I was completely misled with the amount of time I was told it would take Ship Smart to move my belongings from CA to OH. I was told they would have everything packed in 2-3 weeks, and then it would be 8-10 days from then. It took 5 weeks and there was a lack of communication from the company. I shipped items from NYC to the San Francisco Bay Area. My overall experience was poor. Here's why: 1. Damaged Goods- I shipped multiple pieces of furniture. Two of my nicest wood desks were completely destroyed. So I basically paid to ship furniture which I can no longer use (should have just left it in NY). I'm in the process of filing a claim but the paperwork is extremely messy and sets several high barriers to recoop any money. 2. Shipment Delays- my first shipment arrived 2 weeks after pickup but 1/3 of the shipment was missing so I had to wait another week. 3. Fragile Items- forget about it. I had several boxes marked fragile and they were completely ignored. I haven't had an opportunity to unpack anything but I'm sure there will be several unpleasant suprises. I'm adding a photo of the Loss/Damage Claim Form just so people can see the amount of effort it takes to even file a claim. read more

I hated my experience with shipsmart! It took them almost a month to deliver my shipment. Also, they lost one of my items and my shipment arrived with several broken and damaged items including a book shelf that was broken beyond repair and a vanity set that was also very damaged. Ten of my glasses were broken. When I tried to file a claim I was told my damages could be covered by my deductible and so there would be no remedy for all my broken stuff. All I have to say is that I went with shipsmart because I wanted a cost-effective way to move my things but after the damages and fees I ended up having to shell out after, I would've been better off paying more for a more effective and careful moving company. I would NOT recommend this company if you want your shipment items to be delivered in full. I hired Ship Smart for a small, 1-bedroom apartment move (1700 lbs) from Seattle to Los Angeles area in October 2019. Two dressers / storage carts containing most of my summer clothes (casual, business, evening apparel) were lost during the shipment. Ship Smart does not have and/or did not follow the most basic operating procedures that any professional shipping company should have in-place to accurately track the inventory list. They did not keep full and accurate documentation of items from pickup location throughout the storage, packing, transport, unpacking, and delivery process. The inventory list that I signed on pickup day in Seattle was not available to the delivery crew in Los Angeles, who created a new inventory list when they received the shipment at their warehouse. Due to this gross negligence, Ship Smart did not even notice the missing items during the 4-week period while they had custody of my shipment until I reported the missing items on the delivery day. In their last communication on 6/4/2020, they claimed they were "waiting on another consignee to unpack their shipment to see if the missing dressers may have been accidentally included in that shipment". It has now been more than 13 months since my partial shipment was delivered (11/25/2019). ShipSmart was not able to locate the missing items and has not communicated with me since June 2020. Just received my shipment From northern Illinois to Scottsdale Arizona. Exceeded all expectations throughout. After the pickup at my sisters home she sent an email about what a great job they did entering her home, getting and packing the piece of furniture. It arrived today in great shape and the delivery person showed up on time and completed the delivery. I did contract for white glove at both ends and it was worth every penny. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when I needed to ship a small amount from Chicago to San Francisco. The set up was all online and then arranged by phone with a local shipper. Everyone was very professional and accommodating. The items were picked up and packed at the warehouse. The list of items taken was not exactly what was estimated so I made my own and the pick up team was happy to use it. I wasn't so sure about this but everything including a computer and tv arrived in perfect condition. The delivery scheduler was great and the delivery crew were very nice. I'm glad I used ship smart. It saved thousands. My only comment is that it would have been great to have paperwork from them with the exact items instead of the estimated list from website. I used Shipsmart to move a bunch of boxes from NYC to AZ. I was referred to them by another mover bc my load was on the smaller side. I dealt with Robert in the beginning with my quote and Trish from the moment it left NY. The quote part was very organized and as I kept changing things they remained extremely professional and helpful. When my items were picked up, without incident, they contacted me when it was weighed and gave me my final price. Then Trish took over and gave me a time line for the trip cross country and how it would work once it got to AZ. Everything happened as described. The items were delivered and there was some damage to boxes and one small furniture item but Trish stayed on top of it and never left me hanging. My calls and emails were responded to in a timely manner and I never felt left out in the cold. She was patient and kind with me, bc I was a little emotional, and worked WITH