I am extremely disappointed in my experience today. My insurance doesn't cover acupuncture, so I paid $160 cash out of pocket. I don't mind paying for quality care, but I do mind being rushed through what amounted to about 25 minutes of impersonal treatment. The doctor never asked about my job, lifestyle, or what caused my chronic shoulder pain. There was no intake, no conversation, and no questions beyond "where does it hurt." He spoke to me for only a couple of minutes, placed needles in what felt like a generic, one-size-fits-all pattern, and left the room. Someone else later added a very low level of current to only one small area and left again. Then a different staff member removed the needles and gave a "massage" that consisted of about four minutes of rubbing Biofreeze on me with oversized gloves. As a small business owner and a holistic practitioner myself, I would be sickened if a client walked out of my studio feeling the way I do right now. They knew I was paying out of pocket, yet the experience felt like a rushed, churn-and-burn insurance visit. It was impersonal, disorganized, and honestly felt like a factory line. To add insult to injury, my shoulder wasn't even bothering me today, but after this appointment and the stress and disappointment of the whole experience, it is tight again. For comparison, my husband had acupuncture with another practitioner in town who unfortunately moved away, and that experience was the complete opposite of what I received today. That practitioner spent a full hour with him, asked thoughtful questions, and tailored every part of the treatment to his needs. What I experienced today did not resemble that level of care at all. The doctor saw me for maybe five total minutes. Paying $160 for five minutes of actual attention is unacceptable. I left still in pain, upset, and feeling taken advantage of. I was genuinely excited to try a holistic provider close to home, but after today I will not be returning. The staff were friendly, but the entire environment felt confused and uncoordinated, almost as if a training session was happening and no one quite knew what to do. This is a strange review. Hear me out. I contacted SMA to do acupuncture for a surrogate who lived in the area. I had a very pleasant experience working with them and coordinating payments with them so my surrogate can go to acupuncture. My surrogate was very happy with the services here. She told me that this was the first pregnancy out of 4 that she did acupuncture and this was her first pregnancy that she didn't have morning sickness and nausea!! I think it shows in the demeanor of our lovely child. She is a very calm and happy baby. I definitely think the pregnancy acupuncture has something to do with it! I wish I could give a negative score. I've been dealing with chronic pain for a while and acupuncture was recommended. I did some research and found a clinic that sounded perfect. Oh how wrong I was. I went in for an initial consult visit. I was very nervous and reassured on the phone that I would get a comprehensive consultation with the practitioner to figure out how to address my needs. I instead left feeling completely violated and traumatized. There was no consultation. There was no discussion of anything I submitted on the intake forms. I was put into a nice enough room and told the practitioner would be with me shortly. About 15-20 minutes later, a woman comes in carrying some type of containers. She picked up the clipboard with what I assume had my intake form on it, glanced at it, then told me to get on the table. That was all I got before she started placing the needles in my forehead. I expected some kind of explanation or something about the process. A warning before the first one? Something. I didn't know where she was going to put the next one and it was extremely stressful. Some points hurt, others I didn't feel. She left me alone for a while and had placed a red lamp over me, for what I still don't know, because again, no explanation. When she returned, she removed the needles and said, see you next week. I asked if that was it, she said yes and to go to the front. I was in shock. It was such an awful, unprofessional, and traumatizing experience. The receptionist tried to schedule me for my next visit but I declined. I asked if all initial consultations went that way. She looked caught off guard and told me each practitioner is different. I left and sat in my car for a moment trying to process what had just happened. I sent an email to Shirley when I got home explaining my experience and how I was expecting something different. I had been so excited to find her clinic and the information packet I was sent sounded perfect. I never got a response. Which was a bummer. So. Don't go here. My body is in even more pain from all the tension of not knowing what was going on. read more

Do not recommend. I walked in and was seated. I had my treatment and i was promised 30minutes of treatment because i asked! I also added i would like more minutes of extra time. I was poked around by a blonde lady who was excellent. I would say this was a good experience until i over heard the OWNER Shirley talking about rushing the patients out. I did not even get a full 30Minutes nor did I get my extra time! Seems like we are just cash cows to them ! I am paying out of pocket for treatment I want the whole damn thing. All I can say is wow! My youngest son is a high level wrestling here in California and as anyone would know, those athletes go through a lot. He experienced pain in his arm, knee, neck. I went to Shirley, barely able to stand the sciatic pain I was having all the way to my feet. She started working on both the cause and the pain. She also started work on my asthma and breathing issues from Fresno air. After 3 weeks, the pain in my leg was in half, then it was gone. My breathing has improved and asthma is much better. I almost never write reviews. However, this so called medical practice is so egregious that duty calls me to do so. If you're looking for subpar, racist treatment masquerading as acupuncture, this is it! As likely one of few African-American female patients, today, during my second visit, I was made to wait longer than all others, when happened to be older, white males. During both visits, the "acupuncturist" had me lying face down for over an hour, waiting to be seen. To avoid entirely fraudulently billing my insurance company, Shirley had someone massage, perform cupping, and other tasks they may not even be adequately trained to do. During this last visit, I asked for a gown to avoid getting oily gel all over my clothes because the technician of all trades was too incompetent to aim correctly, only to be told that all the practice had were sheets. Hence, after over an hour in excruciating pain and draped with a scratchy, fitted sheet like an adult diaper, I gave up and told the negligent receptionist that I was headed home, never to return. read more

