One of the better smokehouses I've been to in Orange County, although admittedly, there aren't a ton of BBQ spots in OC to begin with. The location is a huge plus. It's part of what seems to be a growing entertainment/retail complex, with a boba shop already there and some other cool businesses forthcoming. There's also a massive outdoor patio with tons of seating and play areas, which makes this a great spot if you have kids. I appreciate that the meat comes without BBQ sauce. You can grab whatever sauces you want from the condiment station and add them yourself, which I much prefer over having the meat arrive drenched in sauce. Brisket -- 7/10 Unfortunately, my brisket that day was a little tougher than I would've liked. Maybe I just got a leaner cut and should've asked for something fattier? I'm not entirely sure, because I've seen their brisket on TikTok and the pieces literally look like they're falling apart. Green Curry Sausage -- 9/10 Phenomenal. Super flavourful and incredibly unique. The green curry flavour works surprisingly well with the sausage, and I wish I'd ordered another link. Beef Bone -- 8/10 I'll admit, I was gawking a little bit at the price when I ordered this. Then it came out and I immediately understood why. This thing is massive. The meat was really well cooked, flavourful, and had an excellent ratio of fat to actual meat. Beef Tallow Fries -- 9/10 Crinkle-cut fries with a noticeable beef tallow flavour. They had the perfect amount of crispiness without being greasy, and they were a fantastic addition to the meal. Sesame Slaw -- 9/10 Honestly, one of the better coleslaws I've had. Refreshing, acidic, savoury, and umami. It hits a lot of different notes and was actually a really nice contrast to all the rich BBQ.

The hottest new restaurant in Orange County. Multiple friends have been asking if I've had Smoke Queen. Looks like I was late to the game because they have been famous with articles from Eaters Magazine LA and The New York Times about Chef Winnie Yee, the Pit Madam. I think this is a new location they expanded to in the Cottage Industries newly developed area in Garden Grove. There is a small private lot off 9th street, but it's usually full, so you can find additional parking off 8th or 7th street nearby. I was helped by Swarna and she was so friendly, courteous and helpful. My boyfriend and I wanted to try a little bit of everything so we ordered 1/2 lb Brisket ($19), 1/2 lb Siu Yuk ($16), 1 Green Curry Sausage ($9), Mac and Cheese ($8), Tallow Fries ($8), and a Regular Fountain Drink ($3.50). We took the food togo, but everything tastes fresh and delicious. It did not affect the quality of the food. The one feedback I would like to give the restaurant is that it seems a bit stingy to only give us only one of each sauce when we ordered 3 meats. I didn't see this until we got home or I would have asked for more. It's hard to say which one was my favorite because both the brisket and the siu yuk were good. It was not only the flavor but the quality of the protein. The green sausage was a really nice fusion execution of a traditional American barbecue item. The sides were less exciting. I ate them and they were average but I don't feel like they live up to how great the proteins were. I would definitely order different sides the next time I come back. A great execution from Chef Winnie's Asian background in perfect harmony with American barbecue. I'll definitely be back!

Very unique! A good balance between tex mex bbq and Asian flavors! Very busy with customers but the line went by fast and the food came out fast and hot! Plenty of seatings. Great outdoor seatings. Great to be out here on a Sunday afternoon enjoying the fresh air and great bbq! Would definitely come back and bring some people!

Made the drive from LA and it was so worth it. The meat was tender and juicy. Loved all the different variety of meats and sides. I had a party of 3 and got the 4 meats and sides. It was plenty of food, more than enough for all of us and pretty affordable I'd say for barbecue. My favorite meat would probably be the crispy pork or brisket. Best side was the sesame slaw, fresh and helps cut the fats from all the meat. The cornbread was a tad dry but the butter helped out. Fries were also just alright, would've chosen something else. Also really like the outdoor seating idea but realistically, during summer... the flies and the heat are unbearable. Wished there was an indoor option.