me, not against me on finding a solution. I was more than impressed and it helped make this much less painful. Everything was resolved to my liking and it was done with decorum. Moving is a tough business where it's rarely perfect from start to finish but Shipsmart worked with me when there was a problem and that is the kind of company I want to work with. When we received a final price for double what our regular price was, we were upset. However, once we told the woman on the phone that we would like to speak with management about this obvious mistake, we received a call back the same day with a price adjustment and apology for the staff's mistake. Since the weight was off from what they had originally quoted, they did need to raise our quote, but it was within the "couple hundred" guideline that we were told! Thank goodness for management at ShipSmart!!! I just hope that in the future, the employee(e) who doubled our estimate thinks twice and asks for help so another customer doesn't get upset. Management should review these "final prices" before it goes to the customer if the price is any more than $500 (which is a lot) more than what was quoted. I'm now happy with everything about my experience except for not being told before I booked the reservation, that we would have to wait for over a month - that is not cool. First of all, I thrilled to let you all know that, in addition to receiving a near instant response from John, the owner of Ship Smart, regarding my negative review, his partial refund check was in my box, yesterday. The promptness of his response deserves five stars, especially because my move happened in Sept 2012 and, I had just got around to writing the review, after several months of struggle, (another story all together). Finally, there are two sides to every story. Mine is that I was (and still am) an emotional wreck...there are several things I ought to have done to ensure that I received the services originally promised... Let's just say that I was in no position to relocate across the country, nor could I stay on top of much, aside from getting here. As far as Ship Smart is concerned, I believe the owner cares about his business and took care to get in touch with me, listen to my concerns, then did what he could to remedy the problem, which is more than I can say for many business I've dealt with during the course of my life. Yay John - and double YAY to Yelp! My advice for dealing with movers is this: Know what you want, what you have, where you want to go & be certain to follow up on every detail. These are things I was not clear about, until I got all the way here...again, another story. I shipped a bunch of music gear, books, and assorted home items with ShipSmart from San Francisco to Denver in August 2013. Pros: - The two boxes that shipped my things were superbly packed. Items not in their own boxes or bags were wrapped in high quality packing paper. It completely surpassed my expectations. Everything arrived in the exact condition that I gave it to them. - Everyone that I dealt with in the company was very courteous and professional. This included three customer service reps and the two men that picked up my stuff. Cons (for which I subtracted one star): - I was not given a firm date for when I would receive my things in Denver. I didn't know if it would be six days or six weeks. I had to send multiple emails to customer service reps to get updates on where my stuff was. The company could benefit from an automated tracking system. Regardless, I was extremely pleased with my experience. I would definitely use them again. I learned the following in the process: - They essentially charged me $1.85 per pound. I did a terrible job guesstimating the weight of my items, so the price came out to be 2.5x the initial quote. However, this was entirely my own fault. The better you can estimate the weight of your items, the closer your initial quote will be to the actual price. - As far as I can tell, ShipSmart does not actually pack or ship the items; they just pick them up. The packing and shipping is contracted out. This can make it difficult to track your items. Next time I will ask for contact numbers of people in each stage of the shipping. - I generously tipped the guys who picked up my stuff. I considered that added insurance. I'm not sure it made a difference, but it gave me peace of mind. read more

I have moved state to state several times. Anyone who has knows what a frustrating and stressful mess it is to do so. Ship Smart was the best experience I have had. I had to move on short notice, and could not take my family heirloom furniture with me as NYC apartments don't usually come in a size to accommodate them. Instead, I had to ship the china hutch and dining room set PLUS all valuables contained therein back to my family in Colorado. To add to the stress of this situation, the heirlooms had belonged to my very recently deceased grandmother. I called with 7 days notice to move the furniture. They worked diligently with me and my tight deadline. The move was quick and the movers were professional AND friendly. My father would not shut up about the wonderful condition everything showed up in. He was pleased with the friendliness and courtesy of the movers on his end as well. The time to arrive in Colorado was about 3 weeks, which I was told over the phone before signing the contract. I have had a shipment like this take nearly 3 months before with other companies... 10/10 would use again. read more

