I've been a longtime fan of Shobha Eyebrow Salon since my undergrad college days, but I had stopped going because it was too far at the time. So, imagine my excitement when I discovered a location much closer to my house! I had been going to another salon near me, but unfortunately, the new eyebrow tech just couldn't get my brows right no matter how many times I tried. I finally decided it was time to go back to true professionals who actually know what they're doing--and wow, I'm so glad I did! My brows were in terrible shape (literally ), but my Shobha esthetician worked her magic and completely transformed them. I left feeling like a new person! The precision, the shape, the symmetry--absolute perfection. The price is 100% worth it for the quality you get. My destination was Shobha. Still, I continued perusing Yelp and decided to try another place one ave closer to where I was. I'm sooooo happy they were fully booked else I would have missed out on all the sweet, feminine goodness that's this business Shobha! From the doorman of the building to receptionist Yulissa (pronounced Julisa) and my tech Rizwana, everyone was so amazingly wonderful! As you walk in your temperature is checked before you're directed to a sink to wash up. They practice strict covid precautions. I didn't have an appointment (it's recommended) but I waited less than the ten minutes Yulissa said it would be to have my facelift. (threaded 'brow) I heart the energy of this business. It's light, positive and even with their fiery aesthetics, it lends a calm that stays with you even as you walk out the door. Based off a few glowing reviews from other Yelp Elite folks, I had very high expectations for this salon. My favorite waxing place close to me in Brooklyn unfortunately did not survive the pandemic, so I desperately needed to find a suitable replacement and decided to journey into Midtown to get some waxing done. Unfortunately, it's not likely that i'll be back. First the good: - Convenient way to make appointments: Shobha's website was easy to navigate, choose a preferred specialist, select a time slot, and you're all set. - Great customer service: The specialist i met upon arriving for my appointment was welcoming and friendly. - Quality wax: the wax that was used was top notch and there was no double dipping! Now, the not-so-good: One: - i am admittedly FASTIDIOUSLY CLEAN. Covid has only exacerbated my need to be sanitary at all times. However, Shobha did not appear to be doing all that they could to maintain a clean establishment. i was the earliest and only appointment for my time slot the Friday morning i went and it was clear that the floors had not been swept, mopped, or swiffered between the evening before and that morning. Strike one. Okay, grubby floors, maybe not the worst thing. Two: So to be perfectly candid - you go for a Brazilian wax and basically it's all your business spread open for the specialist to remove all the hair down there. So, you expect that EVERYTHING that comes into contact with your vag and your bum to be sanitized. Nope - the lovely specialist proceeded to open up random drawers to fish out scissors and trimmers that did not look wiped down and after she used them on me, she put them RIGHT BACK in the drawers! What?! That's such a multiplicity of bacterial transfers - i can't. Strike Two. Three: So she's busy waxing away, while wearing her gloves the entire time, but she's taking those same gloved hands (that have been in my azz) to keep turning the knobs of the wax heater. i thought, "okay maybe the knobs are routinely wiped down" - Nope. At the end of the session, she KEPT her dirty gloves on, touched the sanitizer spray bottle, and ONLY proceeded to wipe down the counter and the elevated table where i had been laying. That was it - not the knobs, not the scissors, not the drawer handles. Only then did she throw away her gloves. That means there are still TONS of surfaces in that room with all kinds of germs from people's nether regions. Gross. i personally after every waxing appointment take the precautions to shower, use tea tree oil and other antiseptics on my body to prevent infection, and i can say that i emerged unscathed. But the cleaning practices at Shobha Columbus Circle are not up to par. Maybe fellow reviewers won't be so turned off by what i witnessed, but i personally won't be back. read more

First time at this location but vey consistent as all others. Upon entering the staff checked your temperature and requested me to wash my hands. My esthetician came right on time and walked mw through the whole process. I explained to her that it would be mu first time sugaring. It was very seamless process and would recommend trying it's smaller areas and less of that pull from hard wax. Sangita was amazing and def planning on coming back to her next month foe my follow up. To check out she was able to process it in the room as opposed to making another stop at the front desk. They are following safe guidelines and precautions during this time. read more

I came here courtesy of a yelp deal and made an appointment toward the end of the day for eyebrows. I didn't realize there was a credit card minimum, but luckily they had an ATM on site. The front desk receptionist was lovely, the interior was a warm orange, and was a surprisingly large space. I was seated on time and after about 5 minutes, my appointment was over. The aesthetician was great and I was pleased with the finished result. This place is a bit pricier than other threading locations I've been to, but it's the experience that made it worth it. Overall, a great place for spa services with professional staff. This is their third location and they are doing a great job with expanding. I would come back here for other spa services. read more