Our first time visiting Smoke Queen Barbecue, and we were so excited to finally try it! We had no problem finding parking, and when we walked in around 11:30 AM on a Wednesday, there was no line. We were greeted right away with friendly service. I was convinced I was starving and almost ordered the family meal! Then I remembered it was only the three of us, and since we're visiting from out of town, we couldn't take leftovers back to our hotel. We ended up ordering two bento boxes, and it was more than enough for me, my husband, and My Daughter. Everything was absolutely delicious! The brisket literally melted in my mouth, the crispy pork was perfectly cooked, and every side was just as impressive. The dirty rice, coleslaw, and cornbread were all incredible! One thing we really loved was the outdoor seating area. It was spacious, inviting, and had such a great setup for relaxing and enjoying a meal. It made the whole experience even better. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town. Highly recommend if you're looking for amazing BBQ and a great atmosphere!

Unique bbq place with a Asian flair, vibe is super nice with good outdoor seating. Smoke queen is located in garden grove there is a small lot but plenty of street parking. Line was fairly long when we came but food came out super quickly after ordering. We got the brisket, cole slaw, pork bowl, and pandan pudding, Brisket (8/10)-good Smokey flavor some part were tender some parts were juicy! Cole slaw (7/10)-fresh veggies but nothing special dressing was sesame flavor Pork bowl (8.5/10)-chashu was fatty and tender not overly salty! The crispy one was a bit bland but good crunch, coconut rice was well flavored Pandan pudding (7/10)-wish it had more crunch but large portion for $10 easily share between 4 people slightly too sweet Overall some dishes were a miss but others were a hit. We also had beer and was super refreshing under the hot weather. Would love to try the ribs my next visit!

How could I have never realized that Winnie from BBQ Brawl is the literal Smoke Queen? So glad I finally tried it because wow what an creative way to do barbecue. The sauces you can get on the side were SO yummy. Our favorite had to be the gochujang one. We ordered online for to-go, but there is no online order for the weekend. Also looked like the outside seating was the way to go. I wanted to try everything so we got: - Canton Bowl (4/5): I think because we got to to-go for home, the crispy part of the siu yuk was kinda hard. But the char siu was so soft and tender. The sauce that it came with is a bit strong but with moderation and the rice it pairs so well. - 3 Meats Bento Box (5/5): Perfect for the value and to try a lot of the meats. The cornbread that it came with is perfect. No notes. The slaw kind of reminded me of like a sesame ginger salad. We got the sausage, wagyu tri tip, and ribs. I liked them all, ribs were fall of the bone. Wagyu melted in your mouth tender. Sausage had a little spice and a bite to it. - Churros (5/5): So crunchy and the ube sauce was not too sweet. - Pandana Pudding (4/5): Pandan flavor was a little too lacking here. But the pudding itself had good consistency. I can't wait to come back to try more! I can see how parking can get a little difficult during busy hours, so be prepared.

I've been wanting to try Smoke Queen forever and then my friends invited me to join them so I could only respond with a YES! We got a family plate and it was plenty for the 3 of us to share. The meats were so flavorful and tender! The dirty rice is not to be missed! I could eat a quart of that rice! The tallow fries are bomb!!! I kept eating them even after I was full! I had the strawberry lemonade and it was absolutely refreshing on a warm summer day! Nice strawberry chunks too! We finished with the Pandana pudding which was awesome! We kinda freaked out with the seating arrangement as we walked out from ordering trying to find a spot. Fortunately we sat with another couple at their table. Then when we were done and went to the restroom we saw all the rest of the seating area haha. On another note the restrooms were very clean and well maintained! Such a great concept!

Brisket 1/2 lb Dirty Rice Mapo Chili Char Siu 1/2 lb
    Michelle K.

