I only ever do simple cuts, nothing fancy. My haircut, done by Anderson (a level 3 stylist), is objectively good. The skill was there. But it's definitely shorter than I wanted it. Went in for a lob, came out with an asymmetrical bob...Honestly I was panicking while he was drying it because it was starting to look like Lord Farquaad from Shrek. I asked if he could style it like in the reference pictures I showed (simple waves, to reduce Farquaad-ness). He tried to do it with the brush/dryer, which obviously wasn't working, and didn't want to use a flatiron. So I just suffered through scalding heat on my scalp and hair pulling. I got told I don't have curly hair. I got told I don't have frizzy hair. I, in fact, have both of those. Some other minor things: 1. When I got home I had some hair that was noticeably longer than the rest, like it never got cut. So...I had to do it. Just a few strands, but normally stylists check for that when your hair is dry. 2. I almost never use heat on my hair, so I asked for recs and mentioned a specific brand doesn't work for me. He immediately said he loves that brand. I said yeah...but it doesn't work for me. Anything else? "Any salon brand." Cool. Not helpful. 3. Asked for something at the end to tame the pieces that were sticking out (again, I have frizzy hair). He looked...confused? Smoothing as a last step has been standard at every other place I've been to. There is nothing in the whole salon like that? Also, my introvert-self just wants to go somewhere where I don't have to be engaged in conversation the whole time. Anyway. Won't go back, my hunt continues.

Not just any cut (I've been trimming my freakishly long hair for years), I saw Monique Samuels on RHOP with a cute bob and decided that was the hair for me. With newfound conviction that I was a professional hair dresser, I lopped off 6 inches. What? Yes. Confidence. When I found that it was not to my liking, instead of going to an actual professional, I went back in to give myself layers and BANGS. What is wrong with me? Anywho, fast forward a year, my hair had grown out but was long in places it shouldn't be long and short in places I didn't want it to be short. Upon recommendations, I made an appointment with Hanna. 1.) she's worth every penny. My hair is deceptively thick and needs a high quality (no Supercuts here) hairdresser to strategically tame it and also make it manageable for me. I have super course dark hair that doesn't lift easily and the whole process took 8 hours but the salon felt comfortable enough that it didn't seem like it was that long. I recently moved to Arlington, VA from Maryland and for months I've looked everywhere for a hair…read morestylist. For context the stylist I've been to for years is based in Baltimore and with how traffic can get I can't justify spending 40% of my saturday going to Baltimore to get my hair done. So I began the search looking for a new hairstyle salon. Tried Alexandria, Springfield, even Fairfax. But none have provided what I need and certainly not justifiable of the price it commanded. So I tried HairSocial because I found it on Google and I liked I can book online. My hair appointment consists of the following: Wash, Blow Dry, and an undercut. Sometimes I'll get it flat-ironed depending on the occasion. So I booked 4 days in advance and when I arrived for my appointment I had to wait 20 mins after my actual time (for context it was a Sunday afternoon and no one else was in the shop except for one customer). When I was seated I was only given a haircut and nothing else despite asking for a hair wash and a blowout. Considering I had to put a downpayment online to book the appointment I naturally felt bamboozled. They offered to do what I originally asked but they said I had to wait an hour. I didn't have time as I had a family dinner I had to attend so I decided to go home and wash my own hair. Before I left, the front desk offered to refund me on my card and then said no and could only offer me a credit. The credit was tied to my account yet the credit isn't available when you book online you can only access the credit if you call to set up an appointment. Extremely disappointed but the stylist did a great job with my haircut. I'm just disappointed that I didn't get what I paid for at a reasonable time. Thankfully the management of the loc in Tysons Corner set things right and as a result despite this location being closer to me I go out of my way to visit the HairSocial in Tyson's Corner (that review will be coming shortly).

I had searched for pictures of what I was trying to achieve, ( she would have NO clue from looking at all the hair on my head) Upon entering the salon, I noticed all employees were wearing masks and gloves. She took my temperature too. I proceeded to show Lynn the pictures and running my hands through my hair explaining this and that. She asked if she could cut my hair it by spritzing it with water.
