The bedding was clean. Tiny bathrooms with rusted tub - the bathrooms are very small, the tub is small rusted and dirty on the bottom. If you are taller than 5'8 you have to duck to wash your hair. Mold on the bathroom ceiling. The AC sounds like a freight train. We've had to turn it off at night to get some sleep. The view - we got a partial golf view, which from the third floor we are staring at a roof from a small balcony. The only way to see the golf is to lean from the balcony. The pool is tiny and very crowded. Rooms get cleaned every 3 days, which is ok but if you are here for a week cleaning it on the day before you check out doesn't make sense. It would make much more sense to do it on the third and fifth day. The beach is nice, you do have to rent chairs and an umbrella, 35/day. There is a short walk to the beach but that wasn't a problem, it's maybe 5 minutes. The golf water s spectacular. Our room is 2 queen beds, and with taxes comes to $475 per night. Our expectation for that price and given the 4 star rating was a lot higher. We have stayed in quite a few hotels and this doesn't fit the price or rating. The view from our room of the pool and ocean were beautiful. The hotel rooms were definitely dated. The ceilings were low, the bathroom was clean but needed some grout work. For a family of four it was ok. There was a small fridge in our room and an icemaker machine not too far down the hall. This was helpful because we brought a lot of our own drinks and snacks for the kids. There is one pool, not very big and one hot tub. The pool area fills up quickly so you need to get down to that area early to claim your spot. There is plenty of lounge chairs all around the back of the resort, so there was never a time where we didn't have a place to sit. There is an outdoor bar, and also a separate snack bar. The snack bar served typical pizza, nachos etc, great for when you don't feel like heading into one of the restaurants. They do serve no alcoholic smoothies for the kids at the pool bar. There are several tennis courts if that's what you are into. They also have multiple volleyball net on the beach area. It's a long walk down to the water so you're never in anyone's way playing volleyball. We met some fantastic people at the volleyball courts, played many games. The walk down to the beach from the hotel is almost a mile, the sand can get hot so wear something on your feet. The beach itself is beautiful, I love Clearwater beach area for the white sand and calm waters. The kids had a blast search for shells in all shapes and sizes. There are more seashells here than anywhere, so if you are a crafty person, its a great place to pick some up for your next lamp or picture frame. Would I recommend this resort, yes, just don't have high expectations of the place. read more

I completely agree wit Sean B. The Sheraton Sand Key is past its "best by" date: the decor is outdated, the prices are too high, and you're merely paying for the opportunity to stay on the beach. I stayed at the Sheraton for a conference, which was held in the Sheraton and in the Marriott across the street. If I were to go back, I'd choose to stay in the Marriott instead. On the other hand, the staff were extremely friendly and the service was pretty good. But, that's not enough to make up for the lack of dining options in the area, and the expensive prices on property. read more

It's a nice hotel right on the beach. The pool area is so crammed packed with kids you can't even get a seat. The pool was small. So small I felt as though you couldn't swim or you would run into someone or thing. Yes there were noodles, inflatables, and kids throwing balls. We spent most our time at the beach where we rented a cabana with two chaise lounges for $25 for the entire day. For me that's a deal. They had a golf cart shuttle that would take you from the hotel to the beach and back. Great beach for shelling. read more

Sheraton Sand Key Resort is one of my favorite places to stay on the beach. This resort is located right on Clearwater Beach where the water is as its name suggests (Clearwater). I was greeted nicely by the valet attendant who directed me where to check in. The ambiance of the lobby is inviting with the lighting and décor. I did not have to wait a long time in the line as there were an adequate amount of check in staff available. The check in process was quick and efficient. My reservation was found quickly and I had no issues checking in. The resort rooms are very clean and in good condition with nicely decorated décor. The bed and linens are in good condition. The room had a pleasant smell. All rooms have a balcony with a spectacular views. There are several restaurants at this resort. There's a sports bar, a full dining restaurant, which serves dinner and buffet breakfast, and also another restaurant that serves lunch and dinner. There's also a snack bar in the pool area. There is also a club lounge for club members where there is complimentary food and beverages(yes, and alcohol) in a private room. And if you want to stay cooped up in your room, there is room service which delivers to your room into the wee hours of the night. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant has a variety of breakfast food items, as well as a breakfast menu to order from. There is also a fitness center with a fair amount of exercise and fitness equipment. There is a huge tennis court. There is a huge pool on the premises adjacent to the fine pristine waters of the beach where is a volleyball area and an area where they hold weddings. There is also a gift shop inside the resort. I mean, I could go on and on about the variety of amenities at this resort and I'm sure I will forget something. The staff members are always available to assist guests promptly when requests are made. Sheraton Sand Key is always my first choice when spending a weekend at the beach. read more

