I called him for a dental emergency. Been going to him for years. He never called back. The last couple of years have really been bad.

But in this case, I feel it's important to share. I came to this office years ago after moving to Cerritos, right before my wedding, simply looking for a new dentist and a routine cleaning. They had great reviews, which is why I trusted them. From the start, I was told I had extensive issues--multiple cavities needed to be redone and several crowns were recommended. This was surprising to me, as I've consistently gone to the dentist and had never been told I needed such drastic work. Still, I trusted their assessment. The procedures that followed were some of the most painful dental experiences I've ever had. They took hours, felt extremely aggressive, and left me in severe pain afterward--far beyond what I've ever experienced with dental work. I have a high pain tolerance, and this felt very wrong. What was most frustrating was what happened next. I returned multiple times explaining that I couldn't sleep, eat, or function due to the pain. Each time, my concerns were dismissed and attributed to things like not flossing (umm I couldn't floss because of the extreme pain), which didn't make sense given the level of pain I was in. After pushing back repeatedly--especially with my wedding just days away--I insisted something was seriously wrong and requested further evaluation. It turned out I needed three root canals as a result of their prior work. Separately, the crowns that were placed caused ongoing issues. Eating anything with texture would cause gum pain, and I noticed unusual gaps that trapped food. When I brought this up, I was told the only solution was to redo the crowns at additional cost. My crowns also came off. Later, I happened to see a different dentist at the same office (a female provider who may have been temporary), and she immediately noted that the crowns had been placed at an awkward angle. She corrected them, and since then, I've had no pain and no further issues such as crowns falling off. I ultimately switched dentists and have not needed any major dental work since--just routine cleanings every six months, with no recurring problems. Based on what I went through--particularly the aggressive treatment, the outcome, and the dismissal of my concerns--I feel it's important for others to have full context before making a decision.

Thankfully I was very wrong and the whole process was virtually painless! From the reception, pre-OP, and even the IV placement, which they used a numbing spray so I didn't even feel a needle stick, to the actual tooth extraction, VIRTUALLY PAINLESS! The entire staff was friendly and professional! If you are ever in the unfortunate position of needing oral surgery, do yourself a favor and come here! Dr. Kim and his assistant were amazing...attentive, careful, letting me know what they were doing and what was happening. I had two follow up visits, and I didn't wait long at all at each visit. My insurance was checked and I knew exactly what my portion of the fee would be. Everyone was efficient and friendly. This is my second experience here, the first being wisdom tooth removal for my autistic son, which was perfect. I highly recommend this office for any of your oral surgery needs. I believe you won't be disappointed. I am a rather nervous dental patient, but I felt cared about and treated very well. I'm not the easiest patient because I have a chronic illness and am in my 60s, but everything was smooth and easy. Recovery went well and post-op instructions were clear. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

During my first visit, they used advanced technology to examine my teeth, which made the experience much more comfortable compared to past dental visits. Because I needed more extensive care due to my lack of flossing, I had to schedule a separate appointment for a deep cleaning. That experience also went really well. The dentist was warm, reassuring, talked me through the process, and truly got down and dirty with my plaque haha. Overall, I felt cared for and comfortable throughout the process. I'll definitely continue coming back.

I'm really disappointed with how Bixby Modern Dentistry handled the cancellation of my appointment…read more At 3:02 p.m. today, I received a voicemail letting me know that my appointment for tomorrow, September 2nd at 2:00 p.m. was being canceled because the dentist who was scheduled to see me was no longer with the practice. When I called the office, I asked why I was being notified less than 24 hours before my appointment when I had already taken the day off work and arranged childcare. I was told that the dentist had informed the office on Friday, August 28th, and that they had been contacting patients since Monday. I completely understand that unexpected things happen and that a dentist leaving the practice may not have been something they could control. What I found frustrating was the way it was handled. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience this caused. I was simply told that this was what happened and that they could reschedule me. Rescheduling wasn't really an option for me. I had already rearranged my work schedule and childcare, which is not easy to do. Thankfully, I was able to find another dentist with an appointment available tomorrow morning, so my day off and childcare arrangements won't go to waste. Ultimately, I decided to take my business elsewhere. The cancellation itself was disappointing, but the lack of communication and empathy was what really bothered me. I hope the office can put a better system in place for situations like this. Things happen, but patients deserve timely communication and, at the very least, some acknowledgment of the inconvenience when changes are made at the last minute.

I've been a patient at this oral surgery office in the past and received good care on one occasion,…read moreso I returned with a sense of trust. Unfortunately, my recent experience made it very clear that this office does not truly accommodate emergencies--despite advertising that they do. I was facing a legitimate dental emergency, had already been evaluated by three separate dentists, and was told unequivocally that the tooth required extraction. I explained that I now live three hours away and asked for a reasonable accommodation--an early consult with the possibility of treatment later the same day. This is a standard, patient-centered approach in many practices, especially when clinical documentation already exists. They refused outright, insisting on a consult-only visit and requiring me to return on a different day. There was no flexibility, no clinical judgment applied to the situation, and frankly, no consideration for the burden placed on the patient. Let me be very clear: this is not an "emergency" oral surgery office. It is a routine, by-the-book practice that does not deviate from protocol under any circumstance. If your needs are straightforward and you don't require any accommodation, you may have an acceptable experience. But if you are in pain, time-sensitive, or need a provider willing to exercise discretion and compassion--you will not find it here. As a nurse with 38 years of experience, I have spent my career going above and beyond for patients, especially in urgent situations. That level of care should not be the exception--it should be the standard. When a medical office markets itself as providing emergency services but refuses to act accordingly, that's not just disappointing--it's misleading. Choose your provider carefully. When you're in a true emergency, this is not the place you want to rely on.