My experience with Ship Smart should be a 5 star at best and 4.5 star at worst. The only negative was the final cost didn't match the estimate. That said, from my first contact with John, then with the company which picked up my shipment and packaged it, to the company that delivered it to my daughter in Idaho, I was very pleased. The shipper super-wrapped the table and chairs and my daughter said it arrived in very good condition. Delivery was 3 days earlier than estimated and within a few minutes of the time she was told it would arrive at her house. All personnel were professional and polite including removing their shoes before coming into my home. For small or single item moves I definitely would recommend Ship Smart. read more

After seeing my review, ship smart contacted me about the issues I had, and in the end refunded about 16% of the total bill in consideration of lateness, bad communications and damage. The experience still isn't what we expected, but they did provide some relief and that was appreciated. There are few things about Ship Smart that anyone who uses them should know: 1) cost is largely determined by the weight of your stuff. Ship smart puts your goods onto pallets and builds cardboard box around them so they can be shipped on typical cross country rigs. Because of that, the weight you pay for will be about 25 - 30% more than the weight of your stuff. Be aware of that. 2. Their estimating tools are completely broken. The weights used are off, the list of things to choose from is far too limited. It's a good idea to know the weight of what you plan to ship. They told us that their customer service people were good at helping with estimates - that was not our experience. They wrote a contract based on way too little information. The result was that we got a bill for $2700 when we expected (and had been given an estimate of $1700). Unless you know in detail what you have and work it through with ship smart, your estimate is essentially meaningless. 3. Your stuff will likely go through four different hands. An independent company will pick your stuff up, ship smart will crate it, a shipper will move it, and another independent company will deliver it. Any assurance by ship smart that they'll take care of your stuff isn't all that valid. They do a good job of crating, but there are lot of non-ship smart people involved. 4. The beset use for ship smart is to move smaller very specific lots where you can work out with them how to handle your stuff. We had a large blank canvas in one of our shipments. Ship smart built a custom box for it make of 1/2 plywood, they wrapped the canvas in paper and plastic, then put in the custom box. The 15 lb blank canvas arrived safe and sound in a 100 lb box. we never authorized, nor would we have if we had been asked. The burden of communication and instruction is on you. Don't count on ship smart. That said, had this been a valuable painting, I'd have been thrilled with how they handled it. For our purposes (general bedroom and office stuff), ship smart wasn't a good choice. It turned out to be far more expensive than we expected and we never had any idea of what the actual cost would be and when stuff would be delivered. For other things, the service might be fine - but make sure you ask a million questions up front. read more

Since my review, I'd like to update my review to reflect my most recent experience with Shipsmart. The customer service rep who contacted me was pretty awesome--friendly and very apologetic. Not only did they apologize for the discrepancy between the amount estimated and the final price that I was charged, but they offered me a refund for the difference. I appreciate them reaching out to me. They also apologized for the delay in shipping (which they explained occurs more often with consolidated shippers). I shipped a piano and bench from Western MA to Central WI. After a call, I received my estimate online. Arrangements were through Ship Smart via a local movers. All calls, inquiries, and arrangements were handled professionally and in a timely fashion. We had to change pickup date due to a family issue...no problem to reschedule. Delivery date was much before estimated time and specific date/time was arranged without problem on the other end. We chose the "white glove" option...movers came into our living room, carefully moved the items to their truck, then crated items at the warehouse, delivered and uncrated and placed them into living room at the delivery site! No damage noted. Estimate was, however, a little lower than actual charge (due to weight and some increase in the 6 months between estimate and actual move date). Would recommend and use this company again. read more

