I came to this dental office on the recommendation of my partner, who's been a patient here since childhood and always spoke highly of the care they received. Based on that, I was genuinely looking forward to becoming a patient myself. While the staff were kind and the care itself was great, I have to express major concern about how billing and insurance transparency were handled. I'm 30 and relatively new to having health insurance. I've always been cautious--some might say overly cautious--because I've heard too many horror stories about surprise medical bills and unclear insurance coverage. That's why I was very thorough in asking upfront about the cost of my treatment and whether anything might be billed later. I was told clearly that my insurance would not cover the deep cleaning due to a waiting period, which I understood. I made it very clear that I was fine paying out of pocket, but only if the amount I was quoted was the total and that there would be no additional charges later. I double-checked before both of my appointments and even again while paying--each time, I was reassured that the amount I paid was the full and final cost. Then I started receiving conflicting bills. One person told me I owed $325, another said $773, and yet another said $441. This inconsistency is incredibly frustrating and has completely undermined my trust in their billing process. If you're someone like me who needs cost clarity and peace of mind, I would not recommend this office. The care may be great, but the lack of transparency on billing is deeply disappointing. The update is that they recently gave me a treatment plan with all these added numbers and notes on this sheet which is totally different then the ones I've received in person after paying for my services honestly it's kind of ridiculous . I have always had an excellent experience at Hidden Lakes Dental. I see Dr. Petrilla and my usual hygienist is Melanie. Both are friendly, professional and do excellent work in explaining every procedure that is needed, while making me feel comfortable and alleviating anxiety. I had a recent situation where I needed and implant and the referral as well as entire process and the way it was handled with Dr. Petrilla showed me what a professional yet extremely caring person she is. My last appointment was for the first part of my crown. Both Dr Petrilla and her assistant/hygienist, Cynthia, put me at ease. Cynthia was on top of giving me water rinses and making sure to keep my mouth clear with the suction tool. They are constantly communicating to make sure you stay calm and comfortable. I have had other hygienists at this practice and every single one was friendly and accommodating, while doing a great job with the cleanings. My husband found this practice, and the rest of my family comes here as well. We are referring more and more people here, and everyone is happy with the treatment they are receiving. read more

Since Dental Practice is not regulated, Hidden Lakes Dentals get away by charging funny line items like Hygienist Consultation without doing anything. Lat month I did so called Deep Cleaning. Whole mouth was done in one hour and charged almost $1400. It was a lousy job, no better than simple cleaning. On top of it they want me to come back to check the cleaning and asked me to pay another $135! I had been to this dentist four years ago since then quality of work deteriorated, and fees have increased. I advise people to find another better dentist in the area read more

This is the worst place ever for customer service!!!! My husband had missed an appointment due to an untimely death in the family and I called them a couple of hours before and had told them about this. They demanded that I need to show a proof of death and argued that funerals are planned ahead of time! Well not in our culture!! We do the funeral on the same day! I was asked them to show a proof which I agreed to send it to them, only then they would waive the cancellation fee. I rescheduled for the following week. Forgot to mention that they charge me $10 sanitizing fee (covid time) when I had my daughter's appointment. They were also charging me $10 because I accompanied her which I refused to pay! This is ridiculous!! I tried cancelling my husband's next appointment a week before and they refused to do so and said they will not waive the cancellation fee of the previous appointment if I don't keep the next appointment. I closed all my accounts with them and they sent within a month the late fee to collections. I wouldn't recommend this place. They only work with people who can go their way!!!! read more

Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Had several cleanings with no issues. I however had a filling done here and had to come back 3 times due to pain I was having on the tooth they worked on, each time they tried something different without ever being able to tell what was actually causing the pain. After switching dentists, my new dentist told me that whoever had done the filling fractured my tooth and I had to get a crown on the tooth. read more

