Top 5 places to go in milwaukee for great cafe vibes!! A place that focuses on healthy, doesn't upset your stomach food options including rotating high quality soups, breads, sandwiches, salads, bakery goodies, you can't ask for a better place to go to! Must try the high quality bowl of soup with a side of bread and a sweet and savory morning bun for later! To add, the owner is so nice and friendly and overall great service and atmosphere!! 5/5

I moved to Milwaukee a year ago, and have been searching for rugelach the entire time. I finally found it at Amaranth! I will definitely be back!

Fantastic cafe! Very unique and fun flavor combinations when it comes to the food and pastries. Wonderful ambiance. It's the place to go for relaxed and tasty weekend morning coffee. It seems to have many regulars, which is definitely a good sign.

Delicious breads and scones. There may be a little bit of a wait, but it's worth it. Great value on breads and scones. I bought one of each, and the price was just right, the flavor perfect. This place is a little out of the way for me, but will be a spot I visit when I'm in the area. You must give this place a try

What to say that would even do justice to this Milwaukee hidden gem!? Located on a forgotten little stretch of Lisbon, it is easy to pass by unnoticed - don't make that mistake! If you want to feel like you are in a welcoming little café in France, enjoying mouth-watering specialties, you need to check out Amaranth. You can taste the difference in every morsel, clearly made with love. Every soup, salad, and sandwich is sure to be the best you've ever had! I personally LOVE the savory gallettes (not sure I spelled that right). I like that they are more dense (more bread like than flakey) and just right in every way. And don't forget about the dessert- oh my God so good. Who needs a trip to France when you have this adorable place with fantastic food right in your own backyard.

Such a gem with a cozy charming atmosphere and a lovely assortment of baked goods! Came on a Friday morning, there were plenty of people coming and going but it was never hectic or noisy like some cafes can be. There are a good amount of seats and tables available inside and it seems like the perfect spot to enjoy a book and some coffee. We did not get to stay though, we picked up pastries to go which was efficient as we were able to park on the street right in front. Service was fast and friendly. I thought they would have limited selections but they had plenty of varieties of cookies, scones, fruit tarts, croissants, rolls, etc. Tried several of them and everything was really good. Would highly recommend the pear almond tart. Everything on display looked delicious though and I will definitely be back to try more!

Even in the pandemic, Amaranth is churning out AH MAZ ING goods. Thankful for the delicious ways to consume carbs!! Recently went back for croissants which they had already sold out of (we gotta beat those early birds next time!) but left with a baguette and this delicious caramelized onion + fennel bread. It wasn't what we went for but boy am I glad we got some. It was savory with a hint of sweetness from the onion, salty but not overly so, great tooth on the bread. I don't know if it's a regular offering but I will for get that every time I go back now. Haven't tried anything that I haven't been 200% in love with. So, even if Amaranth is out of something, be open-minded and try something new!

Amazing service, adorable indoor seating area, fresh bakery available! Check out the outdoor patio and garden! We ordered a scallion bread loaf, blueberry lemon scone, and coffee. The scone was flavorful and not dry! We devoured all the food!

An adorable and friendly bakery with high quality pastries! We came around 8am on an Friday and it definitely seemed like a go to spot for locals. The man at the counter, who I believe was the owner, was very friendly and helpful. Plenty of pastries in the early AM but for sure, they will sell out quickly for how delicious they are. We loved the pear and almond tart which had the perfect sweetness and bite. The pecan brioche bun also wasn't overly sweet and was soft and fluffy. A unique twist to your typical denser pecan buns. A great local find that had a cozy, family feel!

For reasons I never can rationalize or explain, I really love the Washington park neighborhood from like the area around Washington park and the library on down. Friends who live or grew up in the city always tell me no..you can't live there, its a bad neighbor hood, blah blah blah. Nonetheless, I take lisbon/walnut street on my way back to the east side because theres just something I love about that area. Soooo..imagine my surprise when I find out theres a coffee house enroute! Cute, but more in an art deco/arts and crafts sorta way without trying too hard. The coffee was good and reasonably priced. I didn't get any baked goods but the case was full of yummy looking treats as well as a lunch menu. (The soup sounded really good) Next to the building was a little patio with outdoor tables and a community/urban garden. Cute! Going to try to make this my routine morning work coffee stop.

LOVE this place. The owner clearly has a passion for his business and for supporting the local community. The inside is small and cozy and the quintessential neighborhood bakery. Lots of community projects are highlighted up on the walls of the place and quite often I see teachers and students meeting for discussion. Onto the food. The seeded ciabatta is worth the drive alone. The perfect blend of crispy crust and chewy doughy inside. It normally sells out early in the morning so i've found calling ahead so they put a loaf aside is the safest bet. They also have great rotating specials, like chicken pot pie, and lots of great soups. Everything ive every gotten has been awesome and you can tell made with a lot of love. FYI- they also do bike perks (free cup of coffee). Definitely check this place out and tell everyone you know.

When I first pulled up to the building it was 7:30am, and they were open. But the windows somehow made it look dark inside, and I literally had to put my nose to the glass to see any activity. Otherwise I might have thought they were closed and kept going (special glass that cuts down glare inside?). Once inside there are several different areas for seating; the bar with stools, the front windows ledge with more stools, or the center area that has larger tables for various size groups. Lots of natural light from the front windows. The interior design, is a bit industrial, well lit, and welcoming. Things were neat and clean. Inside there was a short line to the counter which was right ahead. Took a few minutes to arrive at counter and order. Got a pleasant greeting and help with the order. I ordered the usual London Fog Tea Latte (little lavender, little vanilla, and extra foam). They didn't have much in the way of pastries/bakery. They were out of the Coffee Cake, but suggested the Apple Galette supplied by Miss Molly Bakery. They don't have the ability to warm up the bakery, which was a little disappointment. They took their time steeping the tea, which is a good thing. It came with a nice head of foam, had great flavor, and was the right temperature (148F). Texture-wise it could have been a little creamier. The Apple Galette was amazing. The crust was flakey and nicely sprinkled with course sugar. The apples had great flavor and were moist. The atmosphere was relaxed and most people were having quiet conversations. There's a very chill cat (Sugar) roaming around the place, and occasionally keeping people company. Not my favorite, but definitely a place that I would return to.

While a tiny place, you're greeted with a wonderful smell as soon as you open the door, embracing your nose like a warm hug. Service was great! Staff was efficient and offered great suggestions, such as when I wanted the grilled cheese but I am not a fan of pepperjack and it was offered to add in some mozzarella instead of the pepperjack and it was not only a thoughtful suggestion, it was an amazing sandwich! I did a combo with the ginger carrot soup and it definitely had the ginger kick but was not too potent for me and I appreciated the suggestion from staff to try this one. Just a couple small quibbles that prevented Loup from getting five stars: - There were no croutons, crackers, or bread served with the soup. That is a must for me and something that can be easily corrected. - The M&M cookie--while quite large--was not great, especially for $4. It's my husband's favorite kind of cookie and he only had about a third of it before passing it on to me. I ended up having it at home with milk (which helped) but it was overall a disappointing and expensive dessert.