Now owned by the Marriot chain is no way up to Marriott standards. For an extended stay I was given a room that was right next to elevators and the housekeeping supply rooms. Room was dirty ,carpet had stains everywhere and even wallpaper looked like someone threw something at it. It was a hassle getting my room changed and wasn't given a new room until late the next day. Hotel was busy and quite a few people were not wearing masks. Taking elevators provided no social distancing. Hotel made no provisions to protect guests against these situations. The people are very sweet and accommodating. The location is very scenic. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed, it's not the Ritz but it's aesthetically pleasing. We dined at the Mainstay Tavern which has excellent fish and chips with just the right amount of batter. My husband had the nachos with pulled pork and could not eat them because they were too sweet. We also ate at Rusty's Bistro. Nice atmosphere with live music, great wines and service. I enjoyed the rusty salad and stuffed salmon both very tasty. However, my husband ordered the double cut pork chop that made him sing! "LITERALLY". Well we all know I had to taste it, and the apples accompanying the chop and in the sauce made it addictive. Not to mention it was perfectly prepared. We had the chef come out so we could clap for him. Great place, I would definitely return. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here! The hotel is older & smaller than the neighboring hotels, but that doesn't matter to us. Room was spacious, bath was standard but we appreciate the extra countertop. Very family friendly, they even have a microwave on every floor by the ice machine. Very convenient for when your kid demands that mac n cheese, I'm telling you. If you prefer to dine out, there are restaurants on site. Pool is on the small side, but there is a kiddie pool & hey you got a whole ocean to swim in anyway. The beach is quite a walk from the hotel but they fortunately provide a golf cart to shuttle you to & fro. If you don't see the golf cart just wait for a couple minutes! The beach has umbrella & loungers rental for a very affordable $18 for the whole day. Towel service was easy too. Will def stay here again when we're in Clearwater. read more

Upon check we were repeatedly and rudely asked for the name of the second occupant of the room. Only after it had been made painfully clear we weren't going to provide the name was the issue dropped. Apparently they don't require it, but they will demand it. So, if you value your privacy, or I suppose if you're having a discrete rendezvous, don't choose this hotel unless you want to be grilled by the staff about who will be staying in the room. Other than that, the hotel was wholly unremarkable. It was clean, and the room was nice with a pretty view of the beach. However, no in-room microwave, and no in-room mini fridge were both big disappointments. Hotel maids didn't get around to cleaning our room until probably 11 or 11:30. read more

Occasionally you experience welcome and relaxation in expected places and usually when you pay a lot for it. Luckily you can also experience that when not paying a lot. The Sheraton Sand Key Resort, in Clearwater FL is a medium priced, high customer service experience. The hotel itself is unique for the style in the Clearwater area, very fitting look and amenities, and much nicer than most hotels in this area. The pool area, while a little compact, is laid out nicely, but the beach areas is fantastic. Volleyball, corn hole, beach tennis and beach chairs are great for this spot. While it's a long sandy walk to the Bay, the sand is clean and packed down so walking is easy. The chair and umbrella rental on the beach is a little pricey but the foods and drink cart are nice additions. The real gem in this are the people. From Janet, when we checked in, to all the staff we encountered, even the window washer we rode the elevator with, were all happy and very engaging. We had some strange snafu with our reservation, the staff went out of their way to accommodate us and make sure we were happy and comfortable. I would rate this a 5+ because of the staff, but I rated a 4 due only to the room bathroom size and style, a little old and very small. Is also love to see them arrange their restaurants so there is nicer outdoor eating. We would have stayed on premise for lunches had there been a nicer outdoor restaurant. We will certainly come back and stay here again if ever the chance arise. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. Although the rooms are a bit dated, the pool and proximity to the beach are great. Some people complain that there is a long walk to the beach, but it's not that bad. The sunsets are beautiful and you can even find some beautiful shells on the beach. Even on days when the hotel was completely full, they are able to get people checked in early. The staff is all friendly and very accommodating. They gave me the worst room in the hotel room 208 it has a outside brick wall blocking the entire outside window view which is on top of a garage structure. It is short walk to a nice beach, very quiet and relaxing not crowded but hotel not near anything that is walking distance. Hotel have a free shuttle to downtown about ten minute ride. Hotel is older and small bathroom. I prefer the downtown side for more things to do around a hotel. read more