Booked with Ship Smart to move some things from State to State. After a few weeks, received my stuff and to my dismay, one of the large picture frames was broken. Luckily I purchased insurance and when I submitted the claim the amount they said they would reimburse me wasn't even close to the cost it would be to reframe my painting nor the amount I paid to insure my stuff. After emailing with Trish and submitting the estimate, she assured me that they would cover the cost to reframe my painting. Really happy they did the right thing and shout out to Trish who was very understanding and customer friendly. What I thought was going to be a long drawn out process was taken care of and it's refreshing to know that some companies actually care about their customers and are not just in it to take your money. My experience with this company was absolutely the worst of any firm in my lifetime. ShipDumb would be a more appropriate name. I would give them a double zero rating. I hired them to ship my furniture and belongings from Seattle to Scottsdale, AZ. They used local movers and warehouses resulting in little control. I received the final and most critical batch after 71 days. Missing were my personal checks. Damages, in spite of a huge amount of bubble wrap, included a broken candelabrum, broken family picture frames, 5 or 6 serving platters broken and destroyed, black stains on a sofa and two chairs. My custom dining table was left in the rain with boxes on top resulting in damage requiring a complete refinishing. Get this! Four boxes arrived with rat holes; some boxes destroyed by the rats with continents separate. The rats left mites which penetrated my skin causing severe itching. I had declined their insurance that would have paid me, I believe, $2.00 per lb. Laughable. They offered to pay me a portion of estimated repairs. My patience had expired long before. I was not able to deal any more with this company. 71 days without my computer and records, and missing checks caused more trouble than the physical damage. I recently moved from Dallas to Los Angeles. I had 8 boxes, a table, my bed/bed frame and 2 chairs and was quoted around $1800. This price was high, I had just moved to Dallas 6 months before and paid $1400 for more boxes and furniture, but I needed to get back to LA, so I booked them and paid. They picked my up my stuff and almost a week later, I received a call from customer service saying that my belongings outweighed their original estimate and I had a balance of over $700 to offset the overage. They wouldn't ship my stuff until it was paid (holding it hostage much?) I find it hard to believe that the items I was moving would be a $700 difference from the quote I was initially given. That being said, the crews who picked up my stuff in Dallas and delivered in Los Angeles were absolutely amazing. Five stars for them. I would not use them again because their pricing is high and the level of service doesn't seem to justify the expense. read more

If you have the choice between using Ship Smart, and tying your packages to the bumper of a 1993 Suburban headed in the general direction you're trying to go, and also the Suburban isn't *driving*, it's being pulled by one unusually-old-due-to-the-marvels-of-some-terrible-science llama, go with the llama. Every single step with this company was terrible. First they didn't call to schedule a pick up date, they just kind of showed up one day when I wasn't home, so my mother made sure the boxes were taken. Then it took several weeks of calling them (and never being called back) to figure out where the hell my stuff actually was and when it would be delivered, to the point where I honest to God thought I'd been robbed. Then my boxes are delivered, except two are missing--one of them a very nice electric keyboard. It's okay, though, they know where *one* of them is (which? WHO KNOWS?!) and it's being mailed to me, it will be here in two days, the other they have no idea where it is. Not only that, but, one of the boxes I had packed was a garment box with a hanging rod so that I could carefully hang all of my nicest suits and coats, some of these custom made. They are the nicest thing I own. This box--somewhy--was thrown out. Why was it opened at all? No one knows. But the contents of that box, which I had carefully packed and hung, were thrown into a heap of tangled fabric in a much smaller box. During this whole process of not knowing when my boxes would be picked up, or delivered, or where they were, or why my box of clothes was open and shoddily repacked, or why the mailed package still hadn't been delivered yet, I made several calls to their customer service and was told many times I would be called back. This was done precisely never. They did call me once, though. While my 1.5 thousand dollar piano was still missing, I got called to confirm that they should charge me 140 dollars for the stair fee of the delivery. This part *particularly* ticked me off. Poor Jasper of customer service got a lovely little voicemail from me. My piano, thankfully, arrived (not in two days though. In a week. They'd sent it to the wrong. address.), the other box, however, is long gone. Having misplaced 600 dollars of items in that box, and cost me two hundred to get my suits/jackets/tuxedo pressed and cleaned, Ship Smart offered me 350 bucks for the troubles. A nice gesture, but not enough for me to recommend them, unless you want to go through a circus getting your stuff shipped only to find yourself out 600 dollars of goods (not to mention any sentimental value (there was much)), or perhaps if you are doing a case study in companies that do their job very, very badly. So, see. Go with the impossibly old llama. This place was f**king nightmare. It was impressive, actually, how bunglingly incompetent they were at every step of the way. read more

