I have been coming to Shining Smiles for several years now. First, the good: All of the dentists that practice there are very nice. They are knowledgeable, and they take the time to explain what exactly is going on with your teeth and overall oral health. The techs that work there as well are also very nice and pleasant. It is close to my home, and the scheduling is very flexible. I also like that they all offer Netflix to watch while you wait. Now the not so good: Yesterday, it took quite a while for me to be called in the back, exactly 35 minutes. The tech apologized for the wait, which I did appreciate. However, the waiting room was also not up to par. When they first opened, the decor was very nice and trendy. Now the seating in the waiting area is very dirty, there are rips in the couches, and the decals are peeling off the walls. The other complaint I have is that each time I go for my appointment, I see someone different. I'd rather be able to see the same dentist. Since I've been going, I've seen at least 5 different dentists. I did really like all of them, but it's always someone different. I think I will be looking for a new dentist office. *Update-- I decided to give them another shot --I was pleasantly surprised they got a new couch. Avoid this dentist at all costs. Doctor Shah poorly communicates dental issues and is ALWAYS LATE to attend appointment. The front desk is rude and the cross eyed manager likes to argue to bill you more for the dentist's benefit. Doctor Shah had to fix a minor composite bonding on my tooth multiple times because it was poorly done, forcing me to come in over 5 times in less than one year. read more

I was wishing to give them a better rate but they seem to not to want a new patient. Was late for my appointment by 10 minutes and they said no cleaning today and just the exam and x-ray( where they make most of the money). They were somehow under impression that I don't have insurance and when I presented my insurance card the front desk lady seemed not to err happy( I don't know the reason ). I did stand up and left as if they do not want my business, I will gladly take it somewhere else. By the way, I called them to let them know I will be late but got the answering machine and the front desk lady lied straight to my face that we have been trying to call you!!! Don't go there unless u want to get screwed by unethical staff. They call me in. Look at my daughter told us to take her to somewhere else. And I ask then what specialist does she need an oral dentist or pediatric dentist. And the response was.. that's what the referral is for they will let you know.. ok so why do u schedule appointment at ur office. Just so they can charge my insurance. Dr. Javad is a phenomenal dentist, but this practice engages in unethical billing. They have no loyalty to their customers and will conveniently leave as in-network partners in the middle of the year without informing their patients what they will billed as for the next calendar year. Very disappointed, but not surprised when accepting $75 co-payments AND the 80/20% co-insurance for cleanings (when they've been free for the last 2 years!) ensures the staff is taken care of. It was my first time here and they are very efficient. I was in and out. The dentist was very trustworthy and gave me a great referral for my root canal. Now I will be going back for my crown. I have seen quite a few dentists, but Dr. Gaglani may be the best dentist I've been to. She is incredibly patient, has a great attitude, she explains what she is doing, and she checks in often during the procedure to ensure patient comfort and make everything as pain free as possible. The waiting room/lobby is modern and always clean (I've been here four times). The children's waiting room is nice, too. My four year old enjoyed it, and I enjoyed knowing he was entertained and safe, away from other adults who may not appreciate waiting right next to a squirmy child. The procedure rooms are clean, comfortable, and modern. The wait time is short. The receptionists and dental assistants are professional and pleasant. They are able to answer all of my questions and concerns. I would recommend this dental office to anyone. Dr. Gaglani is great with children, too. I usually comment on the bathrooms, because as a mom I like to know where I can make pit stops for my 99% potty trained son, but I haven't needed to make that pit stop for myself ;) So, sorry, no bathroom report. I went in to Shining Smiles this past weekend and had such a pleasant experience that I felt writing a review was the least I could do. I hadn't been to a dentist in a couple of years so I was somewhat anxious and didn't know what to expect. I really appreciated the phone call I received the day before my appt. as a reminder. When I arrived to the office,the front desk was super friendly. I was called back by one of the assistants and she did a great job at making me feel less nervous. I believe her name was Vanessa. Shortly after she finished taking xrays the Dr came in to see me. He went over the neccessary treatment plan and did a great job at answering all of my questions. So now that I've received my insurance EOB for this visit, I've reduced my review to one star and would reduce it further to zero if I could. The receptionist at my visit insisted that I had a much larger co-pay than I normally have for a dentist appointment. As this was my first use of my dental insurance for 2015, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and paid the co-pay. I received my EOB and found that I actually had a much smaller amount to pay than what I was made to pay when I arrived for my visit. I tried to call the office today to speak with the billing department and was told by the receptionist that they had already left for the day. As soon as I can speak with the billing department, I will be expecting them to cut a check for the overage back to me within one business day of my call. If not, I will be contacting the fraud department for my insurance company. I now have zero interest in returning to Shining Smiles and the only advice that I can give to anyone who still thinks they would like to use them as an office is to make sure you are CRYSTAL CLEAR on your dental benefits so Shining Smiles doesn't try to defraud you of your money. read more

