Shinji's is great spot for a drink with a date you really want to impress... or anyone you want to impress really. It's sexy, unique, intimate, visually stunning, and the drinks are crafted tableside for the most part with some flair and showmanship. Hello dry ice toss! You can sit at the bar or one of the few tables (really more like a booth) but I prefer the tables so you can see everything and also enjoy all the tableside service options. They have a tableside hand roll service which I LOVE. To be fair, I love table side anything. The hand roll is so fresh and delicious with fish flown in from Japan (SO YOU KNOW IT'S THE GOOD STUFF) and of course, the nori is nice and crispy. The prices are on the steeper side but this is a place where it actually makes sense. Between the quality, presentation, service, and ambiance, you get exactly what you pay for.

Shinji's was just awarded #90 on North America's 50 Best Bars 2025. The Hot Cold Toddy is non-negotiable genius drink...one glass, half piping hot, half ice-cold. Honestly so good & so fun. The Latte Martini was pretty underwhelming. Every cocktail is made tableside with carts and the service was absolutely incredible. Good for a special occasion or date night.

Really cool cocktail bar with great vibes. Love the ambiance as well. However the drinks were far too overpriced for the quality. The spicy marg they make was my favorite. Service was good.

Shinji was honestly a letdown. The decor is gorgeous, and the bartending cart they roll around to make your cocktails tableside is fun to watch, but overall not worth the hype or price. Every drink was nearly $30, and while the descriptions sounded super creative, the flavors were just odd. I got the Arroz con Bangkok and it literally tasted like cilantro savory soup. The drinks were super strong in alcohol content, but didn't feel balanced at all. As for the food, it was completely overpriced and underwhelming. The Little Gem Okonomiyaki was one tiny cabbage wedge with bonito flakes and some mayo on top. It was $26 and definitely not what I expected, it wasn't a pancake, didn't taste cooked through, just mostly raw cabbage. The mushroom rice bowl? $30 and SO small, super salty, and nothing special. I wish the menu had more descriptions of the food and drinks so people know what they're ordering. What even was that okonomiyaki? Also, don't go by the prices listed on their website. When we got there, the physical menu had noticeably higher prices. Service was a bit off. They gave us complimentary tea, but the waiter spilled some on the table and didn't pour evenly for everyone. When we mentioned it (since the place is super dark), he seemed kind of annoyed. Then they rushed us off the table after just one hour, I thought we had more time. Besides the cute interior and watching the bartenders do their thing, nothing really stood out. Food was definitely not worth the money at all. I personally wouldn't come back here.

Such a cute tiny cocktail bar in the city. The decor is mermaid ocean octopus vibe. Dark setting great for a date night. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar which we loved because we get to converse with the bartender. Our bartender/server was great his name is Miguel ! He mentioned his favorite drinks as well as his go to spots in the city. Drinks were great ! Very detail and loved the presentation. My favorite was the Tropicana drink which comes in an orange. So refreshing and made just right. We also tried the shinji gin fiz which was good too if you like foam. Another great choice was the arroz con Bangkok cocktail. They do also have small bites which is a plus. Highly recommend the mushroom rice bowl. It is a small a portion but full of flavor. There's also table side hand roll sushi and they were all delicious. Favorite was the bluefin tuna and scallop. We also tried their expensive Wagyu sando pricing at 135 dollars. It was great of course! but I don't know if I'll do it again it was one of those "why not" type of moment lolll. I did love their truffle cheese toast as we're both big on truffle so it was great. Also order their potato chips. They were so addicting. It is a pricey cocktail date but did enjoy the evening.

Wow I was mind blown by how unique yet strong the drinks are! I'm usually very picky with my cocktails and consider myself a cocktail connoisseur. A good drink to me is a tasteful drink that packs a strong punch. Shinji's drinks were all that and more, because the presentation of the drinks were also . They use dry ice to make the drink, and it makes the drink 10 times more cool. Here are the drinks we ordered: 1. Honeypenny- their take on vesper, and the most spirit forward drink they have. It is so much better than the vesper, and definitely strong 2. Tropicana- their specialty drink is the frozen orange/ballon. It tasted like juice, I literally drank it so fast, cuz it was thay good 3. Hot toddy: this drink was so unique. They used chemistry to keep half of the drink warm and half of it cold, so when you drink it, you can simultaneously feel both of the sensation. Apparently the only other bar that does this was a Michelin 3 star restaurant in London. 4. Soba cha cha cha- this was a vodka old fashioned that is paired with a pineapple made out of soba sprinkled with salt. I wouldn't say the salty soba goes well with the sweetish drink per say, but the drink was very tasty in its own. 5. Dirtiest martini- better than your typical martini, but not as good as the other drinks I mentioned above. 6. Jackie tree horn- don't remember much about this tbh. Maybe bc it wasn't super memorable. Service was immaculate. Our bar tender patiently explained the drinks and the technology behind them since I'm such a cocktail nerd. Highly recommend this place!!