I had to ship an antique bedroom set (bed and dresser) from New England to the Gulf Coast which was too small a load for any large moving company. Ship Smart was recommended to me. I called and their helpful customer service representatives walked me through the process. They provided quotes in a timely manner, helped me with insurance and sent emails to confirm everything. Within a week or so, 3 movers from a local agent company for Mayflower, came to my house and carefully packed each piece in my front yard, as requested (due to Covid). The pieces included a large dresser mirror that is very fragile. 10 days later, the furniture safely arrived at its destination 1400 miles away. There was a small snafu in getting the furniture to the recipient's house due to issues with a narrow street. At one point the dispatcher in the warehouse to which the furniture was delivered called the recipient and indicated he would have to come pick the furniture up. Calls to Ship Smart's customer service eventually cleared up this misunderstanding because we had paid for door to door delivery. It did take two days to figure this out, but one customer service rep named Kendra personally made sure that the furniture was delivered to the front porch. She also kept me updated on my end over the course of two days. On the day the furniture was finally delivered, Kendra sent me an email confirming it and apologizing for the confusion. This is an example of Ship Smart's great attention to detail and customer service. When the furniture arrived at its destination, the recipient reported to me that "The furniture was so well packed that it took me 4 days to upwrap it!" After I posted my last review, Mike, who said he is Ship Smart's operations director, called me. He apologized for the communication glitches that occurred. Since the cost of shipping my queen size bed mattress and box spring turned out to be $870 rather than the $600 cited to me in the written estimate (after I had measured all the dimensions of the bed and turned them into the SS shippers in Atlanta), he credited me $100. The driver delivered the bed a day later and was very polite. I told MIke that if Ship Smart had given me a $770 estimate, the cost that I now paid, it would have been cheaper to donate the bed to the Salvation Army or Amvets and buy a new one. But the estimate is not Mike's fault. My advice to prospective Ship Smart users is, weigh the item yourself and ask to know the weight of the packaging SS uses before you sign a contract. That way, there will be no price surprises and you can budget accordingly. Also, SS was honest about saying there was a lag time between pickup and delivery. But the time went beyond the normal length partly because there apparently was a changeover in staff so my new contact info was not given to the new staffer. (On the plus side, Ship Smart held the bed for me while I waited to move into a new apt, something that many moving companies are not able to do). 0 So if you are not going to be able to accept the delivery within about a week, be prepared for a longer wait. Donating items and buying new might be cheaper but if you are not on a tight moving budget, SS is a viable option. read more

I'm updating my review because Ship Smart eventually contacted me after I wrote my last review and have offered to adjust their price. It seems that the problems were caused by them sub-contracting my move to another moving company that operates in my area (Brooklyn, NY), and the higher-than-expected bill was the result of the sub-contractor charging a lot for palletizing our goods. I'm not sure what the rationale behind that was on the sub-contractor's end, but Ship Smart agreed to absorb those extra costs and just charge me a linear rate per volume of my goods, based on their original estimate. I appreciate the personal contact and flexibility on their end, but it could have come sooner and without my having to write a review on Yelp. My shipment is now going to arrive well over 3 months after the date it was picked up at my house in Brooklyn. My takeaway is that this isn't an untrustworthy company, but you should find out from them if they will be picking up your stuff themselves, or sub-contracting that to another company, and also to get guarantees about price changes that you may incur if your packed goods end up being more than you originally estimated. read more

