This is by far one of the least caring acupuncturists I've ever experienced. She barely asked me any questions and spent very little time with me during our consultation. She leaves the needles in for 15 minutes, sets an alarm that is not very relaxing and is so minimal it did very little difference to my state. In addition, she has you lay on a disposable medical sheet that is so uncomfortable and also stressful. The whole experience was very low quality and impersonal. I am kind of shocked, confused and wish I could get my money back. Never going back. read more

This was my first experience with acupuncture. I got a consult from my OB for wrist pain, And I am 37 weeks pregnant. My appointment was at 10. The girl at the front desk was late arriving at 10:13, the acupuncturist started at 10:30a. The room was hot and dusty. She didn't greet me nor say sorry for being late. She proceeded to put needles in wordlessly. It made me upset to not be recognized as a patient or deserving of any explanation or plan of care. I cried and she wanted explanation. Asking if I had depression. I declined to answer because I was so upset. I told her I've never done this and need explanation. She said that people nowadays know what acupuncture is so she doesn't need to explain. And to not cry for the baby's sake. Hopefully my experience is the exception. I'm new to acupuncture so wasn't sure what to expect. It was recommended to me by my primary physician as a way to control musculoskeletal pain. So I found this place near me and made an appointment. As a newbie, I was given no introduction to the procedures or estimation of time required, or any idea of what to expect. I think I shared a total of three sentences between myself and the doctors. I was left in a room, in the dark, in silence(the tape player turned off after a single tune, lol), for a LONG time. It was getting toward the end of the day and they forgot I was in there. At the end, I was given a VERY quick (vigorous) rub down and ushered out. I really wouldn't recommend these people if you're new to this or need hand-holding because you won't be getting any, lol. I wanted to take the time and thank Dr. Lee in this public space for helping relieve/lighten up my chronic and acute pain. Since I started treatment at this special clinic 1 year ago with Dr. Hong my pain has been reduced greatly. I was introduced to Dr. Lee at this time but he always attended the post-needle pin placements with cupping and massage. Due to his youthful appearance, I did not realize Dr. Lee was also an experienced acupuncturist. It was the day I was told Dr. Hong was booked up and Dr. Lee was available. Dr. Lee is an excellent acupuncturist and has given me a great deal of pain relief helping me to remove the down disposition I get from my pain. An accident I had18 years ago left me burdened with daily pain that is difficult to live with. This year the opioids Rx'd by Kaiser have been pulled away since Medicare threatened to remove their licenses; unless you have pain from cancer. So naturally this year my pain became worse until my body can make its adjustment. The Kaiser Pianagement Md's, Dr. Park, and then Dr. Wong authorized my treatments. I found Holistic Acupuncture through YELP and am very grateful. Dr. Hong and Dr. Lee can tell by the way I walk into the office, and my attitude about the amount of pain I am having. The front desk also will make an inquiry. This is a very caring office. Even after I am finished with my treatment and when Dr. Lee has gone on to another patient, he will locate me in the parking lot if I have left and check up with me to see how my pain level is doing after his treatment. Exceptional care and highly effective treatment for a myriad of health issues including infertility, depression and anxiety, weight loss, and muscle tension. The environment is peaceful and relaxing. I went in almost one year ago for problems with infertility. After a few months of treatment (about once a week), I was able to get pregnant. Since then, I have been going regularly for prenatal care and plan to continue care in postpartum. I look forward to my visits and feel rejuvenated, healed, and whole afterwards. Their billing practices verge on the unethical. They do a four step treatment - They start with a heating pad on your stomach. The bill it to your insurance as infrared treatment and charge $50. Check to make sure your insurance covers it. I found out after the visit that mine didn't. The second step is the needles. Charged amount $90. Step three, you turn over and lie face down. They stick in a two to three more needles and do cupping - both times I have visited, the needles they put in while I was face down could easily have been inserted while I was on my back. The reason they do it in two steps is that the second round of needles insertion can be charged separately - another $90 charge. The last thing they doid was a 2-3 minute massage around the neck and upper back and apply some sort of menthol ointment. That 2-3 minute massage is another $50 charge. Total amount charged to insurance -$280. My insurance declined two of the charges! On my first visit, while I was lying face down, the assistant came in to ask me if I wanted a massage and I said no. then the doctor came in and did the two minute massage thing. The second visit was a different doctor who asked me if I wanted cupping. I was dumbfounded and told him I did not know what I needed for treatment.That would be for the doctor to tell me. Neither of the doctors checked my pulse or looked at my tongue or asked me any questions. The second doctor did not treat the areas where I had pain at all. Maybe they are good doctors but they seem more intent on making money than on the well-being of their patients. read more

