Wow! What a menu! They have so many options on their menu, and all my favorites (Japanese and Hawaiian food). I had the Black Garlic Ramen, which was delicious. I like that it wasn't salty! So I'm going to be brutally honest. Asian people are HIGHLY CRITICAL of their food! Asian culture especially Japanese and Korean they want the freshest and the cleanest tasting food. Even some in Chinese cultures this is the same way! I say some Chinese cultures, because there are many in China. Here's a little known secret. If Asian food is excellent, you will see Asian person after Asian person coming into a restaurant. If the food is bad you will see NO ASIANS! I know this because I have Asian family members! If no Asians visit a restaurant, then the owner of that restaurant is usually catering to one cultural demographic. It's usually a demographic that goes after food quantity rather than quality! So this cultural demographic is usually not concerned how the food tastes. This was the case with Kyoto Sushi Ramen and Hawaiian Barbecue. This place is like a Chinese persons take on what Japanese food should taste like. Honestly, I'm not even Japanese. It was terrible. I believe it was a Chinese restaurant. It sounded like they were speaking Mandarin. However, to clearly say I'm not against a Chinese person making another cultural dish. As long they treat the cultures dishes with respect. This was not the case at Kyoto Sushi Ramen and Hawaiian Barbecue! I ordered Gyoza it was slightly burnt on the outside and doughy as if undone on the inside with low grade chicken meat inside used. It was like they cooked the Gyoza fried dumplings in an air fryer! I then ordered their Vegetable Ramen. It tasted like the mushrooms inside were old, the seaweed used was not fresh and the tofu used was the same. What the restaurant didn't know is I'm a great cook. I can tell the difference between high quality fresh food and low quality or food at the point of turning! Also, the Ramen tasted old or like the cooked stale ramen noodles from a box! I then order their chicken Karage. It was definitely fried in used old oil. This caused an aftertaste. The chicken meat was low quality too! It tasted like the meat was bruised. I also tried their Pork Katsu. The same thing the pork had an aftertaste due to the old oil. Again, none of the ingredients were quality. I had high hopes for the restaurant due to the 4.9* reviews. Again reviews are not accurate for anyone with elevated palates! Yes! Sorry, to be harsh. This was my very first time at this restaurant too! I'm not from Santa Rosa! However, if I come back, I will not be eating at Kyoto Sushi Ramen and Hawaiian Barbecue!!! Usually, Asians like cooking at home. Occasionally, Asians will eat out. If they eat at another Asian restaurant it's a specialty. They then expect the restaurant food to be of the highest quality and fresh and better than home cooking if they're spending their hard earned money on it! Again, Kyoto Sushi Ramen and Hawaiian Barbecue was NOT this kind of Asian food. Again, if you don't see multiple Asians frequenting an Asian restaurant BEWARE!!!!! No Japanese, Chinese or Koreans visited this restaurant! My left over food, I'm sorry Kyoto Sushi Ramen and Hawaiian Barbecue, I had to give it to my animals. read more

Nice clean restaurant. It looks larger inside than I would have thought. They were busy and it smelled great. The employee took my to-go order was very nice and the menu looked extensive. My son ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen with pork and spicy broth and I ordered the chicken ramen with mild broth. They give you a decent amount of food. When I got home, we did a quick taste test of the spicy and mild broth. There was not a lot of flavor difference and both were kinda bland. Broth is what makes the Ramen and it was good, not great. The rest of the meal was good and I had enough to eat the next day. Noodles were cooked perfectly and all the ingredients tasted fresh. I will try their Hawaiian food next and see how that is. I might give it some time and try the ramen again as you never know with a new business whether they had a rush and had to use broth that wasn't done yet to fill the order. read more

Brand new and they've already hit the ground running! You can't miss the numerous 'now open' flags by the street. It is a casual spot in a little strip mall. They have actual table service which we appreciated. A sweet server brought us water and there were menus under glass on our table. There were many take-out orders going out the door and during our time there, the tables quickly filled up. We were seated in a comfortable booth for our meal. For our appetizer we tried their karaage (fried chicken pieces). It came piled high and the chicken pieces were generous in size. It arrived at our table piping hot and crispy. We also ordered the curry ramen and Hawaiian plate with short ribs, BBQ beef and brown rice. I had requested medium spicy for the ramen and it is the kind of spicy that hits you in the back of the throat. The flavors had depth and warmth. The noodles were cooked perfectly. They also gave me three thick pieces of the roasted pork, bamboo shoots and an egg. I requested no onions and they got my order correct. The Hawaiian plate of beef was a generous portion and we brought the leftovers home. The kitchen was very busy the whole time and the one server was very efficient assisting everyone. I can't wait to return and try other items on their extensive menu. Located next door to Bubblecups, they replaced the Indian restaurant, Taj Café. Inside it was bright and clean. Much better than the previous place. My Mom and