First I want to say is that Shirley and Eric are just terrific. So far they have fixed my back and hip problems with extreme care and expertise. With this being said my last session on 01/06/2020 I paid my co-pay and made my next appt. for that coming Friday same time at 8:15. The receptionist (wasn't Stephanie) acknowledge the date and time and I was off. That Friday 01/10/2020 I arrived at 7:50 and realized no one was in the parking lot and the lights were off in the building. I waited till my appt. time, 8:15, and still no one had shown up. I wondered why I hadn't received a text message from them the night before, they are pretty good about it. They usually send one for me to respond "1" to Confirm and "3" to Reschedule. I texted on the last old text I received from them that I was there but no one else was and I was leaving. I had received no response from them till that following Thursday 01/16/2020. Someone called (no text message) I didn't get their name and they asked if I was coming in to my appt. for that Friday. I said well no and she asked if I wanted to reschedule so I told her no, no I had an appt. the Friday before and no one was there. She said okay and hung up. I was like what just happened....LOL All I can say is I don't know if I did anything wrong but this was definitely out of the ordinary for this office. Anyway as I said Shirley and Eric are terrific. This place should come with a warning stating extremely good for your health and well being. The staff always make you feel welcome and are so friendly. I had acupunctures from Shirley and massages from her & her staff and OMG how they entangled some of the knots in my back and neck is amazing. I walk out feeling relaxed. My husband goes there for his back pain and he swears it helps him tremendously since his first visit. I took my 89-year-old mother to see Shirley McWilliams for acupuncture. When I called for an appointment I asked for a consult it was $120 and we went ahead and went to the consult on May 11th 2022. When we got into the facility it was very small waiting room and the girl asked who we are and we checked in she gave us papers to fill out I helped my mother fill it out as she is 89 years old and has health issues we were sitting down for maybe 5 minutes and the girl went to seat us. I stated to her that we haven't finished the paperwork yet she said that's fine you can finish it inside the room. She proceeded to tell us in the room that we have to sign the paperwork or the doctor won't see us . I stated to her we weren't done with the paperwork yet. she said that was okay at that time the doctor walked in. She did not introduce herself so we didn't know that she was the doctor. The girl was standing next to my mother as we were seated in chairs and kept saying you need to sign the paperwork or the doctor won't see you . We took that as just for consult.. we didn't go in for treatment as we knew nothing about acupunture..so the doctor is standing there with the girl there and we are very much under pressure and uncomfortable because we hadn't finished filling out any paperwork yet. They were just waiting for signatures. Then the doctor went over to a little area and picked up a box with needles in it and all she said was these needles are sterilized and Etc she did not ask my mother's name she did not introduce herself she did not check her tongue She did not do blood pressure she did not do a pulse she didn't ask my mother about any of her medications or her health history. She then proceeded to put in seven or eight needles directly into my mother's two knees while she was sitting in a chair. We did not get up on the table and we felt very rushed and we didn't know what was going on. She left the room she came back 5 to 8 minutes later and started twisting each needle more into my mother's knees. Still no discussion of anything and we stated to her I thought this was just a consult only? my mother doesn't know anything about acupuncture and the procedure and what it even is about. She just proceeded to keep twisting the needles in and then left the room she came back in another five to eight minutes maybe a few minutes more and then she took the needles out she helps my mother stand up and my mother had a hard time walking. Now mind you my mother had a hard time walking before but not like this when we left that establishment and got home my mother now cannot walk on her legs her knees buckle when she walks she can feel her kneecaps. My mother is 1,000 times worse than she was when we walked into that office. The reason I am explaining all this to you is because I don't want anybody else to ever go through this. Number one it was a very haphazardly quick appointment there was no discussion of my mother's medications my mother's health history no pulse no blood pressure no discussion did not check her tongue and did not explain the art of acupuncture which is what we went in for in the first place. I am just warning other people to please not let this happen to you. My mother's life is now gone she can't go anywhere we barely make it to appointments she can barely walk in the house with a walker The Walker doesn't even help her walk. she is an excruciating pain and my mother now will never be the same because of that 10 or 15 treatment that we had and I am so sorry that we went to her. When we went back to see her about a week and a half later because we waited to see if maybe she would go back the way she was in which she has not. the doctor had nothing to say except four or five more treatments would help. That's all she had to say she wouldn't look at my mother and all I know is that this is a nightmare that will never go away. When you go to see a doctor the first thing they're going to ask you is what medications are you on what is your health history do you have any illnesses they do blood pressure Etc. All I can say is please review my Yelp it is a true honest fact this is what has happened to us my poor mother will never be the same and her life will never be the same my mother now literally cannot walk so please beware of Dr Shirley McWilliams! read more

Okay so first off I love Shirley and her awesome staff. From the very first day I walked in her office I was greeted by her assistant Stephanie and was welcomed right away.