Horrible experience! Beware of Ms. Desai, who calls herself a dentist. She is rude, inconsiderate and does sloppy work. I will not be having my family return to this sloppy run facility again! I paid $800+ in full for my crown two weeks ago. I go in today only for them to put another temp on- which no one ever told me. Ms. Desai decided to argue that I was told I was only getting a temp tooth today. I asked her by whom, she said she is sure the staff told me- she never could tell me who told me this because no one ever did! She decided to take it out on my tooth and intentionally hurt me while putting a new temp on and then there is glue everywhere on the temporary tooth. It looks sloppy and disgusting! So I wait another week even though they have had my new crown since Thursday! Just horrible and ridiculous to waste another Saturday at this office waiting 30+ minutes past my appointment time to be seen. read more

Ok yes sometimes you have to wait, but they are trying to change that. They have this new policy where you don't wait more than 15 min. Now besides the time issue, they are great. The girls up front are friendly and the dentists that my son and I have seen are awesome. All very nice and friendly and get the job done!! I came into this office because I've heard nothing but great things however the day I came in with my two children I was charged 150 for our family deductible, I myself didn't even get a cleaning. My deductible only applied to single x-rays. In total I should have only paid under 50 dollars. When I talked to the billing management she informed me I would get reimbursed once they recieved a claim. It takes them over a month and more to get a claim, this lady. The staff over all is great, the doctors are wonderful but I would advise you check your benefits before end up paying more then what you should. read more

Horrible! Called for appointment for specific exam and cleaning....have not been to dentist in years. Only wanted exam and cleaning done. They took X-rays and dentist looked at teeth (though NO cleaning was done) and said I needed a deep cleaning....... I only wanted an exam and cleaning go start!!! I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out when I was 16, turns out I had one more hiding somewhere. I just had my "extra" wisdom tooth pulled at 9 this morning. I have a ton of anxiety in everyday life and it is way worse when it comes to needles or doctors or any kind. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Rivera! He is so patient with me. He lets me know he can stop anytime I feel i need him to. He is the best. It took a whole 2 minutes to pop that tooth right out. I do agree at times there are longer than usual waits, but I have yet gone to any type of doctor or dentist and not wait at least 15 minutes. Not happy with one of the receptionist. I asked about their promo and wanting to try them out. I rarely ask for anything they offer even if it's free. It took a lot of guts for me to ask about their promo. I called couple weeks ago regarding to what they are offering. At first the receptionist did not know about it. When i came in for my appointment flyers on the table. Anyway, when i asked about the promo they gave me that look. some girls looked at each other and made another look. It's like WTH was that?! Why would they put it out there if they don't want to give them away or let anyone try the product? And one of the receptionist gave me an attitude. I told one of the receptionist that I didn't set up my appointment yet. She asked the one with the attitude if she already set my appointment. She didn't even look just said, Nope with an attitude. I wanted to say something. But it really bothered me how those girls acted specially that receptionist that doesn't have a tongue ring. The one with the ring in her tongue is a lot nicer than the one that act like she's all that. And also i waited 45mins to be seen. The dentist is very nice and very informative. I usually would just ignore the incident because I usually look at the bright side that the dentist is the one taking care of your teeth. I couldn't bypass it this time. I can't stand how rude one of the receptionist to me and some of the eye roller staff. I felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. I don't know what their problems are, they better fix their attitude or they will lose more patients. I feel bad for the dentist. So the first issue I had with shining smiles (Bolingbrook location) I made an appointment for Monday February 26th and a few days later I receive a text stating my appointment is Tuesday February 27th. My second issue is I arrived today at 423 because my appointment was scheduled for 430 and I didn't see the dentist until 6 just for them to tell me they won't have time to do anything today. So I left work early, to wait 2 hours for them to tell me they won't have time to tend to their Patient me who clearly had an scheduled appointment. I was having a pretty painful problem with my mouth, and needed to find a dentist open on Sunday that accepted Medicaid. Shining Smiles was one of the few that met those requirements. I went in (this was my first time there), filled out paperwork, and was told that they were running about a half hour behind schedule, and asked if it was OK. Not really, but do I really have a choice?? I waited for an hour in the waiting room, was called back and had x-rays taken, and then proceeded to wait another hour in the room. I didn't actually get taken care of until 2 hours after my appointment time. The only reason that I would even consider going back to this office is because when the dentist FINALLY got back to help me, he was really nice and seemed like he was genuinely good at what he did. My advice to anyone that has an appointment: clear the rest of your schedule for that day because you'll be waiting for a while. read more

