Our server was attentive, and I think the prices are reasonable for the location. Food was good, though I think with a few changes it could go from good to great. For instance the children's menu pasta was just noodles and sauce--no parmesan, no little piece of bread. Five stars for ambiance, assuming you get seated near a window. Cane here to celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was great. Our Waitress was friendly and attentive. The Penny Pasta with andouille sausage and chicken was delicious and spiced perfectly. My wife had the Haddock sandwich. The haddock hung over the both sides of a large dinner plate. It was perfectly breaded (lightly) and cooked to perfection. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeably and timely and not over bearing. Sorry, I forgot your name. My husband and I had a very good experience here not long ago. This restaurant/tavern is located inside the most charming historic inn. Our server was upbeat and helpful with food selections. The French onion soup and fried green tomatoes were perfection! I loved how light the breading was on the tomatoes! The burger and chicken salad sandwich were both very good but definitely not spectacular. We'll definitely return when in the area again! Had a wonderful dinner at the Sherwood Inn during our trip to Skaneateles. I had a delicious penne pasta with chicken and andouille sausage after starting with a bowl of tasty French onion soup. My wife's salmon was also delicious and we both loved the warm fresh bread that they serve to start. Shout out to Jamie who took great care of us. The hotel is beautiful... in the heart of the village and overlooking the lake ... established in 1807 as a tavern to be part of a stagecoach business... later converted into a hotel ... a beautiful historic building to stay and dine in. We have been staying at the Sherwood Inn for over 25 years. Our last visit, this month , was excellent. The Pot Roast and Grilled Chicken Sandwich were excellent as was breakfast. Our room had a gas fireplace and 2 comfortable chairs and every staff person we encountered was both friendly and competent. The only downside we experienced was that we weren't able to sit downstairs with a glass of wine and enjoy the wood fireplace as we used to following dinner as all the seats were occupied. read more

My husband is from Auburn and has been a diner at the Sherwood Inn for many years. Now that he has moved back from the capital district, and we purchased a property here and started a vineyard, we eat at the Sherwood frequently. We were there last week and with all the people visiting the village, our meals were not up to their usual standards. I think we will wait until the crowds leave to return but we understand how people visiting town are drawn to the Sherwood. Place is lovely and quaint and traditionally colonial looking. Reservation ready. We were a party of 7. Sat at a table in the bar area. Drinks are nice, wine too and reasonably priced. Onion soup was good. Salad was good. Baked Brie was yummy with roasted tomatoes. Scrod and cod were good. Chicken was dry and we had to send it back for a new order. Which they did with no trouble. Burger was good too. Service was friendly and fine. Nothing was exceptional. Wouldn't bother to return but would like to try other restaurants in the area. read more

I have never gone to the Sherwood inn for just dinner or lunch. I have gone there for special occasions. Easter, mother's Day. I'm sure on the dinner menu their buffet style food is just as delicious and elegant as the menu. Everything is always fresh top quality. Kind of makes you feel special when you're eating it it's that good. They also have the boat tours and they do a lunch and dinner buffet I've been on both in both equally good. The salad the meat the everything is fresh and delicious serve piping hot while you enjoy it a great boat ride. The Sherwood restaurant is always packed with people the atmosphere is very warming. The wait staff is always very attentive to you. From the minute you walk in until you leave you feel very special there. Definitely a go-to spot especially for the holidays when you don't feel like cooking and you want to be spoiled this is the place to go to. read more

We haven't visited the inn for many years, but with their "Jazz on the Lawn" concert series we just had to. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, but they moved everything indoors and it was almost as good. The live entertainment was "The Hot Club of Syracuse", one of our favorite local bands performing songs from the Great American Songbook, Irish tunes and Romani music, as well as the the great Grapelli and Reinhardt. The menu was varied and tasty. It included shrimp cakes, chilled corn soup, chicken curry and strawberry shortcake. The only flaws were an oversalted soup, and overcooked rice with the curry. Cocktails were good if unremarkable. I was chagrined to find that they don't have a single draft beer available, only cans. Service was friendly and paced well for the evening. We spent about 2.5 hours there, and the bill for two dinners and four drinks came to $200. read more