Tried a free laser hair removal session, and I docked off a star because I waited for 30 minutes for a 5 minute procedure. Otherwise, the front desk service was really kind. I've been to Shobha SoHo before and I loved how clean and organized everything was. They have mints and tea/water for you while you wait. The procedure itself was pretty painless (underarms). Occasionally, it would prick. But the cold air they add really helps. I've done laser before and I've never had them add a gel beforehand, so that was interesting. Pomila was a bit on the abrasive side. It was fine because I had done laser before and knew the procedure and aftercare, but she didn't really say anything either. read more

I came here for an underarm wax to try their services out. They have a 4 step process: sugaring/waxing, soothing lotion, cold compress, threading the unruly hairs. I beleive they use rose oil in their lotion and it smells so nice and calming. I was quite pleased with the end result. I have really sensitive skin so I like a quick and dirty wax. I was so happyy when my aesthetician never used the same wax stick, wore gloves and a face mask - I have been surprised at how many places in nyc double dip the stick. The location seemed very clean. The building itself is SO hard to find. It's right past Nordstrom on broadway and it's on the 18th floor. However the building is beautiful. They also have plenty of chairs and self-serve yogi tea and water while you wait. read more

Many years ago I tried "threading", the Indian art of hair removal, to shape my brows. I was recommended to a young woman who had a new business consisting of two chairs in a beauty salon in The Village. Today those two chairs have grown into a fabulous business with many locations and a brand new space on the Upper West Side. And while Shobha herself is no longer in NYC, she has an excellent, well trained staff. The new location on Broadway and 76th Street, with saffron storefront, is bright and welcoming, and always spanking clean. Services include threading, waxing and sugaring for men and women. While there might be many choices to on the UWS, I highly suggest you try Shobha. You won't be disappointed and with will your brows! read more

After years of getting brazilians with hard wax, I came here to try sugaring instead. Pomila, my esthetician, was super quick and made the process as painless as possible. They even put a cooling wipe infused with rose oil afterwards to calm the skin down and close the pores. They also give the option of applying hydrocortisone which I opted out for. They pay great attention to detail and even threaded any remaining stray hairs away at the end, although you can refuse the threading if you're uncomfortable. This was by far the fastest, most efficient brazilian I've ever had and arguably the least painful. The shop carries an array of cute goodies scattered around the entry area/waiting area such as lotions, aromatherapy oils, a variety of konjac sponges (cherry blossom, charcoal, green tea i think?), and even soy candles. The space was clean and relaxing. There is even a tea station filled with a variety of Yogi tea packets if you care for one. The only thing that I wished they had was hard wax since they only offer strip wax. Other than that, definitely worth a stop! I could have sworn I wrote up a review, especially since I'm one of their oldest client. A veteran from their Grand Opening days. This place is hands down, one of the Best Waxing Salons in NYC. And not just for its qualified waxers, but mainly because of the wax itself. I have never felt such a soft wax any place else, and I'm speaking of the hard wax. They also offer sugar wax, but doesn't have the same effect on my hair -- I have thick, tough follicles, only hard wax for moi. I first explored Shobha when I went to their SoHo location, then I tried the Madison Avenue location [when I was working in Midtown] - I had a waxer whom I fell in love with, Jamuna, and when she moved to the Columbus Circle location, WE moved to the new location. I have been a loyal customer for 10+ yrs, and I go nowhere else. Even when I lived out of state, I would fly up every 2-4 months to get cleaned up. When you have a Gem like Jamuna, you have my loyalty (and it doesn't hurt we share the same birthday, which I didn't find out until 10+ yrs later). They are a bit pricey; however, price depends on the Expert Level (ranging 1 to 5) of each specialist. The frontdesk staff are very polite, friendly and accommodating on short notice bookings, I have gotten in quite a few times on short notice. The place is very clean, colorful, with a beautiful scent of their amazing wax perfuming the air. The Shobha Retail Wall consists of mainly all the products they use on you, that you can use at home. Shobha is big on exfoliating -- Jamuna asks me all the time, "have you been exfoliating?" They provide complimentary tea and water, along with sweet candies. I went in to get my eyebrows done as a part of the Yelp Elite event. Called in last minute and they were able to accommodate me. I got one of their senior technician - every technician has their own prices and hers was $34 for eyebrow threading. Personally I think that's very expensive since there are places in the city that will charges you less than half of that price and do a great job. I wasn't really pleased with my eyebrow shape since I found some hair that wasn't take out. In the end, they put rose water dipped towel on your eyebrows, which felt good but again I would rather pay less. The person working at the front desk was really friendly but the technician not so much. I don't think I will be going back mostly because of the prices. read more

