Our favorite Korean BBQ place this side of the globe. This is a good spot close to the I5 freeway. Good pit stop to let traffic pass by. 1). Food. One thing I like about this place is the quality of meats. Its better than the other Korean BBQ joints we've been to. They also have various levels of orders. We go for the most basic one as it has the basics that we like such as beef belly, beef brisket, and beef bulgogi. - the brisket and belly is better than most BBQs. Good quality meat and very generous servings. - the bulgogi is very tasty here. We order the mushrooms, onions, and garlic and cook it on the aide of the bulgogi. Maybe thats why its good. Just the right amount. 2). Customer Service. Attentive, helpful. We never have problems here. - TIP. We frequently ask to change the pan. The waiters are very helpful here. 3). Atmosphere. Small location and not well ventilated. You can expect to smell like BBQ after you have dined here. It can also get very busy so check when the busy times are. 4). Others. Located in a very busy plaza so you may run out of parking. Very to I5 so swing by here when traffic is tough. Highly recommended place but not the best that we have tried. Overall, the service wasn't that great and the food was ok. Weirdly, the bulgogi and other marinated meats were pretty meh. The brisket and plain meats were a lot better, so go for those. The variety of side dishes we got also seem less than other AYCE kbbq places. We went on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was obviously understaffed. My wife, family, friends and I have been coming here for years. This place is amazing. If you're looking for a quiet, fancy place...... this isn't for you. If you want tasty food, good fast service at a reasonable price...... come here. I've been to this restaurant several times, but have never written a review. I will start off by saying that the food is absolutely delicious. Truly, it's really great. It's why we keep coming back. Especially for takeout. HOWEVER. The service at this particular location is some of the worst service ever. The wait is always super long and when you do get seated, you'll be sitting there for a while before they come to take any orders. Once you get a waitress, you kinda have to extra order because they won't stop by for a long time in between plates. You have to flag someone down almost every time you need something because they rarely check on you. Tonight, we decided to go to the Irvine location for my daughter's 9th birthday. It's closest to our house and it's a school night. We normally go to Shik Do Rak for date night, but we thought my 9 year old would get a kick out of the experience. I put our party in through the waitlist feature through the Yelp app, which was actually pretty helpful. I never used it before and to my surprise it worked out well. My family arrived early and we were seated in decent time because of the waitlist feature. Off to a good start. They seated us and then just left us there for about 20 minutes. No water, no orders, no waitress. Finally someone showed up and brought water. I told the waitress we were ordering the most expensive option and that we had two children under 12. My oldest daughter is the one that turned 9 today. My other one is 7 and a few days shy of turning 8. My daughter is a big kid, but not giant or adult-sized by any means and is still clearly a child with a child-sized appetite. I know for a fact the age limit for kids is age 12. I kid you not, the waitress looked at my 9 year old and was like "No, you pay full price for this one. She so big and will eat too much. You pay full price." My daughter, on her birthday, overheard and immediately was super sad that the lady was basically calling my daughter fat. She charged us $38 for a 9 year old to eat a child's size portion and almost made her cry. The only reason I didn't make a scene was because my dad swooped in and took the situation off my hands so I could distract my kiddo. I for sure will never bring my kids back to the Irvine location again. I'm still so angry about it. The food was tasty as usual (at least they get the food right). The only thing was they serve pork and beef on the same plate at this location which isn't technically food safe. I forgot that this one does that for some stupid reason and accidentally ordered a beef and pork dish at the same time. One of those reminders that the Garden Grove location is so much better. They also just kept forgetting about us. They forgot dishes we ordered and beverages, cups, sauces, utensils... maybe if they actually wrote stuff down, it might help? Overall, we were able to turn the experience around into a positive one. My kids had fun, my parents liked the food. My ex-husband ate a bunch of shrimp and my fiancé enjoyed his favorite dishes (finger meat and beef tongue)... but I'm torn with this place, because the food is honestly great, but the staff just sucks. I wish I weren't so, but it is. My fiancé is obsessed so we'll probably keep going to the Garden Grove spot... but it will be a very long time before I give the Irvine location another chance. The best tips I have are: -Go to Garden Grove if you have time. That location is soooo much better in every way. -Order beef products first, then pork separately. Do not order them at the same time. -Consider ordering to-go and cooking the food yourself at home. It's actually super fun and we did this regularly during early covid. -Order multiple plates at the same time. -The $38 service isn't worth it. Especially for large tables. The $25 service gets you almost as many options. You basically are paying $13 extra for shrimp and "bleh" quality ribeye. Not worth it. -Brisket Sauce is great, most of the time you have to ask for it. -Be careful when walking through the restaurant, the floor is incredibly slick. read more

What started out to be a really pleasant experience ended up being a terrible one. We started out with a really wonderful server, Rudy, who was super efficient in getting our meats, our rice, and everything else we needed. After we ordered and were served our second round of meat, Rudy notified us that we were going to be helped by another server. We never saw our other server once after that. Our dishes piled up on the edge of the table, we couldn't ask for a refill on our water, nothing! Only when my boyfriend stared down one of the waitresses walking by, did she ask if we needed anything. She didn't ask if we wanted more of the appetizer dishes, if we wanted water, a grill change...nothing! She just asked about meat, and as soon as we told her our meat order, she left without us being able to ask for anything else. Also, as with any Shik do Rak, my boyfriends egg pot was completely forgotten. He wants it at the start of the meal, not when we are almost done eating and he's too full to eat it. If the entire meal was like it was at the start, we would go back. I have been going here for years! I have tried every other kbbq place in Irvine and this one has the best meat. Doesn't have a lot of fancy sides which imo is good because they focus a lot of time on the meat. Not the best service, but not worst. If you are looking for a place to come check to make sure everything is going well every 5-10minutes then lower your expectations or go to a different kbbq place. The servers normally pay attention the food on your stove to indicate if they need to come by your table, so make sure you ask for any sides, sauces, or refills then. I will also say that they seem to be trying to up their service by using yelp reservations instead of a sign in sheet. This is the only reason why I am leaving a review right now. read more

They helped a lot with cooking also. You can take home any cooked meat.. and if they're nice, extra sides also. After being in quarantine for 3 months now I was craving some Korean BBQ. My first thought was to go to Zion and buy some meat to cook at home but the line was huge and I didn't want to risk it. Having been to shindorak before for ayce kbb, I decided to order take out from this place. Whoa, they exceeded my expectations. Ordering on the phone was easy and I got my food in time. But the reason why I'm taking the time to write this review is because when I got home, I was amazed by how well this place did. Did not skimp out in the side dishes, the meat was plentiful and the taste was just right. I got the two meat combo with an extra meat on the side thinking it wouldn't be enough for 2 adults 2 children. Well, I have leftovers now and I can't wait to eat this again for dinner. So what I'm saying is that this place really adapted well to the situation and exceeded my expectations as far as quality, quantity, service and affordability. Great service! Not only was it a Saturday night, it was an even more enjoyable dinner with my family. I have to thank our server, Victor!! He was easy to talk to, attentive, quick to get what we needed and was polite. For it being a Saturday, you know Shik Do Rak can get super busy with lines out the door. This has nothing to do with the food, but policy. I was in the area and wanted to stop in for AYCE since it's been so long. When I arrived, I was told "We don't do AYCE for one person." This was even after the waitlist allowed me to check in at one person. Policies are fine, but please post this somewhere conspicuous.
