Avoid this office. It's a complete mess. Folders, paper, binders all strewn about. I was referred to Dr. Hua by my doctor for potential surgery. Instead I got scheduled with the PA (for surgery!). I refused and eventually saw Dr. Hua The lady who checked me the second time was completely rude and basically lied to me saying they have access to my MRIs when in fact they did not. I think she making a person phone call and seemed bothered by my presence. When I walked in the room, it was not cleaned up for the next patient. I had to point to the dirty/used paper on the eval bench. My doctor wrote a lengthy referral to Dr. Hua and he never read it. Instead, he forced me to go over my history for which the message really lost. Even though I told Dr. Hua my thoracic was greatly affected, he did not look at the thoracic MRI. The dude actually said "do you want me to look at it?" or "do you want me to read your doctor notes?" Dr. Hua's eval was PATHETIC. A simple google search proved his comments wrong. This shows he has limited knowledge on what the neck actually does in the whole scheme of the body. This was the extremely scary part. Also, his findings were the complete opposite of what another spine surgeon found. This office seems to be focused on workers comp cases and you will get treated like a workers comp patient with all the frustrations, rudeness, and incompetent service you would expect. read more

Dr. Hua is an AMAZING surgeon, but he needs a whole new staff! His PA Nisha will tell you one thing in person when you two are alone, but another thing. I was supposed to have a 2 hour screws that turned into a 12 hour tbh no one has really communicated, it's sad that the medical field basically throws people away! There's just no way to top this neurosurgeon, and his experience, and his very well trained and incredibly experienced staff, especially his PA, Nisha, and every member of his staff! I had more than half my cervical spine replaced/repaired just two months ago, and the results are astonishing, nothing short of a miracle in my book! I have, unfortunately, been to many neurosurgeons in the past year. Dr. Hua was the 1st to take the time to correlate my symptoms with my MRI scans and was able to diagnose me immediately (something the other neurosurgeons couldn't figure out in 11 months). Since then, he has placed a spinal cord stimulator in me that has absolutely changed my life (for the better). His staff: Neesha P.A., Ken, May, Nhu, Christian and everyone else are absolutely wonderful. They all go the extra mile! I would definitely recommend them to anyone. read more

Dr Hua is amazing! I'd seen 10+ doctors over the years since an accident for my back pain and not one doctor looked through the MRI. They just looked at the Xray and dismissed me to pain mgmnt. Dr Hua is patient, kind and he and his PA Dr Lee, are very thorough. Top notch staff S well. His surgery scheduler Nhu is easy to work with and I had no problems or mix ups. She knows what she's doing. The staff has followed up with me after hours. Now that's exemplary care. Thank you Dr Hua and staff!! read more

Dr. Hua is a neurosurgeon, with offices in Hayward and Campbell, Ca. He operated on my wife a year ago, today. She had two bulging disks in her neck and needed a multi-layer disk replacement. Although we were initially apprehensive about the serious nature of the surgery, Dr. Hua's wonderful manner and competence put us at ease, and gave us assurance that all would turn out alright. He told us exactly what he was going to do, how it would be done and answered all of our questions, patiently and completely. The operation was done without any problems. It lasted over five hours, and Dr. Hua was able to replace the damaged disks with titanium replacements, that will serve my wife for the rest of her life. The doctor employed a minimally-invasive surgery technique that left an almost unnoticeable dime-sized scar on my wife's neck and aided in her recovery. Dr. Hua's after-care was comprehensive, and he was diligent and attentive through the months of physical therapy and rehabilitation. He monitored my wife's progress and sincerely cared about how she was recovering. A year later, my wife feels like she has a new neck! The constant pain and pressure she felt prior to the surgery have gone, and she has full flexibility in the area. Thank you Dr. Hua for your skill, dedication and care. in the three Appointemnts I had with Him he was 45, 52, and 1hour 10 mins WAIT!!!! with no apology or anything ... BAD BAD BAD he didnt even use gloves when removing my Spinal cord leeds . and then jut throw them in the trash not hazard bag .. BAD BAD BAD ...if i had another choice I would have stopped seeing him after making me wait 45 mins with no explanation,,,just cuase he's a Doctor doesn't mean his time of more valuable them mine ... I don't usually leave a review on yelp but this time I had to. Dr. Hua is amazing and very friendly. I've suffered from the neck pain for few years and he recommended me for the artificial disc replacement surgery. When I woke up from the surgery, my severe pain was gone. It's been only week since surgery and I can pretty much do everything without severe pain. He is just AMAZING and I am very LUCKY. And also his assistant Kate is very professional and friendly as well. Huge appreciation to Kate and Dr. Hua for taking care of me. The doctor and his staff are not professional. This doctor shared an office with other doctors. However, his staff do not sit at the lobby. They sit in the back. You do not see them from the lobby. When you come in, just put your name on the sign up sheet and once awhile, a staff will come out to check. My appointment at 10AM. I came in at 9:30AM and my name was the first one on the sign up sheet. By 10:40AM, a staff came out and called a patient that came after me in. I asked the staff how long do I had to wait. She said, the doctor was seeing a patient with 9AM appointment that did not put her name on the sign up sheet. If the patient did not put her name on the sheet and you sit in the back, how did you know when the patient arrived? Assuming that she was telling me the truth, so the doctor was seeing her from 9AM to 10:40AM and still did not finish? The doctor was not in a surgery for sure since I saw him walking around few times. I did not think the staff telling me the truth. By 11:10AM, they took me in a room. By 11:20AM, the doctor came in, introduced himself and asked what he could do for me. How's about an apology for making me wait 1hr 20? We talked for 5 minutes, then the doctor said he wanted to see my MRI film again. He walked out then stepped into another room to talk to another patient. Since the door of my room did not close, I heard him introduced himself to the patient and asked for her name. 4 minutes later, he came back and talked to me for few more minutes. He spent about 10 minutes with me and I had to wait for 1hr 20 minutes. The office schedules the appointments for patients with 15 minutes apart. I understand that sometimes the doctor may have an urgent matter to take care of. So 10 to 20 minutes wait is not a big deal for me. However, if the doctor knows that he will be late for more than 30 minutes, he or his staff should come out and notify the patients what was going on, and the doctor should apologize for his tardiness. I don't think this doctor and his staff are professional at all. I will not come back to this doctor again. read more

