Overall ambience is bright and inviting. Warmly greeted upon entering which is a nice surprise given we entered between lunch/dinner time. Provided Pita bread was warm and fresh made combined with garlic paste (mmmm so gooood) set the tone for our salad/soup course. Island combo was both lightly seasoned to allow natural flavors to surface as well as juicy which is not the norm for many other ME restaurants. Service was attentive and very polite. Definitely will return.

It doesn't matter what you order, the portions are always huge! We ordered what we thought was enough for two people with some leftovers for the next day and ended up with a feast that we enjoyed for several days. I thought I made a mistake because the amount of food for the price was exceptional but the staff assured me this was correct. The food is fresh, delicious and service is fast. I've only done carry out orders so I can't speak to dine in experience but Shish Island quickly became my favorite carry out spot for Mediterranean food!

Our experience was absolutely amazing! The entire staff was super friendly and tried to accommodate our needs without any issues. The bread and garlic was one of the best I've had, we devoured the first basket, so they brought us another one with more garlic! I could live just of these two... garlic was super garlicky, yum! I got the Majadara dish that comes with only one side, so I got the lentil soup. Substituted yogurt with tahini. Soup was delicious and nicely flavored with cumin, majadara was also very good. Did I mention the bread and garlic? Hubby got the chicken Sajji as this is something we have not seen in other Middle Eastern / Mediterranean restaurants, and he liked it a lot. Very interesting sauce that is served with it. And the bread.... Portions were generous. We had plenty of leftovers including more bread and garlic.... oh my. The restaurant was very clean. I would give them 5 starts, but the only thing that bothers me are the prices. It's quite expensive in comparison to other similar places. I'll be back to try other vegetarian/vegan dishes, and of course for the bread... and garlic...

Quaint restaurant with excellent service! Stumbled upon this restaurant as a halfway meeting pinpoint for our family. My kids were being extra rambunctious, but the staff was kind and understanding about their energy. Food was delicious. The fresh bread was absolutely devoured by everyone at our table. We shared a quart of smoothie, which was also a big hit. I had the Shish Tawook with rice and a Fattoush salad. The lemon oregano sauce was perfection. We had plenty of leftovers to take home too. My oldest started wandering the restaurant near the end of the meal and was grumpy. One of the restaurant staff found him and placed a chef hat on his head, calling him the head chef. It completely turned his night around. He was so happy! Thanks to the thoughtful staff! We will definitely come back.

Breads, garlic, deboned chicken lunch combo

I tried this place for the first time. There's a nice fire oven making small puffy pita breads (yum). The interior is new and clean. There's a counter in the front and tables off to the side. I ordered a lunch special for around $12 that came with deboned chicken, rice, two grilled carrot slices, bread and garlic. It also came w lentil soup or salad so I tried the soup. All were very good. Carrots were tender and great, no black char all over which is great. I dislike when I order grill vegetables and it comes w so much black char grilled marks. Rice has vermicelli noodle mixed in and nuts. Just want to share for those that are gluten free that it has noodle in it. Lentil soup was great. Next time I will come try a sandwich and I also want to try fattoush salad here. There's a lot of competition so if taste is all good, differentiating factors come down to 1) prices/combo availability 2) distance 3) puffy warm bread vs flat pita skins 4) customer service for me! Sam helped take my order and also gave me a nice ice cold water while I waited. Overall great experience so I will be back

I got the dinner combo with the three meats beef chicken and lamb. This included rice and lentil soup. The portions were generous, the meat was tender, the soup was excellent and wants me coming back for the other types of soup, the rice was soft, and the carrots were soft and warm. The service was also welcoming despite being a pickup order. I asked for a lot of recommendations and came to the conclusion that I wanted to try all three meats and it did not disappoint. However do know that the dinner combo comes with a price of around $30 so it is not your typical cheap fast food Mediterranean place. I would come back if I wanted a generous portions of Mediterranean food and willing to splurge a little.

Service - A+ - Sam was very friendly, smiled and attended to our needs. Didn't hover but refilled drinks and answered all our questions. It was a really lovely meal. Placed a carryout to take home to my mom, et al. Mom was craving good Mediterranean since her favorite place closed down years ago. I've eaten here a handful of times, but this was my first carryout. Every time I have been greeted immediately upon entry, today was no exception. The gentleman at the counter asked if it was my first time, I told him no, but it will be first for my family. They doubled my bread order, added a hummus to try, and gave me a larger order of the salsa! Even without all the wonderful extras they added, I walked out with a ton of food! If that wasn't reason enough to return, the food was A-MAZING. All the entrees come with two sides. We ordered chicken tawook, shawarma combo, sajji beef and for sides fattoush, vegetable soup, and grilled vegetables, and salsa. The salsa is some of the best I've EVER had and I love good fresh salsa. The beef was sooo tender with lovely grill marks and a hint of heat from the sauce. I will order it on repeat. The vegetable soup was loaded with vegetables. Chicken and lamb nicely seasoned and tender. I was too full to try the baklava, but I'm told it was very good and not too sweet! Sooo much delicious food! Highly recommend!

