I've been a patient at this oral surgery office in the past and received good care on one occasion, so I returned with a sense of trust. Unfortunately, my recent experience made it very clear that this office does not truly accommodate emergencies--despite advertising that they do. I was facing a legitimate dental emergency, had already been evaluated by three separate dentists, and was told unequivocally that the tooth required extraction. I explained that I now live three hours away and asked for a reasonable accommodation--an early consult with the possibility of treatment later the same day. This is a standard, patient-centered approach in many practices, especially when clinical documentation already exists. They refused outright, insisting on a consult-only visit and requiring me to return on a different day. There was no flexibility, no clinical judgment applied to the situation, and frankly, no consideration for the burden placed on the patient. Let me be very clear: this is not an "emergency" oral surgery office. It is a routine, by-the-book practice that does not deviate from protocol under any circumstance. If your needs are straightforward and you don't require any accommodation, you may have an acceptable experience. But if you are in pain, time-sensitive, or need a provider willing to exercise discretion and compassion--you will not find it here. As a nurse with 38 years of experience, I have spent my career going above and beyond for patients, especially in urgent situations. That level of care should not be the exception--it should be the standard. Horrible customer service. I made an appointment 3 weeks out because that was the soonest they could see me for a deep cleaning. Well. day before my appointment they called and left a voicemail and stated they had to cancel my appointment. Okay things happen. Took my mom here as a referral. My mom is 94 years old and I had taken her to an oral surgeon in Anaheim, who refused to pull her tooth unless she was an outpatient in the hospital and was put under anesthesia. I had my last wisdom tooth pulled out Oct 18, 2023. I have to say David and his team did a great job. The last office I went to created nerve damage that never healed. Here, not only did it heal fully within a month at the age of 27 but there is no damage. The whole thing they do with drawing of blood/plasma and reinserting it to avoid dry socket is really great and should be done at every oral surgeon's office. I only had pain really the first 3 days as expected then nothing. They also didn't fight me to give me a note for a week off from work. I have a very physical job and I didn't want it to burst open. I'd avoided following my dentists' recommendation to have an errant wisdom tooth pulled, for decades. This week Dr. David Smith did me the favor of extracting this carrot of a molar, which had abraded my cheek and crowded the rest of my upper teeth. He and his staff are consummate professionals. I had little pain afterward, and only regret that I didn't do this sooner. 5 star rating because I couldn't have had an easier procedure or recovery, and Dr. Smith even provided his cell # in case I had any emergency after the tooth was pulled. read more

They treat you as if you are a vehicle getting serviced. They will charge you a cancellation fee of $150 if you cancel 48 hours prior to your appointment, but call you 24 hours prior to confirm your appointment. They do not go over any policies in their paperwork while you are there not to mention the lack of compassion for being anxious about being at the dentist let alone going through Oral surgery. Not to mention, after my oral surgery, not one employee went over the aftercare with myself or my partner. The recovery was AWFUL too. Sadly, I have been charged over $5,000 dollars and continue to have mediocre to poor service when I have been handled here. read more