I came here with my friend. He ordered the items. I was surprised by the mapo chili. It tasted great with the dirty rice. My favorite was the brisket with the pickled onions. The other one was very good too but not quite sure which fried food item it was, but overall everything tasted great! It was still even yummy the next day I had the leftovers. Its pricey for sure and parking sucks but if you have this place on your bucket list, then definitely try it out. Just beware, the mapo chili is very oily greasy. Thats why it was good with the dirty rice, it helped absorb the oil. Service was ok. You don't have servers. You stand in line to order, they give you a buzzer to let you know when food is ready for you to pick up. You self seat. Utensils, Drinks and condiments are self serve as well. Depending on the day, its nice sitting out doors if there's some shade and nice breeze.

Had high hopes for this place but it was just alright. We got the brisket ($19), mapo chili ($9) and char sui ($15). Its in a pretty cute area with a nice outdoor area and tons of outdoor seating. Parking was horrible but we got lucky and found a spot. The meats were served with an amazinggggg gochujang bbq sauce. That sauce was good. The food came out pretty soon after ordering, and its enough to feed 2 people, we finished everything. The mapo chili was interesting, i dont recommend it though. Really hated the amount of oil floating on the top, that was crazy. The chili was also 95% meat. I thought it wouldve had more veg or maybe tofu or something but no, its like almost alllll meat. So the side to our bbq meats was more meat. It wasnt bad but it was neither mapo tofu or a chili. The brisket was okay. One of the pieces was dry, the other ones were better. It was good with the sauce. The pork belly char sui had great flavor, but i dont like super fatty cuts and the pork belly was just too fatty for my preference. We def want to try the gochujang beef ribs in the future, but otherwise i probably wouldnt go out of my way to come back. Its a good place for a big group though

Love this place. Great Asian BBQ spot with plenty of seatings in the back. Love the layout of their backyard. Very cool and unique dining area. Being here for the first time, the staffs are friendly and helpful in explaining our order. After looking at what they have, we decided on the 3 Meats Bento Box. The 3 meats we selected were 4 oz Brisket, 4 oz Char Siu, and 4 oz Siu Yuk. The Bento Box also came with Sesame Slaw, Dirty Rice, and Cornbread. There is a condiment station where you can get their Gochujang and House BBQ Sauces. The Brisket was quite good as well as the Char Siu. Didn't like the Siu Yuk that much since it's mainly fat and hardly any meat on it. The House BBQ sauce was perfect. The Gochujang BBQ sauce was a bit spicy. Cornbread was good. Sesame Slaw and Dirty Rice were ok. Had a great time dining here. Love the food and the backyard sceneries. Highly recommend.

I loved everything I ordered!!! - Mac and cheese w brisket - canton bowl - Bbq sando pit madam - tallow fries They have their house bbq sauce and a gochujang sauce, but I think their house bbq sauce steals the show. Their tallow fries are also a must-get. Try to come with a couple of people so that you can try everything!