After paying her $580, no refund they referred me to an Endodontist who agreed Dr B missed canals. Hidden Lakes is not going to cover the endodontist costs $1250 for her error! I had a medical emergency that needed immediate care. My appointment ended being a very expensive consult and over $300 x-ray of one tooth. I was asked to schedule a second appointment. Initially I was rushed through signing paperwork because the doctor was ready to see me. I scheduled a second appointment which I ended having to cancel the same day. I'm now being charged $75 for canceling the one appointment. I called and asked if they could make a one time exception and remove the charge as I was rushed through signing paperwork and really didn't know. I know now moving forward. They refused to drop the charge. I was sent to collection with an additional $25 late fee. You would think the receptionist would've at least warned me about the cancellation fee when I called to cancel. I'm a nurse in the healthcare field and this truly shows they are in for the money. Shining Smiles is a very good dentistry. I used to go to the one in Riverside and found one in Bolingbrook. They are very caring and understanding and they work with your budget. I had a toothache and reached out to Dr. B for help. She replied right away and set me up with an appointment immediately. I had developed a cavity over the years and since I hadn't been to the dentist in a while I needed my tooth extracted. Luckily it was a wisdom tooth, and I was put on a monthly visit for an intense cleaning to get me caught up on missed appointments. Her dental hygienist is personable, professional, and very considerate each and every time I've come in for my cleaning. The whole staff is friendly, welcoming, and genuinely kind. I can't thank Dr. B enough for all the help and the amazing job she did when my tooth was extracted. I'm so grateful to everyone there for making my dentist appointments such a positive experience. One of the worst experiences, at Hidden Lake Dental. I previously had a $3k worth of treatment done with them. I missed an appointment and they said that I had to pay for it. As I was not aware of it, I spoke to them and they said that they will waive it off as it was my first time. I was happy that they understood my situation and was grateful. They then mentioned that if I were to cancel my appointment in the future, I will have to update them in not less than 24 hours. I had scheduled an appointment for root canal and unfortunately I had to cancel it again. They made an appointment at for 5PM on 02/17/2016 and I told them that I would not be able to make it at 8PM on 02/16/2016. Hidden Lake then told me I had given them a notice of less than 24 hours (21 to be exact) and I had to pay them for the cancellation. I wanted to see if I can negotiate with them and come to terms of postponing the appointment or re-scheduling it for a lesser fee. They did not accept it. Hidden Lake then called me a month later asked me to pay the fee for missing the appointment. I spoke to Karen (receptionist) and she said that she is not able to do anything about it. I then asked her if I could talk to the higher management and she said that she will get back to me on this (there was no confirmation on if I had to pay this amount or not yet). A month later I got a mail from Hidden Lakes that they sent this to collections and the moment I got this, I made a payment to Hidden Lakes immediately. A few months later I noticed that I had a collection on my credit report. I then tried to call Hidden Lakes and spoke to Karen about this and she told me that she is not able to do anything about this. I told her that I did NOT get a confirmation about this issue and she told me that's not how she remembered it and said that they agreed that I would pay it. Honestly, I was not in a position to argue with them I just wanted them to understand my situation and see if they can get it off my record. She(Karen) was pretty rude and said that she is not able to do anything about it. All I wanted is for them to be a little reasonable with me and they were not. They pointed out the fact that I updated them 21 hours before and not 24 hours. Emergencies do not come with a warning; I am sure they know this but it looks like they just want the $75. Hidden Lakes Dental Care in Bolingbrook is a wonderful dental facility. From the nicely decorated, some might even say soothing decor, to the front desk, the assistants and the dentist himself they're all number one in my book. Even though a bit older, at age 60, than perhaps most patients needing braces a couple of years back I did get braces in order to prepare for a dental implant. They really treated me well and made sure the whole thing went as smoothly as possible. Today I'm happy to say I've got my molar back on my right side making eating much easier. That's thanks to all those who treated me over the period of straightening my teeth via the braces and finally to the day I received my implant. I normally do not like to give bad reviews to anyone as I always try to find the positive in places. But I found myself inclined to voice my opinion and ensure this does not happen to someone else. This dental has the worst customer service. I have been waiting for over a week for the manager to contact me to settle a situation that I truly was upset over but the manager did not have the courtesy to contact me instead they had someone who is not the manager contact me. My husband had missed an appointment due to work-related issues but since I did not call within 24 hours they charged me a fee. Fine, I paid it but then, unfortunately, I had to cancel another appointment because he got hit with COVID. I called but because it was less than 24 hours they charged me yet another fee even though it was COVID related. According to them, they sent me to collections which I had no idea since I never got a bill, an email or a phone call. They also stated because they had sent my bill, (of a fee) to collections I had to pay all of my services upfront when I tried to make an appointment. I found this to be ridiculous and outrageous since I do have insurance. My son and daughter also attend that dental place but they were very quick at saying they can schedule an appointment for them without a problem which is ironic since they are under my insurance and I am the one that pays the bill. If we were such bad customers then why does this not apply to my kids as well. This is truly sad as I have pulled all of my accounts from there. I would not recommend this place to no one. I have to tell everyone if you are looking for a dentist, one that is extremely gentle, and pain free (and i really mean pain free)then Hidden Lakes Dental is for you, i was there today to have my permanent crown put on, and it feels great, then i had my hygienists do a cleaning and i mean it when i say it was a pleasant expierence, now you may be a little skeptical about my review, but i have to say i was not a big fan of going to the dentist, until my wife talked me into going to Hidden Lakes Dental, and i am so glad she did, from when you first walk in the door you are greeted by the most pleasant front desk staff, and then when your sitting in that comfortable chair looking out the window in front of you at the wooded area, that is very calming, your Dental assistant will talk you through what needs to be done, and then when you meet the Dentist you really start to feel the most relaxed what ever you need to have done these professionals do it the gentlest way, i like going to the dentist now because my teeth are in great shape, i have my beautiful smile back, and it really was an awesome expierence, give Hidden Lakes Dental a try you will not be dissapointed. read more

