Took my friend here for her birthday. You can't help but notice all the high Yelp ratings, so I knew it was an excellent choice. I called the restaurant in advance to ask if I could make a reservation and to please give the check to me, as this friend can be quite stealthy about paying the bill. The lady who answered was most pleasant and accommodating and she mentioned that she would be our server too. The interior looks very similar to when this place was known as Aji. The previous owner had done a remodel before it changed hands so it is much brighter and inviting. We were seated at a booth and the menu is quite intriguing. They offer all kinds of nigiri/sashimi, classic rolls, special rolls, ramen, udon, bento boxes and even a kids menu. I don't eat raw fish so I ordered the green curry ramen which was a beautiful serving with two thick slices of pork, bamboo shoots, and a jammy egg. The broth was not what I expected. Even though the menu says medium spicy, I found it to be a very mild with a thin broth. I really enjoyed the slices of pork. My friend ordered the tempura udon. It was a nice serving of udon with vegetables and her tempura arrived separately on a plate, which we liked. Otherwise, the tempura would get all soggy. She couldn't stop commenting how good everything tasted. The interior is clean and service is outstanding, friendly and helpful. Our server was kind enough to take photos of us. When we arrived home, my friend realized that she had forgotten her leftovers. She was terribly disappointed so I told her to call the restaurant and sure enough, they had saved her leftovers in their refrigerator. What a very kind gesture! She drove back to pick them up and she was elated that they had been saved for her. Thank you Shiki for the nice meal and for saving my friend's leftovers. There are a few tables outside so you could enjoy a meal with your furry friend. Parking is available right outside the restaurant shared with other businesses. read more

I am still completely shocked by what happened at dinner tonight. The four of us went to a restaurant we've visited many times before. My mom loves their poke bowl and always orders it with less rice because she doesn't want to get filled up. Every other time she's ordered it this way, she's received a reasonable amount of rice--less than normal, but still enough for the meal. When my mom's poke bowl arrived, it had almost no rice at all. Since there was barely any rice worth mentioning, she told the waitress about it and asked for some rice to compensate. She was brought a small bowl of rice and added some to her Poke. When the bill came, we noticed she had been charged $5 for the rice. We politely asked the waitress about it. The owner overheard, and interject telling us that because my mom asked for less rice, she received less rice. We explained that wasn't the issue--we were confused about being charged extra for rice when the original portion was so unusually small.....nonexistent. The owner insisted that my mom hadn't asked for "half rice" and then went on to tell us that "you Americans don't understand how poke bowls work." At that point, we were stunned. We tried to explain our concern, but the conversation only became more frustrating. Eventually, I said to forget it and that we would just pay the extra charge. Instead of letting the matter go, the owner brought the chef out of the kitchen to further explain why we shouldn't have expected more rice. It was incredibly insulting and completely unnecessary. She would not stop berating us. We repeatedly asked her to stop, but she continued arguing the point. What should have been a simple question about a side charge turned into a lecture and a confrontation. We finally got up and left. This wasn't about the cost of the rice. It was about the way we were treated. We've been loyal customers for a year since she opened, and I've never experienced anything quite so disrespectful in a restaurant. Shame on you, Yu. Upon entering, you see the restaurant is comfortable and beautifully decorated. That is just the beginning of a wonderful dining experience. Yu, the hostess and waitress ​greets you with a smile and leads you to your table. You feel welcome, as if entering into her home. Since her husband is the owner, that makes perfect sense. The food is excellent with many creative sushi rolls to choose from. The rolls were exceptional and beautifully served. Judging from the quality of the sushi, I'm certain the rest of the menu is just as good. My wife and I love sushi, so our order was focussed on that. My sister was visiting from Germany and she had a great time, too. She is not a fan of the raw, so Yu was able to show her rolls that contained cooked ingredients. We even had an opportunity to talk with Yu about her journey from China to America. How many restaurants do you have an opportunity to talk with the hostess and learn about another culture first hand? Whenever we are back in Santa Rosa, we will definitely stop in and enjoy the Shiki experience. If you enjoy great, creative sushi and other dishes from the Orient, stop in and give Shiki a try. APR2026 Order for takeout. Always looks busy on the inside. We had gotten the futomaki roll, a vegetable dragon roll, a green valley roll, and a bento box with saba and nigiri. Everything was packaged well. I think one of the good things with each of the rolls is that they weren't falling apart while we were eating which was great. The futomaki was a good palette cleanser between rolls with some nice pickled veggies. The vegetable dragon was pretty good but probably would've been better fresh. I didn't get much from the eggplant tempura either and couldn't find it in the roll. The green valley roll was also pretty good as far as balance and the ingredients but the spicy sauce was kind of a miss for me. My partner said the saba bento hit the spot and the nigiri tasty. Pretty solid for takeout. Certainly nice to have a decent option nearby. read more