    4 Meats & 4 Sides Family Meal

Smoke Queen Barbecue had been on my list for quite some time because of its Asian-inspired approach to barbecue, so we finally decided it was time to give it a try. With our order totaling over $180, we were excited to sample a wide variety of dishes from the menu. Everything arrived surprisingly quickly and was carefully packaged to prevent spills during transit. We opted for the 4 Meats and 4 Sides Family Meal, along with the Green Curry Sausage, Pit Madam BBQ Sando, and a side of Spicy Cucumbers. Although the family meal is marketed as a value option, many of the meat and side selections carried additional upcharges, causing the total to climb much higher than expected. **Siu Yuk: 5/5** This was one of the highlights of the meal. The crispy pork belly was reminiscent of the siu yuk I grew up eating from traditional Cantonese barbecue shops, featuring an incredibly crunchy, crackling skin that contrasted beautifully with the succulent layers of pork and rendered fat beneath. **Char Siu: 3.5/5** The char siu was well-seasoned with a savory-sweet glaze, while its nicely caramelized edges added a subtle hint of smokiness. Unfortunately, the cut we received was noticeably fatty, causing the richness to become a bit overwhelming after a few bites. **Char Siu Burnt Ends: 2/5** This was the item we looked forward to the most, but it ended up being the biggest letdown of the meal. While a few pieces were tender and flavorful, others were extremely dry and overcooked, making the dish frustratingly inconsistent. **Brisket: 5/5** The brisket was exceptionally tender, practically melting apart with each bite while retaining a robust, smoky flavor. Its peppery bark added a pleasant textural contrast while enhancing its savory depth. The accompanying gochujang barbecue sauce was an excellent addition, delivering a balanced sweet-spicy kick that complemented all of the barbecue meats. **Green Curry Sausage: 4/5** The sausage delivered a distinctive smoky flavor that paired beautifully with the aromatic green curry seasoning, while a warming kick of spice added another layer of complexity. My only complaint was that the casing lacked a crisp snap, which left the texture slightly softer and less satisfying. **Pit Madam BBQ Sando: 3/5** The sandwich featured a combination of brisket, pulled pork, pork belly, and sausage, coming together in a hearty medley of smoky, savory barbecue flavors. The sesame coleslaw provided a bright, refreshing crunch that helped cut through the richness of the meats. Unfortunately, the brioche bun was extremely dry, which detracted from the sandwich and made it less enjoyable overall. **Mapo Chili: 1/5** Overwhelmingly oily yet oddly watery, the sauce lacked the signature numbing mala flavor typically associated with traditional mapo. To make matters worse, the ground meat remained surprisingly dry, only adding to the disappointment. **Tallow Fries: 2/5** Despite their satisfying crunch, the fries were rather underseasoned and lacked the characteristic beefy flavor I expected from tallow fries. Instead, they tasted much like ordinary fries, making them feel like a missed opportunity for a specialty side. **Mac and Cheese: 3/5** This side was decent but ultimately unremarkable. Neither the texture nor the cheese flavor particularly stood out, making it feel like a standard mac and cheese. Given the restaurant's inventive approach to barbecue, I had expected this side to incorporate a more memorable twist. **Spicy Cucumbers: 5/5** Without a doubt, this was the best side of the meal. The cucumbers were wonderfully crisp and refreshing, with bright acidity and a subtle kick of spice that made them the perfect palate cleanser between bites of the heavier barbecue. **Pandana Pudding: 3/5** Although enjoyable, the dessert felt somewhat unbalanced, as there was far too much cream compared to the banana and vanilla wafers. With the pandan flavor remaining fairly mild and the banana flavor tasting quite subdued, it never delivered the pronounced pandan-banana profile I was hoping for. Smoke Queen Barbecue's creative fusion of Asian flavors and barbecue is a compelling take on traditional barbecue, and dishes like the siu yuk, brisket, and spicy cucumbers demonstrate the restaurant's potential. Even so, the highs simply weren't enough to outweigh the misses. With such a wide gap in execution from one dish to the next, the overall experience ultimately didn't justify its $180 price point.

My favorite is jajangmyun, the black bean noodles. I love the food, it's a comfort food for me, but I tend to feel a bit of a food coma after a meal here. The criticisms in reviews don't seem fair. Some reviewers write about a rude attitude from employees and a belief that people who speak the Korean language are treated better than those who don't. I've seen people who only speak English and are courteous being treated warmly. Furthermore, the employees here don't miss a beat. The timing of when the entrees arrive to the table after ordering has been consistent over the years. I have not ever waited long for the kimchi, rice, and entrees to arrive, and for our family to be eating. Everything tastes the same as when I first started going decades ago, which is fantastic.