I love this place so much!!!! I made an appointment online via their app and it was pretty seamless. The entire place is super clean, everyone is spaced out 6ft or more, and its a cashless establishment. Other than family and friends, my eyebrow lady is up there of those I miss dearly - she made my experience super comfortable, clean, safe and obviously did a wonderful job on my eyebrows. Strongly encourage you to look at Shobha for your eyebrow needs, I am very impressed with how they have managed to follow COVID19 guidelines so well for a service so close to our bodies. I called and asked to walk in for a quick eyebrow threading. they never mentioned to me that they were 5X the price! They charged me $57 for eyebrows and upper lip, and did a half decent job. all around nyc, the SAME service costs $15 at the most. It's a complete RIP OFF!! My first experience at Shobha was a yelp Elite Event (shoutouts to Ruggy). I had another wax spot that I enjoyed going to because it was recommended by a friend and super affordable but once I came to Shobha I knew that I was due for some change. During the yelp Elite Event, I had my underarms sugared by Promila and I have been coming to her ever since for underarms and Brazilian. The salon is located by Columbus Circle, which is super convenient to get to with so many trains nearby. It's located inside of a large building with I'm guessing other companies occupying other floors. The spa itself is super clean, one of the cleanest I've ever seen. Everyone is so friendly from the time you walk in to the time you walk out. I've never had to wait after coming in, my appointment always starts on time. Promila is super sweet and gets the job done! After sugaring, she goes back and threads any little stubborn hairs that may have stuck around. The price is steep ($66 for Brazilian and $29 for underarm) but it is worth it when you factor in cleanliness, professionalism, comfort, and quality of service. I was on vacation in the city. I have not had someone else detail my brows etc since before lockdown. I did not even know what threading or sugaring were! I looked up the terms on Yelp, found this place was nearby and had a "walk ins welcome" sign. They were very welcoming, empowering and explained everything. I had my eyebrows shaped, threaded, tinted, lip waxed and threaded. The professional young Indian woman who did the work was so efficient and talented. The treading was painless. I agree with the other reviews that this place is very hard to find. I ended up calling to find out where they were located. I also understand that you have to sign in to the building for safety reasons but for a 10 minute eyebrow treatment, it seems a bit much. I really enjoyed the eyebrow threading treatment, but I do think it is a little expensive for what it is ($22). Most eyebrow threading places offer a similar treatment for $7 with the same results. The nice thing is that they do give you a cold compress at the end and the salon is very nice and clean. If you live in the area it is worth trying this place. read more

This was my first experience with sugaring vs waxing and I felt as if it made a world of a difference! The sugar was less sticky than wax, cooler, and not as thick. As a result, less of the solution stuck to my skin meaning that the pulls were less painful than traditional wax. Having been an allegiant waxer for years, one time sugaring was all that was needed to convince me to make the switch for good! Overall, the process took about 10 minutes for a bikini Brazilian. My technician, Desai, was kind and gave great product recommendations for my skincare upkeep! The salon itself is clean, pretty, and smells amazing! My tech wiped down the room before leaving which is always comforting to see. My only recommendation would be to instruct the staff to press against the skin after each pull- the pressure helps to cut the pain quickly! read more

