A pretty standard Teriyaki place. The portion sizes were large with lots of chicken and a good quantity of rice, which was the strength of this restaurant. The chicken was tender with pretty standard flavor, but had a little more much sauce than I like (as is common with Teriyaki restaurants). I did not find the salad appealing - iceberg lettuce with an Asian sesame dressing -- pretty nondescript and not great. The California roll was ok, a nice appetizer to go with the teriyaki. They had a few kinds of sushi and a variety of other Asian food offerings, meaning a fair amount of choice. The restaurant does a very busy takeout business, as well as having several tables occupied inside. It is clear that it is a local favorite. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food came out quicker than promised. Between Valentines Day, the holiday weekend, and few options in the area, it was crowded. 45 minute wait for take out. I got the bulgogi bento. Sad to say, I did not love it. It was weirdly sweet and super drippy. It looked and tasted more like japchae with onions instead of noodles. It spilled on my jeans as I pulled it out of the bag. My friends had other bentos that they enjoyed, and I liked the sides in the bento. Just don't get the bulgogi. May I give a suggestion? We stood there watching the counter help open the same boxes over and over because they couldn't remember what was in them. I wanted to scream "WRITE IT ON TOP!!!!" I estimate 50% of the counter worker's time went into reopening and reorganizing the boxes, leading to orders hanging out there longer than necessary and wasting time. Happy Teriyaki is a staple in Stanwood. Their menu is extensive and from what I've had it's very good. My favorite is the spicy chicken with some kind of sushi roll. The only negative isn't even their fault. It's where the restaurant is physically located. It's almost impossible to turn left out of there to get back on the road going west. read more

I decided to take my son out for Teriyaki today and we both agreed it would be fun to try a new spot. The moment we entered we noticed a rather fun looking atmosphere and even though it was slightly busy the waitress made us felt welcome and she was very attentive through the experience. My son ordered the Mongolian beef as he likes spicy food. He asked for it to be at a level for but I feel they brought it down a notch or two because it was for a kid and my son said next time he will have to put it at a 5. I gave it a try and it tasted really delicious. For me it had some heat, but not to much and the rest of the flavors blended well together. I ordered the chicken yakisoba and I really felt like it was made well plenty of chicken and vegetables lots of noodles a very filling meal. The flavors all came together and as or writing this makes me want to return for more. We also got an order of Egg rolls and both enjoyed them as well. Stanwood. Who would have thought? The prices vs proportion is spectacular. I got the super bento box for $22. You get teriyaki chicken, a choice from the wok(I chose orange chicken), 4 pieces of California roll, gyoza, tempura shrimp, rice and salad. The teriyaki sauce was amazing, which strangely isn't always easy to find. The orange chicken, oh, the orange chicken! Best orange sauce I've ever had. It tasted like fresh squeezed juice right in the sauce. Nothing artificial about it. Such an unexpected, amazing experience. You can order to go, take out, or sit and dine. The service is amazing and I believe it's a family run restaurant. He was so sweet when I asked for a million sauces to go for my leftovers. My family and I spent the afternoon into early evening hours in Camano Island State Park and it was so beautiful. As we drove out of Camano Island to Stanwood, we spotted Happy Teriyaki. Of course, we decided to stop in. My sister-in-law and I walked in and we were immediately greeted by two young men. I loved their enthusiasm! As we perused the menu board, we opted for a couple combo plates, which included two scoops of rice and a side salad. We ordered a Teriyaki Chicken + Katsu Chicken combo plate, a Teriyaki Chicken + Beef Kalbi (Short Ribs) combo plate, and two sides of Shrimp Tempura. It took some time to prepare the plates so we waited in our vehicle until they brought out the food. The side salad was crunchy and cold - just how I like my salad. And the Teriyaki Chicken was delicious - not too heavily glazed, not overly sweet, and not too salty either. It was the right consistency for teriyaki. I really enjoyed it with the short-grain steamed rice. I actually didn't need the extra teriyaki sauce that it came with. I thought the beef kalbi was okay; it's actually much thinner than I expected but still good nonetheless. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the Chicken Katsu. It was tough to bite into and too dry to swallow - I almost thought I was eating pork! It was bland too. Everything else was better. Today I ordered regular chicken teriyaki for my wife and it didn't even taste like teriyaki. Was terrible. I ordered the house fried rice and as well terrible. Chicken was dry, beef was gamey, and shrimp average. I see all the raving reviews and honestly don't get it as we've had 4 meals now that weren't even average in taste!! I'm a food critic, but my wife isn't near as picky as me so when she states her teriyaki is bad then it is bad. $45 wasted, but our dog well definitely enjoy. Family owned restaurant. Very clean, nice atmosphere and the son at the front is very friendly even when they are slammed. The menu is easy to read and detailed but to the point. The menu also has "happy" logos next to the popular dishes which was nice being a newbie here. However, it was really offensive that the tip options on the machine were set to 18%, 25% and 35%. 35%?! The server then got upset we "only" chose 18% and put back/away the fortune cookies he got out for us, and turned his back on us as we were leaving.