So far my experience with this office has been fantastic! The girls in front including Melissa the office manager are not only kind but so helpful! Dr. Smith is AMAZING!!!! He is so knowledgeable and explains everything in detail which I so appreciate. I wish he was a general dentist as well because then I would have been the luckiest patient in the world! My previous wisdom teeth removal experience with a regular dentist was nothing short of traumatizing. Despite my intense dental anxiety (of the shaking-like-a-baby-lamb, nervous sweats, and full-on teary-eyed variety). I was offered no options for sedation or pain management beyond a numbing shot. The entire process was distressing, as I was fully awake while they were cutting and yanking away, and to top it off, the office was an open floor plan, so I got to enjoy the lovely sounds of the guy next to me getting a filling. The post-op pain was excruciating and the swelling lasted for nearly a week. Needless to say, I was dreading the removal of my remaining wisdom teeth. They were impacted and growing horizontally with the bottom close to a major nerve. I did my research, read up on Google, Yelp, and even scoured the Long Beach subreddit for recommendations. It was clear that I needed a skilled and understanding team who could cater to my dental anxiety. This office had glowing reviews, and it's clear why! From my initial consultation in January, Dr. Smith and his staff displayed an exceptional level of professionalism and patience. He attentively listened to my concerns and answered my 10,000 questions regarding the surgery, anesthesia, recovery times, etc. The office conducted a thorough examination, including a 3D X-ray to assess the condition of my nerves. I left feeling reassured and confident in their capabilities. Due to insurance constraints, I had to wait before scheduling the surgery. Unfortunately, around the 4th of July, my wisdom teeth became infected and started causing significant discomfort. When I reached out via a phone call, they provided a prescription for antibiotics, resolving the infection just in time for my surgery on July 11th. On the day of the procedure, the team made me feel at ease and ensured my comfort. Finding a vein for anesthesia proved to be a challenge, but Dr. Smith's persistence paid off, and he successfully administered the anesthesia via a vein beside my pinky finger. Throughout the process, he helped calm my nerves by guiding me to focus on my breathing, and before I knew it, I was blissfully asleep... When I woke up, I experienced no post-anesthesia nausea and was pleasantly surprised by how pain-free and numb I felt. Dr. Smith had prescribed a combination of pain medication, Ibuprofen, an antiseptic rinse, and a steroid, anticipating potential swelling and discomfort due to the complicated positioning of my impacted wisdom teeth. However, I only needed one Ibuprofen upon returning home and one Norco for the night as a precaution. From then on, I managed my pain effortlessly with Ibuprofen alone for two days. The minimal pain and swelling made me question if my teeth were really out--such was the expertise of Dr. Smith and his team! I firmly believe that my swift and painless recovery can be attributed to the skill and advanced techniques employed by Dr. Smith and his team. They recommended a relatively new procedure called Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) therapy, which made a remarkable difference in my healing process. If it's offered, DO IT!!! It is absolutely worth it. There was a significant gap (5.5 months) between my initial consultation and the actual surgery. During that time, I gained some weight, which can impact anesthesia dosage. When I checked in for surgery, I made sure to ask them to update my information. It wasn't a major issue, but I'm a worrier, and I've had an unfortunate experience of waking up during surgery in the past, attempting to communicate through a breathing tube to a horrified anesthesiologist. You can imagine why I was concerned about them not asking for updated health info. Despite this minor hiccup, my experience at their office has completely transformed my outlook on dental procedures, and I cannot thank them enough for making my wisdom teeth removal a painless and stress-free process. Dr. Smith and his staff are great. I was referred to them by my dentist for my wisdom teeth extraction because my teeth are complicated. My appointment was confirmed the day before and during that call, I was asked questions related to COVID. Not only that, but my temperature was checked when I entered for my appointment so it made me feel safe in regards to Covid. All the staff were super patient with me and answered all my questions. Dr. Smith is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. The surgery went very well and all 4 of my wisdom teeth were out after and hour. I barely felt pain after the second day. It's been a week now and my teeth are sensitive, which is normal due to the position of my teeth being so close to the nerve. But I was told this will improve with time. Had a horrible toothache, and immediately knew what was in store. Went to my Dentist who took X-Rays and confirmed my final hold out wisdom tooth had to be pulled. They accepted payment, consent signed, then I told them I was relaxed & ready. Taken to the chair, and cancelled. I had a friend come get me, they returned consent & payment. No next appt was scheduled. I called later in week because i had appt following Monday and was told i did not have appointment that day, it was nxt week (2wks) and i needed to come make TO PAY & SIGN CONSENT first. F that! I'm not making a special trip over there just for that. So If you have anxiety, don't go there, you will be cancelled on the spot. My time & day was wasted. read more

I needed a tooth extraction and a bone graft for an implant. The experience was quite delightful. I believe the whole procedure took 45 minutes. The three girls in the front office were very attentive to me. I had filled out the paperwork beforehand, so I got right in. Dr. Smith examined me and a different girl did my X-ray. I was nervous. He wanted to be certain that I was comfortable and didn't feel any pain. I didn't even realize that the tooth was already out while he was finishing up. Very professional atmosphere. Glad I waited for this review. Dr. Smith, has a dentist is surgeon was excellent. Explained everything in great detail so we knew what to expect regarding Surgery and having her wisdom teeth removed. He even went as far as to explain which days she would feel the worst pain. Everything turn out fine and she's feeling much better. So 5 starts for Dr. Smith himself. The 1 star is for the billing department in his office. As long as I have had benefits( through myself and my parents) I have never paid out of pocket $789! EVER!! I was told I had to pay $275 before surgery out of pocket which I did and now I receive and additional bill for almost $500. I called his office and I'm told the insurance didn't pay the remainder because there was other pending claims. Had I known I was expected to pay this amount, of course I would have never allowed consent to have surgery at this office. I would have definitely found a less expensive office and would not have paid anything out of pocket, like I did for myself, my son and husband when we all had our wisdom teeth removed. Paying $275 was a lot and I had never paid that but now to tell me I owe an additional $500 is ridiculous. All of this should have been verified before having surgery, you don't wait until after surgery to tell me my out of pocket expense and now I'm obligated to pay, when you could have told me prior and given me the option to continue on or look elsewhere. I had extreme pain for the last few nights and I called them and they pulled up my insurance and put me on their schedule the next day.