Came back here for a family event. We were a little worried about a long wait and hard parking but…read moregiven the recession-vibes these days, we also weren't that worried. Turns out, it wasn't nearly as crowded as before - though spoiler: the price has increased a lot (I want to say it was $25/lb 10 years ago, and now is $37/lb). Keep in mind too, you can't get a small amount like 1lb - usually it's gonna be 3+lb so your bill is easily going to hit mid-$100 to $200s from the lobster alone. That being said, many people swear this is the best, and that's why they can charge whatever they want. I'm actually allergic to lobster (lol) but am a team player so I just sampled it for the funsies, and had to get another dish to actually eat (went with the beef lok luk). My family said the lobster noodle was good, but not like, fantastic (which we were expecting not fantastic but yeah, mostly came here to a family meeting.) The beef lok luk was also pretty good like, 4.3 of 5 - we just had another version at Paradise which was astounding (like 4.6) though also more expensive and pretty far away. Overall, not sure if we'll come back again as we're more curious about the copycats that have popped up which might be 80% as good and much more affordable. Stay tuned! :)

This helped us get a table much faster than we would have than if we had just shown up and waited. We ordered the large family meal, and there were 12 of us. We also ordered the Newport Lobster, fish fillet with black bean sauce, and an extra shrimp fried rice. Overall, I think the food was good, and the prices are reasonable (except the lobster, which was pricey, as you might expect from anything listed as "market price"). Most of us in the group thought the fish fillet with black bean sauce was the best. I thought it was very good, but not necessarily fantastic. (There are other Chinese restaurants that do it a little better.) The sauce was very good, but the fish wasn't quite as tender as it can be. Definitely a solid 4 stars. Other dishes were good. I think the scallop soup could have been great for some people, but my wife and I both hate cilantro, and there was a ton of cilantro. The pork was also good, and my friends thought the clams were also really good. I found the fried rice a bit bland. And for both the lobster and the crab, they could have made them a little easier to eat by cracking the shells a bit more for us. I hate fighting with my food ... And there was a fair amount of fighting on these 2 dishes. The lobster cost almost much as all the other dishes combined. It certainly looked amazing. And the sauce was very good. But I found most of it a bit overcooked. Maybe it was our fault for asking for a big one. Maybe a smaller lobster might have been cooked a little less. The great sauce (along with the fighting with the shell) might have covered up the fact that the meat was actually a bit tough and rubbery. I don't think I'd order this again. The service was very friendly and pretty fast. And, again, other than the lobster, the pieces were pretty reasonable.

My friends was craving for some house specials lobster and I was craving for honey walnut shrimp. We came around 5pm on a sunday before the dinner rush. A party of 3 we ordered 5 dishes the main 2 dish we came for 1. House specials lobster with noodles 5/5 The house special sauce for the lobster is so good. , the lobster was meaty, noodles smothered in that house special sauce, delicious. 2. Honey Walnut Shrimp 6/5. Ive been craving for this dish for the longest time and it didn't disappoint. The walnut shrimp was fried golden brown delicious, plump shrimp, the sauce was perfect and not overly drenched. The candied walnut nice crunch and sweetness. Definitely hit the spot and satisfied my craving.

Not bad at all. $15.95 it's cooked the same everywhere so if I can get it for a deal, I'm def down! Got the clams also. This dish was plentiful for a lunch special. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing bad at all. Whole fried fish. Man this dish was tiny!!! The fish was tiny!!! It was tasty due to the sauce, but the fish itself was TINY!!! lol 2/5 stars. Everyone orders this but it's just too small for family style meal. House special fish filet. Yeah this was good but I tasted a lot more batter than the actual fish itself. I think seafood cove 2 cooks this better. 2/5 stars for this also Crap asparagus soup. 2/5 stars Naaaah not worth it. Don't order this lol. Save urself the money. Bland and boring. The service was great. They gave us plastic utensils for the kids. And also cups for the kids (styrofoam cups since the kids are messy and tend to drop things) Overall, it's a bit dirty. Parking sucks hardcore. Food is mediocre. But service is good. When you pay, you get oranges as dessert at the end. Seafood cove 2 is def better and plentiful parking compared to this place.

