집 가까운 곳에 닥터 신이 운영하는 침술 의원이 있어 몇 년간 잘 애용하고 있었습니다.
최근 목디스크가 발생하여 닥터 신의 의술이 좋기 때문에 기쁜 마음으로 의원을 방문하려고 예약 전화를 걸었습니다.
그런데 전화를 받은 매니저는 다짜고짜 예약은 받지 않고, 벌써 8개월이나 지나버린 진료비 3건에 대해 보험사에서 지불을 거부했기 때문에 개인적으로 그 3건에 대한 진료비를 다 해결해야 한다고 말했습니다($360).
아닌 밤중에 홍두깨도 아니고, 8개월이 지난 진료비 청구서를 갖다 대면서 그것이 결제가 안 됐으니 그것부터 해결하라고 하니 너무 어이가 없어 곧바로 보험사에 전화를 걸어 알아보기 시작했습니다.
그랬더니 보험사에서는 닥터 신 의원에서 진료비 청구서를 요청한 내용이 전혀 없다고 하였습니다. 그래서 내가 닥터 신 의원에서 청구한 적이 진짜 없냐고 했더니 전혀 기록이 없다고 했습니다.
그래서 보험사 직원에게 부탁하기를, 너희가 직접 닥터 신 의원에 전화를 하여 그들이 뭔가를 잘 모르고 이해하지 못하기 때문에 청구하는 모든 절차에 대해서 상세하게 설명을 좀 해주고 이 케이스를 해결해 달라고 부탁했습니다.
몇 시간 후, 난 닥터 신 의원에 전화를 하여 전화받는 직원에게 설명해 주려고 전화를 했는데, 전화받는 직원은 자신들의 실수에 대해서 미안하다는 말 대신에 눈 가리고 아웅하고 그냥 대충 넘기려고 하는 역겨운 태도로 일관하는 그 모습에 정말 혀를 내두를 수밖에 없었습니다.
환자의 예약을 먼저 받기보다는 자신들의 게으름과 불찰로 인해 받지 못했던 환자의 진료비를 손 하나 까딱하지 않고 환자에게 다 책임을 떠넘기는 무례한 행동은 두 번 다시 신 의원을 찾지 않게 하는 안타까운 상황을 만들어 버렸습니다.
닥터 신은 의술도 중요하지만 직원들의 환자 대응과 친절에도 최선을 다하길 바랍니다.
cf) 닥터 신 의원의 전화 자동 응답에 나오는 한국말도 애들 장난하는 것도 아니고, 아니면 한국인들을 무시하는 것인지 알아듣지도 못하고 무슨 말인지도 모르는 이상한 소리의 한국말을 서비스라고 돌리고 있는데, 좀 들어보고 제대로 된 말로 교체하세요. 아니면 영어로만 하시든지.
There is an acupuncture clinic operated by Dr. Shin near my home, and I had been a regular patient there for several years.
Recently, I developed a herniated disc in my neck. Since I have always thought highly of Dr. Shin's medical skills, I was actually happy to call the clinic and make an appointment.
However, the manager who answered the phone abruptly refused to schedule an appointment. Instead, she told me that three medical bills from eight months ago had not been paid because the insurance company had refused to cover them, and that I personally had to take care of the entire $360 balance for those three visits.
Out of nowhere, they brought up medical bills that were already eight months old and told me that since they had not been paid, I had to resolve the issue before they would even make an appointment for me. I was so shocked and frustrated that I immediately called my insurance company to find out what was going on.
The insurance company told me that there was absolutely no record of the clinic ever submitting or requesting payment for these bills. I specifically asked whether Dr. Shin's clinic had ever submitted these claims, and they confirmed that there was no record of any such claims.
So I asked the insurance representative to contact Dr. Shin's clinic directly and explain in detail how the billing and claims process works, since apparently the clinic did not understand or know how to properly handle the process. I also asked them to help resolve the case.
A few hours later, I called Dr. Shin's clinic to speak with the employee who had handled the matter and explain what the insurance company had told me. But instead of apologizing for their mistake, the employee continued to act as though nothing had happened, trying to brush the whole matter aside with an extremely dismissive and unpleasant attitude. I was honestly at a loss for words.
Rather than taking care of the patient's appointment first, the clinic chose to put the entire burden of unpaid medical bills--apparently resulting from their own negligence and failure to properly handle the claims--on the patient, without making even the slightest effort to resolve the issue themselves.
This kind of rude and irresponsible treatment has unfortunately made me decide that I will never return to Dr. Shin's clinic again.
Dr. Shin, your medical skills are important, but the way your staff treats patients and the level of courtesy and customer service they provide are just as important. I sincerely hope you will pay more attention to this aspect of your practice as well. read more
