I had a very unpleasant experience at this bar. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and the bartender told me they offered several different bourbons for the drink. Since I wasn't familiar with the differences between the options, I simply asked which one was more popular and what the differences were. Instead of giving a recommendation or answering the question, the bartender responded with an attitude that came across as condescending and dismissive. He then started laughing and exchanging looks with another customer sitting at the bar, as if it was amusing that I was asking a basic question about the menu. I've ordered Old Fashioneds many times before at different bars. I wasn't asking how to order the drink--I was asking about the bourbon options they offered. A bartender's job is to help customers navigate the menu, especially when they have questions. The entire interaction felt unprofessional and unnecessary. Despite the experience, I still left a tip, but it definitely left a bad impression and made me not want to order from the Bar while waiting for BBQ. read more

I have been dining at this location since it first opened in Irvine, and for a long time it was easily my favorite KBBQ spot in the area. The quality of the barbecue and the overall experience initially set a very high standard for me. Unfortunately, over the past few years, I have noticed a steady decline in both the food quality and the level of service. After my last three visits, it no longer feels like the experience justifies the price point. I understand that inflation has impacted restaurant costs everywhere, and I do not mind paying more for quality. However, when a dinner for two exceeds $200, customers naturally expect attentive service, consistency, and portions that reflect the cost. What disappointed me most was the noticeable reduction in the side dishes and the overall hospitality during recent visits. On one occasion, I asked for rice and was told the restaurant had run out entirely, which was honestly surprising for a Korean restaurant. Small details like this significantly affect the dining experience, especially at this price range. It is unfortunate because this used to be one of my favorite places to recommend in Irvine. With so many excellent and newer KBBQ options now available in the area, I will likely start exploring other restaurants moving forward. I truly hope management takes customer feedback seriously and works toward restoring the quality and service that originally made this place stand out. read more

The hype is real! After hearing so many people rave about this place, I was able to finally try it out for myself. It did not disappoint. Came on a weeknight for two and did not have to wait (major plus). We got the small beef combo, which our server mentioned was good for two. I preferred this option because I typically eat mostly beef at kbbq, and specifically the brisket. Also came with marinated boneless short rib, and choice of ribeye or boneless short rib (we got the ribeye because it already came with the marinated short rib). Let me tell you - this is QUALITY. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The corn cheese and other side dishes were also good. Got a side order of Hodong Ramen as well, but it was basically just a pack of instant spicy ramen noodles, so I wouldn't get this again. Been thinking about going back ever since, and might have to make another trip real soon. Spacious seating arrangement inside, good service (they cook for you), and parking was not an issue when I went. read more

This place has been a staple in Irvine for a while now, and for good reason. It is hands down my first choice whenever I'm craving Korean BBQ. The quality of the meats is consistently excellent, and they offer a fantastic variety of banchan (side dishes) that are both fresh and flavorful. This is one of a few Baekjeong's, located in Irvine. The experience is great from what I can tell, Frank was such a good server for our table! The ambiance and atmosphere is definitely just a laid back and casual type of establishment, but the meat quality and service is top tier. I've gone twice now and tried different combos from the menu both times, and both didn't disappoint me in quality and juiciness. Besides the combos you can get, which all have great meats, they have a variety of appetizers, such as beef tartare, kimchi pancakes, and more to choose from, as well as a lunch box, which was pretty good and they shake it for you to mix everything. I'd definitely recommend trying Baekjeong if you're looking for a slightly more elevated version of KBBQ where you have the meat cooked for you. But the service is what stood out for me - Khue took care of us from beginning to end with a positive attitude and smile. He cooked our meats to perfection. The meat quality can be a bit different depending on the cut/and time but they're willing to change it for you as long as you're good with the right pieces. I would say 2 people get the combo and you'll have plenty of good! It's a place to drink and hang out with friends not so much a place with family and kids on weekends! Tasty food and great service at this Korean BBQ. Had a large party which allowed us to order a beef combo and pork combo. Different cuts of beef and pork to chow down on. I enjoyed the beef brisket and pork jowl the best. The server is always coming by to check on our grill meats. It was basically table side service for cooking. The side dishes included cheesy corn and egg that I cooked next to the grill meats. The restaurant is busy and loud. So be prepared to do a bit of shouting to talk over the sizzling meat and music. Prefacing this review by mentioning we visited due to the new Resy partnership - had it not been for that i'd have been a lot more disappointed for the price. Not a terrible experience, just not worth it overall. Food (2/5) - the set menus are a bit underwhelming so we ordered some a la carte items that are pretty staple like beef tongue, short rib, beef belly, and even sides like the hot stone bibimbap. presentation was superb, but unfortunately the best thing we ate the entire night was the banchan (can i buy a jar of the kimchi here? why are all the sides so good lol) the server overcooked the meats a bit and even ones we snagged early were a bit dry and flavorless. the grill features trays to hold cooked egg, corn cheese and cooked meats which is super neat but they overcook fast. nothing stood out on the menu to order that didn't seem insanely expensive, and what was supposed to be staple items were not worth the price either. Service (3/5) - Service here IS fast and they do a great job zipping around cooking for everyone, food comes out fast too. Docking points here and also ambiance because I had to ask the poor servers to repeat themselves a thousand times because of how loud it is in this place. Am I at a nightclub or a restaurant? I can't even hear the people at my table talking, that's a bit excessive. Also we didn't get napkins until like 15 mins into our meal Ambiance (3/5) considering what's mentioned above being a bit ridiculous, the overall setup of this restaurant is great. Comfortable, spacious booths with great ventilation. Huge dining area laid out well, no cramped spaces and the bar looks nice. Just need to consider a key concept of going out to dinner with people is not only eating but also socializing, which I can't seem to do with a live concert happening above my table. parking sucks as this plaza is a bit stacked with popularity. Overall this isn't a place i'd recommend, and couldn't justify returning to for how expensive it was for what was offered. Not terrible, not inedible, just not memorable. read more