I stopped in for a quick lunch. The waitress came over still chewing her food from her lunch. Didn't observe any hand washing so I'm not sure if she did before taking our order. We shared a poke bowl, musubi and I ordered some ramen to go for my husband. The food came out quick. The poke had alright flavor but the tuna tasted off to me. We let them know and they fixed it. Although the waitress did have to let us know that it was fresh and tasted fine to them countless times. I had to ask for sauce for the musubi, they were tasty. And the soup was hot even when I got home. There were some good flavors but over all my husband said he would not get it again. I wasn't aware of this grand opening but I was in the area and decided to go in. I was looking at the food on the storefront windows as my mouth began to water. I felt a vibe from the moment I walked in, it was where I needed to be. The sweet lady who took my order was multitasking, I could tell she knew what she was doing with a smile on her face. Got delivery on a busy night. Was excited to try a new place. Everything was packaged well for delivery. I ordered the beef ramen and added tofu. I am super picky about meat and don't enjoy it if it's fatty. The meat was flavorful and good though I did have to pick out some pieces. The broth was delicious! You can pick your own spice level when ordering which is nice. I also got a side of Mac salad because I love Hawaiian style macaroni salad. Also, super yummy. I am going to give this place 5 Stars, simply because it's in Santa Rosa. (Elsewhere, it would be more like a 4) I will admit that I was slightly skeptical... a place that has two cuisines is always sketch. But how can I not try a new asian place? (where one of our fave restaurants use to be? RIP Taj Cafe) We've come here twice and really the 5 Stars is for decent food, and large amounts of it, for a good value. We've gotten the tonkotsu curry, the bbq short ribs and chicken plate, and the lau lau and kalua pork plate. As well as the seaweed salad, takoyaki and gyoza. Everything has been quite good. Sometimes, I crave tonkotsu curry and let's face it, there's not that many places to get it around these parts. Is it the best tonkotsu curry in the world? Certainly not. (Sorry I am snobby about it)... But, it is quite decent and HUGE. If my husband and I weren't pigs who like variety, we could split one of those and be happy. (But we are pigs, so.... we like to over-order :P ) The Hawaiian food has been quite good as well, and the chicken was surprisingly good. Marinated and grilled to perfection - nice and tender. Short ribs are always good, and I actually really love lau lau, and not all places have that, so I am very happy with that combo. I really want to try the ramen, but the weather has been warm, so I haven't been in a ramen mood. But I'm looking forward to it. Honestly, this is obviously my opinion (Duh, it's a review), but there are ZERO good ramen places in Santa Rosa. I have tried them all, and none of them are worth it. (And honestly it makes me annoyed because some of those ramen places get really good reviews and they are absolutely subpar, and the curry ramen at that OTHER place isn't even japanese curry, it's a chinese/thai style curry) Anyhow, I digress... I haven't even tried the ramen here yet so I shouldn't get ahead of myself. I know that this place is not run by Japanese people, but that's okay, most Japanese restaurants are not, but I'd just like it to be at least somewhat Japanese in taste. Plus, I have to say that service here has been very nice. We ate in twice and they were attentive and just NICE. Only thing is we wish they had real forks when you eat in. They put everything else on real dishes and bowls, but for whatever reason, the silverware is disposable plastic. Came here for dinner. This place is in a tiny strip mall off Piner. Ok amount of parking spots. They have a wide selection on their menu from poke, ramen, Hawaiian bbq plates, and Japanese curry! I ordered the Hawaiian Mix BBQ Plate, my husband ordered the pork curry katsu, and we ordered the spam masubi for my son! Everything was cooked and prepared very well and tasted great! My mix plate came with chicken, beef, and beef short rib, two scoops of rice and one of Mac salad! My husband really enjoyed his pork Katsu and said that this place might be his go to place when he's having a Japanese curry craving! My son mowed down his masubis too! The portion size of everything is VERY GENEROUS! I ate half and look forward to the second half for lunch tomorrow. Love seeing new asian places open up in Santa Rosa. There's already three other Hawaiian bbq place in the area, but this may be my new go to. First of all, the portions are HUGE as everyone else has mentioned. One plate can easily last two meals and the price is solid. Second, there is a good variety with Hawaiian bbq, poke, and ramen. I've only tried the Hawaiian plate and it was delicious. Third, the service was extremely quick. I think we got our food within 10 minutes. The ambiance is kind of mid so this may be more of a take out than dine in place, but that's the case with two of the other Hawaiian bbq place in town. Went there for Hawaiian bbq because im sort of addicted. The meat is just as good as the coddingtown place with the lazy ass fire wings but the salad isnt as good but for the $7 price difference i am not complaining. This is my new spot from now on. Affordable and delicious. I got the aloha mix. The short ribs where the best, chicken the worst but not by any means bad, but out of the 3 meats its didnt have as much flavor as all. Id still go here once a week if I could read more