Loved our stay here and we were sad we had to leave. The staff was amazing and attentive. Beds were super! Water pressure in the showers was not good...almost like a light rain. The a/c unit in our room was rather noisy when it ran...it didn't bother us though because we tried to not be in our room - it did wake me up during the night a few times. The food choices at the resort were great. The Island Grille was probably my favorite, but others in our group raved about the prime rib at Rusty's Bistro. There were many options for activities at the resort - pool, tennis, sand volleyball, bags, and football. Of course the Gulf is a short 5 minute walk. There is a beautiful county park next door that we walked through - very clean and scenic! The fitness room was phenomenal! Lots of options for the trainers in our group. They even offered an in-room training option that allowed visitors to "check out" fitness equipment to use in the comfort of their room. We did not have a vehicle and found the Jolley Trolley to be quite affordable and convenient. read more

The room was a bit smaller than I had hoped but it was big enough for my 3 bridesmaids, my mom, my older sister, and myself to get ready for my wedding. That's including a makeup and hair stylist as well as our professional photographer. I really wish I could have had a room on the side of the hotel overlooking the beach, but they said it could not be accommodated :( One of our relatives even paid for our room both nights and they sent us up a note from the relative (I still have no clue who the anonymous relative was!) and a bottle of champagne (not on the right night, but oh well). Honestly, what would have made this a 5-star review is if they had free wifi. I lived for 2 nights off of the tethering on my phone because I am not going to pay $$$ for freaking wifi. We stayed here in June, check in was okay got a lower level front room with a pool view but the palm trees were overwhelmingly blocking the view. We asked previously for a higher floor but they said they were fully booked but lots of top floors and balconies appeared empty. This hotel is located oddly on the other side of Clearwater Beach, and far walk from the beach, but if you are looking for quieter time away from crowds it's for you. Worse experience, the staff was racist and inexperienced in hotel management. I dined in the bistro and saw a guest over served liquor and becoming intoxicated. The server stole $60.00 in tips and allowed him to fall a flight of stairs causing serious injuries. The blood from the injury caused severe bleeding which fell on my feet. The night manager Kevin Keys made rude racist remarks saying that we were "pieces of latinos". I also saw a child almost drown in the pool and the staff laughed and did nothing. I need to make several requests to have my room cleaned, and would not change the sheets for clean ones The bartenders are very rude and nasty, not friendly to children. I had three days of hell with this racist staff at the hotel. I left two gold items in the room's safe. The items were stolen from my room and the hotel staff said no one did it and was believed to be my fault I would never recommend this hotel and not have this hotel be a part of Sheraton! read more

I have never been more disappointed in a hotel that has such high ratings. The pool was way too small and even though it is on the beach the walk to the beach was over 1,000 yards. Also our air conditioner wasn't working and by the time the maintenance man finally showed up we were in bed. The carpet was dirty and the room overall was rundown. To top it all off we woke up to a giant cockroach on our ceiling. What a disappointment especially for $350 a night. Needless to say we won't be staying there again. read more

Our room had peeling wallpaper and mildew in the grout of the shower. While the pool area is nice, it's nearly impossible to get a chair or actually enjoy the water - absolutely filled with people at all times. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. Just shy of 4 stars because of a few small factors. The bathrooms are tiny, so tiny that I found myself drying off and getting ready out in the main area of my room. Second, the hallways get noisy. There is a big gap between the door and the floor, you hear everyone that walks by. Luckily, we were at the end of a hall so it wasn't that bad. I wouldn't want to stay near the elevator, ice machine, etc. The restaurant here, Rustys, is really good. Went there for breakfast and dinner. Both times were great. Staff is very nice and helpful. Rooms are clean, the bathrooms could use a little updating. The pool area is nice, it's a little on the small side and gets crowded as the day goes on. The beach is nice but it's about a 500+ yard walk. When you step off the pool area, you're technically on the beach but you have to walk a ways to get to the shore. It's not bad if you're an adult but kinda a pain if you have kids or are bringing a bunch of stuff. They have chairs and umbrellas to rent for $25/day. Overall, it's a good hotel. If the bathrooms were bigger and updated, the halls were quieter and the shore just a bit closer, it would be a great hotel. read more

Arrived a few hours earlier than check in and was told room wouldn't be ready until 3pm. As I waited in front lobby for the 1st hour, I kept hearing ppl walking in and getting their rooms assigned and keys with directions to the elevator. I asked if my room was ready and they said no some are ready earlier than others. Needless to say I learned my lesson not to call ahead and have anything noted in my reservation because that doesn't help. My husband had the seafood buffet @ $35pp he was satisfied, but I had a Parmesan risotto with Chicken Marsala that was life changing! My son had a burger and fries which were beautifully presented as well as delicious in his opinion.