Dr. Hong and her staff are very professional and friendly- I have had chronic jaw pain for years, and it gets worse when I am stressed. At first I went to see a Western doctor, who told me that the bone problem was probably developmental and would eventually go away. He recommended that I see an acupuncturist in the meantime to help ease some of the pain, so I did. Dr. Hong not only treated me for jaw pain, but also took the time to relieve my seasonal allergies (which were also bothering me at the time). After a few sessions, my jaw pain was minimal and my previously-stressed-out body felt recovered. This place is a scam. I was referred by my health insurance. When I called to make an appointment the receptionist said I needed to update my insurance to include "american specialty health." I called ASH...after speaking to numerous representatives for a number of days, I received a message stating I was approved and could now make an appointment. i then called holistic acupuncture informing the same receptionist i did what she requested and made an appointment. when i arrived for my appointment i was informed, (by the same receptionist) that ASH had not posted my approval and they could not accept me until they did. i told her i was approved and asked her to listen to my message on my cell. at first she didn't want to hear and said a message didn't matter if the info was not posted online. i then put the phone to her ear so she could clearly hear the approval message. i played it for her twice and she took notes, but still stated it didn't matter until it was posted online. i was angry and asked her-then why did you tell me to come in? after a conversation with dr. hong i was told they would give me treatment. they went thru the treatment in a robotic way and never spoke to me about anything! when i was done the assistant forgot to remove two needles! Back in reception that same receptionist told me-since the updated info had not been posted, I was not approved. I could not come back until the info was posted. I asked her how long that would take. She had no answer. Today I called ASH and spoke to a rep who repeated I was indeed approved and there was no reason why I would not be accepted at holistic acupuncture. ASH rep-Shawn- the called HA and spoke to that same receptionist. She told him-"the info is not posted on our network so we cannot accept his insurance. He was stymied as to why and how this clinic would not accept the direct approval from the insurance company they were promoting. I was told Holistic Acupuncture would be removed from its referral list. read more

BEWARE! I made an appointment ahead of time so they had time to verify my insurance. I told then when I was checking out that my copay was $30. They said they had to verify that with my insurance the next day so they charged me $80. When I called the next to confirm my copay was $30, they said I could use the credit toward another visit. I told them I rather have my money back. When I said that they said that I had to wait until my insurance reimbursed them. Who does business like that? It's been a month since I was there. They recently submitted a claim and now my insurance is saying I have to wait another 30 days. I have been going to Holistic Accupuncture for several years now. I am not new to acupuncture as I have had treatments by at least six other acupuncturists since 1984. Dr Hung treats both sides of the body. Most acupuncturists apply needles to only one side of the body, while Dr Hung treats front and back First, she applies a heat pack to your adominal area while you are lying on your back. Then she places the needles where needed according to your case. 20 min. on one side, then you flip over and needles are applied. Holistic Accupuncturist does do cupping. Not all acupuncturists do this highly effective technique for muscle pain and spasms, etc. After another ten minutes with needles and/or cupping on the back side of your body, a 5 minute massage is given to smooth you out. Also, the herbs are optional but very effective for certain physical conditions. Recently, I had a medical emergency due to a bad reaction to a prescription drug for osteoporosis which necessitated five trips to Kaiser ER over a two week period. I am very happy with my experience at Holistic Acupuncture! I have been suffering with migraines and nothing has helped me more than my sessions with Dr. Hong. After several sessions my symptoms disappeared completely and were gone for 6 months. After that they came back a bit, so I went back in to get more work and they were gone again. I'm very impressed with the work and grateful, my migraines were becoming debilitatingly painful and conventional medicine was only able to treat the symptoms a bit as the headaches were becoming more and more frequent. Dr. Hong is actually treating the underlying condition and healing my body. Migraines are a syndrome that conventional medicine does not have a cure for, only palliatives like triptans which are helpful, but actually can increase the amount of headaches you have. So its been amazing to me to find a natural treatment that works so well! Don't be fooled by the no frills appearance of this office, they really know what they are doing and deliver quality, affordable treatment that works! This is not the luxury, spa style vibe that more westernized acupuncture tends to be, its more of a down to earth, simple doctor's office. They have many clients and so at times the approach is a bit no nonsense, if you have never had acupuncture before you might want to let them know so they take the time to ease you in to it a bit.
