Each time I popped in to consider having a look the immediate reaction of staff is to rudely ask, "Did you get on the list". Sounds harmless but it was the way in which she asked. That was the 2nd time. The first time I went in the kid said, "Are you gonna pay to get in?" Was my first time so I didn't know how it worked. I asked the prices and stood for a split second to consider it. He rudely says, "You can't wait here". Like give me a second you obviously. The staff just act like unsocialized weirdos... No reason to mention there was also NEVER a simple greeting. The 1st kid was a short Indian boy and the 2nd kid was a short Asian girl. These people need to be fired. It's less tolerable to me as someone who had to bust their ass in customer service since I was their age. It's not that hard to make people feel welcome. Especially when they are wanting to feel inclined to bring a cat to a new home. Stop hiring entitled brats that don't respect the hustle. Absolutely terribly vibes. How many more staff reviews do you want to get?

They will sit down with you, listen to your story; history; frustration. It is their mission to help as many veterans go into their door asking for support. Their well-trained team will tell you what are the procedures 1-2-3. The application will take a minimal one year to process. Those who try to raise their current VA Rating, VSSA do that too. Overall, all applicants just need to Patience. After all, VSSA is nonprofit, not a paid program to sign up.

Homefirst does not come out to help elderly women out on the street alone and in need of help. They were in the news for having their own internal issues and may not get funding from the county due to their inability to assist the homeless. I would not even try to get them to help in San Jose. We need a task force and better planning from the Governor, Mayor and County to get anything done to get people out of the rivers, ponds and streets. Our government is failing us so how can we expect nonprofits to get anything done either?

That's how stupidly thin they are. They have a program called New Start. It's basically work for the homeless people at the shelter but they don't get paid, have to work 8 hours ever day (no day off). And the privileges they get because of New Start doesn't add up to the work they put in daily. The Case workers they assign and give to the homeless people don't give them many resources and often times tell the homeless person what to do once and then never meet with them unless asked to. No regular meetings. Social Workers are meant to meet you once every week. I have photographic proof ofSpoiled food they give too. The workers all seem like they work there just for money and not to help other human beings who are struggling to get by. It's so inhumane and cruel and the Home First homeless shelter (2011 Little Orchard St, San Jose, CA 95125) is the one I'm writing about. My friend lives there and often tells me about these things and I've went with them to see and I've seen horrible things from this place.

If you want inexpensive items to create things this is a cool place. When my daughter was in the 5th grade, we got items here for her science project. We created an environmental house. We even used recycled products from here. The die cuts are the coolest here too. I was able to buy products and then cut them here. I made crowns in the past. I wanted to share some feedback about my recent adoption experience…read more My main interaction was with Hailey, who identified herself as an adoption supervisor. I completely understand why HSSV reviews an adopter's history and wants to make sure animals are going into stable, permanent homes. I respect that responsibility. What disappointed me was the lack of context, empathy, and actual counseling in my experience. For background, I had previously adopted two kittens who were later rehomed together with friends who already knew them, fell in love with them, and continue to adore them. Later, I adopted two more kittens. I kept one, who is still with me and thriving. The other already had significant diarrhea when I adopted her. I cared for her for about ten days through medication, monitoring, and constant cleanup until the diarrhea resolved, and later returned her after realizing that a single-kitten household was the better fit for me at that time. She got adopted within the hour. About a month later, I returned because I had decided I wanted to add a second kitten. I was choosing between two kittens I liked, but one had active diarrhea. Having just gone through an exhausting ten-day experience caring for another kitten with diarrhea, I wanted to understand what I might be taking on. I asked about her medical notes, how long the diarrhea might last, the recommended recheck, and what medical support would be available if it continued. Instead of those questions being treated as part of making an informed decision, I felt they were repeatedly interpreted as evidence that I was "unsure." I was repeatedly asked whether I was sure, warned that another return could affect future adoptions, and eventually told that no kitten would be adopted to me that day because I appeared too uncertain. I explained that i could understand being told to go home and think about it for a day. What I struggled with was being told that even if i came back the next day having made a clear decision, there was still no indication of whether I would be allowed to adopt. We went back and forth on this several times. I also explicitly asked for help thinking through which of the two kittens might be the better fit. I was hoping for guidance from someone experienced with the animals who could help me weigh temperament, medical needs, and my circumstances. Instead the conversation increasingly felt focused on whether I was "sure enough" to adopt rather than helping me make an informed choice. What made this experience more frustrating was that the previous day, I had encountered almost the opposite problem. I was interested in several popular long-haired kittens who were still in crates and difficult to assess temperament-wise. I asked whether I could spend a little time with them in a room and was told no. After about ten minutes, the adoption counselor told me I needed to decide or go to the back of the line. I actually had to ask for one more minute, and she stood there looking at her watch timing me while I tried to decide about an animal I could potentially care for for the next 15-20 years. This is where the process felt contradictory to me. On one hand, adopters are expected to make thoughtful, permanent commitments and may be scrutinized heavily if a placement does not work out. On the other hand, there can be considerable pressure to make a decision very quickly, sometimes without enough opportunity to understand the animal's temperament or medical situation. My issue is not that HSSV screens adopters or has safeguards. Those are important. My concern is how those safeguards are implemented. Asking questions, reading medical records carefully, wanting to understand temperament, or needing a little time to think should not automatically be treated as a lack of commitment. I wish the adoption process had felt more supportive, collaborative, and kind. Everyone involved is trying to make the right choice for the animal, and I hope HSSV can balance its policies with more patience, context, and empathy.

Went here to get my taxes worked on and I guess because it's a nonprofit they are REALLY careless…read moreon how they handle taxes. I came in with all my forms and a specific question about healthcare since I had to switch my provider. The volunteer assured me that additional forms wouldn't be necessary and that she could file it just as is. Problem is that my tax refunds never came in 21 days, I called IRS and found that LO AND BEHOLD I DID need that additional tax form. I didn't know how to file them so I thought I would come back for help or some advice. The man that was helping me didn't seem to know what he was doing and then another lady came at me and bitched me out telling me that I'm irresponsible for not doing my taxes in time (even though this wasn't tax filing, it was a return issue). And that I need to handle this issue myself. She didn't even let me talk half the of the time and was projecting her frustrations onto me. More than half the people these volunteers were working with were being condescendingly talked down to for so much. Free or not, volunteer or not I'd rather just spend money now to get my taxes done. These people are just awful and rude