I will keep it simple. We went this afternoon, a group of 8. We ordered food across the board. The food was not of that great quality, especially the chicken shawarma. Bur every dish was pricey as hell. These are California rates and not Michigan prices. The second thing - the waiter was super rude. He messed up the order but was still rude. The ambience is of a third class place - does not justify the price one bit. Overall, please visit this place ONLY if you DO NOT value your money. Please go to another Mediterranean place. You will be much better off. read more

I was assigned to pick a restaurant for an incoming group. After researching many mediterranean restaurants, this one kept coming on top. We made reservations for eight people. We were promptly seated. We had one person who took care of so well that we never lacked anything. Our waiter was a solid 10!! The food is plentiful, fresh, and delicious. You are served warm bread and garlic sauce complimentary. The prices are so reasonable for what you get. 10/10 read more

This. Place. Is. Amazing. Portions are generous, everything is fresh and extremely authentic, prices are beyond fair. I am Armenian and critical when I get Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. This place knocked my socks off to the point where I called them on the phone to tell them the first time I got carryout. We regularly get the deboned chicken dinner (white meat) with pilaf and either fatoosh or Tabbouli on the side. They give tons of fresh baked bread too and garlic sauce. For the price what you get is an insane deal. We will often get this meal if we have a friend over as everyone can have a lot of food for cheap. I won't go anywhere else now. Their lunch deals are really cheap too. My mom who has been cooking a pilaf recipe passed down in our family for years said theirs tasted identical to hers. The chicken is charred to perfection. The Tabbouli is moist and flavorful (I do not like Tabbouli that is too dry). Choose this place as your go to. You won't regret it. read more

Wanted to try this place looking for Mediterranean food. Both wife and I got the 1/2 deboned chicken it was excellent and over abundance of it. Just be aware most orders are ala cart...you order the chicken you get one side like rice, the grilled vegetables, soup or salad or hummus are all extra! Speaking of grilled vegetables disappointing it was slices of onion, quarter chunks of green peppers and large pieces of hard carrots...this could be improved, chicken was wonderful! We got soup too wife's chicken lemon rice was good and I got the crushed lentils which was good but needed more flavor. All in all we did enjoy our meal with a few tweaks it could have been fantastic! read more

I am never one to review places, but this place is absolutely AMAZING! My husband and I ordered takeout and we couldn't believe the amount of food we received. The bread is honestly one of the best I've ever had and they give you enough to feed two families. I ordered the Shish Kafta with their rice and lemon chicken soup. It was AMAZING! My husband ordered a combo with chicken, steak and beef Kafta. Also, sooo delicious! We also ordered hummus and WOW it was delicious! We had enough food between the both of us that we had it for leftovers the next day. We have tried multiple Mediterranean places in metro Detroit and this place is the best! We will definitely be coming back to Shish Island whenever we want Mediterranean cuisine! read more

This visit was dine in & it did not disappoint. Super friendly staff, over the top garlic sauce, salsa & warm bread complimentary after sitting. Outstanding on both!!! Top notch on taste! All homemade. Son ordered shawarma again amazing again @ $5.99 a steal. I had a Fattoush salad w dressing on side (personal preference) w chicken- WOW!!! Chicken super moist, flavor top notch & fresh greens. All so good that I ordered food to go to take home. Bought 16oz garlic sauce & shawarma sandwich to enjoy next day & days to follow! Garlic sauce is as golden as my homemade, so they have saved me time from making! All homemade in-house by this place. New to the area 1 yr ago, less than 3 miles in Troy, and will just order their food for my fridge * returnfor dine in. I will also now buy their salad dressing b/c it was that GOOD! Owner met me with a smile. I ordered ahead off grub-hub, and the food was finished BEFORE it's estimated time. The fold was so good, hummus, garlic sauce, puffy pita bread, amazing fire cooled chicken full of flavor. Amazing food and service! Came here for the first time 2 weeks ago and have made this one of my daily spots! Sam welcomed us and took very good care of us. The food is always on point and the staff made us feel like family. The chicken sajee is my favorite as well as the chicken lemon rice soup. You can't go wrong here. Today's crushed lentil soup was the consistency of a broth and did not taste like it has over the last 10+ years. So much so that I couldn't wrap my head around eating it. I did place an hour in the last hour of opening. Not sure if that impacted the order. The most ordered item while I waited was a chicken shawarma sandwich.

Their kids are in the shop hanging out. The chicken shawarma meat was a bit dry. The owner said it was dry since it was the inside and end of one shawarma on the spit.