The food here was so delicious, that pasta was so good! The oysters were topped with this amazing garlic sauce, it was unreal good. I can't say enough about how good the service was. We arrived late and told them we were sorry but we had a reservation, but we were late for it, and they still found us a nice table and they were apologizing to us for us, having to wait for them to find a table for us. We were like oh my gosh thank you so much Please do not apologize to us we were late!! Ambience is great there, very fancy place. I'm so glad they were able to accommodate us. I have to say, out of the several times I've been there, yesterday's visit was most disappointing. Having driven up from Atlanta to bring my mother there for her 83rd birthday turned out to be far less than expected. We arrived early, and the host offered to seat us early which was appreciated. When we were seated, we were the only table in the porch area. We placed our orders at 4 pm. As we sat there the other tables were seated and eventually filled. We were still waiting for our food as we watched ALL the other tables begin to eat. Some finishing and the tables turned over while we were still waiting. Eventually after an hour and 15 minutes we received our entrees. My fish was cold. No I didn't ask to send it back because our waiter never returned to check on us and I didn't want to risk another hour+ wait. After finishing our meals we waited again until I finally flagged down someone to please send our waiter over with the check. I ate here with a large wedding party and really enjoyed the food and drinks! The good. We had 2 servers for about 35 people but they handled it very well and got our orders taken quickly and efficiently. I tried the maple old fashioned which was amazing! For dinner I had the calamari appetizer and the swordfish. The swordfish was cooked nearly perfectly and the au gratin potatoes were very good. My daughter had the sirloin and my other daughter had the open face reuben. Both of them enjoyed their meal and said "5 stars"! The bad. The service was slow. We had 35ish people BUT this was planned well in advance so its not like we caught the restaurantoff guard.. 2 servers was not enough to keep up, though they did a really good job and very extremely pleasant. The food and drinks took quite a while to come out as well. It seemed that most things were coming out for 10-12 people at a time so I don't know if that was the bar and kitchen or the servers (likely the servers). The ugly. The quality of the food and drinks were top notch and deserve 5 stars, the speed of the service was pretty slow and deserves 4 stars. If you're in town and want a quality meal ($30-50 per person), I would definitely check out the Sherwood Inn! 4.5 stars!! Beautiful place. Our server was very sweet and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. We had lunch Kettle fries. Bleu cheese. Bacon and chives. Delicious An open faced Reuben sand which with german potato salad A turkey melt with bacon and cranberry aioli and sweet potato fries. Very very good Def go back. The Sherwood Inn has been around forever! I grew up going there and don't recall how it was all those years ago but I do know that it is a place I love going to at least 1-2 times a week for a cocktail, some wine, or to belly-up to the bar for a casual lunch or dinner. The staff is one of the main draws for me. They're awesome! They all have differing personalities which is a plus. Depending on the mood you're in, you've got someone to talk to or not. ;-) Love this team! The ambiance hasn't changed much in decades and that is fine with me. It's dark, comfortable, and always warm enough. In fact, be VERY prepared in the winter months to sweat your ass off if you're over dressed; more so as the masses start to gather... I run warm so this is just my personal observation but there is also a slightly older crowd that tends to dine here so maybe management has been "encouraged" to pump up the heat. Some exceptional things to eat there will be their burger (outstanding!), the French Onion soup (the best I've ever eaten....anywhere), the scallops that are always perfectly cooked, and seasonal dishes and fish/seafood are always great. I've had kitchen mishaps before here but nothing to complain about in the big picture. If there is an issue, the staff always makes it right. The Sherwood is a classic and part of the very fabric of Skaneateles itself. If you are visiting, this is a must-go-to. Salute! read more

First: if you want a nice place to eat with a view of the water, Sherwood is tough to beat. Yes, it's a tad pricey BUT EVERY top eatery is going to be pushing the dinner budget to the limit. Service was excellent from reservations to waitstaff (thank you Jada, our very sweet waitress!). We ordered the Delmonico steak and the Duck. Now, I love a well-prepared Duck breast so it's hard to be objective here. If I had to take points off from perfection, it comes down to preference: I like Hot dinners. The Duck was served warmish with chilled quinoa and a tepid reduction. I'm guessing it had been through the sous vide well before we arrived. Just a guess. The Delmonico was the best we've had outside of The City: perfectly cooked and subtly seasoned served with truly outstanding fries. The Ceaser salad was spot on. House bread was decent. Now normally we don't do desserts but we had to try the odd toffee sponge cake delight. Excellent sweet and smoky finish! So, if you want a nice place to show off the Finger Lakes charm to your out-of-town guests, impress your Great Aunt Clara from Scarsdale, or butter up a client, Sherwood is a pretty good place to do it. read more

Always like to go to the Sherwood for special occasions. Or rather we used to! Place is kept in tip top shape and has been for the past 40+ years. But food choices and prep have slipped seriously. Great for bigger groups/events but for an intimate dinner-- fuhgeddaboutit! There was 2 of us and we were in and out just under 2 hours. The wait wouldn't have mattered as much if her chicken wasn't tough and dry and my duck had some heat in it. The waitress did comp me my second glass of house cabernet and apologized for the slow service. I hope this was not a harbinger. Also, the sister place across the street- Bluewater Grill is still a great spot: more casual and great staff with good bistro fare! read more

