    Salmon sushi special, so fresh.
    Mary H.

This place is a hidden gem in Stanwood. One of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever eaten at. We started with edamame which was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of sea salt added to bring out the flavor. The miso soup was light and refreshing. The Seattle Tempura was a knock out. A salmon roll with a light tempura fried topping. So good dipped in their high quality soy sauce. The California roll was excellent. Then we tried the special salmon sushi on rice. I usually don't care for so much raw fish, but this was delicious. So fresh! So light! We can't wait to go back again this week. They also have a selection of wine, Japanese beer, and saki. Waitstaff was extremely helpful. The decor is intimate and relaxing. Easy parking in the back with a back entrance.

Excellent *SUSHI C 31 (2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, albacore. yellowtail & 8 piece spicy tuna roll). Nice serving size. The Lettuce Wraps has Spicy tuna, crab mixture & shrimp tempura topped with spicy aioli & wrapped in green leaf lettuce, Service was good. Ambiance good. Located in old town. All food at our table and the others looked great.

Lettuce wraps were 10/10 Sushi was really good. I am giving it 4 stars just because in relation to other sushi in Seattle it's not jaw dropping, but I would say it's the best sushi in the Stanwood/ marysville/ Arlington/ camano island area. Surprisingly on a Tuesday night there were a good handful of people, but not enough to where we had to wait for seating. Service was super nice and the ambiance was very small town, cozy and friendly.

Some really good sushi. Very fresh and meaty. I have not had unagi cut like that before. So good, seared salmon has a great smokey taste.

Enjoying a Spider and Dragon roll tonight. Also shared chicken Teriaki.

Our meals have always been fresh, tasty & eat with your eyes, beautiful. We are treated like good friends & warmly greeted by name, every time we walk through the door. Hard pressed to find sushi this tasty without going to China town in Seattle!

I can't believe I have not done a review yet for this one. Coming from a coastal city with Asian heritages finding a phenomenal sushi place was not what I was expecting in rural Washington. Great fish selection Fresh rotating fish menu Great selection of traditional rolls Great selection of Americanized rolls Vegetarian and vegan options Great selection of bento boxes and soups for non fishy's Caters to the kiddos with cute chopsticks and kids rolls Honestly can't go wrong with a single item on the menu.

Our favorite spot in town. The staff are friendly, responsive and the food is fresh, full of flavor and reasonably priced. They are generally busy but if you do have to wait it is not more than 15 mins. We truly love going there and have become regulars. Even if you do not live in Stanwood it is worth the trip to get sushi and experience Shima's. If you do not like sushi their Udon and Chicken Teriyaki is amazing too.

pretty decent sushi, but for only "decent sushi" they're pretty expensive. Still nice to have a place in town.

The food was spectacular as usual. The service was very slow, appeared to be staffing issues, our waitress was doing the best she could.

A pretty standard Teriyaki place…read more The portion sizes were large with lots of chicken and a good quantity of rice, which was the strength of this restaurant. The chicken was tender with pretty standard flavor, but had a little more much sauce than I like (as is common with Teriyaki restaurants). I did not find the salad appealing - iceberg lettuce with an Asian sesame dressing -- pretty nondescript and not great. The California roll was ok, a nice appetizer to go with the teriyaki. They had a few kinds of sushi and a variety of other Asian food offerings, meaning a fair amount of choice. The restaurant does a very busy takeout business, as well as having several tables occupied inside. It is clear that it is a local favorite. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food came out quicker than promised. FYI: parking can be difficult on Friday or Saturday night ... more people want to go than there are spaces available.

It was weirdly sweet and super drippy. It looked and tasted more like japchae with onions instead of noodles. It spilled on my jeans as I pulled it out of the bag. My friends had other bentos that they enjoyed, and I liked the sides in the bento. Just don't get the bulgogi. May I give a suggestion? We stood there watching the counter help open the same boxes over and over because they couldn't remember what was in them. I wanted to scream "WRITE IT ON TOP!!!!" I estimate 50% of the counter worker's time went into reopening and reorganizing the boxes, leading to orders hanging out there longer than necessary and wasting time. I would happily donate a sharpie.

So I couldn't wait to check them out! Sadly, it took awhile to figure out where to find them. Initially it was announced they'd be at North Sound Brewing on the weekends. But I stopped there twice and... no truck. I looked for updates on social media, but (alas) still couldn't seem to sync up with them. Then, one random weeknight, we headed to Barley & Brew in Sedro Woolley to see a comedy show, and there was Karuma. Score! At the time, I was recovering from a tummy bug, and didn't want to eat raw fish yet, so I ordered a California Roll and got a beeper to await my order. 45 minutes later... it was ready. And...it was delish. Not to mention HUGE! I couldn't even finish it. Since they're new, I'll give them grace on the long wait and hard-to-findness. But I do hope to run into them again soon (maybe, finally, at North Sound) and give some of their other tasty sounding sushi a try!

I'm placing this as one of my new favorite sushi spots on the Eastside! Four of us came for an early dinner around 4:30P on a Saturday and got seating right away in a booth. The restaurant is on the smaller end with just a few tables on each side and a few seats at the sushi bar. In addition to an appetizer, two of us shared three specialty sushi rolls and the other two in our group ordered the chicken katsu meal set. Our sushi arrived beautifully all on one plate. Each specialty roll included 10 pieces and they all contained a generous amount of filling with a relatively thin rice layer, making the average price of $18 - $19 per roll worth the value. + TAKOYAKI ($7.50): These deep-fried dumplings had a soft creamy interior and housed a small piece of tender octopus. Four pieces came in an order, topped with mayo, unagi sauce and bonito flakes. I loved the crispy exterior and they were served steaming hot. I am not sure they were made in-house or frozen, but they were delicious. + KOUSHI ROLL ($17.99): A crab, avocado and cucumber roll topped with cajun seared salmon, spicy mayo, unagi sauce, green onion and fish roe. Between the crab filling and spicy mayo, this is a pretty creamy roll. The salmon on top had a very light sear, so while the smoky flavor was noticeable, I considered it closer to raw. The unagi sauce added some sweetness that offset the mild spice. + NAGOYA ROLL ($18.99): Tuna avocado roll topped with salmon, ponzu sauce, sweet sesame sauce, green onion and fish roe. The freshness of the fish especially shined here between the large cubes of tuna inside and the meaty slice of raw salmon on top. The sauce simply enhanced the roll without taking over the flavor, so it didn't distract from the purity of the ingredients. + SETO ROLL ($18.99): Spicy tuna and cucumber inside topped with tuna, ponzu sauce and green onion. This roll is HOT, like at least 3/5 stars on the spice scale! As spicy as it was, I really enjoyed it, especially since half the roll was topped with medium fatty tuna which was such a nice treat. Lean tuna draped over the other half. Chopped green onion on top added pops of freshness. The chicken katsu meal ($16.99) came with salad, rice and miso soup. I tried one piece of the chicken which was tender and had an excellent light crunch! Service was great as the two employees managing the dining room checked back a couple times and were actively watching in case any of the tables needed anything. I know I'll be back again for more sushi!