It was hard for me to find a dentist but now I have. My previous dentist were always pushing unnecessary treatments and expensive toothbrushes rather than cleaning my teeth. Shining Smiles took x-rays, cleaned my teeth, and did not try to sell me on anything I did not want. It is nice to find a dentist focused on the patient and not the money. The doctor was so friendly and patient with me (I'm a big baby when it comes to dentists!) he was very gentle and gave me lots of numbing shots...even those are more painful at other dentist. I would give this office no stars if I could. I had been a patient of Shinning Smiles in Bolingbrook for a few years. Recently I moved across country and changed insurances. My daughter (5 years old) needed to have a tooth removed since her baby tooth had not come out and her permanent adult tooth was coming in. Since she was not with me and with family I called the office since they had all of her records. They didn't we're not able to accommodate my daughter until a couple days out which was fine. I spoke to the manager on the phone and confirmed the change of insurance and all information needed to verify. Fast forward to my daughters appointment... Insurance was supposedly verified the treatment plan was proposed and shown to family member. After payment have been collected over the phone(I live out of state and her dad was at work) and treatment plan was signed and everything was collected the tooth was going to be extracted. During the examination the doctor realized my daughter needed sealants and a call was put in to me to request permission to proceed. After both myself and my daughter's father confirmed that insurance would be covering the preventive services and the percentage of the surgery we agreed to have all services provided. Fast forward several weeks later after services have been rendered and insurance had been paid I received a phone call stating that I owed almost $200 more. I was told my insurance paid less than what they were estimated. Our insurance had estimated that we were only supposed to pay $30 out-of-pocket. We ended up paying a little more than double that because if there is a difference in payment the services should've been covered. After explaining to the manager Carol that I understand how insurance estimates work and the surgery wasn't complicated I wondered why I was paying so much. She Just kept repeating herself that insurance was an estimate and that the responsibility of nonpayment was on me. I told her that I would be contacting my insurance and that if they were an out of network provider they should have stated that instead of saying they accepted my insurance. She was very rude and I ended up ending the call. This was over a year ago I had never heard anything else after that last phone call. Recently I received a letter stating that my account had gone into collections. Imagine my surprise when I never received any letters or bills from the dental office. After leaving a few messages I was able to get a hold of Carol again and she was still the same rude person as before. After explained to her again that I have managed my own dental office and understand how fees and insurance verification works she threatened to and I quote remove the "adjustment" they already put on my account and she could make the bill more. Long story short I asked for a copy of my ledger which Carol promised to send me that day I never received it. Instead received a copy from another office that was barely legible because the ink had ran out. But I could see that there are several issues that were incorrect on my file. Instead of having to deal with her and their shady office anymore my daughters father paid the balance. When he got there the girl didn't even know how to process the payment! I will never ever send any family or friends to this office. If you want to be ripped off with excess charges to remove a baby tooth and have 90% of your information incorrect on file by no means go this office. They are much better offices in town that are reputable and have a competent front desk staff and manager. read more

ZERO STARS!!! My husband went to shining smiles in Bolingbrook because he was in pain. He went in and was given a very high estimate.(almost $3,000) they had him apply for care credit that day. They took x rays, gave him some pain pills, scheduled the procedure for 3 weeks and sent him on his way. We wanted to get a second opinion so we needed to get the records transferred. That was a nightmare! They couldn't figure out how to email me the consent form and I ended up having to drive there to get it. Then I get a bill from care credit, shining smiles charged for a procedure that hadn't even been performed yet. They claimed that he prepaid for his procedure the day he had been in. We decided to go with the other dentist because it was 1/5th the price and he got my husband out of pain in 20 minutes. It took multiple phone calls to get the refund back. Then to find out they shorted the refund by$50.00 claiming he bought a smile card to receive a discount on the procedure. The procedure that wasn't performed. I was told that the manager Jacquelyn would call me back on 11-7-16 to discuss this further. Today is 11-15-16 and still have not heard anything from Jacquelyn. This place is overpriced and completely incompetent if you ask me!! read more
