All those flashy billboards along I-90 had us expecting something special from Firehouse Brewing Company. Instead, we drove 75 miles for what turned out to be a disappointing and overpriced first-night meal in South Dakota. From the moment we walked in, something smelled "off." The service was mediocre at best, and the food was downright unappetizing -- barely edible. The prime rib was overcooked and desperately needed seasoning. The creamed corn tasted straight from a can, and the mashed potatoes were so dry they practically crumbled apart. No one at the table felt their meal was worth the stop. And the one thing everyone raves about? The famous house-brewed root beer. Unavailable. The substitute? "House strawberry lemonade" that tasted like Minute Maid with strawberry syrup mixed in. Seriously?! For a place with such incredible marketing and nonstop highway hype, the actual experience fell completely flat. Maybe it's time to light a fire under the cooks and servers, because this felt less like a legendary South Dakota meal and more like a red-hot disaster of a family dinner. The good news? They are open longer hours than many of their downtown Rapid City peers. The bad news? The food is pretty mediocre and they are understaffed. We arrived around 7:30. (Hey, Yelp! This part of SD is in MST, not Central!!!) The hostess said we could site outside by the fireplace but that there was only one waitress for that area. Sadly, the other restaurants in the area were either full or closed on that Wednesday, so we took our chances. Service was slow. The waitress was very nice but overwhelmed. They have a kids menu, which is nice. They have a decent beer list. Lots of local options. I had an okay sour beer from the Sturgis area. The kids loved being able to have frozen mocktails. I tried their reuben. They claimed it's Rapid City's best, but if that's it's best, don't order a reuben in Rapid City. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't great. Just bland. Not enough sauerkraut. The thousand island dressing (served on the side by default) was pretty good but salty. I had a side of broccoli, which I thought was a nice option, but it was bitter and undercooked. My husband had the pork schnitzel meal, which he thought was okay. He liked being able to order mashed potatoes as an option. Thankfully, we sat by the TV, and there was a dog show going on. Very colorful place on the outside. Nicely done on the inside. Our server Latisha was nice and helpful about the area. We were not sure what to get and we only wanted something to share so we asked about two items and ended up splitting the Fish and Chips $20. We got three pieces, French fries and coleslaw. The chips were good but the slaw needed a little sugar for my taste buds. French fires good. It was just before 2 and the place was still full. I would recommend coming here. The service was some of the worst we have experienced. We sat at the table 25 minutes before our waitress stopped over to acknowledge us. She took our four drink order. We were at our table for two hours, she never returned to ask if we wanted any more drinks or refill sodas. We order two pizzas and an appetizer. The appetizer came out 45 minutes after we ordered. Pizza came 20 minutes later. No plates are offered, you have to eat pizza and appetizers off napkins. When it came time to cash out, waitress was nowhere to be found. She was aimlessness walking around not making eye contact with anyone. I had to go the to bar and have the bartender find her. It then took another ten minutes before she came out to our table. Stopped in for an early dinner. got a seat outside right away. it was open and they had a big tv for watching tvs. i loved the firehouse decor on the inside. Our waitress was nice and the food came out rather quickly. I had to try their famous beer bread with butter it was pretty good! Being he is the fire chief where we live, it's always cool to find a fire themed restaurant so we were excited to try this one. I was a little hesitant due to the ratings given by others but like to judge for myself. I'm glad I did. The exterior looks like a real working fire department. There is outdoor seating with murals on each adjacent wall. The interior is creatively decorated as well. Be sure you're really hungry when you go because the food portions are massive. Service was great. The waitress was very nice and helpful and the food was so good. He got half rack of ribs (that looked like a full rack) with rice and I got the fish tacos with onion rings (which consisted of two extremely large tacos). My husband and I have given this place one last chance about three times solely because of how wonderful the patio is. Every time we swear we won't waste our money again but unfortunately this last time put the final nail in the coffin. No amount of good patio vibes are worth the cost of a terrible meal. We visited Firehouse Brewing for dinner while traveling. First off, our server was fantastic.... She knew the answers to all our questions. She was very friendly and took great care of us. The building is an old firehouse, and there are all kinds of cool things inside.... Old photos, ladders, etc. My husband had the Buffalo Lasagne and loved it! Stopped in for a late lunch on the patio after a wine tasting next door at Firehouse Wine Cellars, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience overall. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knew the menu well--she gave some great recommendations based on our questions, which really enhanced the visit. We started with a couple of appetizers. The Fire Caps (cheesy stuffed mushrooms) were excellent--creamy, zesty, and still had a bit of crunch despite being cooked through. Easily one of the highlights. The Gorgonzola soup came a little late--timing from the kitchen could have been better, as I was still eating the soup when my main course arrived. That said, the soup was rich and creamy, with pockets of gorgonzola and a subtle spice at the end. The bread served with it was soft and airy with a flavorful crust--not overly dense and a good complement to the soup. While tasty, the soup wasn't especially memorable. We also ordered a kids' grilled cheese and fries, and it was toddler-approved with no complaints--her exact review: "No, it's mine." As for drinks, I had the Watch beer, which had an interesting flavor profile--sweet notes of pineapple on the front end, finishing with the crisp bitterness of grapefruit or pine resin. Definitely unique, and a fun pairing with the buffalo lasagna. I went with