Capital Seafood Restaurant opened at 11am; the wait was well worth it. All three of us loved it. There is a decent size dedicated parking lot just for the standalone restaurant, so was able to find easy parking. We were greeted immediately and directed to a circular booth, giving the three of us plenty of space. The inside space looked recently renovated, with a dedicated banquet room, and two dining hall wings. Hot complementary hot tea was brought for all, and ice water later when I specifically asked for it. Service was excellent throughout. The menu is a book, with the first two pages dedicated to a large lunch menu. Here it doesn't come with any additions (i.e. no soup or egg roll), but white rice is included and served family style. What it does have is a large selection (a whopping 53 different items), including some items I've never seen on a lunch before, all for $13.50. The menu is displayed on the first page (27 items) of the menu book, with the standard vegetarian, chicken, beef, or pork dishes. But by turning the page, one gets to another 26, this time mostly seafood. Many of the items caught by eye. L36 -Ship with Garlic Sauce - it came with big jumbo headless/shell-off shrimp, using a dark pungent sauce that I really liked. Vegetables were green and red peppers, red onions, and a lot of wood ear mushrooms (which I really like). It's a dish I would recommend, especially at this price point. L53 - Pan Fried Whole Fish - didn't really expect much from this, but asked the waitress what type of fish (was expecting tilapia or sway). When she answered 'flounder', I had to try it....and it was much, much better than I expected for the lunch price. It was a WHOLE expertly prepared flounder, with a crisp batter that I enjoyed, and a sweet delicate meat. It came with 2 sauces (soy based, sweet/sour), more for the batter. It was served immediately after it had been prepared. I really loved it, and felt it was a bargain for the price. 90- House Chow Mein HK style ($17) - a disk of deep fried chow mein, topped with a mixture of greens and different meats (including shrimp), in a lighter sauce. It was served immediately after preparation, which allowed us to choose if we want to eat the noodles while still crispy, or let the sauce soak in. Portions are not huge (even for the normal menu item like the pan fried noodles), but very appropriate for the prices. The three of us were able to finish our meal, with no need for take home containers. Soda is only provided from cans ($2.75 each) and I got a bottle of Tsingtao for $5. The check was brought to the table, with a 3% service charge for use of credit card. I enjoy doing a little research about the history of a restaurant like this. On a preliminary scan, there are multiple restaurants with the name of Capital Seafood in the LA/OC area: This location (with the original name of Capital Seafood, having domain of capitalseafoodgg.com) was founded in 1996 by immigrants from Cambodia, and recently was taken over by the original owner's son. There is a different restaurant (also named Capital Seafood, under the Capital Seafood Group in Irvine) running 3 Capital Noodle Bars in Irvine, Costa Mesa, and Brea, along with a Capital Seafood Restaurant in Irvine. This group seems to be related to Kim Tar (a SGV restaurant founded in 1982 in Monterey Park), signifying that they are using those original recipes in their restaurant. This location doesn't seem to be operated by that group, instead run as a separate restaurant. There is also a New Capital Seafood Restaurant in Rowland Heights, which doesn't seem to be operationally related to either one, though most likely branching off at some point. The only thing common seems to be the 'Capital' name (and the assumption that the owners/operators are probably related).

What stood out to me over the Capital Seafood in Irvine was the much friendlier service and the 90s R&B music in the background which was cool. Got the Lobster with house special sauce, Roasted duck with steam buns ($50), and Sautéed Pea sprouts veggies. * The lobster was definitely the star but just know the sauce is very buttery so may try a lighter sauce next time. Also still needed to crack some pieces so hands got really dirty (4/5) . * The duck was unfortunately too dry and tough and skin not so crispy so I will prob skip next time. But portion was good. (3/5) * The peasprout veggies were good and had a nice crunch but needed a little more salt. (4/5) Hot Tea was smooth, seating comfy. Only thing it was freezing cold and they should prob drop the AC a few degrees. The white girl server was super nice and always checked on us. Overall good experience and will be back.
