I literally just pulled a staple out of my mouth after taking a bite of my kafta sandwich. First time going to this place. Ate half then put the rest in the fridge. Warmed up the rest and second bite i found a staple. Seriously, I'm shocked. I called the restaurant and all he said was there is no metal where they prepare the food. I told him that there must be something because I bit into a staple. He said he was sorry. I asked if I could have my money back and he said to bring the picture tomorrow. I know it's only 6 bucks but it's the principle. I'm praying this is a one time event but I won't be back to find out. read more

Tried this restaurant because it was recommended by a friend. I can't believe I didn't ever try this place when I still lived in Michigan (and only a mile away from this place nonetheless). My husband and I ordered carry out while we were visiting friends & family. We didn't pick up the food so I didn't see the inside of the restaurant, but the food spoke for itself. Delicious, authentic Mediterranean. Huge portions and more than enough for multiple meals. Everything tasted fresh and had great flavor. The guy on the phone seemed to be doing me a favor by taking my order. He simply seemed bored, even when walking me through the menu, which was helpful, but infuriating, because I felt his contempt through the phone line. The man behind the counter, who may or may not have been the same guy from the phone, was incredibly rude. He actually rolled his eyes when I paid with exact change. The lamb kabob, although well seasoned, was overcooked, and I could have gone without it. The same can be said of the shish kafta. It was an underwhelming blend of lamb and beef, overcooked to the point that it seemed like a purposeful, "F you," from the kitchen staff to whoever dared order a meal and actually make them work. The main dishes weren't the only disasters. The hummus was spectacularly bland. I took about three swipes of it with some pita bread, before I had to throw it out. It felt like bad baby food had made it's way into my carry out box. The fatoosh salad was boring in every sense. There were no carrots or cabbage, and the pita chips were greasy and fried, as opposed to being crisp and baked. The only two positive things were the pita bread, which was fresh, but obviously not made in-house. The baba ghannouj was above par as well. It's certainly not the best, or even in the top 5 I've had in the Detroit area, but it's also not the worst. The bottom line is, this place is the Middle Eastern equivalent of McDonald's. And to the owners, that is NOT a compliment. Go here if there's no where else open in a 10 mile radius, and you need food of this type fast, otherwise, keep on driving. read more

I completely empathize that restaurants are struggling during covid, but the food quality was awful. Ordered through DoorDash and the order took an hour and a half to get here. Did not receive my smoothie. Called the owner and he told me I needed to call my driver for it. I ended up calling DoorDash and getting a full refund. The turnips were brown. The side of tabbouli looked old and had salad mixed in with it. My vegetarian sandwich was supposed to have mixed veggies and it had 3 carrots and a few onions. The garlic sauce did not taste good and looked slimy compared to any garlic dip I've ever had. Ended up having to throw away all of the food I waited almost two hours for. read more

