What a great local spot in Brooklyn with the freshest of seafood. Tried this place while in town suggested from a friend who posted earlier this summer and knew I had to try it. Lots of choices to choose from. We opted for the fried snapper and fries per a guest who over heard is trying to decide: what a great sandwich! I'm writing this review because what happened to me was confusing, aggressive, and completely unacceptable--and I am still trying to make sense of it. On Saturday, January 17th, around 6:00 PM, a staff member and I finally sat down for a long overdue lunch. While my staff parked the car, I ordered a small clam chowder from the soup and salad bar, which is a new addition run by a different vendor sharing the same restaurant. I paid for the soup with a $100 bill. I then ordered two fish sandwiches: salmon for my staff and flounder for myself, both with split sides of French fries and salad. For context, I've been to this restaurant at least six times. On my second visit, I even brought a bottle of tequila as a welcome gift when Shipwreck moved into the neighborhood. I've never had any serious issues here. The only prior problems were minor and resolved immediately. On one visit, I ordered a fish sandwich with a split side of salad and French fries, but the person taking my order tried to charge me for a full meal instead of a sandwich. The owner's sister stepped in and told him not to charge me for the meal, only for the sandwich. To make sure the server wasn't penalized, I tipped the difference between the two prices, which amounted to a very good tip. Another time, I needed a printed receipt and accepted a handwritten note on a napkin. Now to what actually happened on Saturday. The sandwiches arrived in paper takeout boxes with the flaps open. The server placed my staff member's sandwich right on the edge of a small round table. When my staff sat down, the box tipped over and the entire sandwich fell onto his lap and onto the floor. I asked the server--who had waited on me on several occasions--if the sandwich could be remade. He said we would be charged for it. I asked to speak to the owner. The server appeared irritated and said the owner would arrive in five minutes. When the owner walked in, the situation immediately went off the hook. Instead of asking what happened, he started yelling that he knew what I did. He claimed I was on camera. I asked what he was talking about and told him to show me the video. He then called me a piece of shit, accused me of starting a situation in a coffee shop, and said he'd seen me on Twitter. None of this made any sense. I told him he was confusing me with someone else. He then said he knew where I was located and told me to get the fuck out of his restaurant. I left and went to the car, completely stunned. My staff member was just as shocked and went back inside alone to try to understand what had just happened. The owner threatened to fight him. He also told my staff that if I wrote a negative Yelp review, he would "come after me." I have no idea who this man thought I was or what imaginary incident he was referring to. What I do know is that I was verbally attacked, falsely accused, threatened, and thrown out over a sandwich that fell because it was placed irresponsibly. I am still confused--but I will not be bullied, intimidated, or silenced. That is why this review exists. read more

I love the friendly vibe of the place and the layout of fresh seafood to choose from. Also, my order was prepared quickly. While I was there, a customer came in raving about the softshell crab sandwich, so I got that. I also ordered a fried whiting sandwich for my mother. Both our orders were way too salty. While I ate mine, my mom couldn't enjoy hers. Since that was my first time having softshell crab, I'm going to try it again somewhere else to compare. The owner personally sources the best fresh fish and seafood daily from the Hunts Point market which explains why its so good. Not as well known are their chunky thick New England chowder loaded with fresh clams, delicious sandwiches/ po boys, oyster & shrimp, lobster rolls and platter specials served with Old Bay fries at ridiculously good prices, to eat in or go. It taste like somebody in the back went fishing that morning. No lie. I still got lil bits of sea salt in my mouth. I've been here a few times, but this time I got the salmon burger. Again, hella fresh. My only complaint which might be controversial is that there is alot of Old Bay seasoning...both on the food and in the store. I've always wanted to attempt homemade sushi, and I saw on yelp that Shipwreck has sushi grade tuna and salmon. Picked up a pound of the red tuna, which ended up being a little bit over a pound but was marked/priced as pound, and a lobster tail, and was even given a $5 discount on top of that for being a new customer. Clearly my sashimi cutting skills will need some work, but the tuna was delicious, fresh, and flavorful, as was the lobster tail. Both the service and food here are high quality. I only ordered online uber. The fry jumbo shrimp and old bay fries where delicious I ordered it 2 times one time shrimp was nice and crunchy one time they was a little soggy but still okay. Maybe they should use a vented box. I also ordered the fried shrimp and fish combo it'd funny the shrimp was not cooked the same way as the 10 PC shrimp combo seem to not have the same corn meal base coating which was a let down. The cod was ok I didn't like the taste of the whitings not sure if it was fresh whiting seem a little fishy to me I hate if the whiting is not fresh. Lobster roll not the best the Lobster meat didn't not taste that good to me and the bun was just a potato hot dog bun not cool a Lobster roll should come on a high end toasted roll I would never ordere that again BK Lobster does a Lobster roll right!