BAIT AND SWITCH RATES COMPANY DOES NOT HOLD TO ESTIMATES AND CHARGES 3 TIMES THE QUOTED PRICE! BEWARE! I'm moving items that are packed and in storage from Seattle to Boston. So I called around and got a quote from this company and others. They quoted me a lower price, it was on the order of $800-$1K less, saying that my move was probably a lot less weight than the other companies anticipated and they specialized in small moves. I trusted them, since I hadn't even had a full apartment's worth of things, just a bedroom. They came to pick up my things, which were already boxed and packed in a storage unit. I even helped load the truck to make it easier on them. The men informed me that they needed to update the inventory a little, for a couple of extra boxes and a bookshelf I forgot was there, but they asked for my signature and said I could go. After a week, when I had already flown back to Boston, they informed me that my things were ready to ship, and that the total cost would be 3 TIMES WHAT THEY QUOTED ME. I told them that I don't have that kind of money, and that the price they wanted is over twice what the competitors had quoted me. I asked why they hadn't said anything earlier when it was apparent that the estimate they gave me would not hold. They never even gave me a final inventory list or updated quote to approve. They claim that they have already packed and palatalized my belongings, and that the total weight with all of their packing materials has come out to 3 times the weight anticipated, and they didn't weigh it at all until after they had done the packing. I asked about having another company do the move since I can't afford what they're asking for, and THEY CLAIM THAT I OWE THEM THE ORIGINAL QUOTE JUST FOR PICK UP AND PACKING SERVICES. THAT WAS NEARLY ALL OF MY BUDGET FOR THIS MOVE. That was the price they quoted me for pickup, packing, transportation, and in-home delivery! I would understand if the price went up a little because the estimate was a little off, but 3 times the quoted rate is unacceptable! When I called, the person on the phone said they couldn't do anything about the price but would have their manager call me because the manager was out at that time. I agreed. No call that day. No call the next day. Weekend. No call on Monday. On Tuesday I get an email saying that I owe them the 3X amount they quoted AND if I don't pay it immediately they will also charge me storage fees for my shipment that hasn't gone out. ??????? Don't trust this company! They intentionally underestimate weights of your items to give you a smaller quote and then take your belongings hostage! I don't buy things like a bed frame or a book thinking, "Hm, I wonder how much this weighs" which is why I trust a moving company to estimate it for me. This moving company cannot be trusted and doesn't hold itself to its quotes or inform you of an updated estimate. If you have a budget, this company is not for you. read more

Let me start by saying I almost NEVER edit my reviews. However I feel this is the rare circumstance that merits it. I used ship smart essentially because they seemed to live up to their name. I had a small amount of things to send across the country and I didn't want to spend a fortune. They quoted me a price that was cheaper than renting a U-Haul and doing it myself and I jumped on it. Upon getting quoted a price $600 higher than what I expected, I blasted them here on yelp (I was but a novice then). Shortly after my review (and prior to them being aware that I had ripped them) they lowered the price $300. However, a bit later after hearing about the situation the owner called me personally and did a really good job explaining why things came in above the estimate. I used ShipSmart to move heirloom furniture from Atlanta to rural Indiana. Everything went smoothly, my items were VERY securely wrapped, crated, and otherwise protected from damage, and all my furniture arrived in one piece. Ultimately, the delivery cost $200 more than the initial estimate, but that's only about a 10% increase and it was because I underestimated the weight of the shipment. I'm prepping for a move across the country to DC and in my search for a moving company I decided to contact a big well-known company United Van Lines. Bob Ford was my contact there and was honest enough to say that since I didn't have many furniture items I should go with a small shipping company. He referred me over to Ship Smart and I've been dealing with John Kessler over there. The service has been really good and I've referred this company to other friends. It's perfect if you don't have a whole house to move and you have just a few items that are too large or heavy for the Post Office but not big enough for a large moving company. read more

Everything made it, even after dealing with SF's "hellastorm" rain and my record player being carried sideways! I recently moved into my house in TN and unpacked my items. My record player, speakers and bike are all just fine and work well! Maybe record players are tougher than I thought. None of my belongings were broken, damaged or lost. The delivery guy was very nice (and spoke English). He initially called earlier than the date I had planned on. I had Ship Smart note that I would be out of state until Jan 3rd. The delivery guy called on Dec 29th asking if he could deliver tomorrow. I said "no, I'm in another state!" Fortunately, it was not a rush, and he was able to keep my belongings in the truck until I arrived in Tennessee. I would recommend Ship Smart to others making small cross-country moves. The pick up and delivery were very quick. One more thing I really appreciated is that Ship Smart did not bombard me with emails and calls 2x/day like other moving companies did. Some of these were fake companies, I think, so on that note - be warned, there are a lot of scam companies out there. Thanks, Ship Smart! I'm glad my things made it to Tennessee. read more