Would not recommend going here, went in for a cleaning with bcbs, I could have had everything done in one day, instead they spread out my cleaning to 4 visits to make me pay out of pocket. And had the nerve to call me and charge me 45$ for canceling an appointment because it was 19 hours before my appoint and not 24 hours notice. Grove dental is down the block by taco bell I recommend them!! Forgot to mention they change my Dentist and she didn't do as great as the first Dentist, felt like she was in a hurry ! So, I recently moved to Bolingbrook a few months ago and found them listed under a dentist in my network. Made an appointment for a general cleaning and went in. The first thing they wanted to do was a test that cost twenty dollars for a cancer screening. I said no. The nurse came in said that she would need new X-rays since I was new in the office. I said I recently had X-rays done and they could obtain that from my previous dentist. She insisted on doing new ones. Finally, when they started describing what needed to be done for my cleaning, they basically started upselling me on some work that would cost me hundreds of dollars out of pocket! I asked if I could just get a general cleaning, which is what I came in for. Believe or not, they said no! I've never experienced anything like this, even at a car dealership! All they did was upsell the whole time I was there. I contacted my insurance company and they have actually started an investigation into their practice. Mind you, I was there for almost two hours and received no treatment at all. I would never want anyone to go through what I did. I hate writing reviews, but I had to let it be known what is going on. read more

We started going to this office in 2015 and staff were really accommodated and helpful, No doubt that Doctor was took the time to explain the procedures. However, they were very pushy takin the X-ray done even though our were completed very recently prior to my first visit at Hidden Lake Dental office. As I reminded them they were done just few months ago and my concern that insurance may pay for this they said do not worry about it and we will take care of that. Also, Prior to my visit they recommended Deep cleaning, I also informed them this was done few months ago but they insisted upon it and told me that they have already ran through the insurance and after paying my balance insurance will pick up the rest, I asked them twice to confirm this and Coren was one of the front desk assured me that it was ran through the insurance but never did this. Upon my next visit I was told the insurance did not pay and asked me to pay $450.60, I asked to speak with doctor because I made sure few doctor with doctor as well as with nurse not to end up in the same situation, Coren told me that Dr Charles Crow will call me but never did, I called again after couple of weeks and she told me that Doctor Crow was informed about situation and he agree with billing and does not have time to speak with me (Very Disappointing) All of sudden their friendly outlook was changed to very rude/cold response quantified by not returning call as promised. Upon contacting my insurance they told me that this was never ran and they would have not covered the same procedure within the time frame or with in the same year. This came as surprised to me. Now I received letter from collection for the payment. I will never returned at this office and cancelled point for my entire family (5 family members) Based on our experience, office Staff as well as Doctor Charles Crowl are extremely irresponsible for managing insurance payment/billing prior to service. Worse than the IRS, at least they will work with you. If you like being taken to collections with threats of law suits while you are still sending them payments towards your bill and submitting insurance claims this is the place to go. If you want to work out payment plans forget it. You have two options, pay in full or pay in full. (Oops forgot they do have flyers for some bank card option, but they seem to fail to mention it.) If one of their procedures has an issue they send you somewhere else. Go here only if you are into self abuse and have a bottomless purse, otherwise I would seek out other professionals that care about their clients, not just their profit. read more

The dentists and hygienists are great, however, if you want to deal with rude front desk staff as well intolerable and restrictive business practices then this is the place for you. I had to recently cancel an appointment because I was stuck on a Metra train that was not moving. I called to inform the office and cancel the appointment, but still received a cancellation fee. If I had been in control of the train, then I would have been able to make my appointment, but since that is impossible so was keeping my appointment. Other issues we have had is the front desk staff calling multiple times to confirm appointments even after we had called to confirm already. Also, we had paid a bill (the full amount) and because the office had charged us incorrectly, we received another bill for the difference along with a late fee even though we had paid the amount that was listed on the first bill. We have been patients for 9 years, the best dentists & hygienists we have had, but because of their business practices, we will be looking for a new practice. read more