I'm assuming there is much better competition in a town like that. The ambiance gets it to three stars ... but a $600 dollar a night Inn's restaurant should be MUCH better than this. Kendra was excellent. But they didn't have white broccoli and I ordered chocolate lava cake and she brought me 2 dozen steamed mussels instead. Shelly kept stoking the fire which was a nice touch. The chef made up a random name for the honey they put on the Brie cheese (apple galang or something) but either way it was the bomb diggity. It was a Tuesday afternoon and we opened a tab at the bar due to the 37 second wait, which was not exactly convenient. But due to Kendra's over attentiveness, we always had full drinks. We took an uber home. Pot roast was never ending, Scrod was perfectly cooked and served (annoyingly), and the view was spectacular. When I go out on a Tuesday afternoon I want cranky servers, sub-par food, empty glasses, and overpriced meals. Five stars on the technicality of being amazing. read more

it was my birthday, and it took us well over an hour to get our food after ordering, (we didn't order anything crazy, just sandwiches, scallops and a salad!) as well as other people in the restaurant. My mom had ordered the roast beef and it was basically a congealed mess with burnt bread the first time around, and they did replace it, but it was only marginally better. However, she was starving, so she ate it anyway. My dad said his meal was the worst he'd ever had there in all his years of living in Syracuse and unless there are drastic changes, we will not be back. Also, spending over $40 for a handful of scallops and a few tiny pieces of broccoli thrown on a plate, was ridiculous. It's a shame really as it's such a beautiful location, and we were hoping to location scout it for a shoot, but definitely don't want to promote a location that we can't recommend for cuisine. Also, when we let the server know, we were waiting for over an hour for our food, she said we were the next table up (what does mean, exactly?) and made a comment about the weather, as if to change the subject, which was thoroughly not appreciated. read more

Wonderful evening with my family. Had a candlelit dinner on a busy Saturday night. Restaurant was full, but not noisy. My table was sat right away by very kind Hosts and our server Katrina did not miss a beat even though she seemed to be running the whole dining room. We were in awe of the whole process of the night. Had anniversary dinner there recently. Usually service and food are top notch, but as other reviews have noted, somewhat disappointing. Dinners were tepid and portions considerably smaller; almost better to have gone to the tavern for an equivalent dinner and less price. Wait staff was pleasant but overwhelmed as it appeared that she was relatively new or summer help. Didn't send anything back as wait would have been an issue. Hopefully the Inn will use the reviews to improve service and food. We'll be back, but other Skaneateles restaurants are now a better choice for us. read more

Good to see that the cuisine is as timeless as the inn itself. I worked here for a summer in high school, and it's great to see the pub side of the inn still has a great feel, any weather, and delicious food. Came here on a rainy Saturday and were sat in the front right away. I would've been happy with any seat, but the front seats that look on the lake front really are special. Our server was fantastic. Kept the bread and water coming, and was very knowledgeable about wine pairings. While the specials and the rest of the menu of course sounds and is good, I had to make sure we got the rueben and the yankee pot roast with french onion soup. It tasted as good as it did 20 years ago when I worked there. Delicious french onion soup, such an amazing amount of cheese, and using the baguette for the crouton is an excellent execution. The yankee pot roast is one of my favorite dishes. Delioush amounts of beef, amazing gravy over tasty potatoes and with root veggies. Just a perfect dish for a cold fall or winters night. The rueben is so much meat and cheese over a giant piece of bread with that perfect char on the cheese. With the pickles on the side, it jsut doesn't get better! read more

Sherwood inn was perched in the most pristine spot in the beautiful town of Skaneateles. The windows open, and sun setting, the evening was gearing up to be one for the memory books. Waitstaff was attentive and honest - giving suggestions when asked, and seemed to love their jobs. Crab cake - probably best I've ever had - pepper aioli and diced sweet peppers underneath. French onion soup - cheesy, crispy, not overwhelming nor especially noteworthy. Out of baked potatoes (at 7pm on sat). Prime rib was nice and tender - we had to ask for a jus and horse radish. Disappointed in dry mashed potato's - no butter or gravy and dry broccoli. Triple berry tart and delicious wines definitely made the night!! read more

Bread & drinks served quickly, salads, as well. Meals were a little slow, but delicious, I had the best steak I'd had in a long time. A few of us had dessert and coffee to end the meal which was also delicious. It's a little pricey, but honestly for what you get in the food, service, and ambience I feel it's worth it.