My shipment arrived 3.5 weeks after they were picked up and smelled like mildew (the boxes absorbed the smells from the warehouse where they were stored). Some of the boxes were dented but nothing was damaged. I would have given them a higher rating had there not been a problem with shipping our flat-screen tv. My boyfriend and I made numerous calls to Ship Smart about our concern with their shipping our tv. They reassured us it wouldn't be a problem. However, after they had already picked up our things and phoned with the final total, the cost was $600 more than the original quoted estimate. It turns out, they added an additional crate, which added additional costs. They insisted that this crate was necessary to house the tv that we were shipping. I played cat and mouse on the phone with one of their customer service representatives for days about the mysterious additional costs. I explained to her that we mentioned the tv to them several times, yet no one included it in the original estimate. She tried to accuse me of misinforming them (and lying, basically) because I didn't add the tv to my insurance claim. Now, why would I add the tv to my insurance claim when Ship Smart doesn't insure flat-screen tv's at all! I was also advised, during my numerous phone calls to their company representative, to exclude the tv from my insurance claim because it wasn't necessary to include it. She asked me whom I spoke to and I gave her the name of 2 people, both of whom had been conveniently laid off since I spoke to them. We would have been okay with them, too, had they told us up front about the crate for the tv and about the extra costs. Instead, they disregarded our information and misled us with their prices. Thanks for shipping our things to us, but we will not be using Ship Smart again. read more

Moving to Singapore is not easy, and Ship Smart did not make it any easier. It started off well enough, and their customer service people were very friendly and efficient on the US side of things. Two big problems emerged: 1) The shipment was very late. They gave me 6-8 weeks as the likely deliver time (after originally telling me 4-6) weeks, and it ended up taking 10 weeks. When you're in a new place and have no stuff, this is a big deal. 2) Stress and headaches. They asked an exorbitant fee (US$750) just to deliver my things from the Singapore port to my apartment (this is for a very small shipment), so I elected to do it myself. I assumed they would send me the necessary forms and guidelines and documentation to do this. They did not, and did not seem to have any idea how one would do this, so I had to figure it out for myself, which is not easy at all. Eventually I was able to get it unloaded and delivered for half the price, but for a lot more stress and headaches. UPDATE: After seeing my original one-star review, ShipSmart contacted me and sent me a check for their profits from the move. Still a frustrating experience, but clearly a company that is responsive to customer feedback, so that's a good thing. read more

Had Ship Smart box up and ship several paintings going all the way out to Vermont from California. They picked up the paintings without any packaging and took them to their warehouse. At the warehouse they packaged up the paintings into a custom made plywood crate and shipped it out to VT. Everything arrived as expected and in good condition about two weeks later. They also charged about $1,000 less than the UPS Store quoted me. Awesome! read more

They specialize in small moves, so if you have a studio or 1br, this is a good choice. The bad part: during the busy months of summer ( moved in July) it might take longer than couple weeks for your stuff to arrive. The good part: they do care about their customer, they will call to make sure you are satisfied with the service. read more

ShipSmart was recommended to me by several of the larger mvoving companies based on what I was moving. ShipSmart was punctual in their pick up and packed all the items very well. Also time to delivery was acceptable. When there was confusion about the drop off, they responded quickly with solutions. It was always easy to reach them by phone. this place....i can't even. unprofessional and rude. our furniture was in limbo for two months and they were slow to respond/explain where it was - after pestering them with emails they finally responded and tried to blame it on us, somehow? it made no sense. we were forced to sleep on an air mattress for two months with no apology! hatred! i hate this company! HATE! when it did show up though, the movers were very nice. they assembled our king size bed which wasn't included in the cost. make sure to tip them in cash though - we put included our gratuity on a credit card and they explained that they would probably never get it. read more

Used Ship Smart recently to move a few pieces of furniture from Chicago area to So California. It took me a while to get my own wheels in motion to make the order active, but in that meantime, they were always polite and responsive to my check ins on if the shipping bid pricing and terms had changed over the months gone by, and with my phone call to be sure I understood the pricing and terms before placing the shipping order. Carly was very much in contact regarding the process, the shipping timing and when the charge would be run. Very happy with that follow up. Daylight Transport out of Long Beach actually executed the delivery here. Gentleman was friendly and polite. I had been concerned about the 3 nesting tables in the shipment, them making it securely. 2 of the 3 of them lost a leg. Hopefully my handyman will be able to repair that this week. Price quoted initially was same as pricing in the end (packaging items up from a storage facility on the other end, to delivery curbside on a pallet, all wrapping in plastic and cardboard shipping boxes, and the insurance).
