One of the more cheaper Korean BBQ options in Irvine. Quality of food matches other BBQ places and I personally love the wide variety of banchan (side dishes). Their seaweed and fish cake sides were particularly good. Meat was fresh and I really liked their brisket. I knocked off a star for their service... It took FOREVER. After waiting 30 minutes to get seated, I was starving. However, the table that got seated 5 minutes later got served before we did. It took a good 15 minutes AFTER we placed our order for the meat to come out. By then, we finished off TWO rounds of banchan (yes, we were that hungry!). Requests were ignored more than they were satisfied. No spoon for the kimchi stew, no water after asking MULTIPLE times... it adds up. Overall, the food was good enough that I will return but finding yourself waiting on long periods of time ruins the experience. Loved coming here at first because I felt their service was great and they did a good job at separating customers during covid. Meat selection is small, sides were limited, and you pretty much have to ask for everything since they don't give it to you upfront. You can tell the meat was fresh and not frozen but the limited selection makes you tired of them quickly. We had two people in our group and the first round of meat was normal portion.... we asked for a second round and they doubled up the portions.... it was given by a different waiter since our original one went on break. Obviously we couldn't finish and tried to explain it to our waiter. The waiter was awesome for vouching for us but the manager was pretty strict on the decision even though we explained our situation. We were charged extra but kudos to the the server who was kind and understanding about the situation. Next time, always specify normal portions just in case they give you more meat then you can finish. We will probably come back in the future but won't for a while. Probably gonna check other KBBQ places first. read more

I would leave zero stars if I could. Shik Do Rak was my favorite kbbq restaurant up until I got food poisoning. I'm confident the food here poisoned me, not only me but my whole group. One of my family members even went to the hospital, funny thing was that the receptionist at the hospital even got sick at the same place! DO NOT EAT HERE, if you care about your health. Normally I go to Garden Grove location, but since I was grabbing dinner I stopped by this location to pick up dinner and head home. $80+ order and no hot sauce given, no reason given just we are not giving hot sauce and that's it. Certain ingredients make the meal, this was a disappointment to say the least. I'll stick to garden grove. read more

The Garden Grove one is much better. Or for an AYCE place, I'd much rather go to Gen, where the quality is better. The AYCE choices were so confusing here so we picked the 19.99 one (not the lowest, not the highest). If they had listed the differences on the menu (like they do on the place cards) we could have compared the differences that way. Our waitress started us with the prime brisket, even though we didn't want it. Service was ok. A little bit of attitude, but hey its a KBBQ place. Overall the meat was just ok. Maybe its just me, but the only thing I liked here was the shortrib. Everything else was meh. The marinade was just so so, and the ban chan / side dishes weren't anything special. read more

So happy to find that there's a place in OC that has AYCE during covid. You can typically cook it yourself, but with everything going on, they cook it inside for you and bring it out. Beware; the portions are HUGE! My boyfriend and I only got 2 plates of meat because they were so massive. Ask for 1/2 portions! They have covered outdoor seating in the parking lot! About 12 or so large tables. The service was very friendly...The two servers we're going out of their way to make sure you were happy and if you needed more meats or refills of anything. ...can't beat AYCE for $23 for dinner either. I'm not sure who would joyfully pick this restaurant. From the musty, sweaty, moist meaty air to the very BAD food, this may be the worst kbbq i've ever been to. I would not recommend this to ANYONE. Hopefully, you can find another good dinner spot and avoid going here at all costs. Super cheap but awful quality and terrible wait times. I waited two and a half hours for this terrible food. I used to love this place because of the free dessert! They don't have it anymore. :-( I went here recently an hour before closing and they really rushed us to finish eating, and I think that was extremely rude. We came around 8:45 and they automatically turned off our grill at 9:25. ??? We were still eating and there was a handful of other people eating too??? In my opinion, the discounted menu is really small and I think you can get better quality BBQ and food elsewhere. I also think there is limited banchan. I didn't like this place the first time I had it, but I figured I would give it a second chance since Red Castle in Garden Grove was way too packed. It was a Wednesday night and not too busy since it's finals week at UCI. After 9:15, there's a $15 deal for a pretty small selection. HOWEVER, when I sat down the guy goes "So are you going to do the 10 or 15 menu?" I looked confused and asked him "You guys have a $10 menu?" He didn't respond and my friend asked him to clarify. He could have said "No, either 10 or 15 items. Not dollars." I'm eating my meal and I was pretty satisfied thinking it was $10. Long story short, I was deceived. The quality of meat is not worth the $19 I paid. I would have rather paid 10 more dollars and ate at All That BBQ. For being in Irvine the price is okay, but I would rather pay a little more and get better meat. Or I would just drive to Garden Grove and eat there for $12. I've been here a couple times since they switched to takeout. I've tried the SDS combo and the meal for two and I think the SDS combo is more worth it for two people. Yes, the meal for two has all their sides and radish/rice paper, but the SDS combo gives you more variety in terms of what protein to order. Everything is cooked well, and they include brisket sauce and sesame oil/salt. The rice is well cooked, just wished they included some radish or rice paper. Great place to order from if you're craving KBBQ. This is saying a lot since I don't normally come here for AYCE. The pork toro and beef belly is bomb. Didn't check-in but went again yesterday afternoon. My review is still right on the mark, with this place. It is all about the sides here. Their chili paste is the best around and personally I like it better than GEN. You don't need to worry about bringing your bathing suit for the slip-n-slide, cause the floor doesn't have that layer of grease on it that you can't avoid at GEN. Don't get me wrong GEN is great but this place, especially now that they have REDUCED THEIR PRICES, is the da-bomb. Only thing that could possibly make this place better would be if the wait staff were even just a little friendly. Oh, and don't forget your frozen yogurt on the way out the door. Their yogurt is delicious and just complements the great food. Oh, Oh, but don't stand around and eat the yogurt inside. You must leave and eat it outside or you get scolded. read more