Dont get me wrong, the doctors are good but not as good as the prices they charge. They are way over and above the rates any insurance company pays so be very aware of this BEFORE you walk in. Ask for all their pricing up front and check this against your insurance company's max rates. I work for one of the largest companies in the US with phenomenal insurance and the rates these guys charge is still above all my limits. Thats why you will never wait for an appointment in this office and you are unlikely to ever see the same people in the waiting room! The best part is that they then turn into the payment gestapo. Up until September 2012, I had been seeing Dr. Gallos at Hidden Lakes Dental Care for about a year and a half. Dr. Gallos is a pretty good dentist and seems to be extremely knowledgeable about his practice. However, like other reviewers, I had problems with the front desk regarding a fee for a missed appointment. I had scheduled an appointment for two crowns and a cleaning. I arrived for our appointment and received the cleaning, but declined the crowns for financial reasons. Apparently, this did not sit well with the office staff because I received a missed appointment fee in the mail. They considered my visit to be two appointments: one for the cleaning, and another for the crowns. I called the office and politely spoke with the manager, Lynne, who refused to budge in adjusting this charge. Technically, they're right in that I declined the crowns. Technically, I'm also right in that I was there for the appointment but declined to receive some treatment. Either way, I explained to Lynne that I would gladly pay their $75 fee, but could no longer be their patient if they insisted. Lynne charged me the $75 and closed out my account. Anyway, I had the impression that Dr. Gallos was a good guy who really cared about his patients. Later, I called back and asked to speak with him so that I could explain why I would no longer be using his services. However, Lynn refused to let me talk to him. I asked if she could please leave him a message to call me back, but she again refused. I asked for Dr. Gallos' e-mail address, but she refused to provide that too. Lynne told me that she had already spoken with Dr. Gallos and explained to him that I would no longer be his patient due to the $75 fee. She told me that he was aware of the situation and was OK with it. !!! Now, I'm certainly not experienced with dental clinic management, but I am educated in general business management and customer service. I humbly offer these suggestions to the folks at Hidden Lakes Dental Care: 1 - Sacrificing an otherwise happy customer/patient for $75 is bad business and just plain foolish. 2 - A doctor refusing to speak with a patient is REALLY bad business. Seriously, WTF? Better dentists are plentiful in the Western suburbs of Chicago. There is no reason to tolerate funky attitudes and poor customer service. I'll be finding a different dentist who places a higher value on his/her patients. I closed my account with with HLDC over 5 months ago. Just today, I received an e-mail notice from them for an appointment I never scheduled. Reading other reviews, it's interesting to note that these missed appointment fees seem to vary wildly in cost. Are they making up these fees on the fly? Draw your own conclusions. Also, why are the many negative reviews for this place "filtered"? It's almost like they might have something they want to hide. I was a patient at Hidden Lakes and I truly agree everyone is extremely friendly and kind( unless) you have any sort of financial matter then they will refuse to see you until all finances are cleared up even if you are having a tooth problem. The products they use are top of the line and they use the best but unless you are in question with what your insurance covers and for what grade they cover you will be charged for what ever additional fees and not given the option for anything else that may have been able to be used at a lower cost to you the patient. I do believe they are very good but it is defiantly about what they can make from you. I also have a son who has autism at some point an appointment was made for him from what they can gather was possibly 6 months prior not made by me his parent and the insurance carrier .I never confirmed this so called apt. but have been charged a NO-SHOW fee of $45.00 . I tried to discuss with the very friendly staff that this was no different than a postcard appointment as far as I was concerned . I didn't make the apt .nor did I confirm the apt. and when I asked them to correct the misunderstanding they refused and sent it to collections. I do want to be seen by a friendly staff and want good dentists but not only when the money is a factor then I am no longer of importance to them and their true demeanor is shown. I have now taken my son to a different dentist and have found an issue that has confused the new dentist on how someone from his previous missed as well so I am glad it turned out the way it did not only will he be treated with the situations missed by hidden lakes but I would like to believe that yes they have every right to be paid and over the time my family was there they made a lot of money from us as patients but at what point are we not just seen as a bill but as the patient. Well, my family and (6 in all) had been going to Hidden Lakes Dental care for 6 or more years now. Never really had any problem with them before. I have had a lot of work done on my teeth as well as my wife. Recently my wife accidentally missed an appointment. (she wrote it on the wrong box on the calendar.) We never received that friendly reminder about the appointment. Which HLDC claimed they called but after reviewing our caller i.d. there was no call from HLDC. Anyway they wanted us to pay a 75$ fee for the missed appointment. Now I understand that they are holding a spot for us, and that is lost money for them but come on. We spend thousands of dollars there every year one would think them might cut us a break. Especially since I said (nicely) we will pay the fee, however we will move on to another dentist if the fee isn't waived. Nope, no budging so today we go on to another dentist. read more