a local favorite: the Buffalo Lasagna. As a big lasagna fan, I love trying regional twists on classic dishes--and in South Dakota, that means buffalo. The dish was rich and satisfying. The sweet tomato sauce balanced nicely with the earthy depth of the buffalo meat, and the noodles held it all together perfectly. The soft bread served on the side helped mellow out the sweetness, making for a flavorful, well-rounded bite. Overall, it was a very good meal--actually better than described on the menu. While the kitchen timing could use a little fine-tuning, the flavors, service, and ambiance (especially on the patio) made it a memorable stop. The bartender was nice and the gift shop is great, though the overall experience held us back from a purchase. A lot of locals told us do not get the BBQ get the burgers so we did and they were good. Beer was also good. Waiter was solid. The woman working the bar was super attentive and friendly. She was handling to busy bar area with ease. I never had to wait very long for a drink or for her to stop by. I sat at the bar as I was traveling solo. Great beer selection and menu choices. Well worth the money. Everyone at the bar was friendly and chatty and I think it's because the bartender made everyone feel at ease. Even though it was my first time here I was made to feel like a local. Came here partly cause of all the heretics on the side of the roads and partly because we were walking and saw a brewery. The downstairs is slightly cramped or dark. The upstairs has the biggest most TVs I've ever seen. There's also no windows. Interesting room. The flights need to be ordered as a pre selected group, but they make sense: light, hoppy, malty. The watch was amazing! The blazing mango was super fun. The nitro was watery. The red ale lacked normal intensity. The service was good. I saw them very nicely deal with annoying customers. The gumbo has chicken, Andouille sausage, shrimp, clams and okra in a spicy creole sauce. It was a good heat. The shrimp, clams, and okra didn't add much. The Buffalo lasagna was very good. We had just finished a visit at Mount Rushmore, and were looking for a stop to eat on our way back to our Airbnb in Lead, South Dakota. Not much is open in this area on a Sunday evening, so when we saw Firehouse, we decided to give it a try. We were seated upstairs. There is lots of memorabilia on the walls to look at which is interesting. However, the restaurant is very loud, and it's hard to hear anyone at your table speak. The food was good, and they even allowed me to order a kids meal (grilled cheese) which I greatly appreciated. First time in South Dakota to see our National Parks. This place was recommended by the concierge of the hotel we are staying at. Located in Main Street and it's an old fire department converted into brewery. The place is really nice exterior and interior. You can see the old brick wall , old decor of fire house, logos fire ladders and high ceiling. Lizette our server is really nice. Very polite and attentive. Food not so fun of their dishes. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza very ordinary . Nothing special. Flat bread and didn't taste the bbq chicken. The chicken topping was very little. The side salad is boring. All iceberg lettuce with shredded carrots and onion. The Firehouse burger is kinda sloppy because the coleslaw was put inside the bun. The fries is not crispy at all. Worst experience ever. Ordered food, was never told before hand they were out of roasted chicken. Was told after they had ran out. I also ordered my jods food and requested condiments and add ones to a queso burger and it was never brought. I requested it multiple times and they were never brought. We were excited to go there and watch the NHL playoffs yesterday as it was recommended to us by the hotel we are staying at. However, our experience was not worth us having to experience this location again. 1). We did call before the games started to see if we needed reservations and to verify the game we wanted to watch was going to be on TV. The first attempt, the phone rang and rang and after numerous times of ringing, it seemed as is the phone disconnected. Almost as if someone answered and then hung up. At the second telephone call, a male answered......said that reservations are not accepted, there was no call ahead seating, and we should be able to find a seat ......that sports was only available at the third floor. Ok, that was fine. Upon arrival, we were told to go upstairs and sit were we wanted. We sat at a table. There were no promotional materials on the table, no napkins, no tableware- nothing. We were greeted by a server shortly. She did not bring tableware. We asked if they served brewed iced tea....she had to go ask. She explained she just started in the past week. Upon her return and disclosed they did serve iced- tea, we asked about their draft beer and what was on draft vs bottled beer. She had to go ask. We ordered drinks. When they were delivered, we ordered appetizers. After approximately 35 minutes, we asked a male employee, as he was walking by, about our appetizers as they were not served and food around us was being served to other tables who arrived after we did. He said he would look into it. Shortly after, the female server came by to say our appetizers should be arriving soon. No apologies....merely that our food should be out shortly. Because of the amount of time it was taking to get our appetizers, we ordered entrees before getting the appetizer. All of this time, we were not provided tableware and had to retrieve them ourselves from the round receptacle at the bar, as we saw them there. As stated, the appetizer arrived 35 minutes after placing the order. They were served hot, which is always appreciated. A salad that we ordered was HUGE and plenty of food. However, the menu says it had nuts on it and that was not the case. . The sandwich ordered was fine. Upon paying the bill, it took an exceptionally long time for it to be processed and paid after providing the credit card. Again, we had to ask a male employee walking by. As we vacation in and near Rapid City, we will not be returning to this establishment. read more

Where did they get all those antique fire trucks ??? Amazing advertising. The billboards worked and we stopped in for lunch. Walking in, the walls are covered with Firefighters Memorabilia. Great vibe... great historical pictures. We were greet warmly by the bartender. She was very pleasant and very attentive. We ordered a hamburger with fries and a side of coleslaw.