We made reservation in advance and we picked "Table". When we got there, the host brought us to the bar. We asked him and he was like this is what you see. If there's table available, we will move you. What is the point of making reservation then? Or what is the point of giving the options "Table" or "Bar" then? Our bartender Bobby is very nice and attentive. That's the only thing I like about this place. The drinks are okay, nothing special. Not worth the hype!

Drinks were okay. Would've expected a better espresso martini for $30. Bartender was super nice. I like the vibe on the inside.

In these inflation times, cocktails have quietly risen to $20+ at most specialty spots with little change in quality or quantity. Shinji's is a good example of this. My Shiso Mojito ($25) lacked any discernible shiso flavor. The $30 Tropicana was better, but...it's $30. You could buy five boxes of orange-flavored Creamsicles for that price, let them melt, and get far more of the same thing. The Naked and Almost Famous was probably the best of the bunch, which isn't saying much. Our $11 chips (yes, $11) were, well, not worth $11, IMO, but at least we got a free refill? Service was nice, and the tableside shaking and mixing is a nice change of pace, but if I'm going to blow $25+ on an artisan cocktail, this won't be the spot.

first time. going to japan in a few weeks so hoped to meet shinji. no such luck. a dressed up take yourself seriously intimate cocktail bar of maybe 10 seats. mushroom rice delcisous and the only good value in the place wines by the glass are hilariously $40+ my wife had the piano type drink with liquid nitrogen and it was excellent and worthwhile i had this paloma which was served out of a bottle. pre mixed and tasted like orangina. super disappointing. the biggest miss was the juxtaposition of this supposedly dress up take yourself seriously vibe with the millennial bartenders who we bro-ing down with f-bombs amongst themselves like we were at some UES frat bar

This tiny spot only has a couple tables so it definitely feels special. The decor and table side service make the place unique as well. But really it's all about the cocktails. While pricey, they are super delicious. A standout is the "hot and cold toddy" where you sip the cocktail from a mug as one side feels hot and the other cold. This place is worth at least one visit!

Tiny tiny pieces of super expensive snack / appetizers bc it's Noda quality so be prepared for the prices. The drinks are also super duper expensive but quite strong / good enough. The host was super nice and bartenders were knowledgeable. Great ambiance for a date or pre dinner drinks - music was very millennial / hip hop. Would not recommend unless you're down to drop $50/pp minimum but if you are it's a great time!

Ok, I know this places hasn't gotten a lot of love in their reviews, but honestly, I really enjoyed Shinji's. Are their drinks expensive? Yes, they're all $28-40 a piece. But you're paying for the experience, with good quality ingredients, and I truly thought the drinks I had were well made. I started with the Shoba Cha Cha Cha, which is a vodka based old fashioned. It was very good! Not sweet, and had hints of coconut in it. It comes with a little pineapple-shaped thing to nibble on in between sips. That was interesting and reminded of some rice-meal something I'd had before. The edible part wasn't bad but overall I didn't love it. My next drink was the Jackie Treehorn. It's this creamy drink with coconut milk (I think?). I really enjoyed it! The service was good. Our bartender was friendly, and explained each drink that we had. I loved that each drink had its own glass and even own coaster. I enjoyed my experience here. It's definitely not somewhere that you'd frequent often just given their price range and relatively limited menu. But if you like quality drinks with a cool presentation, I'd recommend checking this place out!

The cocktail menu is very creative - I got one of their seasonal mixes that was actually two drinks in one. The main cocktail was meant to be sipped first and they provided a small glass of beer to be sipped after. The name escapes me but it was very good. For drinks, we ordered the Smoke Show and the King Tusk. The Smoke Show was beautifully balanced. The Grey Goose vodka and Dolin Dry gave it that classic martini backbone, but the fino sherry and brine added depth. Since I associated the address with Eleven Madison Park, I wasn't expecting to see items like wings stuffed with sausage, which were done in partnership with Jungsik. We ordered those along with the mushroom burger and asked them to cut the burger in half for us. The cocktail menu was creative and a little intimidating, with unconventional ingredients like cream cheese and green curry. I went with a fruity Hendrick's-based drink, and my friend ordered the spicy green curry martini. Both were good. Mine didn't taste very strong, but it also wasn't overly sweet because there was enough bitterness to balance it out. The green curry martini was more adventurous but still worked. Service was mixed. Angel helped guide our order, paced the food well for a group, and made us feel taken care of from start to finish. Drinks were a highlight: bright, refreshing cocktails (we loved the mint/cucumber moment and a spritz-y option). We ordered a few plates to share and everything hit. The bao were fluffy and satisfying, and the crispy chicken was a standout. Finished with a light, not-too-sweet dessert that was the perfect ending. Would recommend for a casual celebration or a coworker night out.