Wasn't happy with my meal at all/: the Hummus Gallahba with chicken had barely any chicken and 3/4 of the meal was hummus, and mushrooms.. The falafel was somewhat over-cooked and personally I didn't like there tahini sauce.. The only good thing about this location was the service, the employees were super friendly. This is my favorite Mediterranean place in the area. Their food is always amazingly fresh, and flavorful. Got takeout for 4 tonight, for $50 with leftovers. Extremely reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. Their garlic butter is to die for, and their meats are always cooked to perfection. I ordered a large smoothie and I have been ordering large smoothies for YEARS at this place. I received a small. And was told it's the only size...? I ordered three sides of hummus and I received two. I ordered a large garlic whip and I got the biggest tub I've ever seen- we received ZERO bread. Wanted a quick Mediterranean take out for dinner tonight, and our normal restaurant was closed. Did some searching and found Shish Kabob Express was close to us, and prices were very comparable. My husband ordered some chicken shawarma sandwiches and was very happy with them. Good amount of chicken, and the garlic was not overbearing. I got an order of hummus with chicken and am SO happy with it. I couldn't stop eating it, very good flavor and loved the spices added. I was excited to see a Middle Eastern place open near my house. I can get a lunch here for less than $5. I get a Falafel sandwich, and it fills me up and is quite tasty. I was going to subway, and spending almost $8 for a 6 inch sub and a drink. I like the people that work here and that is it close to my work. Last night I came here with my family. We split the $9.99 vegetarian combo, and my husband and I each got a pita sandwich and added a Fattosh salad. The whole family was stuffed, with leftovers for $26. We were satisfied and felt everything was a great value and delicious. To the previous reviewer-whom it seems cannot be pleased given their other reviews-I do not appreciate your "terrorist" comment. I have lived in Metro Detroit my whole life and have been friends with and worked for many people from that area of the world and have known them to be hard working, honest and great people. Waled and the rest of the crew did an excellent job on my last order, fattoush salad with chicken, for a baby shower we had at work. Brought it to work and the chicken was really dry. It's not your typical marinated in juices all day type shawarma. It's basically a a chicken breast cut up. The beef/lamb shawarma was Ok.... the flavor wasn't the typical taste of meat shawarma. It was slightly different. Also, a little on the dry side. The rice came with this marinated vegetable stuff that had a tomato base that I didn't care for too much either. Their hommous was ok..... not the best. But, THEIR BABA WAS FKN GREAT! You can tell it's homemade. Not the stuff out of a can that's spiced up a little bit. It has large chunks of eggplant in it... brought me back to the days when I spent 4 months in Jordan. I gave one star only because you have to choose a star. If I could, I would have rated zero stars. I order Middle Eastern food all the time and decided to try this place and it was a huge mistake. I paid $70 for what was considered a Family Tray and it was absolutely disgusting. There wasn't enough food in the tray to feed my guests and the food that was on the tray was probably a few days old. I even spoke to the owner about my concerns and he disregarded everything. The soup tasted just like metal, which led me to believe it must have been sitting in the same pot for a few days and all they did was just reheat it and put it back in the refrigerator. The soup definitely absorbed the metal taste from the pot. The shawarma had a horrible aftertaste and was hard. It was also very oily which led me to believe it was old meat and they just reheated it on a skillet with a ton of oil. The tray said it would feed about 5 to 6 people and it barely was enough for four adults. Please save your money. read more

Really good, surprisingly close. I must have driven by this place a thousand times without knowing it was there,... And the name less-than "grabs" your attention. Yet, when my wife and I had a craving for middle eastern and didn't want to drive all the way out to La Saj on a Saturday night, we went to yelp laughingly asking if there was a middle eastern restaurant. I there was! With moderately great reviews from my fellow yelp-a-lots. So now I add my own. The food was good (not great) about what you'd expect from most at a reasonable price. The starter combo was decent size for two (hummous, baba, tab) and delicious. Sandwiches were just the right size, if a tad dry, but suppose that's to be expected right? Garlic sauce was great! My daughter had the shrimp cilantro and it vaporized prior to myself getting a taste,... But I did get to sample a stray mushroom that thought it had escaped her clutches... Only to be quickly devoured. Quite we'll spiced and had me sending out search parties for additional escapee's... So it must have been fantastic. Sigh. Downside: had to buy bread, which came in a plastic bag. No little warm loaves of heaven you get from other restaurants. It was okay. Second, the smoothies had no ice? Delicious and cold, and it was freezing outside,... So I would have expected a little ice. Lastly, the baklava was,... Meh. Okay, but dry and rather small portion. When trying a new restaurant, my wife and I usually buy way too much. (Just in case the food's not great, we can usually find some portion of it to sustain us). In this case,... That was really quite awful. I judge most places by their chicken schwarma. Chicken Schwarma is dark meat with tons of spices that is mouth watering and delectable. Its the only way i like chicken, really. Not the sandwich but the actual chicken. Anyhoo, i ordered the chicken schwarma and hummus appetizer.