I was on a late night trip back to LA with only a piece of beef jerky as sustenance for the whole day. Luckily I came across Shik Do Rak. We immediately chose the top AYCE option with 30 items for $28.99; it's called the 3-1. We could have easily chosen the 25 items for $20.99 but we didn't want to waste time reading the menu. We sat down in our emaciated state and weakly pointed to the top choice and within seconds banchan (the sides) were at the table, and only minutes later a meat platter was already on the grill. New York, short rib, skirt, brisket, hot pepper paste pork belly, little octopus, and squid all very, very good. In fact we ordered that mass meat platter 3 times! Yeah, you're now thinking I came with a group of people, but it was only two of us and I'm pretty sure we were toe-to-toe with the table of 12. Our waiter was seriously on point. If our grill had a little extra room he would automatically put more meat on it and cut it up. Once we were halfway through eating what we ordered, he would ask what else he could bring out. Once he saw a little crusty burnt build-up on the grill he would immediately change it. During their "last call" he asked multiple times if he could bring anything else out. This dude was a machine!! The restaurant was clean and had good ventilation with exhaust hoods right above the grill. I'll definitely make my way back here but hopefully next time it's before 10:30pm. read more

WHAT HAPPENED SHIK DO RAK???? i have been coming here since i was in high school and through out college i probably went once. now years later i have returned for lunch on a random weekday because i was trying to have lunch with my friend and we found out they had AYCE! for an affordable price. we called and they let us know there is no wait. upon arrival at around 2pm on a thursday there were probably about 7 tables in total being used and we were then seated. there were two servers helping all the tables and the woman helping us was very friendly! however she was very busy so it was hard to get her attention. we also had another male who was efficient and quick in helping us! i would say the main downfalls for this is the grill we had was terrible. it kept going out and probably lost flame 5 times while we were sitting there and also either was too hot or too low and when it was too hot it burned all our meat way quicker than other kbbq places. along with that the servers would come over and try to help but it weirded me out they opened the grill and poured liquid into it. kinda scared me because i didn't want to get lit. also when we did want to get someones attention we turned to click the button for help but found it to be ripped out of the wall!!! :( i miss the old shik do rak, i guess this place has become pretty run down but its still solid for the price. the meats were ok def nothing amazing but if you're wanting to get full off basic kbbq for a cheap price come here but if you're looking for a great experience maybe try a bit more higher priced place. also they got rid of their frozen yogurt after because so many people littered it in the parking lot :( AYCE prices (if you pay cash it is $1 cheaper): 3-4: 10 items - $15.49 CASH & $16.49 CARD 3-3: 15 items - $17.99 CASH & $18.99 CARD 3-2: 25 items - $19.99 CASH & $20.99 CARD 3-1: 30 items - $27.99 CASH & $28.99 CARD aka overall come here for cheap affordable ayce and nothing more! read more

Great service, happy hour after 9:30 is definitely worth the wait, it's under 20 ayce. Finger meat, finger meat, finger meat. Honestly I don't even know what part of the cow finger meat is but it's a perfect blend if soft and meatiness for me. But the number of burners here is still the limiting factor. Came before the dinner rush, but still waited for over 1 hour to be seated. There is a way to potentially get seated earlier by ordering the Prime Combo Special - probably worth it to skip the wait. Ok enough about that... now for the food! Saving grace, the meat quality is was top notch. Usually I stay away from brisket because most places is mostly fat, but not these. All the meats we tried we fantastic. My boyfriend and I are new in the area and decided to try this place out and I was a bit disappointed. The food was good, but I thought it was a little on the pricey side. I go to the one in L.A. called Castle BBQ and it's only $9.99 per person, and you get more choices of meat. We came here on a Monday night and we had to wait for 20 minutes. I give it a 3 since the the service was good and you get free frozen yogurt when you leave the restaurant, i just think it could be better. The place I go to gives you more sides as well. read more

What better way to kick start your birthday than eating copious amounts of MEAT!!! We were able to put our party of 11 down for 5:30 and got in quickly. This place gets poppin' so if you have a big party call ahead... Service was QUICK and we were grilling meat before we knew it! As with a typical Korean meal, you get banchan (side dishes). If you want salad, just ask the waiter as it doesn't automatically come to the table. You can also ask for sliced onions, scallions and mushrooms free of charge to grill with your meat. If you're new to KBBQ, don't be afraid to ask the waiter to switch out your grill. The center hole on the grill can clog up with grease and you don't want to cook your meat in all that grease- EW! Overall, this place was great! The staff was very attentive and kept the meat flowin'. It's not a good experience if you don't get the meat sweats after!!! (hahaha!!) Came here twice within a month and my first experience was god awful. Service was extremely slow, kept forgetting what we ordered, never checked in on us. . . BUT the 2nd time I went, it was completely different. 100 times better than the service we've gotten the first time. All of our sides kept getting refilled, meats were great, our server, Robert kept checking in on us to make sure if we wanted to order anything else. This went from a 1 star to a solid 4. PS.