I have an extensive history of neck issues and have had 2 prior fusions. An adjacent level disc herniated so Dr. Hua recommended an artificial disc replacement, vs. a fusion to preserve range of motion. Dr. Hua is compassionate, and a highly skilled Neurosurgeon. I recommend him, especially if you have complex spinal issues. read more

My mother just drove a over an hour and a half for a consultation with Dr. Hua and was sent away by a very unsympathetic receptionist. I can't speak as to Dr. Hua's expertise, but his staff could certainly use some lessons in customer care. read more

There is so much I want to share. He's fairly kind and very polite in conversation. He's calm, he's clearly very skilled in his craft, however he is not qualified for extremely complex cases such as mine. I can assure you that I thought I was in the best hands--my procedure with Dr. Hua went swimmingly, and it seemed as though all would be good--my symptoms have subsided and I was happy and I was relieved. However, less than two months later it all came back and I was confused, startled and concerned, let alone incredibly miserable. Fast forward to 2 1/2 years later I am still struggling to find my words in regards to how I feel about Dr. Hua now. I visited a very, well known and highly respected surgeon at UCSF and (for the same problem that he supposedly corrected). It turns out that after some in-depth imaging studies such as MRI and basic x-rays it was clear as day what the problem was in my lower back. I actually have a lifelong congenital abnormality that is in layman's terms a flat tailbone. And a flat tailbone is by no means innocent although it sounds as such. It is extremely painful and debilitating and it is something that will not go away until it is reconstructed--so the surgeon that I am now with is planning a very major procedure in reconstructing and building an anatomically correct and anatomically performing tailbone. Sadly, I was told that the physician that did my prior fusion work should have spotted this without a blink and that it was so obvious and not only that, it was also so obvious that the procedure approach that he took actually created more problems for me for when I do have the lower back and sacral/coccyx reconstruction surgery. Something as basic as this, (the problem that I was born with), should not have been gone undetected or let alone should I have not been informed. read more

Q: How do I judge whether a doctor is effective? A: What he says will happen, happens! Dr. Sherwin Hua is attentive and effective. I had my discectomy performed by Dr. Hua at St. Rose Hospital (a small but great hospital) in Hayward, CA. Dr. Hua was very reassuring before the operation. Post-op, he said things would get much better within two months. Within two days, I was cautiously walking. I could have started walking earlier, but my own concerns kept me from trying too hard. Sure enough, each day up to the two month mark, I felt better and gradually gained confidence to move around more and more. Now I feel just about "brand new". My L4-L5 bulge had greatly affected my movement and the pain was unbearable. I had tried pain killers, physical therapy, and steriod shots. None worked and things got worse. Dr. Hua indicated that it was a structural issue that he could fix. And fix it, he did. Dr. Hua receives my highest recommendation. read more