The entrance can be hard to find but if you walk towards the Nordstrom, you will see the 5 Columbus Circle sign that leads you into the lobby of the building. If it is your first time visiting Shobha, you do have to fill out a one page form before your appointment. I came in for a Brazilian wax and was pleased with my results. My esthetician was very welcoming and asked me a few questions about my waxing experience. Overall, she did a good job and I appreciated the cold cloth and the hydrocortisone afterwards. Sugaring is very similar to waxing but a little more gentle, which I really liked. My tech was Mira and she was very though with my Brazilian. I first was introduced to Shobha through a Yelp event and since then I honestly can't go anywhere else. I now live in Brooklyn and work in the city but I always take the trek because it is absolutely worth it. There's never an issues with scheduling or service. I'm very picky because I literally have no eyebrows to begin with and they give me exactly what I want. I've also had a Brazilian done here and it was one of the best I've ever had. Let me also point out that I'm sensitive...like getting my eyebrows threaded is painful BUT like I said, it's bearable here. Went here yesterday and was promptly reminded why I stopped going to Shobha ( soho location) years ago. I walked into the building where the salon is located and there was another woman walking in--I assumed she was also going to Shobha sure enough she was--we get up to the floor she gets to the counter first and tells them she doesn't have an appointment. then the receptionist turns to me and I tell her I have an appointment she checks me in but then they end up taking in the walk-in girl.--Im thinking oh okay maybe my appointment is with a specific technician who is not free yet so I have one cup of tea--5 mins later, fill another cup with tea...still no other technician ( meanwhile the walk-in girl is almost finished with her service) then I wash my hands... about 15 mins later THEY END UP TAKING ME AFTER THE WALK-IN CLIENT with the same technician!! no other technician I might have been scheduled with came out--they simply made the choice to take the other girl who walked in--in front of me, someone who had made an appointment online. Shobha is typical for that, deciding which customers are more worthy of special treatment despite the facts-- I HAD AN APPT the other girl did not. Aside from this experience, the prices are exorbitant even with a 5 dollar coupon I spent 30 bucks for brows and lip. I haven't gotten my eyebrows done by someone else in about 6 months, as the last place I had them threaded, made them super thin which caused a bit of a breakdown. But this place came on my radar, even though it is a bit more expensive than other hair removal places, at $22 for an eyebrow threading. I decided to give this place a try as it offered a free eyebrow threading with a Yelp check-in. I came in without an appointment and they have complimentary teas on the side as you wait. They accommodated me quickly, with Mira and I told her what I wanted and she then proceeded to ask if she could trim my eyebrows as well, which I agreed to. I liked that she asked, instead of assuming what was best for me. They give you a wet napkin to wipe your hands with, as you will be holding your own eyelids to keep them taught and use another one to wipe your eyebrows with. She spent a lot more time threading my brows than my previous experience, which I am assuming means that she spent that time in order to ensure the quality of her work. At the end she applied a type of lotion and a cold compress on the eyebrows for a short time and then handed me the mirror and asked me if I was happy. I definitely left happy, and without the red puffiness that you usually leave with after getting your eyebrows done. Even though this place is out of the way for me, I would definitely recommend. I recently moved out of NYC, and it has been so. incredibly. difficult. to find a waxing salon anywhere near as fantastic as Shobha. I really miss Nawena, who always did a perfect Brazilian wax. I wanted to update my last review since I've gotten my second Brazilian wax now. Not as painful as I thought. Rizwanna always takes care of me and especially this time, she was speedy and gentle. She applied cortisone for the redness. A great job and having sensitive skin I recovered fairly quickly. There's really only one little spot which is the most sensitive. It is described on their website. Helpful when you undergo the procedure. Afterwards it felt good to know I was bare and smooth. read more

I was 5 minutes late for my laser appointment and they refused to see me saying they were too busy and the person had multiple appointments after me and was overbooked and her next client would be arriving in 7 minutes-- how could she have booked someone essentially during my appointment time and then tell me that she wouldn't see me? I am disappointed and disgusted. I will make sure American Express gives me a full refund for the service and I will be complaining to the better business bureau. read more

I have been going to Shobha for almost a decade now. I've tried other other Brazilian wax places in the city before but nothing really compares to their service. Clean space and friendly reception staff. Their aestheticians always wear disposable gloves and they use disposable sticks. They're quick, but always do a good job. I was an ex-sugar Brazilian waxer at a different location, a good friend recommended Shobha. My first service was approximately two years ago with Desai. This review is long over due or perhaps my own selfishness didn't want to say that Desai is the best kept secret! She is absolutely the most gentle waxer. Not only is she thorough, she is also fast who doesn't miss a hair. I highly recommended her just don't overbook her as I don't want to be left without her services. Have things gone downhill? I am shocked at all the five star reviews. Went here because European Wax Center was not able to take me as a walk in and a colleague said only good things about this place. Unfortunately was not that impressed and will not be back. For the same amount of money for a waxing I will just go to European Wax Center. I decided to go to someone who is new to Shoba to get the 20% discount (they only take tip in cash--they have and ATM machines that charges $3 fee). Perhaps a bad decision. They claim the person has had experience elsewhere and is merely new to the store. I chose to take the risk. My mistake! I have a very high pain tolerance for waxing (or so I thought?) but this waxing experience was actually incredibly painful and slow and long. I am used to very efficient ladies doing a quick job that minimizes pain from the process. My technician today was slow and was not quick enough with her hands to reduce the pain. However, she was very kind and attentive and had a good bedside manner. I will not be back. read more