I just wasn't in love with how they did the sushi. I got a sashimi combo and lemme tell you...the plating was mesmerizing! I won't include the picture because you have to see it live. However, they had a kind of sweet rub on all of the different cuts; it wasn't bad! But just not my cup of tea, because it made all the different cuts taste the same n I wanted to be able to better discern between the types. Our server, Yue, was amazing! she gave us her tips, and helps us curate an absolutely delightful tour of the menu. We started with oysters that were supremely fresh and perfectly shucked - they were also topped with tobiko which was amazing! we followed that up with hamachi, tatake (which was amazing aged toro which was absolutely spectacular!). we also had a delicious hamachi kama! they make their oak soy sauce- and it is delicious - soft and slightly sweet. Restaurant Review After having dined here multiple times since the restaurant opened, we were genuinely taken aback by our most recent visit. From the very beginning, the owner, Yu, seemed unusually curt with us. As the meal progressed, her demeanor became increasingly passive-aggressive, and at times we felt as though we were being treated like "stupid Americans." The interactions were bizarre, uncomfortable, and, frankly, completely uncalled for--especially given that we have been loyal and gracious customers since the restaurant first opened. We have not only returned many times ourselves, but have also brought visiting family members to the restaurant and personally introduced them to Yu. We have always been happy to support the restaurant, so this experience was particularly disappointing and difficult to understand. There was also a separate issue regarding payment. At the beginning of the meal, we asked whether we could have separate checks and were told that we could have a maximum of two, which was perfectly fine. However, when it came time to pay, we were told that we could not use more than one credit card for the transaction. That is not the same thing as splitting the bill into separate checks, nor does it have anything to do with the number of checks requested. The policy and the way it was communicated made an already uncomfortable experience even more frustrating. Overall, the entire interaction felt unnecessarily hostile. The owner's attitude came across as dismissive and, at times, almost as though she was taking satisfaction in making the situation uncomfortable. After being such loyal customers and having recommended the restaurant to family and friends, we left wondering what had happened and why we were treated this way. No words. Just a very disappointing experience from a place we had previously been happy to support. read more

First off, they source high quality fish and it shows. The Tuna and Salmon nigiri were 5/5. The salmon was rich and buttery and melts in your mouth. Smooth and tender not mushy or chewy. They tuna was fresh and not fishy. And the sushi rice was done well. We had a server who was passionate about the food and explained their chef takes pride in his work and is picky about fish quality he accepts. The salmon is Scottish salmon known for its balanced flavor and reliable texture. They would love to provide New Zealand Ora King Salmon, but it would be too pricey. Love that they are open to sharing where they source their fish. I like the updated decor much brighter than before. I also tried their saba and Tekka Maki which I would rate 4/5. We came here during lunch and ordered the 3-item bento box with salmon teriyaki, saba, and tempura. My husband got the lunch saba shioyaki. Both dishes were delicious and served in generous portions. We also ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was okay -- not the best we've had -- but the dipping sauce was really good and made up for it. The miso soup was delicious. The only issue we had was with the pricing. The menu listed the saba lunch special at around $16 and dinner at $20, but we were charged the dinner price. When we brought it up, the staff explained that the menu was from the previous restaurant and hasn't been updated, and that there's no distinction between lunch and dinner portions anymore. In our opinion, that's not fair to the customer -- if the menu is outdated, that should be communicated up front to avoid confusion. Updating the menu should be a priority when taking over a restaurant, especially when pricing changes. So just a heads up: double-check prices when ordering, as the menu might not reflect the current ones. Other than that, the food and overall experience were great! read more

So Sonoma County in terms of how some great eats are occasionally found in nondescript strip malls. Don't let the appearance of the surrounding bus stop and big box retailers fool you. This place is legit. We had to eat and run because we were going to see the Sonoma Symphony perform (follow me for my review on that), but they delivered a great japanese style meal quickly, at the right temperature, and with great flavor and presentation. The miso soup was pure Umami and my Teriyaki Salmon bento box was both generous and delicious. And reasonably priced at $17. My date found her Unagi to be nice and tender. My wife and I had such an amazing dinner at Shiki Sushi! We ordered the bento box dinner with chicken teriyaki and tempura, along with two rolls, the Dragon Roll and the Mango Sorrento, and everything was absolutely incredible. The portions were very generous and all of the food came out super quickly, which we really appreciated. The tempura was perfectly crispy, light, and fresh, and the chicken teriyaki was delicious. You can really tell they care about the quality of their ingredients, especially the fish in the sushi rolls. The Mango Sorrento roll was honestly one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. One of the owners, who was also our waitress, told us specifically not to use soy sauce because the chef prepared the roll to be enjoyed exactly as it was and holy moly, she was right. We absolutely devoured it. The mango sauce was incredible and everything in the roll paired together perfectly. The service made the whole experience even better. The owner chatted with us for a bit, was so sweet and welcoming, and even gave us recommendations for what to try next time. We found grilled chicken in our oyoko don which is quite unusual. The chicken was overcooked, making it dry and tough. The fish in the sushi was mediocre. Other people noticed some fishy smell in the sushi. The fish may not be as fresh as it should be. I would definitely not recommend this subpar Japanese restaurant. read more

The inside ambiance is really nice here! I like the decor and the food is pretty tasty, even if a little small. My suggestion is to eat inside and enjoy the atmosphere. Don't get the food Togo. They charge a $1.50 "to-go" fee and also tax you on top of that. I didn't know this until after I paid. I get home and my order was wrong. I specifically asked for a certain ingredient not to be put in my handroll and they did it anyways. Had I just eaten there I could have sent the item back and had it corrected. WOW! What a great new sushi spot in Santa Rosa! I first noticed the welcoming atmosphere on a chilly evening--it felt so warm and inviting inside. The server (unfortunately I didn't catch his name) took such great care of us. One of our group has a gluten allergy and he reassured her that he would take great care of her.
